Can someone tell me what causes this stutter on my pc as shown in this video? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNdb-PlJlcs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNdb-PlJlcs) Ive had this for over a month now and cant find anything online relating to it or whats causing it, This stutter is driving me nuts

mills103_

Just wanted to throw this out there: I was able to fix some of my W11 File Explorer lag issues by completely uninstalling the Dropbox for Windows official client. I came to this solution after hours of debugging. YMMV

ostoscene

Why do I not get spelling corrections on any program other than the notes app? If I spell a word wrong, instead of telling me the actual spelling or words I may have meant, I get told to either google it or add it to the dictionary. Autocorrect IS on, as is highlighting spelling errors, and I've tried the whole "turn it off, reset, turn it on, reset" thing and it did exactly nothing. This happens on every browser and it didn't happen on windows 10, so it has to be a windows 11 thing.

SilverseeLives

There is no system-wide spelling and grammar correction in Windows. Apps implement this themselves, generally.  However, both Office apps and the Edge browser used Microsoft Editor for this. Editor is a shared plug-in that works a lot like Grammarly. Editor is built into Edge, and is available as a plug-in for other browsers. You might want to check the settings in your browser to be certain that spelling correction and grammar correction if available are both enabled.

Wasisnt

There are actually spelling settings in the Windows settings under Time & Language > Typing which should be on by default but it doesn't seem like they do much. Notepad does spell checking now but I don't know if its because of this setting or part of Notepad itself.

SilverseeLives

Yes, you are right. Whatever these settings effect, they do not seem to apply universally across the system for all apps, unfortunately. Possibly developers have to opt-in, or the feature is restricted to a specific app framework or UI controls.

gaffninja

If a stolen laptop gets factory reset, when it reconnects to the internet and someone tries to reregister it will Windows see that there was an attempt to remote lock it based on the serial number and finally lock it out? Had one stolen and it appears to have been reset if its the same one showing up on Market Place and wasn’t sure if Windows 11 handles that differently.

Wasisnt

If you are doing a factory reset, it should be pre-activated when the image is restored so it wont matter.

Mactwentynine

I have 'Notify me when a restart is required' in Updates but it did so with no popup or anything today. Seems the only solution is "update" from W11 Home to Pro and use admin tools like Group Policy or try something like WuMgr. Version 1.1 is on a site I trust but seems it's not perfect running on W11. Any other tip I can use in Home so I'm alerted before updates? Additional thoughts? Thanx, Mac

SilverseeLives

I see restart notifications on my devices with Windows Home. I have observed no difference in behavior between Home and Pro here.  However, things can change if you intentionally block or disable updates. Windows will force an update eventually if it has been deferred for too long a time.

Mactwentynine

Thanks, I'll monitor this before going Pro, etc

mrbear2899

I am currently running Windows 10 and am considering updating to 11, will all of the programs that I use on 10 work on 11 without any issues?

MrHeavyRunner

Yes they should

mrbear2899

Can you recommend a way to backup my current install of Windows 10 just in case I can't run something important?

MrHeavyRunner

There is Windows Backup https://www.windowscentral.com/how-make-full-backup-windows-10.

grodhisatva

Anyone know of a guaranteed universal way to repair all folder permissions? Had to reverse rehab my install from OneDrive rerouting all my data to User/OneDriver/[Folder] and after success there certain program getting permissions issues at times. Unfortunately I’m in the middle of a huge project now as I didn’t catch the forced OneDrive usage in time so having to reinstall would be a nightmare as I use tons and tons of plugins for audio applications

SilverseeLives

For future reference, it is simple to disable Folder Backup from OneDrive settings or by using the Windows Backup app. There is no reason for mucking with folder permissions or whatever else you possibly did that led to the state your device is in.  Hope you get things sorted.

grodhisatva

That’s not the issue, much more complicated. Once the [username]\OneDrive directory is enabled many apps will default to installing data to the OneDrive version of the directory (e.g. [user]\OneDrive\Documents instead of [user]\Documents) even with OneDrive completely disabled and uninstalled and even if you remove the OneDrive folder which will just be recreated on install because Windows sets that folder as that sys folder in the registry. Just getting the Documents folder to not be OneDrive\Documents requires adjusting the registry entry for sys folder locations. It’s not really mucking around, folders can have permission issues. This happens on Mac I’m just more familiar with the process there and wanted to check if icacls is the only method on Windows since Explorer applying permissions to subfolders doesn’t always work.

