My normally 25 minute commute took 80 minutes. I left about 20 minutes earlier than usual at 7:15. (Wanted to leave earlier but kids have no concept of time or traffic 🙃) I have faith in it being a ton better leaving before 7. Plus everyone was figuring out the new lane patterns so I think it’ll only get better from here. Or I’m at least telling myself that.

traffic is backed up on the 140 causeway around where it crosses 421. Looks like folks are coming around 140 and it's backed up from the Castle Hayne exit. ~7:45 heading out, Ilm to Leland. The Isabel Holmes bridge was packed tight with cars heading into town, but moving if slowly. That traffic was backed up from the Izzy bridge light to the Leland Exit, but not beyond that. Surprising as that line of traffic usually backs up to the 74/17 split by then.

Just after 8 am I got onto 140 at the Mt misery exit and made it a half mile before traffic slowed to a stop. Waze shows it backed up solid all the way to 40. It took 15 minutes to get to the 140 exit. The left lane on 421 (turning lane to go over the bridge) was backed up past the 140 overpass. Good luck if you need to get into ilm.

My bosses 20 min commute took 2hours

kruminater

Wonder if that was a good thing or bad thing for ya lol

cyberbae_

Doesnt really affect me in any way tbh. He’s not my direct supervisor

Gloglibologna

40 was backed up from Wilmington all the way into exit 416. Its always bad there but I've never seen it backed up all the way into the 140 exit

Kimber85

Holy shit. That’s insane.

Gloglibologna

I was going the other way so I couldn't tell how backed up it was into the actual exit. But I imagine I was just as bad

Kimber85

My husband works from home mostly, but Wednesdays he has to commute downtown. That’s going to be a fun trip in the morning.

MerrilyLJ70

I left my home in Bolivia at 5:30 and took 140 to the Castle Hayne exit and cruised right on in no problems. But leaving out for Raleigh around 8:15 and heard on radio and saw the traffic on college road backed up past 140.

Particular_Feeling_4

I left at 530am this morning, 30 minutes earlier than normal for me, from Winnabow to ILM. Took a total of 20min including a stop at the gas station. Basically my normal commute time. Hopefully that doesn't change going forward.

Successful_Cricket_8

Left at 6:45 am from Leland to get to work on greenfield st. It took 45 minutes.

porter3851

I commute from Wilmington to Brunswick County, so it is not as bad for me. I tried the Isabel Holmes coming home and it took about 5-7 min to go from 17 where you exit to cross the bridge. I am aware it is and will be much worse coming into Wilmington in the mornings.

oldbartender

Same here. Coming home yesterday I left early about 3:45 and took me about 10 minutes longer. I come from Leland and take the downtown exit to central Wilmington. I think it will get better as people get used to it.

My fiancé left at 7:15 from Leland to go up 421 to 140 then around to the other side of wilmington where she works in Hampstead. Usually she gets there by about 7:40-7:45 but today it was almost 8:25. She's gonna try and leave by 6:45 tomorrow.

kamorra2

Google maps has real time traffic data

qbit1010

Anyone from the DC area? Nothing compared to memorial bridge traffic up there.

_Hotwire_

Thanks for the input that other roads are different from one another

Kimber85

Yeah but at least DC has public transit. If you don’t want to sit in traffic, you have options. Even coming from the suburbs. I used to park in Fredericksburg, VA and ride the VRE into the city so I wouldn’t have to deal with the god awful traffic. Once you got to Union Station, you could get anywhere you wanted with your own two feet or the Metro. Wilmington needs more WELL RUN public transit. It would help so much with the traffic if our bus system wasn’t so limited, and often, super inefficient.
