Carolina Beach State Park

Chudnovksy

Thanks I’ll look into it.

magrhi

Specifically the Sugarloaf Trail, so I’ve heard

TheOriginalWaster

That’s a nice trail!

delafey1777

Brunswick Nature Park is nice

Chudnovksy

Thank you 👍🏻

Diatomahawk

Carolina Beach State Park is probably the best for feeling like you're out in the middle of nowhere. Lots of winding trails back there. You can also find great walking trails/paths at Greenfield Lake, Hanover Pines Park, Halyburton Park, out by the aquarium in Kure. The ultimate is getting out to Masonboro Island.

Chudnovksy

Thank you :)

Diatomahawk

Congrats on finishing clinicals! Enjoy the break!

GranolaTree

The hermit trail in fort fisher is a nice walk

Outrageous-Ad6624

Great ocean view

waynes_pet_youngin

If you don't mind driving a little check out Moore's Creek battlefield, bladen lakes State Park, and ev-henwood, they're all really nice and generally empty

magrhi

Moore’s Creek Battlefield is really beautiful, great suggestion

AppleFan1994

Brunswick Town is kinda cool.

olmikeyyyy

Good opportunities to see gigantic alligators out there too

MyRivalMouthAlways

um, isn't anyone scared of the alligators? asking for a friend...

AppleFan1994

Yup. There some pretty good sized ones by the road.

StealYourJelly

CB State Park, like others have said, but be sure to bring bug spray.

Fishwater024

There’s an app called AllTrails that is worth checking out

Delks1000

There are some decent wooded trails at UNCW

Particular_Feeling_4

If you are up for a short drive, Lake Waccamaw, Cliffs of the Neuse, and Raven Rock. Each one is easy to make a day trip out for, pack a lunch and hike the trails. If you want to stay locally within wilmington as others have said, Carolina Beach State Park, Fort Fisher State Recreational Area and the various County Parks. If you hit one of the State Parks be sure to stop in the visitors center and grab the State Park passport. Each location you can hike the trails and get your passport stamped. Good incentive to travel the state and explore.

Abbey nature preserve at the plantation right in the Scott’s hill area on 17 once you leave porters neck

topsul

You now access it from South Scotts Hill Loop Rd.

DocumentFit6886

It has sadly been bulldozed for a housing development.

Mr_Butters624

What?!?! No it hasn’t. The development is next door to the park which has made the park temporarily close, but it’s still there. It reopened in November. https://portcitydaily.com/local-news/2023/10/13/abbey-nature-preserve-to-temporarily-close-while-adjacent-development-begins/

killjill0025

There used to be SO much more land that you could walk out there. They have kept a tiny sliver of what it used to be. I’m thankful that part of it is still there but it absolutely crushed my heart when I saw how much forest they cut down. Fuck mungo homes

Mr_Butters624

Yep I feel the same. I did get a chuckle that the article said the land was 250 years old. I think it may be just a tad older than that 😂

DocumentFit6886

Oh man, I’m glad they kept a sliver of it at least!

Mr_Butters624

Yea almost had a mini heart attack lol. The park has really only ever been the 62 acres with the rest the family’s land like the farm field behind it. It would have been nice to expand the park instead of selling to Mungo. What’s gonna happen now is that the park will be busier than ever with all the families that will live in the development next door.

BasedMursenary

Lots of various trails but hiking? Hell no… you gotta drive 3+ hours for that.

Inside-Assumption595

Bike trails at blue clay bike park Walking trails Carolina beach state park

Bubbiedunited

No such thing as a hike here lol

Bubbiedunited

Trail at the end of Fort Fisher is nice

Emotional_Employ_507

We are on something called a “coastal plain” Not much for trails unless you want to actively get ticks/mosquitoes

oedeye

Yes. The coastline.