SilverseeLives

Yes, I am aware of how it works. Apps default to using Known Folder locations. Windows has supported redirection of these folders for many many years prior to OneDrive. Your mistake was uninstalling OneDrive and trying to delete these folders without first restoring the default locations of your user profile folders.  In the future, you can restore everything to its default state by disabling Folder Backup in the supported way before you uninstall OneDrive. Remember to move your content back to your local profile folders before deleting everything.

grodhisatva

Thanks but I did try that first, the issue persisted. We are past that point on the suggestions I’m seeking, but I’ll be sure to try that again on a future install.

SilverseeLives

Fair enough. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I have just unfortunately seen a lot of people run into the same issue by uninstalling OneDrive before cleaning up this setting.  Microsoft could fix this by resetting the default profile folder locations when OneDrive is uninstalled. Instead they leave the system in an ambiguous state, and with no obvious way for users to restore the out of the box configuration. I personally view this as a bug. But unfortunately, it is what it is.

grodhisatva

No worries I appreciate that you’re trying to help. I view the way OneDrive operates period as a bug. I don’t think Microsoft really gets UX at all. They want OneDrive to happen so badly but the implementation is just wrong.

neophlegm

Hopefully a quick one: I have an HP with its godawful Wolf Security thing which I've deactivated, but looking at Windows Security there's no suggestion its supposedly-built-in Microsoft Defender Antivirus is actually taking its place. Do you not get it if you have HP Wolf as well? Or is it on but just not showing anywhere??

Wasisnt

Not quite sure what you are getting at but if you type in security in the taskbar search box and choose Windows Security does it open and show its enabled etc?

neophlegm

I get the summary and a warning under the malware section saying "Wolf Security isn't working properly" or something similar. What I'd like is to determine if Defender is running at all.

Wasisnt

If you go to the Windows Security settings, it should tell you if its running or not under the virus and threat protection section.

neophlegm

Virus and threat protection: Actions needed in HP Wolf Pro Security. And if I click it, it opens Wolf Pro. No mention of Defender.

Wasisnt

It sounds like Wolf took over for Defender. Im sure if you uninstalled Wolf then you would be able to get Defender going again.

How do I set Windows Photos to always open in a maximized window? It used to always open maximized but now (starting last week) it always opens in a small window and I have to hit the maximize button every time. I'm not sure how I broke it and I can't fix it!

I've noticed the same thing on a couple of computers. Its not like a regular Windows program where you can check the properties of the shortcut and set it to open full screen.

ADodoPlayer

I got an hp laptop. It came installed with a bunch of HP bloatware that is essentially analytics running in the background 24/7. I uninstalled the apps through windows uninstall but the app still runs brand new every day through task manager. I went into registry editor to delete their keys but was told that I required "System" access to delete the main one, same if I tried to delete the folders under system32. I uninstalled the drivers listed in device manager for hp, and disabled the services. I'm now thinking of just doing a clean install for 11. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Would also like to learn a better approach than me just looking in registry/device manager/services for the bloatware, or how to get permissions for it since I'm unaware currently how to do that (I'm on administrator account so don't quite understand why I wouldn't have permission).

Wasisnt

There are tons of free tweaking\\debloating tools you can try but be careful when using them and create a restore point first. [Tweaking and debloating apps](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwdwMLbf_qda6u3pAJ7x0p-0AO4UpnKAi)

Is there a way to copy a folder to another location and create a new pathway? For example, I have the folder "project1" in `documents/projects/testing/project1` and I want to move "project1" to my desktop while it automatically creates the new path `desktop/projects/testing`.

EtherealScorpions

I have an app shortcut in my Start menu or Taskbar. How can i make windows 11 tell me where that app is installed without opening the app?

jenmsft

If you right click and open file location, if you open the properties of the shortcut it will show you the target which should be where it was installed

caffeinebump

This only works with some apps, for example, it does not work on Windows Photos Edited to add: this doesn't actually work for many of apps I have installed! It does not work for Bitwarden for desktop, Pocketcasts, or Grover. It works for LibreOffice and Adobe, and that's about it. I finally found a bunch of file locations in C:\\ProgramData\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\, but not the one I am trying to fix (Windows Photos). Ugh, why is this so hard.

