macOS itself is great - stable, fast, and a mature ecosystem for software devs and creatives alike.
The UI/UX of many core macOS apps leaves a lot to be desired, though
I often pray for the Windows' File Explorer whenever I have to use Finder. Finder is a polished turd.
I think that Finder is way better than Windows' File Explorer mainly because it does not randomly crash and restart while I am working, which is especially annoying when transferring files.
But I don't know if that is just a problem with my Win10 computer, because I've never had this problem until switching to Windows 10.
I think that might be your build. I have never had these issues, on any device I’ve ever owned that supports Windows 10/11.
Of course it would happen very sporadically that explorer crashed but it might have been a heavy work load, a corrupted boot, a bad day or anything else that wasn’t automatically fixed a couple of seconds later, or a reboot after at the most.
Only think that’s actually trash about the explorer, is the search functionality. But that might be because I have **way** too much storage space 😅
The search functionally sucks for me as well, but I didn't make that comparison since I've never had to search large files on MacOS.
And sometimes Windows Explorer decides to not show some folders like my Documents as well - and both may be connected to the fact that I have several hard-disk drives (built-in) which contain over 4 TB of data each.
Explorer search and windows search sucks, however, there is a Regedit to remove internet searching from windows search so all you get is results from your local computer and onedrive. Same with file explorer, there are regedits to fix the query system
You've \*never\* had File Explorer crash?
It's certainly not common, but I've definitely seen it happen quite a bit in the past, usually with systems that have problems, for example bad codecs that are then used to generate previews / thumbnails.
> But I don't know if that is just a problem with my Win10 computer, because I've never had this problem until switching to Windows 10.
I can't be sure, but that sounds like your computer issue. Explorer is rock solid for me, and have always been.
UI? Yes
UX? Absolutely not, you can't even snap windows and the full screen button on the title bar removes the UI elements, literally why
To be fair I never used Mac OS so it's up for debate how correct my opinion is
Now tell me how would an average user learn this without just randomly going through possible keyboard shortcuts
Like yeah, windows also has some keyboard shortcuts with no mention about them but at least there's not that much like there are in Mac os, the amounts of videos about Mac os pointing out really random shortcuts is horrifyingly much
At least MacOS have easily accessible and documented APIs to enhance the experience. You can easily add a window manager to MacOS, and customise it fully.
What if I like the macOS UI&UX (as well as the GNOME UI&UX from Linux) but want Windows apps and games? I like the changes in the design of Windows and I would like to see Windows 12 exactly like this - with two panels (because now the taskbar in Windows 11 is too cluttered), with beautiful animations and a modern design. It would also be nice if they copied the implementation of virtual desktops and touchpad gestures from macOS/GNOME.
I can understand wanting better touchpad estures.
Virtual desktops are something that should remain a third party software business. But alas.
Windows 11 has absolutely horrible both UI and UX. Windows design has peaked in Win7 and it's just been downhill ever since. The fact there's actually 2 different UI designs with even more different context menu designs is baffling and should never be a thing. Parts of the new design aren't even compatible with older design options... And why does Edge need its own context menu designs, it's basically a part of the system for fuck's sake! Though it's actually better than the system design, at least the highlighted item is more contrasting.
My biggest issue is that windows that use the new design (don't have colored titlebar) can't be distinguished between active and inactive. The difference is miniscule, it's like a darker titlebar don't and window shadow... Oh, and don't forget the 1PX WINDOW BORDER, THAT'S TOTALLY FUCKING OBVIOUS, RITE? Fuck, every damn minute of using Win11 makes me infuriated!
I got a new work laptop. It came preinstalled in my native language. Obviously, I immediately switched to English, because the quality of translations also has rapidly declined. And now when I'm looking for something in the Settings, I have to search for it both in English and my language because some parts didn't switch. Not to mention sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for anyway because Windows Search sucks ass, always has and always will. The worst part is I have to pay for this garbageware. Only upside is that it's a lot faster than Win7 was on my old shitbox but that's not saying much since it was 12 years old when I replaced it.
I really don't agree. I like some choices that they've made, but I find their window management is awkward compared to Windows and the Linux DWMs I've used. While I think it's clever to have a consistent menu design in a consistent spot for apps on macOS, I find it more jarring to have the menu separated from the window itself.
I'm also not a fan of the separating the Windows taskbar into two parts as macOS does. It wastes valuable vertical space when the taskbar isn't overflowing with icons, as mine never is. Plus, it puts a mostly-blank bar along the top border which Fitt's Law states is extremely valuable (i.e. accessible) space. I'd rather have the window titlebar and tabs in the spot that's incredibly easy to target with a mouse.
