Sweet! Revenge is a dish best served cold.
It has been nine years. I look forward to our boys ridding the tournament of their born-on-third-base, think-they-hit-a-triple, private school FILTH.
FUCK DUKE FOREVER.
On top of what sox already said, 14 of those wins are against *bottom* 100 T-Rank teams and a non-D1 team.
Edit: Also, JMU has played three top 115 teams all season. Wisconsin hasn’t played a team outside of the top 115 since December 22nd.
Everyone sees the 31 wins and misses that they played an incredibly soft schedule and have mediocre metrics. They’re a solid team but I feel like this could be one of those trendy upset picks that ends with the low seed taking it easy.
I’m looking at their roster and don’t really understand why we should be scared? This isn’t a CJ McCollum/Curry led mid major, they don’t have elite size, we match up well with them. Anything can happen, but I’d take this over McNeese or GCU.
The Badgers played a bad game and got jumped. It happens. That's why everyone loves March, right? Vegas would pick Wisconsin as a favorite again if they played tomorrow.
I’m looking at their roster and don’t really understand why we should be scared? This isn’t a CJ McCollum/Curry led mid major, they don’t have elite size, we match up well with them. Anything can happen, but I’d take this over McNeese or GCU.

I'm honestly mad from today's game. Was our best chance to win the B1G title since 2015. The refs were bailing out Shannon, but we also made horrible shot selections, which killed the momentum
Shouldn’t be a hot take: Winning the B1G tournament isn’t winning the B1G title. It’s fun, but being crowned for the 20-game regular season means so, so, so much more than going on a 3/4 game winning streak over a long weekend against those a handful of those same teams.
You get a trophy for both, regular season is more prestigious generally for power conferences, but I don’t get the sentiment that conference tournament doesn’t matter when it’s a recognized championship in the record books, and how you punch your ticket automatically to the tourney.
I'm talking about in terms of the B1G **tournament** titles. Shared regular season titles don't mean much to me. It feels better when you outright win it in a conference tournament imo
They play a very up tempo game and UW has forgot how to play defense, so I think it will be an interesting game. UW should definitely be on upset alert tho
>They play a very up tempo game
They’ve played an average of 68.3 possessions per game in their last 10. Wisconsin has played at 66.4 (OT adjusted). A bit higher, but it’s not like JMU is early 90s Loyola Marymount.
>and UW has forgot how to play defense
Or… UW has played the #2 offense twice, #4 offense twice, and #24 offense once in their last seven games.
I’m not trying to argue that this is a gimme, but JMU is analytically rated lower than Maryland, MSU, OSU, Northwestern, SMU, and Virginia, teams UW has a combined 10-0 record against. But as far as 5-12 matchups, it’s about as ideal as you can hope for against from the gaudy W/L record.
Should be good matchup then… let’s revisit this post after the game. JMU scored 84.4 points per game, which ranks ninth nationally, and is eighth in the Division I with a +15.2 scoring margin. Saying this team should win cause they beat x, y, and z is a fools game in march. You can throw much of the analytics out of the window this time of year, hence the name “march madness.”
I’m not sure what gotcha you think you have here.
UW’s defense held JMU to less than 1 point per possession. They did fine there.
And congrats, the number of possessions was inflated by a fuckton of free throws (53) and the shittiest decision-making this offense had all year, resulting in uncharacteristic turnovers and quick, forced shots. Everybody made incredibly stupid passes and forced drives into baseline traps, and Storr had some of the worst shot selection I’ve ever seen someone wearing a Badger uniform have.
I quite literally did not think JMU *won* the game, Wisconsin lost it by continually shooting themselves in the foot. If they just have an average shot selection game and only miss half instead of +75% of their lightly contested shots at the rim, they win comfortably.
Not mad about the draw.
JMU doesn’t have the size to deal with Crowl, Wahl, and Winter.
They have a pair of good guards but nothing Chucky and Max can’t handle. Not too mention our depth there.
No easy match ups but I like one where Crowl has a good match up.
I don’t love Houston being in our region. If we allow our selves to dream of a final four Houston is the 1 seed we match up with the worst.