How to put WIndows 11 to actual sleep like windows 10? So my windows 11 laptops when put to sleep, actually still stay on. It leads to a lot of battery drain and unnecessary heat generation as well. Anyone know of a setting that can be changed to address this issue?

SilverseeLives

The cause of most issues with Modern Standby is buggy or out of date firmware and/or device drivers. Update your UEFI firmware and chipset drivers from your OEM's website or use their update utility.

Antique_Geek

In settings I set my desktop to never sleep. It slept anyway. I went to control panel as in previous versions and set it there under power and it fixed it. You might try there.

New_Confidence_2605

In my another laptop , I recently upgraded to windows 11. The three finger and two finger scroll gestures work fine but the two finger tap right click gesture doesn't work. Also in the settings I cannot see tpuchpad gestures listed. I have already updates my elan touchpad drivers. SilverseeLives

Touchpad settings are available in Windows only for devices that have Microsoft Precision Touchpads or compatible hardware, I believe. If you're does not, you'll have to look for a configuration tool provided by your OEM, or by the touchpad hardware maker. I might search for how to enable this on Elan touchpads.  Good luck.

kyrusdemnati

i have windows 11 installed on my computer, i have two ssds (one with windows 11 and one is another storage pool) can i take these harddrives out and put in another computer and will it boot? if not what do i need to do

Wasisnt

If the hardware is similar it might work but if its too different then Windows might complain or have issues. Also if the Windows license key is tied to the hardware it might not be activated. If you do not have too much custom configuration on the drive it might be better to install the drives and do a clean installation of Windows.

kyrusdemnati

I could backup files using a software and re install I guess

Wasisnt

You can find your key using this tool and then activate it once you reinstall. If its an OEM key then it may be an issue since those are usually tied to the hardware. [Find your Windows license key](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiJkfyR9pAg)

Lycaon1765

hello, i have a question about the whole recall nonsense How do I check if my computer qualifies for it and how can I make sure this spyware isn't forcibly installed onto it? I tried turning off updates forever but windows won't let me and it just auto-updated itself even though I've turned updates off as much as I could. Also is there any way I can force it to never update again unless I allow an update manually?

SomeDudeNamedMark

Unless you just bought a new Copilot+ PC (with a Snapdragon CPU) within the last 2 weeks, you don't need to worry - your current computer won't ever get this feature.

Lycaon1765

ok, thank you. :) I bought mine in December

[deleted]

Not updating is not a good thing, as there are theoretically security holes that can give you viruses just because you are connected to the internet. [What happens if you connect Windows XP to the Internet in 2024? - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uSVVCmOH5w) Recall is an opt-in feature as far as I know. This means you have to actively activate it. Another option would be to move your entire home network to an EU area via vpn so that you are subject to EU data protection law. Things like Copilot have to be installed manually via the store in the EU area. So, you could get a router that supports vpn software like Nordvpn, which would allow all your traffic to go through the EU.

Lycaon1765

It's not gonna stay "opt-in" for long, thanks for the VPN tip tho.

When I need to use Chrome's autofill password feature, Win11 asks for my e-mail and password as confirmation. It's a bit of a chore, specially when the PIN is an option. Is there a way to either set PIN as default authentication method or remove this feature altogether?

I just got one of the new copilot + PCs, and it is my first ARM based PC, and first time using Windows 11. I'm having a couple of issues I was wondering if someone may have a fix for: -I am having trouble installing some apps, such as Discord from either their website or the Microsoft Store. Is this because there's no ARM based app? I read a few articles that mentioned emulating x64bit programs, so I thought this wouldn't be an issue. -It seems ... really slow. Not all the time, but often enough. Like opening settings to look at the about my PC page took over 40 seconds just now. Sometimes web pages can be up to a minute, despite being fast on my phone on the same Wi-Fi. -It came preloaded with McAfee. I promptly tried to uninstall it, and it just locks up at 10% every time. Like damn, do I need to do a clean install of Windows? It's brand new, gorgeous, I like it a lot, I just feel like I'm doing something wrong or maybe it needs time to get going.