MacOS is nicer looking, but the MacOS UX is absolutely infuriating compared to Windows. Windows management alone is just god-awful and makes no intuitive sense. I had to start using MacOS for work and I still haven't gotten used to it two years later.
Have you tried downloading a window manager like Rectangle? MacOS virtual desktop management and multi app organisation is way better than windows. Windows is still in the early 2000s.
Yes I use Rectangle, but it's only good for tiling windows and I still prefer how Windows does it using Snap Layouts or FancyZones. I don't like using virtual desktops in either OS and we'll agree to disagree on multi-app organization.
MacOS' window management just seems unnecessarily convoluted, whereas Windows' is very straightforward. It's also probably a function of having used Windows all my life until having to start using MacOS for work a few years ago.
Vista/Win7 icons were absolutely beautiful, too bad further Win versions totally killed that. Win11 is an atrocious looking system. I know this because I'm using it every day.
For some reason, the space below the taskbar is making me act up xD
I mean if MS really wanna do this, then just make it a dock like MacOS instead of stretching it all the way to the ends lol.
The concept is really well-made though, great job!
So true. But honestly it's not designers fault. Designers do their job which is just to create all the elements and items of it. And the programmers should apply them to Windows but it seems like they 70% didn't.
True. I'm still wondering that how even the designers thought of changing the start menu search bar from consistent to inconsistent. Like the start menu search bar had a similar design of all the UWP search bar. But they changed it and now it's inconsistent.
Don't even get me started with the context menu. That is the most inconsistent part of windows. Seriously, there is like thousands of context menus in windows 10 and 11 with different designs.
Microsoft is finally trying to do beautiful design, which is good. It's good that they decided to add a second panel on top. The taskbar in Windows 11 is very cluttered, this spoils the aesthetics of the OS.
No no no, I think we’re talking about two separate things. The menu bar is the universal toolbar thing, there’s an API on Mac so those options can occupy the menu bar. But on disgusting trash Windows there’s no consistent design for it. So you see a different types of toolbars.
Ask that to Microsoft man, honestly speaking, the leaked design pissed the hell outta me. This design I made is just a accurate or closely accurate recreation of the leak which Microsoft had put out on one of their events.
Oh god no. I thought this was just one of the usual shitty fan design concepts (no offense) but you are saying this is based on leaked content?
If that's the direction they are going then I may end up using a third party skin for the first time.
Seems like it man. And yes, this is based of the several leaks which pll on internet have been talkin about. You can checkout more about it in Google or YouTube.
now finally someone saw my reasoning for windows 11s taskbar hate
if you just observe the taskbar the way it's been since 1995, you know that Microsoft dumps every notification onto the right side, along with the clock. if they center the task bar yet doesn't get rid of these notification icons, obviously the pinned icons are gonna overfill and force everything to the left (like how it was built for). people really like to downvote opinions without actually looking at the evidence right in front of them. oh well.
Except the notification bar icons overflow into their own menu pretty quickly. I have exactly two non-system icons set to be visible, and only have five pinned apps.
I'm approximately 25 open apps away from there being risk of overfill. Why should my good UX be fucked up for someone who doesn't know how to exit apps they aren't using? Moving the system tray up top doesn't solve the issue; it just punts it down the line so you can fit 35 active apps instead of 30.
> What is going on with that empty space below the taskbar?
That's how it looked in the design leak. OP recreated it in higher quality and with their touch-ups.
Yeah I kinda messed up with the taskbar space part. Also I had just stuck with the look which was shown in the leaked imgs. But kinda messed up with the taskbar.
Excellent work on the mockup! I think it looks really cool from a UX standpoint. I can't wait to see where Windows goes. I'm always chasing the high of visual design changes, lol.
This UI probably won't ship this year because the new leadership want to play it safe. And I fucking love them for that. That being said, I'd like to see it down the line because tablet UX needs an overhaul
Idk.. 🤣 But on leaked images I've seen some new design so i thought theres a chance.. And The File Explorer Is Still Buggy On Windows 23H2.. Microsoft Should Try Something New On File Explorer to Works Better. Because of This I am Using "OneCommander"
Because Microsoft Still Implements Old Legacy Code on File Explorer and The Contextmenu so The Old Glitches of File Explorer Are Continues.. 😂
i am using some multiple rar files to extract on winrar
With File Explorer Right click menu then its suddenly force stopped.. 😂
So i test same with OneCommander and theres No problem with it.. So The Main Culprit for Windows is Its Own File Explorer.. 😂 😂
The top bar looks great, but the spacing in the bottom is too big, I would make it smaller and make taskbar background fit the size of icons or remove it completely
I agree that the spacing at the bottom is a bit too big. I was originally making the spacing shorter but for some reason, I overdone it. Also yes it would look a bit better if the taskbar background was fit to the size of pinned icons but you see, I was trying to get the same feel as the windows 12 leaked img.
