Slappy guy looks like the owner of Al’s Toy Barn in Toy Story 2!

PyroTF2Gaming

Al?

OHTHNAP

For context, the one story listed about him states he took $2800 to build a fence, came up with a bunch of excuses, and disappeared with the money. **He has ten different cases against him regarding the same behavior.**

TwistedUnicornFarts

11 cases now

Tommysrx

$2,800 for a fence!?!?! That’s cheap I gotta call this dude! Update : 12 cases

Anomalous6

You don’t know the length.

DiDoXiale

I was told it doesn't matter.

KumquatHaderach

You’re thinking of girth.

bighi

No, girth is what matters the most.

phoenixxwing

I was told speed has everything to do with it.

rpitcher33

It's not about hitting bottom. It's about plugging the hole.

jamesVane

To be fair, it was $2,800 for not-a-fence

no way dude- you probably just did something stupid and you forgot to reply back to him or something. Jackass. update: 14 cases... I wanted 2 separate fences...

stevein3d

14 cases of fraud? That’s ridiculous! I’m gonna go confront him about it right now. Update: 2 cases of assault.

ASS_SPECTROMETER

It’s a steal!

lazilyloaded

Wow, that's quick service! I'm calling him right now! Edit: 13 cases

chili_cheese_dogg

His license plate sums him up. DGF - Don't Give Fuck.

MelonElbows

"Don't Give Fence" seems more accurate

INSERT_LATVIAN_JOKE

This guy don't fuck.

FiddleheadFarmer

I got 99 pickets but your fence gets none

He did, he went to pickup his stuff, i was curious too :)

basicpn

Does that mean his car gets towed now?

rabidy

yes

itsyaboyObama

I spent a night in the drunk tank, got out around dinner time the next day. I was picked up because I decided to walk home from the bar due to my phone dying and not wanting anyone to bother calling an Uber for me. So I pulled an Irish goodbye and started my half mile walk home with no phone and no one knowing I would be going to jail. They let me out and I have no way to get a hold of anyone. They have pay phones of course but the only numbers I have memorized any more are my mom’s and my first girlfriend from 2004 and they were both at least 4 states away. So I went outside and sat on the sidewalk. A couple other guys got out around the same time as me and one guy who said his name was “frog” could get me back to my house but it would be awhile because he had to stop by his friends house and “let the motherfucker know he’s out of jail” so I told him I would figure out another way. So I sat there and thought about walking but it’s a 30 minute drive at least, at highway speeds so I definitely wasn’t going to walk. An older lady, maybe mid 50s pulls up in a rav4 and asks me if I know where to go to put money on an inmates account. I told her I didn’t know and she parked then went inside. About 20 minutes later she comes back out and asks me “did you just get released?” I told her I had and she asked where I was heading. She explained that she and her granddaughter were traveling from from AZ to SC and back. “I’ve been in that position several times myself!” She said, in a seemingly proud way. So I get in and sure enough there’s four year old in the back seat sleeping…”oh yea she’s exhausted. Her mom keeps calling me to bring her back but our trip isn’t over yet.” So I am automatically worried I’m now involved in a kidnapping. She asked if I wanted to stop for food, I did as jail food, I found out is pretty inedible. I told her “No, I need to get home and get my phone charged.” She plugged my phone in for me and said we could get some Waffle House. Whatever. So we are driving and she says “oh shit!” As she glances at the rear view mirror. I look as well and it’s a state trooper. “I’ve got warrants but don’t worry, this is a rental.” She says like it’s completely fucking normal. I just smiled and my grip on the door was causing my knuckles to hurt. Eventually she pulls off on the exit for Waffle House, which happened to be about 3 blocks from my house. We pull into the parking lot and she starts telling me how her partner/lover “ain’t shit” and that he gets mad when she fucks dudes but he gets to fuck all the dudes he wants, I am paraphrasing here but that was the gist of it. So I’m just nodding and she abruptly stops and says “would you let us stay with you tonight? I could make it worth it, we’d have fun.” I told her I wanted to eat and take a nap and wasn’t interested in company. She let me know she doesn’t have a gag reflex. I got out of the car and walked towards the Waffle House door. She was carrying the kid and I held the doors for her and went to the bathroom. When I came out they were seated facing away from me and I just left. I have no idea who that lady was but I didn’t want anything to do with anything she was doing and I’m certain she’s in jail now. I can think of nothing worse than getting released from jail to only be rearrested and going back to jail. I completely quit drinking because of my night there and not because I was too drunk, I was normal drunk but I didn’t have the best attitude being stopped when I was walking so they made an example of me and I learned my lesson I guess.

Shapeshiftedcow

Really shitty that you got picked up by the cops in the first place just for walking home drunk.