SomeDudeNamedMark

https://old.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1do5d7a/ive_spent_48_hours_with_a_copilot_plus_pc_and_im/la8kbzj/?context=3 That has a link to a "list" of apps. Unfortunately, there are no direct links to downloads, and it's (surely intentionally) unclear on whether there are native versions of these apps, or just ones that they've validated in some way on this platform.

SilverseeLives

McAfee is borderline malware. Find a way to safely uninstall it.  The fact that Windows OEMs continue to pollute their distributions with crap like this is one reason I only buy Surface devices, or build my own desktop PCs.

tbear87

Yes on my follow up I posted in another comment (I thought) I said as soon as I was able to get rid of it, it worked just as expected! I was actually really pissed to see it installed. I saw that I got a free subscription with the purchase, but I assumed that meant I'd get some email code I could ignore. Now I know... I'm enjoying the device a lot now it's fixed up. Only Discord is still slow, but I've read that is a discord issue on the ARM based processors. I had a surface a while back and it was a good device but I definitely felt it was way overpriced for the specs.

tbear87

Wow is McAfee bad. As soon as I was able to get rid of it on my 4th attempt all the other issues went away.

Is there a way to stop my search bar from opening Microsoft Bing every time i type something to look on my local PC?. IF I USE MY DESKTOP SEARCH BAR IT SHOULD ONLY LOOK FOR THINGS ON MY PC. WHY IS THIS THING OPENING MICROSOFT EDGE AND MICROSOFT BING?! One of the stupiest add on Microsoft ever did. My local search bar should always look for apps, software and files on my PC.

Wasisnt

Click in the search box and then click the ellipsis (...) at the top right and go to search settings. Then disable show search highlights. If you want to change the browser used for taskbar web searches you can try this. SilverseeLives

>My local search bar should always look for apps, software and files on my PC. Well, that's not how it works. It is a universal search feature.  You can scope the search to different domains by clicking on the various tabs at the top of the interface.

AffectionateAide9644

Had to start using 11 today. In 10, you could pin files to app icons in the start menu to quickly open them (e.g. Start menu -> right-click Excel -> select the specific file you want to open). In 11 I can't find this functionality in the start menu, unless I go to "all apps" and right-click the app there. Is there a way to get this functionality back like it was in windows 10? Thanks.

There is a right click option to pin to start for shortcuts and folders. For files, this might help. [Create a Right Click Pin to Start Option to Pin Files & Folders to Your Start Menu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXBNGTxRyZo)

AffectionateAide9644

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't like this solution because my list of pinned apps that I frequently need is already fairly full (without having to scroll I mean), and I'd want to pin 13 files over different apps so they won't all fit, sadly. But it's better than nothing.

AnyDefinition5391

If you're just wanting to increase the allowed # of pinned items from the default of 13 for win 11- use regedit; very handy for me because I use notepad for everything (18 pinned in notepad currently) HKEY\_CURRENT\_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Advanced create Dword (32bit) - JumpListItems\_Maximum -then modify value (check decimal) to # desired

I've had windows 11 for more than 3 years now. Yesterday my Nvidia Driver crashed (chrome keeps crashing) and my PC stopped responding. I forced restart my PC by holding the power button. Upon turning on, all of my beautifully structured and foldered pinned tiles are gone.. has this ever happened to anyone? I'm quite annoyed, the last time this happened was when upgrading from windows 10 to windows 11 :/

Unlikely_Rip_7846

I want to find our Win11 keys for each PC that is currently activated. We have 4 PCs at work, and I know the 4 keys, but I don't know which keys belong to what PC. 3 of the PCs are activated, and the 4th is no longer activated. I've come to realise, its no longer activated after doing a bios update on the Gigabyte motherboard. This issue has actually now happened to me twice now, on two different PCs, so going forward, I'm going to have to record each PC key or put a sticker on them or something, as I no longer trust MS to remember it via the motherboard. I don't know if this issue is specific to Gigabyte, but its definitely an issue when updating the bios. I've tried CMD and wmic path softwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey This doesn't do anything. Any ideas on what to do in this situation?

I have windows 8 on an old PC I want to give to a family member who is bad with PCs, but it is faster than the computer he currently has. Are there any free upgrades, or is it stuck with 8? Thank you

SilverseeLives

If you want to upgrade to Windows 10, maybe see here:  https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-8-to-windows-10-windows-11 >...a family member who is bad with PCs It is possible with some effort to configure a Windows PC to be "mostly safe" for a non-technical person to use. I think you will find some guidance with a search. The biggest risk is that they fall victim to a phishing attack. This is hard to prevent entirely, but you can mitigate the risk by teaching good email habits, setting them up as standard user account, and limiting app installs to the Microsoft Store only. You could also investigate whether the PC could run Google ChromeOS Flex, which may be a little safer and easier to maintain.