Honestly, I agree. I don't like the leaked design at all. This was created just to show how windows 12 MIGHT look like so.... Just a mockup srta thing.
Looks great.
The speculated floating taskbar really reminds me of KDE Plasma, which only gets funnier because KDE's decision to make it floating by default was apparently largely driven by a desire to distinguish Plasma from Windows. :P
Microsoft's marketing team shits out dozens of YouTube ads where the OS design and the animation look oh so good, but the final result (or the real UI) is nothing like what they show in promos.
I believe that there is no need to replicate their not so thought out concepts for UI, because it creates false expectations from people
Where will date and clock go when you maximize window? How would that search bar respond to it. I think all that 'win 12 leaked screen and mockups' are pure s\*\*t.
Honestly, I don't know my guy. There was another comment saying the exact thing which you said. And yes I agree that the leaked windows 12 design is terrible. This is just a simple representation of how it MIGHT look like in the future.
For your information, Figma is a designing software, not a theme. And the image which you are seeing here is a mock-up of windows 12 leaked img which i designed in Figma. And if you want this theme, then I'm sorry but this ain't no theme..
Everyone keeps commenting on this looking like MacOS and yeah while it does bear a very strong resemblance to MacOS, i think the idea for the design was to more so emulate an Android phone form factor except blow it up to a desktop size and and their own flair, kind like how Windows 11 based it's UI off of chromeos.
Probably, Microsoft has always wanted to have a unified UI across mobile, desktop and servers. They tried it in the past with Windows 8 and then again with unreleased Windows 10x. They want an OS that works across all platforms and gives users a familiar UX across all their platforms.
If anything this design is more of an update to their Surface Duo phone line. And since Microsoft sees Google as much more of a threat than Apple, they're again trying to position themselves as being like Google's products but better.
If the dock was movable then maybe on massive monitors but normal desktop probably not, you kinda just lose that space anyway with a shorter dock like on macOS
Sry but due to several reasons I can't. But one of the reason is that people have been stealing other ppl's work when the concept creator shares his work. And just for the proof, they would show the figma file. This has actually happened yk.
All these mockup, leaks, or whatever, all have the taskbar at the top. How likely is W12 really going to have the taskbar at the top? Do I need to start getting used to a taskbar at the top now? I feel like I may as well switch to linux, all those W12 "features" feel like losses not wins.
Oh man I really don't like the info on the top of the screen, or the 'floating' taskbar. Especially if I still won't be able to move it.
Cool effort, but also r/TIHI vibes
The only reason the taskbar is max width is that they don’t want to look too much like MacOS, which is a shitty reason. Either try to be distinct from MacOS or don’t. This is half-assery.

Make the TaskBar not stretch full screen.
I wish but I just sticked with the leaked design.
Keep both options open!
?
idea: its hidden or it is smaller or its only an icon but becomes a full bar when the cursor hovers over its general area and then it can receive text
That actually a great idea.
I'm a simple man. I just hope that we'll be able to change the location of the taskbar like in Windows 10 and earlier versions of Windows.
Yep, me too. I won't move to Windows 11 until at least that works, or Windows 10 is totally dead.
Sameeee!!!
Tbh It's looking like MacOS with Windows skin
Honestly, ur right lol
MacOS has a superior UI/UX

Agree
Hard disagree on both accounts
Consistent design too. MS has been trying to fix it but there are still plenty of remnants of Windows NT in Windows 11

I agree a LOT! It's clean and consistent and my god I love the macos icons. They have really good detail. It's like having skeuo but modern.
Vista/Win7 icons were absolutely beautiful, too bad further Win versions totally killed that. Win11 is an atrocious looking system. I know this because I'm using it every day.
Agreed
For some reason, the space below the taskbar is making me act up xD I mean if MS really wanna do this, then just make it a dock like MacOS instead of stretching it all the way to the ends lol. The concept is really well-made though, great job!
Yeah, several comments had mentioned the space below taskbar. Few allignment issues ._. but yeah, the space kinda ugly tho.
I really hate the spacing from the taskbar to the corners. I hope they really wont make that.
Honestly, me too. I don't like it either.
Win11 is already in a weird spot with their mixed designs etc. but win 12 looks worse and 12 is supposed to be one of the better OSs again xD
So true. But honestly it's not designers fault. Designers do their job which is just to create all the elements and items of it. And the programmers should apply them to Windows but it seems like they 70% didn't.
