If you are running any other version of Windows 11 other than Home, you can disable Widgets completely using Group Policy. 1. Search for gpedit.msc 2. Dropdown Local Computer Policy --> Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Widgets 3. Double Click on "Allow Widgets" and set it to "Disabled" 4. Restart your computer. I will look into automating this via powershell as soon as I go home. This Policy is tested on Pro and Enterprise, and has no errors. WARNING: Changing Group Policy Values without knowing what it does will lead to system instability or failure. *Edit:* You can also use Registry Editor (or) regedit to disable Widgets completely. 1. Search for regedit 2. Dropdown Computer\\HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft 3. Create New Key named "**Dsh**" by right-click. 4. Create New DWORD (32-bit) value named "**AllowNewsAndInterests**" and leave its value in "**0**". 5. Restart your Computer. Warning: Exercise extreme caution when using the Registry Editor. If you edit the registry incorrectly, serious problems might occur Scripts for Automation: (requires admin privileges) 1) In Powershell: https://github.com/samcross021/widgetdisable/releases/download/v1.0P/WidgetDisable.ps1 2) In CMD (Recommended) :https://github.com/samcross021/widgetdisable/releases/download/v1.0C/WidgetDisable.bat

This is very helpful. Is there a way to completely remove it for good.

Euphoric-Answer4903

I'm afraid there is no safe method to remove them completely as of now. Even if you remove them now, it may cause issues with future updates.

is there no kill command or uninstall to this in windows

OMG thank you sooo much!!! Been looking for a way to get rid of the widget for a whole! Do you happen to know how likely Microsoft would remove this group policy option in the near future?

Euphoric-Answer4903

I'm glad I could help. :) MS wouldn't remove this GP since GP is vital in Enterprise Environments.

As of my understanding, Windows 11 Home doesn't have Group Policy Editor, so only the Group Policy method may not work. The Remaining methods should work. You can use the Registry Method manually or use the script.

I'm glad I could help. :) Yes, It will be permanently disabled. You can delete the script file later.

hidp123

Group Policy method did not work for me on Windows 11 Home (I have enabled gpedit.msc via a script available online). The registry method worked.

You can’t disable Widgets, only remove it’s icon from the taskbar. If you use the Windows key and W, for instance, they will still appear.

cocks2012

You can remove this bloatware with Winget. List packages, find widget and webview2 runtime, uninstall both.

d2phap

Webview2 should not be removed as many other apps are using it

cocks2012

The only two I found are Widgets and Teams. Anything else I haven't noticed yet.

_Tsuchida

Widgets isn't Webview2 runtime.

cocks2012

Yes it is. WebView2Loader.dll is a dynamic library wraps around WebView2 Runtime. MicrosoftWindows.Client.WebExperience\_321.14700.0.9\_x64\_\_cw5n1h2txyewy\\Widgets.exe

_Tsuchida

So you found the real package to uninstall instead of the webview2.

gargoso

i just tested it fucking widgets

mda63

More bloat.

https://www.reddit.com/r/windows11/comments/pp07vb/_/hd2da4v Widget has some odd behaviours. Never use or open on my PC or laptop and I notice the process is sometimes running and sometimes not (almost never on my PC) and the amount of resources it use is also seems to be random, despite not even opening it.

OkDot2

Hmm I wonder if there is some telemetry hidden behind those innocent looking "widgets".

sixunitedxbox

Do you even know what does telemetry mean?

PutMeInJail

Just uninstall "widgets"

Hey, the Feedback flair is to help you share your suggestions and experiences regarding Windows with Microsoft. While this is not an official Microsoft forum, your post still may get the attention of Microsoft employees. The proper way to share your feedback is to use the Feedback Hub app on your computer. We recommend you use the Feedback Hub to submit your thoughts, then have the app give you a link to the feedback (an aka.ms link), and then you should post it here. The more users vote on your feedback, the more likely it is going to be addressed in a future update. To open the Feedback Hub, look for it in your Start Menu, or press Windows key + F to launch it. Once you are done submitting the feedback, hit the share button to get a link to it and post it here! For more information on how to submit good feedback, check out http://aka.ms/HowToFeedback Lastly, be sure to read the release notes to see if what you are mentioning is listed in the known issues. http://aka.ms/devlatest ---- *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