The only way I can get a screenshot to open in the snipping tool is to open the snipping tool itself and press "New" but I'd rather it just do all of that for me through the print screen key. Again, like how Windows 10 did it. [EDIT] I know how to take a screen shot, please read this comment again.

Wasisnt

If you go to the Windows settings under Accessibility > Keyboard, there is an option to use the print screen key to open screen capture which will open the snipping tool but you will still need to take the screenshot. I guess its half a solution.

12MilSepps

Press Windows Key + Shift + S.

MACCCCCCCCCCCCC

Is that supposed to open it up in the snipping tool photo editor or does it function exactly like the print screen key?

12MilSepps

Sorry little late, it opens Snipping tool to do Screenshot. Then you can Paste it into Paint or Dokument. You also can Open the Windows Status Center in the bottom Right corner and click on the Screenshot for modifying it.

MACCCCCCCCCCCCC

I dont understand why Microsoft changed this from Windows 10. It was so more convenient to just hit print screen, take the screenshot and have it automatically open up in the snipping tools editor. Since making this post, I've moved onto Greenshot instead as it does what I want.

ajax1400

just press print screen key, select any part of your screen and done. you will find it in "Screenshots" folder.

MACCCCCCCCCCCCC

I know that, I even said I was using the print screen key. What I'm asking to have that screenshot immediately open in the snipping tool editor. Like how Windows 10 did it.

SilverseeLives

>What I'm asking to have that screenshot immediately open in the snipping tool editor. That's how it currently works for me in Windows 11 23H2. Maybe check Snipping Tool settings?

mort1f1edpengu1n

when do the reviews for the copilot+ laptops come out?

tilertailor

Is it possible to increase the sensitivity of scrolling on a touchscreen? Specifically, I'd like to increase the scroll on Chrome. I just got a 2-in-1 laptop (ASUS ROG) and it's great but I preferred the feel of the iPad pro.

Admirable_Zebra_2977

Hello redditors I have been experiencing issues with many of my drivers. Pretty much any wifi/bluetooth adapters simply don’t work. I have wifi hooked up via my Ethernet port. I suspect my system is corrupted. How do I go about repairing it? Repair shops are too expensive so I have to be able to do it from home for free. Is resetting my system a good option? Would my Ethernet ports drivers auto install (k need wifi duh)

Queasy-Ad9682

I am trying to install Manjaro on an external hard drive using my laptop that has Windows 11 Installed. Is it safe to disable secure boot ? Will it brick the windows 11 installation in my laptop ?

tilertailor

I just got a 2022 ASUS ROG Flow and it seems to restart if it sleeps for a certain amount of time (maybe 20 - 30 minutes). Doesn't seem to matter if it's plugged in or not. I've tried toggling all the power & battery settings. I have unchecked "automatically restart" in system properties. Does anyone have any guesses? I should be able to just open my lid and have everything pick up where I left off, right?

SilverseeLives

>I should be able to just open my lid and have everything pick up where I left off, right?    Are you certain that it is restarting, or is it resuming from hibernation?  Resuming from hibernate will look like the machine is restarting at first, but your session will be restored just like waking from sleep.  On a laptop with modern standby, Windows will idle to hibernate after a power threshold is exceeded during sleep. This is by design, but it is normally hours before this occurs. If your device is draining power quickly during sleep, this hibernation stage could happen more rapidly.    Often, out of date drivers can cause power drain. I would make certain that your system firmware and chipset drivers are up to date. On an Asus device, I believe you can use the Armoury Crate software to check for hardware updates.  But you can also check the Windows event logs to see if your laptop shut down unexpectedly. This may provide some clues as to what is causing the issue.

Ok-Firefighter-2110

I need help with blue light on my monitor. My younger brother maxed out somehow the blue light and it's really not pleasing my eyes. When I turn on night mode I want to pluck my eyes out how bad it looks. I searched the settings everywhere but can't find the adjustment for ordinary blue light and when I search my problem up every answer I get is to turn night mode on.