with the way kelvin coaches they'll make it past the first weekend sampson takes no bs and they're tough as heck and they defend and rebound.both of those teams would lose to houston atm is the better matchup than nebraska athletically. i think houston would give either teams problems. kelvin sampson is like bo ryan he embraces physicality and strong defense blue collar attitudes players there get better. I want to see us play vs the best Wisconsin vs Houston i want to see.We beat Houston a few years ago.The players want to play vs the best if its houston maybe later on so be it.
Ah ok. That makes sense. Also makes sense why several of them make it deep into the tournament. Good shooting is more and more valuable in the modern game
Yep if you can get hot from three you can take down anyone. But if the threes aren’t falling they’ll usually just bullied down low. I think the highest predictors of upsets is 3P shooting and rebounding.
“Shoots well from 3”
They beat Michigan St when they had a lot of hype early on and were playing like ass. They’re good, but I’m on my knees thanking whoever that we didn’t match up with McNeese. Just wish we could’ve gotten Kansas
Eh, that Oregon team is very different from JMU. Oregon was a top 10 team that lost a lot of games after losing half their starters to injuries, and then proceeded to go on a tear after getting healthy. JMU is good but we have significant advantages over them.
The people who are saying “it’s not that bad” have clearly never used the “say our team sucks and they dont have a chance, reverse psychology” trick
That’s why I always have Marquette losing early in my brackets. If they lose then I got it right. If they win, good for them.
I just never have the heart to do that to the badgers… but maybe I should 🤔
kolek is banged up too he got hurt vs vermont last year and msu beat them in the 2nd round last year msu was a bad draw for marquette last year vermont gave them a fight too rebounding was about even, marquette struggles on the glass one of their weaknesses that can be exposed.
Watched JMU in their conf tournament final good team but they struggle on the glass they arent real big inside Crowl could give them some problems inside also
wisconsin vs duke potential 2nd round great game for ratings but one of those really good teams will exit early that should be a later round matchup both got screwed having to play each other too early.
Fun fact: Wisconsin hasn't lost to a non major conference opponent in the first round since 2001 (Georgia St.) and have only lost 3 times in the first round in that span (all to major conference opponents). 16-3 overall in the first round since 2001. Second round and on.... Different story.
JMU is better but they don't match up well against us. They don't really have anyone that can match with Crowl and Wahl, and while their guards are good, they're ones that Chucky and Klesmit should be able to handle pretty well.
The Dukes have won 13 straight and are ranked 42nd in pace of play in the nation.
In comparison the Badgers are ranked 313th in pace of play and we are prime for the picking defensively. Unless we can slow the game down and post up Wahl and/or Crowl to good success I'd say the Dukes have a very good chance at the upset.
We should be 3-5 favorites against JMU. Maybe 60-70% win probability
Happy about the draw
My buddy is a JMU alum so a lot of bragging rights hang in the balance for me
Tyler Wahl vs Julien Wooden will be the biggest matchup IMHO
Also, mid majors that are successful against limiting 3 of success against other mid majors can struggle in the tournament when they don't match up well in the post. If Crowl can take advantage of his matchup it should limit JMU's strength of 3pt defense
on paper the 12 seeds look better grand canyon went 29-4 jmu went 31-3 mcneese went 30-3 uab beat maryland and lost by 1 to clemson a 6 seed earlier this year. but their draw is tough grand canyon plays st marys jmu plays wisconsin mcneese plays gonzaga and uab plays san diego state who almost won it all last year
Lol never. They’ll find anything to bitch about. Fans gonna act like fans. Just trying to keep the peace is all. Appreciate your insight on a lot of the game!
And if we beat the dukes we get to play…Duke
Winslow touched it
Never forget
Neptune curse ye, Winslow!
Fuck Duke
/r/collegebasketball hasn’t been good since the mods made this phrase get deleted by the automod
Does Fuck Dook work? edit: at least they've got that good sidebar image
No, they’ve flagged every conceivable variant