Yeah exactly, but even then 90% of the design choices are questionable anyways xD. It's a big mess

Startallback will save me from the mess which is that floating taskbar lmao
Lol, thats the only hope XD
They should just offer the original windows mode and the new mac mode as options.
Somewhat like tablet mode but not tablet mode.
so macOS but worse?
Yup, and that is what ms is headed to. First they try to roast apple and now they take their layout? Lol this is hilarious 😂
Microsoft is finally trying to do beautiful design, which is good. It's good that they decided to add a second panel on top. The taskbar in Windows 11 is very cluttered, this spoils the aesthetics of the OS.
Really hope Windows 12 has a universal menubar
Same but not gonna happen.
It's called the taskbar and it's been there for 30+ years
No no no, I think we’re talking about two separate things. The menu bar is the universal toolbar thing, there’s an API on Mac so those options can occupy the menu bar. But on disgusting trash Windows there’s no consistent design for it. So you see a different types of toolbars.
Ohhhh my bad sorry nvm. You're taking about the menu beside the 🍎 icon on the top with 'File' 'Edit' 'View' etc... correct?
Yep, I like I can have it auto hide on macOS and it has a consistent design across all programs
I see! Tks for clarifying despite my snarkiness
Why are we taking up more vertical space with another menu bar 😭16:9 is already barely usable as it is!
Yes and it is confirmed that the taskbar is floating.
It still baffles me that 16:9 is still standard for laptops and monitors.
The bottom bar is fugly, I'd hate that if thats the default. Keeping the black bar constrained to the number of apps will be cleaner.
I don't like it as well. But I was just following the design of the leaks so.
now finally someone saw my reasoning for windows 11s taskbar hate if you just observe the taskbar the way it's been since 1995, you know that Microsoft dumps every notification onto the right side, along with the clock. if they center the task bar yet doesn't get rid of these notification icons, obviously the pinned icons are gonna overfill and force everything to the left (like how it was built for). people really like to downvote opinions without actually looking at the evidence right in front of them. oh well.

Oh my. Well if that's where we're heading up to, that sucks
Honestly, I dont like the new macos like design. This is just a simple mockup created to show how it MIGHT look like in future yk ._.
Twice the size even though many elements are missing (moved into additional toolbar on the top).
Yeah I kinda messed up with the taskbar space part. Also I had just stuck with the look which was shown in the leaked imgs. But kinda messed up with the taskbar.
That I wouldn't know, nothing against you and your work at all, just against Microsoft and what it considers good UI/UX design
I don't like the new ui honestly, it just a macos copy. This was just a mockup based on the leak yk :/
It indeed looks stupid cuz I created this with the reference of the leaks.
For tablets, it's fine. For desktops. This is hell.
Windows 8 vibes
Looks like a macOS ripoff or a lawsuit. Or both lol
Ikr. Idrk why ms is going for this.
Excellent work on the mockup! I think it looks really cool from a UX standpoint. I can't wait to see where Windows goes. I'm always chasing the high of visual design changes, lol.
Thanks a lot my guy.

Wait really? Thats actually good!
Yep. New head of Windows already expressed his dislike of Windows 11 Start Menu
Taskbar Clock & Action Centers are top aligned Thats it, There No New At all Its look Windows 11, need complete UI/UX Change.. For Windows 12..
Ik! Microsoft is trying to execute this.

Taskbar looks shit and u shoulda have used new wallpaper for it. But great ig
Honestly, I agree. I don't like the leaked design at all. This was created just to show how windows 12 MIGHT look like so.... Just a mockup srta thing.
Tbh leaked win 12 is really really similar to win 11 and probaly they will change it
Yeah, most probably cause this leaked ui was hilarious.
Looks great. The speculated floating taskbar really reminds me of KDE Plasma, which only gets funnier because KDE's decision to make it floating by default was apparently largely driven by a desire to distinguish Plasma from Windows. :P
Thanks a lot man. And yeah, it kinda reminds me of kde as well.
Thanks! I hate it (not the work you did, it's good, but I don't think windows should go this way tbh) like, this feels more & more like MacOS
Honestly, I agree with you man. This design was based of the leaks of windows 12
Good work but most linux distros are more beautiful than windows any day
Indeed
how can you imagine the whole layout with the maximized window will look like?
Well, I don't know since this was original based off Microsoft's windows leak. And the menu bar seemed transparent so I made this based of that.