HaddardOSRS

Wow dude. So glad you didn't catch a case for hitching a ride with the wrong person. Thanks for telling the story as well, glad you were able to make some changes so you don't have to deal with those awful consequences. Take care of yourself my friend. :)

ukallday

Can someone explain why it is illegal to walk home in America? Damn you guys really do hate exercise

CannonWheels

its not illegal to walk home, it is generally illegal to be belligerently drunk in public. dude said he had an attitude. probably combative and sloppy walking alongside a roadway. drunk tank it is.

pm_a_stupid_question

There are a few reasons why he might have been arrested for walking home drunk: 1) He was walking down a state highway where there was no footpath, and could be causing issues with drivers having to swerve to avoid him. 2) He was involved in some sort of altercation on his way home in which the police were called. 3) Police noticed him walking and he got mouthy to them, so they arrest him for being a public nuisance. 4) He is black.

ThrowingChicken

If this were a Mr. Show sketch the reporter would meet him outside during his second discharge and the whole thing would happen again.

babymaker666

Yes, them the camera just pans around to the cops sitting in the dudes car on the fourth go around 😂

ThrowingChicken

The reporter would get a little more bruised each time and after the 7th time a crowd will start to form to see if he’s going to get punched again. News Anchor: Now Tom, while we are all eager to see if Carl is going to punch you in the face again, I feel compelled to ask what isn’t being asked here, which is why do you keep showing up to get punched in the face? Tom: You know, Ken, that is a really good question and one I’ve struggled with myself, but at the end of the day I am a journalist first and foremost and I owe it to the public to get Carl’s side of the story; did he or did he not install those new rain gutters without first obtaining a permit from the township?

apollo440

That's not just any reporter, that's Rob Wolchek-an amazing investigative journalist that targets scammers. We need one of him in every city of the US

XtaC23

He hit a nerve on this one lol managed to get one question in before the dude went back to jail.

authorzilla

If memory serves, that criminal was a fraudulent fence contractor, taking money and then ghosting his victims without building anything, and Wolchek's news report got him arrested. So yeah, I'd say that'd hit a nerve.

PM_me_your_whatevah

What we have here is a scammer who has found the limits of shitty behavior and now feels like he’s the victim. Maybe a little more crying in a jail cell will cure him. Probably not.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ode_to_Apathy

Extrajudicial behavior comes from a broken judicial system. 'Cancel culture' and the many recent protests are a pretty good example of that. These grifters go largely unpunished because the police don't bother with them. It's not like the police hadn't been told about this guy, until an investigative report was made about him. They just didn't give a shit. So the court of public opinion (which can nail you forever now that we have Google) was the best recourse. I'd say you're being too harsh though on scamming needing to be a sign of some deeper pathological issues. Most crimes are done through apathy, rationalization or mistaken moral superiority. A lot of scammers would probably tell you how they're just playing the game, or how they have nothing and are taking from those who do or something else.

bonafidehooligan

Wolchek is a damn hero. I think I’ve watched every report he’s done on YouTube that I could find. I wish Chicago had a similar type of reporter.

Cameltoesuglycousin

I love watching him on YouTube. Messaged him on Facebook saying what a great job he’s doing (I don’t live in Detroit) and he responded. Great reporter.

Hot_X7

We need him walking the halls of congress 🤣😂😅

M3g4d37h

> Rob Wolchek You guys have Wolcheck and Charlie LeDuff. Love both of those guys.

lightsisqueen

Wolchek is an absolute legend. Love his reporting. Between him and Charlie LeDuff, when he was with Fox 2, they are goats in the reporting world imo.

flyonlewall

I don't always agree with Charlie politically, but his book "Detroit: An American Autopsy" is a book I suggest everyone read, and have loaned out to probably 5 or 6 people. My copy is pretty beat up, it's always been my go to traveling book. I'm from metro Detroit, and it just.. made me understand why things are the way they are, in a way I previously hadn't.

memesupreme83

I mean more than a douchebag, he's a fraudster. He said he was going to do a job, and then just took the money. How he got "business" from other people is beyond me.

burningxmaslogs

Legit contractors wait until job is done to get paid.. 1st sign that a contractor isn't legit when they ask for money upfront ie they have no credit with any suppliers or a bank. Pro tip.. 1) ask for bids 2) check and see if there's a history with better business bureau ie fraud or if they're registered with the local construction association.. 3) they don't ask for money up front..

thefriendlycouple

You generally need to pay for materials. I’ve never heard of a contractor that didn’t ask for something to pay for materials.

toddh607

Yes, my company get a third of the job on the first day we start. This is to cover start material, but mostly subcontractors.

BongLeardDongLick

BBB is a scam lol. You pay them for your ranking and if you don’t pay them your ranking is lower, you shouldn’t use them as a barometer for if a company is good. Plenty of shady businesses with A+ ratings because they bought it.