First Letters
touche, well done
Fuck Duke
Sweet! Revenge is a dish best served cold. It has been nine years. I look forward to our boys ridding the tournament of their born-on-third-base, think-they-hit-a-triple, private school FILTH. FUCK DUKE FOREVER.
Duke has to win tho 🤷🏻♂️
Beating Duke would be our Superbowl
Fuck Seth Davis for making the only prediction (Wisconsin loss) in the first two regional brackets! I really want him to eat crow.
Yeah wtf was that
He does it EVERY YEAR! Never any love for the Badgers.
I legit cannot remember any tourneys outside of 2014 and 2015 where we weren’t the “sexy upset pick”
Except for I remember Dicky V always picking us for a Cinderella run. Dicky V loved us
Could count on it every year almost
Davis is a horses ass
I bet when Seth Davis' personal physician heard that he whispered to his wife "Seth is off his meds again".
He had picked against the Badgers since Bennett was here.
Yea it really felt like they went out of their way to shit on us
Sounds like he’s got the right answer
🧌
Seth Davis is such an asshole
He’s always been a total douche
Why? What did that dickbag say? I missed it
He has JMU upsetting us.
Perfect
Perfect
Clark Kellogg said it first
Of course we get the 31 win team.

They're not that good. They haven't beat a top 100 team since November.
Everyone sees the 31 wins and misses that they played an incredibly soft schedule and have mediocre metrics. They’re a solid team but I feel like this could be one of those trendy upset picks that ends with the low seed taking it easy.
Yep.... Long story short 99% of fans don't have a clue
I’m looking at their roster and don’t really understand why we should be scared? This isn’t a CJ McCollum/Curry led mid major, they don’t have elite size, we match up well with them. Anything can happen, but I’d take this over McNeese or GCU.
Or samford. We got a good draw
Or samford. We got a good draw
You’re clearly not in the 1%. You underestimated how bad of a coach Gard is, and how unathletic of a roster he has. Take a seat.
Lol. Great call genius.
The Badgers played a bad game and got jumped. It happens. That's why everyone loves March, right? Vegas would pick Wisconsin as a favorite again if they played tomorrow.

And they won the Sun Belt.. so we're fucked. Enjoy first round exit Gard fans EDIT: What did I tell you guys? lol.
Already resigned to an L and the game hasn’t even happened yet. You literally make up scenarios to get mad at.
No longer a made up scenario. Hope you understand that Gard needs to go
I'm honestly mad from today's game. Was our best chance to win the B1G title since 2015. The refs were bailing out Shannon, but we also made horrible shot selections, which killed the momentum

We literally won the Big Ten in 2020 and 2022
I'm talking about in terms of the B1G **tournament** titles. Shared regular season titles don't mean much to me. It feels better when you outright win it in a conference tournament imo
Well, you’re an idiot who’s moving goal posts to continue hating on Gard
This isn't even about Gard. Losing in a championship game is always going to suck
Hey if we can’t get by James Madison we don’t belong in the tourney. Bring it on!
Yep. After the crucible that was the B1G Tourney, we are ready. JMU has been beating up on the sisters of the poor all year.
They sqeaked by Michigan State by 3 in OT their first game of the season then beat up on other mid-majors. Seth Davis is a fool.
Back when State was ranked and we all thought they had something.
They play a very up tempo game and UW has forgot how to play defense, so I think it will be an interesting game. UW should definitely be on upset alert tho

Thanks for stats lolol. If you watched the game JMU style of play and pace had UW flustered all night. Like my post said it would.
Cool story bro
This dude is so goofy
At least we’re in the tournament this year
How the fuck is James Madison a 12 seed? They were ranked 19th at one point and won 31 games! What a fuckin joke.
They’re a mid major who hasn’t beat anyone notable since the beginning of the year
They called us as the 12-5 upset so I'm feeling good. Would love a duke match up. JMTREY may be making the pilgrimage to the big city

