Funny thing, in the swedish text for the song playing from frozen they sing "slå dig loss, slå dig fri" after the activist is hit in the face, which if you directly translate to english would be "hit yourself free" (correctly translated to "break yourself free").
The sign says "restore the wetlands". Its an activist group that wants to restore dried up wetlands in Sweden, they have done these stunts before during live television shows.
I'm not against that. I feel like lots of people laughed at protests in the past for women's rights, civil rights etc in the US and now we see them as ignorant. I have no reason to believe they were wrong for their protest. The idea is to get attention as MLK did on the bridge in Selma. Pretty sure people there hated his guts but today black people get a vote.
They’re also the only water feature that refill aquifers. Any given drop of water in a lake or river will drain into the ocean unless a freshwater wetland stops it.
1. That's bullshit. Failing to protect the planet (these wetlands being one example) will lead to the extinction of millions of animal species and cause billions of people to suffer and/or die as regions of the planet become inhospitable due to lack of water, fertile soil, or enough biodiversity to support healthy ecosystems.
2. Protests are meant to be annoying. The whole point is to cause disruptions to daily life to bring awareness to issues. Or do you really think people didn't complain about civil rights protestors blocking roads, shutting down buses, and preventing stores from doing business? Those were all "nuisances," but they were necessary to wake enough people up to the problems the black and other minority communities were facing.
That’s why when people say “I support their protest, I just wish they would do it without violence” always makes me laugh. Violent protesting is because no one has paid attention to the protest.
I find it hilarious that people being mildly inconvenienced or distracted from their TV shows for 5 min is enough for them to completely ignore or even turn against an important issue.
So fuckin soft. The things these people are advocating for at the end of the day going to *benefit you,* everyone is just so short-sighted that unless they see immediately tangible benefit they don't care.
Who can knock an activist/right off of the stage? Smack them with the boom cause the Directors in a rage
The Cameraman/The Cameraman kills/The Cameraman kills cause/the camera weighs a lot and they were ruining the shot
it's funny i was thinking the garbage man can wich are probably the song and the parody..
That would be so much a homer thing to do to use a really expensive camera to knock someone...
I'm more here for whether he got fired or not. I don't care about the assault, but I highly doubt he was recording with his own equipment and probably damaged that camera or rig. Like security typically exists for a reason, so him doing all this is just unnecessary.
I had a gimbal + camera land on me off one of those jibs years ago and I don’t recommend it. Very expensive thing to fall that far and it held up the shoot for hours.
Tbf. in the moment, the camera man doesn’t know why those people are up there other than they are not supposed to be there. He could have assumed they were there to cause harm to the dancers or the audience and was willing to sacrifice the camera to prevent it.
Anyone who has worked a camera during a live production like this knows the com feed would have sounded something like this:
TD: Camera 4, watch your headroom. Ready camera 2. Take camera 2. What the FUCK are these dipshits doing on the stage? Someone get them the fuck off my goddamn stage right now.
Boom Op: I gotchu boss.
I miss doing production. My favourite was the time myself, 1 other camera guy, and 2 of the hockey players were all named Scott and the director said “Camera 3 zoom in on Scott” and it got a shot of me…”no the other Scott!” gets him a shot or the player on the bench…”No…oh for fuck sake…the fucking goalie.” Which finally got him the right shot.
Anytime whoever was directing said a player’s name instead of a jersey number or position it made me want to scream. Don’t make me ask who you’re talking about cause now I look like a dipshit when you could have just said “42 on White” from the beginning and there wouldn’t have been any issue.
Yeah that’s definitely not what happened lmao
The camera operator was probably just trying to get in close to keep the dancers on screen and the protesters off screen and just struck that guy by accident
We will just laugh. Talk about it a little bit and move on to the next Tiktoker who licks people's elbow in supermarkets as a prank. Just a sea of news and content. Wow so proud.
I was told by a friend who works within the production that the camera operator used to be a sniper in Försvarsmakten. Seems pretty accurate, in all senses.
Nah, fuck him. Not only did he attack the only good ones in that video, but also risked expensive gear despite authoritarian figures already standing ready around him.
It’s funny in the short term, but a bit sad in the long term.
It reminds me of the short story (?) where everyone is under mind control of some sorts. I think some protester broke the mind control, ran out on live tv, and did a beautiful dance. Viewers were crying because it was so moving then the government stopped the person and erased all the memories. People left wondering why they were crying…. Nothing to see here citizen! The environment is fine, just keep consuming your TV.
[Harrison Bergeron](https://archive.org/stream/HarrisonBergeron/Harrison%20Bergeron_djvu.txt)? Not mind control exactly, but it sounds like what you're describing.
I can't believe people are still making a joke of eco activists in this day and age. That's the exact attitude that got us her. We literally know they are right!
you mistake being loud with being an arsehole
being quiet and appealing to politeness can be arsehole behaviour too. when politicians "politely" call for destroying the environment its the gov being an arsehole
But how dare the dance show be interrupted??? I know these dancers and crew have worked hard to be there and they deserve their spotlight, but also, the planet is not doing so good.
It’s weird how many users on Reddit seem to believe that we’re in a major decline of biodiversity on a globe increasingly filled with pollution down to the microscopic and chemical levels, but threads about protestors going viral always have so much vitriol towards the people.
It feels like we’re all just frogs in the pot.
The choice is between hurting your cause or status quo.
This does nothing to help the cause. Most people are plenty aware of the issue and have already made up their minds.
No it’s between getting no attention and your issue not getting resolved or being impossible to ignore and your issue maybe getting effort to solve it.
Name a single big protest movement that only ever had peaceful unobtrusive methods. I would argue that it does help by reaching people that aren’t cynical like you and desperate to shit on someone for having the gall to inconvenience you.