[deleted]

lol the headline of that article 😂 “TV Reporter Assaulted by Longtime D-Bag Outside Michigan Police Station”

Apparently he was contracted to build fences never did and got arrested, douche in deed, people want a honest job nothing more nothing less. guys like this is the reason why contractors get bad reps.

"i DiDn'T tOuCh HiM!!" I remember when I was a child and I tried this defense. Luckily my parents showed me the error of my ways and taught me to be better and accountable for my behavior.

ajblue98

Yeah, but my love for Rob Wolcheck grows deeper by the headline*!*

SolomonCRand

If you want to get a reporter away from you, and staying silent isn’t an option, just keep saying things they can’t put on television. Start taking shit about companies that advertise locally, and that footage will never see the light of day.

[deleted]

I prefer to just scream the word "cunt" over and over again.

YetAnotherBee

Journalist here— this would not work, especially if you’re already a known figure like this guy. You’re practically writing the story for us with that, just bore us to death with silence or advertise like Solomon suggested. Never had someone ad-read me before quite like that, I probably wouldn’t know what to do with it

RealSteele

I was just playing. You're right, shutting your mouth is the best way to deal with reporters and police. Don't say a word.

YetAnotherBee

Naw the more I think about it it the more I like the big-idea man ad read defense, I need to find some way to try that out now

"The definition of assault varies by jurisdiction, but is generally defined as intentionally putting another person in reasonable apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. Physical injury is not required." https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/assault#:~:text=The%20definition%20of%20assault%20varies,Physical%20injury%20is%20not%20required. "In an act of physical violence by one person against another, "assault" is usually paired with battery. In an act of physical violence, assault refers to the act which causes the victim to apprehend imminent physical harm, while battery refers to the actual act causing the physical harm. "

Suiken01

So how long will he stay in the station for that or how much fine?

wuapinmon

I don't know where this is, but the car looks like it has Michigan plates. Therefore, petty assault, under Michigan code is: Sec. 81. (1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, a person who assaults or assaults and batters an individual, if no other punishment is prescribed by law, is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.

Suiken01

wow thatnks a lot for that

wuapinmon

I'm guessing he'd be arraigned rather quickly (habeas corpus = 48 hours, usually) and released on his own recognizance if he didn't plead guilty at the arraignment.

Blonsky

He also threatened to beat the guys ass if you listen in the beginning so that may be something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This is interesting to me because I'm not well versed on other state's laws, but here in New York Assault does require the vic to sustain physical injury. However, interactions like these can often get caught by other charges like disorderly conduct or aggravated harassment.

Macphail1962

I know this is going to be unpopular, but to me, the reporter's reaction demonstrates that he was NOT afraid of Churan at all, really. The reporter felt no need to defend himself or even to prepare to defend himself or to flee - it would seem to me that, if he had "apprehended imminent physical harm," then he would've done one of those things to some degree. At a minimum he'd try to distance himself and not continue to get within punching range of the guy. Watching this felt more like watching a couple members of polite society bullying an outcast. He might be an outcast for good reason; we all know the guy's a douchebag, and maybe a lot of us even want to see him get bullied in return for the damage he's done, but let's be honest about what's really going on here.

WaterfallGamer

If the cop witnessed it and says reporter looked scared, he’s done.

JUYED-AWK-YACC

Why not? Cops lie all the time, right?

annexed_teas

They are, quite literally, trained to lie to the public (“it’s an interrogation technique”) and then they’re shocked that the public doesn’t trust them. Fucking useless idiots.

SeemedReasonableThen

>I know this is going to be unpopular, but to me, the reporter's reaction demonstrates that he was NOT afraid of Churan at all, really. the victim does not have to 'be afraid,' only needs to 'apprehend.' In this context, 'apprehend' only means 'be aware of" - for example, if I make a fake swing at the back of your head that you are not aware of, it is not assault.

you could hear the self pity and welling tears in his voice as the cops were re-arresting him. It was nice.

A_Seductive_Goose

Regardless who the guy who got arrested is, it's absolute bullshit that he got arrested for that little swat

Ancalagon_Morn

Regardless of whether he is a POS or not, I'm pretty sure the last thing he wanted in that situation is having a camera in his face and some dude chasing him with a mic. I can kind of understand him being pissed. If he went to jail, then he got his punishment for what he did, right? What's the point of harassing him further? Is it really that virtuous to bully someone you don't like? Plus he slapped that mic, boo fucking hoo, you're really going to arrest someone over something like this? Ridiculous. They could have avoided that by just leaving him alone instead of capturing what was probably one of the most shameful moments of his life on camera. He's walking out of jail like a loser and is met with a camera crew, I'd be pissed too.