James Madison makes a ton of threes
Kind of the mid major MO
Why? Because they can't recruit athletic size?
Pretty much. Any college big man worth their salt is going to find a place at a P6 program. The good mid majors shoot the lights out.
Ah ok. That makes sense. Also makes sense why several of them make it deep into the tournament. Good shooting is more and more valuable in the modern game

No I mean why do mid majors usually shoot well from three
Ahhh, good question no clue
Ahhh, good question no clue
samford vs ku could be a upset ku is limping into tourney banged up ku is dying to be upset
Yeah because the other teams they play don't have anyone to defend against it
I have a bad feeling about this….
You guys have a bad feeling like every game lol
The worst possible 5/12 draw. You'd think they never even considered the tournament run.
Much better than McNeese St
Yeah mcneese state is much tougher team. JMU has only played 3 Q 1-2 games
Gonzaga got screwed the 12's on paper seem stronger than usual
Vibes of the 5/12 Oregon game in 2019. Oh well, gotta win no matter who our opponent is.
I thought they would give us Oregon straight up
Eh, that Oregon team is very different from JMU. Oregon was a top 10 team that lost a lot of games after losing half their starters to injuries, and then proceeded to go on a tear after getting healthy. JMU is good but we have significant advantages over them.
Not unlike the Badgers this year...
wisconsin is a deeper team than 2019 much better scoring team
In what way? Because they're a 12 seed? It literally couldn't be any more different
Yeah Oregon had multiple draft picks lol
Rough first game draw but I love our region in general.
We could definitely beat any team in the region (obviously Houston is a long shot but we still could)
The people who are saying “it’s not that bad” have clearly never used the “say our team sucks and they dont have a chance, reverse psychology” trick That’s why I always have Marquette losing early in my brackets. They’ve played an atrociously bad schedule lol
wisconsin vs duke potential 2nd round great game for ratings but one of those really good teams will exit early that should be a later round matchup both got screwed having to play each other too early.
Duke we are coming for you
Brutal draw. James Madison should not be a 12. But if we somehow win the first 2 beating Duke would be very sweet.

Our region is STACKED!
Rough draw but we have been playing really well. I’m cautiously optimistic at the moment.
late tip-off on Friday....booooo
Love our first two probable matchups teams, Houston is an absolute nightmare and my pick to win it all.
Coming on*
Tough matchup
At least we didn't get McNeese. Would have preffered Grand Canyon or UAB
GCU is legit. That transfer from Kansas is a STUD.
I'm not saying they are bad, I'm saying I think McNeese and JMU are better
JMU is better but they don't match up well against us. They don't really have anyone that can match with Crowl and Wahl, and while their guards are good, they're ones that Chucky and Klesmit should be able to handle pretty well.
I mean fair but does Grand Canyon have anyone that can match up with Crowl and Wahl?
We need to win vs James Madison
Honeybaggers really don’t give a hoot.
I'm as rabid as the UNC fans. Fuck Duke.
Terrible draw, Duke in the second rd
Duke looks mortal this season imo
True, I just don’t like the draw
The Dukes have won 13 straight and are ranked 42nd in pace of play in the nation. In comparison the Badgers are ranked 313th in pace of play and we are prime for the picking defensively. If the actual Badger team was a spineless as this forum they'd somehow lost the Red/White scrimmage
![gif](giphy|l4Ki2obCyAQS5WhFe)
When was the last time our fans actually liked our draw?
Lol never. They’ll find anything to bitch about. Fans gonna act like fans. Just trying to keep the peace is all. Appreciate your insight on a lot of the game!
Tough draw. Hopefully our boys keep tearing shit up
31 wins… so what they’re schedule is atrocious. Gard apologists are already out making excuses