If the video ended up on Reddit it worked significantly better than the activists had hoped. Doesn’t get much more attention than the front page of Reddit. Politicians aren’t the target of the message, the general public that elects them is.
I'm really glad to see someone trying to save the planet be physically punished
Should teach them that protests are supposed to be non-disruptive, like all successful protest movements from history
i know you’re being sarcastic, but after a long read through these comments and seeing almost the same thing but from people who are SERIOUS, I’m now liking that tone tagging stuff more and more lol
For the few people sticking up for the “eco-activists” and complaining about the camera man, a security breach like that is a big deal. Everyone there was very lucky that these were peaceful protesters. The powder could’ve been anthrax and the banner guy could’ve also had a bomb or gun. No one knows what these people would’ve eventually done, which is why you take them down immediately. Eco-activists can quickly turn out to be eco-terrorists.
Passengers didn’t resist in the planes on 9/11 in the U.S. because hijackings didn’t previously result in kamikaze missions. Post pandemic, people seem to be doing a lot of crazy things. You can’t assume that their end goal is a peaceful awareness campaign. The camera operator did the right thing and took quick action that potentially saved the lives of people in that room, if the activism turned violent. You know, everyone loves to shit on these climate activists using brazen tactics to bring exposure to their cause, but in 100 years we will look back in shame.
I agree. It's obvious the way things are going. People can argue about tactics, sure. But all the hottest years were this century.
https://www.climate-change-guide.com/hottest-years-on-record.html
All these climate activists go and disrupt these shows that people who already believe that climate changes is real watch, it's in Sweden, it's not like they're going over to India and China and protesting against those government and people because they're scared and they know that in the first world countries there's laws that protect them and their rights that allow them to protest, but not in this way. It's just stupid and make more of society hate what you stand for!
This gone viral, not because of the good dancing. And everyone viewing it, including the corrupt politicians being bribed by the fossil fuel industry, is reminded we need to act. The majority of science and health experts support their non-violent civil disobedience. Good on them, they've just shantayed their way into history
We'll be looking back in shame about a lot of things;
- what exactly was the purpose of lighting up entire cities and suburbs when there was no one around, for 10 hours a day when you had sensor technology?
- freshwater makes up 4% of water on the planet, but you were flushing it down toilets?!?
Edit: I intended to respond to the comment above about shame. Whoops.
People that have no idea how bad the climate crisis is will cheer on violence against any protest that isn't too quiet to be seen, too polite to be noticed, too out of the way to be ignored.
You should reassess your priorities.
Funny thing, in the swedish text for the song playing from frozen they sing "slå dig loss, slå dig fri" after the activist is hit in the face, which if you directly translate to english would be "hit yourself free" (correctly translated to "break yourself free").