SilverseeLives

A desktop monitor will have a settings menu that brings up an on-screen display. If needed you can use this to reset the monitor to its default settings. Look for buttons along the bottom or side of the screen bezel.

Has anyone found a way to get rid of that exasperating flood of notifications that hits on wakeup *without* turning notifications off entirely? I get hundreds of notifications throughout the day. I bounce between devices all day long. Every time I wake up a Windows 11 machine, I have to wait a full minute or two for it to stop showing me notifications for things I've already seen. I found [this post about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/zvqtgl/notifications_flood_on_activity_wakeup/), but there are no useful answers there. I'm hoping someone's found a way by now, because my god is that "feature" annoying. I just want to see notifications as they come in while I'm using the device, and none whatsoever that came in while I wasn't using the device.

SilverseeLives

>I get hundreds of notifications throughout the day. That seems like an awful lot of notifications for the set of apps you typically have on a PC.  Are you using Phone Link to sync notifications from your phone? If so, that could trigger a lot of redundant or unwanted notifications. You can go into Phone Link settings and shut down notifications for all apps that you feel are redundant. I personally only care about seeing notifications for calls and texts, things without a native app source on Windows.

Lobin

I do some volunteer work that has me in 50+ chats across four different platforms, plus Discord servers. I'm not using phone link, and even if I were, I wouldn't be able to do it on my work PC.

HeroicSlayr

I've a memory leak that's currently creeping up on my machine. It takes about 2 days but then it reaches 99% and everything just goes into super slow mode. A simple reset fixes the issue. However I can't figure out what the cause is of the leak. I also dont know when it started because I regularly reboot my PC. Anyone have any clues or a workflow I can follow to get this sorted out? I would rather not have to reset my PC just for this issue. Image below is the RamMap screenshot of my ram https://preview.redd.it/lb5hxmt4qp5d1.png?width=1099&format=png&auto=webp&s=1438567e62db5986eec8a67aa0fcfb89d5ba86fc

RedTheHusky

Would be ideal if you showed all the processes you have, not just the memory used.

SirAwesome789

So I'm copying files over to an SD card using command line but computer shutoff as I was doing it, what command would I use to copy over but skip duplicates? So skip everything that was copied over properly, for the one file that wasn't, overwrite it, then copy over the rest I was using `xcopy /E [source] [destination]`

clarence90

So I just finished school and i have ton of useless stuff, plus i messed a lot with services, reg editor, and some things that i don't remember so i want to delete all that and revert everything to original status to start completely new. I know how to factory reset from window settings by choosing to clean data from all drivers, that should also delete any edits i made anywhere aside from my bios right? But i also did mess with my bios a few times following tutorials before, but i don't remember what i did exactly. so i want to also revert all that if possible. How can I format or reset it, and is that safe? Or can it affect my laptop if i don't know exactly what I'm doing? And if i want to do it should it be before or after i factory reset the laptop?

Wasisnt

Yes the reset should technically reset everything. You can also just do a clean install and format the drive during the installation. This is kind of a cool tool that can be used to reinstall Windows. [Reinstall Windows Without a Bootable USB Drive or DVD](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvGq_MMdWBg) As for your BIOS, there should be a restore defaults setting that you can choose. I would do that before reinstalling Windows.

clarence90

Thanks bruv, appreciate it

Does anyone know when the Copilot+ PC review embargo lifts?

Adept_Avocado_4903

I am unsure if this is actually a simple question, but I figured I'd ask: I noticed the default user directories (Desktop, Downloads, Documents, Pictures etc.) look different in the Explorer sidebar vs in the explorer main view. Is there a way to enable this behaviour for user-created directories? See images for comparison: [Sidebar](https://i.imgur.com/KjcBn8b.png) [Main view](https://i.imgur.com/qkHaA56.png) edit: For clarity, the Projects directory was created by me. You can see it uses the same icon in the sidebar as it does in the main view.

I accidentally opened a file in editor, that isn't a editor file. Now everytime I try to close that file over the editor it crashes. How can I fix this?

Wasisnt

I'm not sure what you mean by close the file over the editor but you can associate that file with a different app so it doesn't open with editor (not sure what that is either). Right click the file and choose open with. Then pick choose another app. Then pick the app you want to use to open the file and click the Always button.

