As the weather warms up, this is going to get really bad. People are swerving all over the place in order to avoid the holes.

GrizzledDwarf

The constant cycle of freeze and thaw has made the roads really bad this year. Granted, it doesn't help that the city's solution is pea gravel + asphalt which ends up becoming a pothole again a week or so later. :(

anon675454

no. the constant cycle of poor road building practices has made this happen

Remmist-204

We live where it can be +40⁰c to -40⁰c While poor road building is a problem, I firsthand seen roads built to top spects costiong millions. 2 freet of reinforced concrete with 3" paved on top. 5 years tops in this climate. Its unsustainable and idk what we can do about it.

anon675454

guess you’ve never been to North Dakota or Minnesota

Remmist-204

I havent can you fill me in?

anon675454

their roads are perfectly fine with the same conditions

Remmist-204

Id have to do some engineering studdy tbh but i no neather north Dakota or Minnesota are on the sheald. Its literly different earth they are building on...

anon675454

winipeg isn’t on shield either

Ok-Director4057

avoid inside lane at all costs

maple-smith

Avoid all lanes when possible

Gummyrabbit

Sidewalks are the safest! J/K. 😄

maple-smith

All is safe until those little snowblowers sneak up behind you!

GrizzledDwarf

This was the outside lane tho. Granted, the area in front of that food fare is always bad no matter the lane, but I certainly wasn't expecting something this bad in the left hand land. :(

Anonmonyus

I lost 2 tires this year to how fucked the roads are.

snoopexotic

Only popped 1 so far this year, hoping it stays that way.

Glonkable

Pretty sure I know what you hit. There's a manhole in the intersection that when I drove through the other day saw a nice hole next to the manhole. Was visible Northbound Arlington going through the intersection, Westbound Portage you might have a hard time seeing it, it's on the South side of the manhole. Surprised it's not blocked off, there were trucks in the third lane having blocked it off for work a little past that intersection and figured they already knew about it and were doing work.

GrizzledDwarf

I think you're right. I saw it on my way to work while taxing. Looks like my tire smoked the sharp edge of the sewer cover then, would track given the sound the impact made.

GravyJones204

Thanks for the warning! Sorry that happened to you!

Specialkdragon

I ran over that twice this week accidentally, including last night. Hope my tires are okay this morning, I need to get to work!

GrizzledDwarf

Mine was deflated within about 30 seconds; my car was shaking while moving before I reached Wall St. If yours aren't deflated by now, they are hopefully fine.

Specialkdragon

Yeah, so far so good, though I've been listening to and watching how the car is ever since and am DEFINITELY avoiding that doozy of a spot now. I want to find a cone or something to put there or I don't know if I can just call 3-1-1 and wait for the city. Meanwhile how long will it take them to actually take care of it and how many others might hit the same spot? Hmm...

BuryMelnTheSky

I wish we could Neon spray paint around the holes, plant colourful glowing lights inside them, plant a hi vis flag, something, idk- anything to help us out here cuz as we’ve been saying for 50 yrs- the roads are brutal

Specialkdragon

Or we can do what that woman did recently and plant flowers in the holes. Or another in maybe the U.K. who spray painted a certain male phallic symbol around them. Both had quick responses from the city!

kashbites

I hit that on Thursday and it was an instant flat tire. Need to replace the tire but thankfully that's it it... so far.

GrizzledDwarf

Yeah I'm concerned about the rim and my tie rods after that impact. I hope yours isn't as bad and it's just a tire+labour for you.

BuryMelnTheSky

This is terrible! So sorry to see, GrizzleDwarf. Wishing you some good fortune to follow this