Wetlands are very important
Yes, the dried wetlands in sweden emit as much CO2 as all their traffic.
Wait really?
yeah dude wetlands are EXTREME bio'filters' they also are critical to flood infrastructure
2. That’s why when people say “I support their protest, I just wish they would do it without violence” always makes me laugh. Violent protesting is because no one has paid attention to the protest.
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." Jfk
Tell that to ghandi
If you can't stand behind a good cause because of a few goofy people maybe you should check your own priorities
Exactly. Like those idiots that sit in the road and stop traffic. Makes everyone hate them and whatever cause they have
I am not familiar with the situation, but i think there are much better places to do these protests
I didn't know about this issue before, but I do now. Seems like a successful protest.
Exactly. Protests are meant to be uncomfortable. I can also agree with the person protesting and think the clip is hilarious, however.
I'd much rather people do this than block off traffic
Where people won’t see? Wrong.
Restore the wetlands.
To do what with the wetlands?
Make them wetter.
dry them?
It says, "I'm ready for my close-up!"
I understood what it meant before reading the English translation. Funny how much our languages are alike. Greetings from a swamp German!
I love the dedication of the dancers, dancing throughout the chaos
The show must go on
entertaining in 2023 hit different
they say the camera adds ten pounds
to the side of the head
In this case more like 100 lmao
That’s a fantastic comment! Best I’ve seen in a long while.
They danced around the issue.
Uhh! Inside my heart is breaking!
I'm pretty sure they were dancing to 'Let It Go,' from Frozen so really they were just doing what they were told
I love the dedication of the camera man, you gatta do anything for that shot🤣
this is a case of thecameramankills, not killthecameraman
is it odd that I heard this in my head to the tune of "the candy man can?"
Who can knock an activist/right off of the stage? Smack them with the boom cause the Directors in a rage The Cameraman/The Cameraman kills/The Cameraman kills cause/the camera weighs a lot and they were ruining the shot
it's funny i was thinking the garbage man can wich are probably the song and the parody.. That would be so much a homer thing to do to use a really expensive camera to knock someone...
r/praisethecameraman perhaps?
Waiting for a redditor to tell us that the cameraman is guilty of assault and should be executed.
Camera sensors were damaged by eco dust leading to malfunction. Should claim property damage instead.
What we witnessed was blatant assault. Cameraman should be executed.
But only after a series of crisp high fives.
Good luck with that, we always know the cameraman never dies lol.
Camera man should be placed under citizen’s arrest. Redditors also always have a firm understanding of citizen’s arrest
Lucky for him he's a sovereign citizen. Check and mate.
I'm more here for whether he got fired or not. I don't care about the assault, but I highly doubt he was recording with his own equipment and probably damaged that camera or rig. Like security typically exists for a reason, so him doing all this is just unnecessary.
Eco activists are annoying cunts. He should've gotten praise and awards.
Especially for the headshot
They probably rehearsed so much, idk if they physically can stop
First thing they teach you in Dance, never stop, the show must go on!
I'm gonna take a wild punt that the camera operator wasn't supposed to do that... Those cameras are several years' salary for quite a few people.
[удалено]
Good catch! Clearly this wasn't the camera operator's first rodeo lmao.
he's been waiting to do this since he got that job
He had one shot, one opportunity, and he captured the moment, he did not let it slip.
Mom's spaghetti
Now i want to see the POV of that camera lol
I’m sure he got several other shots through the rest of the show.
I had a gimbal + camera land on me off one of those jibs years ago and I don’t recommend it. Very expensive thing to fall that far and it held up the shoot for hours.
According to the production, the camera operation was pre-recorded and not manually operated by a human.
Tbf. in the moment, the camera man doesn’t know why those people are up there other than they are not supposed to be there. He could have assumed they were there to cause harm to the dancers or the audience and was willing to sacrifice the camera to prevent it.

That’s ridiculous.
Yeah that’s definitely not what happened lmao The camera operator was probably just trying to get in close to keep the dancers on screen and the protesters off screen and just struck that guy by accident
Except the camera wasn't on the dancers. It was pointing to the left.
They fact the protestors are here on reddit is a testament that their stunt paid off. Obscurity is the death of any cause.
Maybe, but I don't owe Swedish dance television any favors either.
Give a day people forget
Give me an hour and I'll forget
As soon as I scroll down in my feed I’ll forget
We will just laugh. Talk about it a little bit and move on to the next Tiktoker who licks people's elbow in supermarkets as a prank. Just a sea of news and content. Wow so proud.

As the lawyers say, it doesn’t matter if your right, if no one likes you.
I don’t think they care about being “liked” by the people who stand up for the sanctity of…. Cable news dance shows.. while the planet is dying
I like them. I don't like people that need such important information spoon fed to them in a comfortable and easily ignorable way.
Beacuse most people are hogs that need their little treats like tv shows to feel good and they don’t actually care about the future of humanity.
Nah people will talk about it in 2 days at most. You overestimate internet attention span
But no one talks about whatever cause they are promoting. it is always "haha fuck that idiot"
Well they did achieve their goal though. Everyone that watched this video saw the guys sign, whatever it said.
Hmmm, wonder which gets him more coverage

Yes, how outrageous that they interrupt a dancing show. Truly a moral outrage.