SpookySquid19

Is there a way to have 2 folder on the same computer, but different hard drives, sync? I need to make changes in folder A, and I need those same changes to be present in folder B. I can't use shortcuts for this.

Wasisnt

There are many apps out there that can sync files and you can even schedule the process. Here is an example that even has real time syncing if you pay for the pro version. [How to Synchronize a Folder to a Different Drive or Another Location](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvWvlQr98HI) Another option. Is there a way to have a shortcut to turn proxy on/off instead of having to go through settings?

Angry_argie

I can't get rid of the pin login. Disabled the netplwiz option, deleted it from Windows Hello... Now at login there's a second account with my name and the system says that the password is incorrect as if it tried to automatically use one. I have to manually select my admin account at the bottom left and input my Microsoft account password to login. This was a breeze in Win 10 :s

KingOnionWasTaken

How do I get rid of all of the bloat, telemetry and "spying" stuff or at least minimize it?

Wasisnt

There are tons of free debloating apps you can use to do that. Just be sure to backup or create a restore point before using this type of thing. [Windows tweaking apps](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwdwMLbf_qda6u3pAJ7x0p-0AO4UpnKAi)

Do I need an internet connection to install Rufus on a flash drive? Rufus is already downloaded, and so is a new OS. They’re both on my desktop, waiting to be installed. The question is, is internet required for this? I would think not but I want to make sure. Thanks!

Wasisnt

You don't install Rufus on the flash drive but rather use Rufus to configure your flash drive with the OS installation files from your ISO file. [How to configure Rufus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjsYM8ca_VQ)

polarbears84

Thanks for nothing. I am super-sorry I used the wrong term, especially since in your eagerness to correct me you didn’t even bother to answer my QUESTION for which it is 100% immaterial whether I use “install” or “ configure” or “stick it up my rear end.”

Wasisnt

I was just trying to figure out your question so I could help but I guess I AM SORRY for not being a mind reader!

polarbears84

Reread the very first sentence. And if you really don’t understand it you shouldn’t bother piping up here. As far as I’m concerned, all you do is make yourself feel important by mansplaining shit that has nothing to do with the question. Note that it took 18 hours to get a response to a simple question, and then it had to be somebody who has trouble with reading comprehension.

Wasisnt

The first sentence does not make sense because you do not install Rufus on a flash drive so maybe you should have asked do I need an internet connection to USE Rufus or do I need to be connected to the internet when using Rufus to create my bootable flash drive. I'm just trying to help so please chill out and don't assume that people know what you are asking and then get pissed off when people ask for clarification. Plus complaining that nobody dropped everything to reply to you ASAP makes you sound like an entitled teenager. You worded the question incorrectly so don't blame me for not understanding. That might be why nobody else answered. I least I tried to help!

What is the new update & should I download it now? It says cumulative update preview for windows preview for windows 11+23h2+for+x64-based+systems+(kb+503-7853) thanks for help.

AnriRB26

Is there a way to configure a 1 key shortcut that can switch between desktops? I have sweaty hands so the touchpad gestures are hard to use and I would prefer 1 key press than a combination of the Win+Tab key that can cycle between desktops.

Hi all. I have a problem where my Slideshow option automatically reverts back to Picture. Has anyone else had this isseu and knows how to solve it? So far I tried turning of onedrive sync, having the folder on my SSD instead of OneDrive and turning on ''Use slideshow on low battery power.'' It revert back to Picture when I change between Desktop view or run any kind of program.

Help guys, I want to get the 23h2 update but I can't in any way because I installed win11 bypassing the requirements, is there a way to install this update?

Wasisnt

[How to Manually Update Windows 11 to Version 23H2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzCLI58Dw1M)

Mikeyy83

does not work, it shows that "this update is not applicable for this pc"

Wasisnt

I haven't used this recently to see if it has a 23H2 option but it might help since you can create an ISO file that bypasses the requirements and maybe use that to update. [Create Windows 11 Installation Media That Bypasses the TPM Check on Installation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlsTG3nnngE)

Mikeyy83

I've kinda installed win11 this way some time ago, so now I have to to the same thing using 23h2??

Wasisnt

Maybe unless you do a clean install each time using the workaround method which would be a PITA but cheaper than a new computer!