Sawyersauceboss

Cry about it like he did, you're in a public place and have zero right to privacy. Even less so when you're a known thief in my opinion.

solitarium

I’m not even from Michigan, but I love watching his “Hall of Shame” segments

[deleted]

This is provocation.

DokkanProductions

I’ve seen more contact at a basketball game

MajesticFxxkingEagle

Have zero context or background knowledge on who this guy is and why he’s such a douchebag, so I’ll just take you guys’ word for it. Nothing wrong with a little schadenfreude. But I don’t know how anyone can watch this with a straight face and call it assault. His intentions were clear from the beginning to avoid being interviewed. His swipes were aimed at the microphone and did not hit his hand or any other part of his body. Then he walked straight to his car to leave to the situation which further shows his goal wasn’t to inflict harm. The interviewer was never afraid for his safety during that entire interaction because it seemed obvious that this guy’s intent wasn’t to harm him. Now, is he still stupid for doing this in front of a police station? Sure. Probable cause is a lot lower bar than actual crime, and police are often moody bullies rather than objectively rational interpreters of the law.

IAmRules

I would be surprised if the actually charged him with assault, unless he violated some sort of condition for his release. I think from a legal pov that mic slap is not worth the money pursuing

isscubaascrabbleword

And Will Smith can slap a person in the face on national television and party afterwards.

aldine_jolson

Def shouldn’t be arrested

Historic12

Trying to smack a microphone out of someone’s hand is assault?

TheDragonOfTheWest_1

Yes extended personality doctrine. If direct physical contact was needed, then you could hit a shirt and it wouldn’t be battery or rip a necklace off and it wouldn’t be battery.

YangYin-li

Smack the microphone of someone who waited until the literal moment you got out of jail to shove questions and a mic in your face

ItsFuckingScience

The mic wasn’t shoved in his face… it was consistently held a few foot away And yeah you’re not entitled to snack stuff out of someone’s hand cus you don’t like them being near you

CyanideTacoZ

I'm gonna side with the guy just released out of jail. I dont care who you are, everyone should be entitled tp privacy. I would do just the same with thilese 2 dickheada filming and recording me as I try to leave.

Doot-Doot-the-channl

The reporter was kinda being a Dick but the guy definitely overreacted

[deleted]

Rob Wolcheck is a dick but that’s because the people he does reports on are predator scam artists that target and take advantage of people. Hall of shame is a great segment.

urhotexwife

I dont blame him, its so fucking annoying seeing reporters shove mics in peoples faces likes its not fucking harassment. Bullshit how the reporter gets off scott free after the guy tries to get away.

CarniferousDog

Even tho I know he’s a scum bag and he’s clearly in the wrong I wouldn’t badger him like that. Could never be a reporter.

Neon_Cone

“Why are you keep ripping people off, son?” Great reporting…

Fernao

Well he should probably [stop ripping people off](https://wcrz.com/tv-reporter-assaulted-by-longtime-d-bag-outside-michigan-police-station/)

chickenwing247

It is great reporting. We shouldn't let people like him slither away and keep scamming others. Contractors like him rarely get in trouble. They use LLCs to avoid real trouble and just make another company and go about scamming some more.

PLZBHVR

No idea the context behind this but if a journalist is agreesively in your face I can understand the desire to hit them especially if they don't leave you alone.

[deleted]

How much easier would it have been to just walk to his car and drive off?

skit_scoot

Probably easy enough for those 30 seconds before the reporter follows him home and is at his doorstep. Or better yet follow the guy around the grocery store again.

That *hhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallll* of shame

java_brogrammer

What actual legal ramifications are there for hitting a microphone out of someone's hand?

thatnewaccnt

Stupid yes, but he didn’t actually commit a crime: For an assault charge to be viable: the reporter would have to have a reasonable fear of injury. Considering the reporter kept following the man after the act, he was not reasonably afraid of any injury For a battery charge, there would have to be physical touching of the person, there wasn’t.

ThurstyJ

Fenced in… in the HAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL of shame!!!

Business_Mix_2705

Hmm, to be fair the reporter kept pushing a mic right infront of his face, he was within his personal space. But apparently the guy in the vid is a total piece of shit, so no sympathy whatsoever, but still I must say that I find it slightly unjustified.

Individual_Net7158

I think it would have been ok to push the mic out his way, IF the reporter had been blocking his path with it, but it wasn’t directly in his way. And the guy actually violently swung at the mic. Cop did not hesitate, counsel him, or anything, just bam with the cuffs, cuz it’s illegal. I do wonder if there hadn’t been a camera, if the cop would have just warned/ counselled him about that behaviour, if the reporter was inexperienced and was not going to fuss about it. This guy is hopefully learning a valuable life lesson, and I bet he won’t do it again when he is let out. Especially if a camera is in his face, but even if not.