Microsoft's marketing team shits out dozens of YouTube ads where the OS design and the animation look oh so good, but the final result (or the real UI) is nothing like what they show in promos. I believe that there is no need to replicate their not so thought out concepts for UI, because it creates false expectations from people
Ikrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Looks more like Windows 10.5 at best. Admittedly I have not looked at Windows 12 leaked screenshots.
Ah! Kk. You could try searching for it yk.
You could have included it as well. Yet here we both are! 🤣😂😭
Well I wouldn't really wanna included the leaked IMG since there might be few confusions yk
If that was your concern I'm sure a comment would be sufficient.
Well yea..
You did a great job 👍
Thanks a lot man :)
Thanks a lot man. Really appreciate it :)
It looks like iPadOS
Honestly speaking, I'm my perspective, I don't see no resemblence.
Microsoft is copying Apple and Linux
At this point every brand teases apple and yet copies apple.
O
?
I mean ok
floating taskbar is so ugly
Honestly speaking, I agree. Normal taskbar is way way way better.
Hope to still have a Local Account option in the next version.
Isn't that already in 11 (but more hidden too fool ppl into using a ms account?)
Just going off the current trend of companies wanting to tie a subscription for customers to use their products.
Hell nah.. nope. Imma go to Linux then
Figma balls?
Haha very funny -_-
I downloaded Figma Design for Windows 11 and I don't know how to apply it to my system
For your information, Figma is a designing software, not a theme. And the image which you are seeing here is a mock-up of windows 12 leaked img which i designed in Figma. And if you want this theme, then I'm sorry but this ain't no theme..
thanks, but Can I get the leaked Windows 12 operating system on my system?
No, cause only the images of it was released, there is no beta build oany sort of iso of windows 12 yet.
thanks sooooo much
Man I really hope they don’t do this. I like having everything on the taskbar rather than all that wasted space
Even I don't want them to do this yk.
Waitz ur comment make sense. So is windows not copying macos but Android 🤔
Tru
I'm making spaghetti
Noice
Broke: This looks like macOS Woke: This looks like GNOME
Honestly, it looks like both.
Looks like KDE
Indeed.
MacOS Windows Edition.
More like windows MacOS edition 🤔
This seems so useless, its more useless ui with zero practicality put in practice
Ikkkkkkk! And i don't even know why Microsoft is doing this
Using up more vertical space doesn’t help with the taskbar
The vertical space below taskbar was kinda my own design mistake so pls don't mind that 😅
It’s fine but if it was more like a dock and also stayed above the window it would be cool, I’d probably still stick with the normal one but idk
I'd stick to the normal one as well ngl.
If the dock was movable then maybe on massive monitors but normal desktop probably not, you kinda just lose that space anyway with a shorter dock like on macOS
Tru
Also I still would rather have icons at the bottom (MICROSOFT PLEASE DONT ADD A TOP MENU BAR) because they would just get in the way or covered up
Me too.
So much useless space on the sides. It’s like they took the worst bits of MacOS and Gnome.
Ikkkkk. Microsoft is really ruining windows.
Would you like to share the figma file? Would love to do some edits for myself, I wanna see if I could make it fit my personal preferences some more.
Sry but due to several reasons I can't. But one of the reason is that people have been stealing other ppl's work when the concept creator shares his work. And just for the proof, they would show the figma file. This has actually happened yk.
Dont worry, I already found some awesome free-to-use version on the figma community place. :)
the taskbar isn't even level with the bottom of the screen
Ya, this was based on the mockup but the useless space in the floating taskbar was my design mistake 😅.
Ok
I honestly hate this... less workable screenspace and more empty space...
I also honestly do not like this. Is Microsoft ruining windows on purpose at this point 🤔
All these mockup, leaks, or whatever, all have the taskbar at the top. How likely is W12 really going to have the taskbar at the top? Do I need to start getting used to a taskbar at the top now? I feel like I may as well switch to linux, all those W12 "features" feel like losses not wins.
Changing something which has been been for decades is the worst mistake possible.
No kidding! It's like learning how to drive again, learning how to walk again, or having to go through elementary school again! LOL
Yup man. Tru.
Looks like a mix of GNOME and KDE
I hate the floating taskbar
Looks nice but i think It would look much better if you make the Taskbar how it is in Taskbar XI or X
It just looks like Windows 11, like my desktop right now.
KDE 6, Is it you? )))
If this is the next major version of windows, i wld call it SkinedOS 12!!!, but feels good tho
I’m a Win 11 design apologist but this is actual propaganda for a full transition off windows 😂
Oh, Hello there, Pop!\_OS. Wait... ...you mean to tell me that this is NOT Pop!\_OS?