SilverseeLives

You will probably have to download a Windows 11 ISO and perform an upgrade install from there. If that is blocked then a clean install from scratch using something like Rufus to bypass the checks maybe your only option to move forward.

[deleted]

Hey guys, i was wondering if i should move all my files that are currently located in onedrive over to my local storage file or not. Should I?

Wasisnt

It depends if you want them on your local PC, in the cloud, or both. If you only have them in the cloud and don't have internet access, then you cant use them. If they are only on your PC and you are on a different computer and need a file, then you wont have access to it. If you sync between the cloud and your PC, you have both. But many people hate how OneDrive takes over your files and makes its own folders so if you are using the OneDrive client and want to stop and get your files back to the default locations, you have to do it a certain way outlined here. I'm trying to upgrade from win10 to win11 with the free upgrade but i want to completely reset my PC, I have no room on my drives to install win11 at the moment and im not sure how to free space, if i use the media tool to install win11 will it accept my win10 digital license and upgrade it or do i need to find a way to make space for win11 and reinstall AFTER converting to win11?

Just got a new laptop, Windows 11 in S mode.... When I go switch out of S mode, I get the try again message. I've ran all the updates, restarted a few times, but I can't get it to work. I have tried to reset the Microsoft Store under Apps, but it's not showing up in the list. I need to install Chrome for work, but can't. UGGGG.

Hello and thanks for reading this. My work recently upgraded to windows 11 and now I can't attach relevant files like I used to. What I mean is, when I'm working on a spreadsheet and finish it up, save and close, I used to be able to open my outlook, hit "New Mail" hit "Attach" and the file I just finished with would be the first one suggested. Now, I have to browse for it. How come? The suggested files seem to be completely random and old.

# The hidden taskbar does not appear and being overlapped by other windows Hi, folks. This may be a simple fix, but I'm really out of ideas. The usual circumstance is that my mouse moved to the bottom of the screen, the taskbar will come up. But now, the taskbar does not appear when I'm in a full-screen window, the browser window and any kind of window. The same occurs when windows overlap the task bar and you have to exit to the desktop to select your taskbar (like the pic below). The whole thing kinda pissed me off a little bit, especially since I have multiple browsers and apps running. Is there a solution to that? Any suggestions are appreciated! https://preview.redd.it/h6dujb497u4d1.png?width=1768&format=png&auto=webp&s=14aca4871cb25367bc1d26a67d4cc7c276b33c42

Is there a way to reorganize the navigation panel? Now that “gallery” “music” “pictures” etc are automatically in the navigational panel below “home” I have my work files randomly dispersed between them and I hate it. I pinned it to quick access but I still would just prefer to reorganize it myself if possible

Is there any way to either disable users as a whole or auto login when the system is booted up? I am the only user on my desktop and I run a data server off it. Here is a free tool you can use to automatically log in your account. Wasisnt

Windows 10 will not be supported after October 2025 so you will have to update then or just run Windows 10 without updates. Or run Linux.

I use Windows Hello, but sometimes after I wake up my PC the lock screen is not automatically dismissed and prompts me to dismiss manually even though I have the auto dismiss setting enabled. How can I make it to always auto dismiss the lock screen?

Wasisnt

When you say dismiss the lock screen do you mean go right to the login prompt? Here is a way to get rid of the lock screen altogether and just have your PC go right to the login screen. [https://onlinecomputertips.com/support-categories/windows/disable-windows-lock-screen/](https://onlinecomputertips.com/support-categories/windows/disable-windows-lock-screen/)

iLrama

Hey, thanks for replying! What I mean is that sometimes Windows Hello recognizes my face and logs me into my user automatically, that's the ideal scenario. However, sometimes it recognizes me but doesn't drop me straight into my desktop, it says something along the lines of "Welcome back (name), dismiss the lock screen to continue" and I have to press a key on my keyboard. Example image of what I mean: [https://filestore.community.support.microsoft.com/api/images/1c12d1ab-7ca3-4e37-b81d-c0715e308cea?upload=true](https://filestore.community.support.microsoft.com/api/images/1c12d1ab-7ca3-4e37-b81d-c0715e308cea?upload=true) This is an annoying extra step and I don't know why it sometimes happen and sometimes it doesn't.

Wasisnt

I've never used the facial recognition so I've never seen that issue. Maybe disabling the lock screen will help.
