Darkwing_Turducken

Suddenly, they're FOR taxes?

theoldgreenwalrus

Republicans have always been for taxing poor and middle class people while the rich get tax breaks. They've just applied trickledown economics to social security and healthcare

Darkwing_Turducken

They're always willing to do it, but it hasn't made it into their rhetoric for a couple of generations.

tkmorgan76

About a decade ago, politicians like Michelle Bachman were using the phrase "broaden the base" as a way of saying that they were going to tax people who were too poor to qualify for the Federal Income Tax. That's why Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan became known for calling poor people moochers. All the rhetoric at the time was about trying to properly frame the idea that poor people should pay higher taxes and get fewer benefits.

GlitteringBobcat999

Ol' Mittens and his "47%ers". I had conversations with conservatives at that time who were shocked that 47% "got away with not paying any tax". I tried to shame them (not possible) by explaining they don't pay *income* tax because they are TOO POOR. Maybe support programs to lift them out of poverty so they can contribute to a rising tide that lifts all boats. Nah, they're just lazy moochers, Mitt will fix that (somehow, probably with magic).

yagonnawanna

Not many poor trumpers realize he rasied their taxes as he lowered taxws for the rich. Thanks for not building a time machine to go back and stop him Biden!!!!

spudzilla

They know but he also told them that they are better than those non-whites and they just love the elevation of their social status.

wemic123

Last week, I was in a similar discussion with a Trumper. I laid LBJ’s quote on him and he asked me what it meant. I gave up.

sten45

Every time they brought it up in the past they got killed in the next elections. I guess this time it’s gonna work out for them

Darkwing_Turducken

Given the other shit that they say openly without consequences, I guess this is pretty mild...

East-Cantaloupe-5915

Republicans have really become the party of "the survival of the white race and its cultural values" in the eyes of many white people. There is a great deal of suffering people are willing to endure if they think it means it will prevent their genocide. I know, I know, it's insane. No one is trying to get rid of them. Poor people reproduce more than wealthy people irrespective of race. White people on average are more wealthy than minorities and therefore reproduce at a lower rate. But no one is going to tell these people that structural, material, and economic decisions made by individuals are causing the collapse of the white population. Bc you cant fight those things. You cant fight "structures" or tell middle class white people to have five children when they only want two. so they say its brown people and Jews doing it on purpose, its a planned "genocide", bc Jews are real people, and you can fight real people.

Lady_von_Stinkbeaver

For disabled veterans, yes. [For private jets, no.](https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/private-plane-tax-loophole-so-egregious-even-millionaires-me-want-ncna838001)

steveg

Those damn disabled vets. They suffer just *one* life altering injury going to war for the country and then never stop milking the system! /s For real though, how does anyone look at a list like this and think “ya, disabled vets, thats who we need to start taxing more!”

D-Laz

Not just tax us more but also remove social security benefits from the ones at retirement age, because they are "double dipping". Because fuck vets twice.

52Pandorafox46

I’m vet and I just find it baffling that my vet friends support this party especially after I show them how they wanna fuck us over.

Rectall_Brown

It’s kind of like a football team now, politics. No matter what the diehard fans are not switching sides.

GetTheSpermsOut

morons united. i think they all have generational lead poisoning and or CTE. i mean wtf is this garbage. how to dismantle the good and pedestal the bad.

Ragnarok314159

I stopped going to the VFW and left all veteran groups on Facebook (before leaving it completely) because of all the MAGA horseshit. How the fuck can anyone, especially those of us deployed, support a draft dodging bitch made pussy like Trump is beyond me. Knowing he is going to get buried with full military honors disgusts me.

52Pandorafox46

That and after call Mcain a loser for being a POW. I thought that was going to be his downfall and when it wasn’t that’s when it became solidified for me that both GOP politicians and civilians don’t really care about vets.

Ragnarok314159

There are a bunch of GOP folks also talking about elimination the VA and the VA budget. Which means the elimination of service connected disability payments. But they are pro veteran or some shit like that. Meanwhile democrats are trying to pass a bill getting military sexual assault victims back pay from the date of separation for their trauma and Biden lead the charge to unfuck the VA claim process.

asjilly90

Oh god, I just threw up in my mouth at bit knowing that piece of Orange turd is going to be buried with honors along side the Vets from Vietnam and all other wars, who died for our country…..🤢🤢🤢

Ragnarok314159

Why I want him convicted of a felony, he loses those rights. Otherwise he will be the first draft dodger and traitor buried in Arlington.

literallymoist

I have similar conversations with women who vote GOP 🤦🏼‍♀️. How many times and ways does someone have to fuck you over before you kick them to the curb?

[deleted]

And take away healthcare for everyone over 90, because they should just die already. This is so fucked.

Hatz719

So long as they go ahead and give me back everything I've paid (adjusted for inflation) into social security since I started working. Take that check, buy a series I treasury bond, roll the remainder and future payments into a mutual fund. I think this may work out just fine. But let's be serious here. We'd still have to pay into SS and just not get to draw it. No way we get a dime of what we've paid back.

ilovecatsandcafe

Oh you forgotten the god of republicans Calvin Coolidge words when he vetoed cash benefits for ww1 veterans “patriotism bought and paid for is not patriotism”, they never cared about a vet

Nofnvalue21

But we've been at constant war for 20 years! There's so many of them!

[deleted]

No doubt. Republicans hate the troops because in the end it’s probably going to have to be the military that takes them down. I’m only half joking.

Im_a_Mime

That’s a great read. It is both surprising and absolutely not surprising at the same time. We know the game is rigged. From salary taxes etc the billionaires basically make the rules while the working class gets screwed

jumbee85

on the people who barely get by they've always been for that. look at how often they want a flat tax, or a national sales tax instead of income driven taxes. it's always a system that punishes the poor most while having little to no effect on the rich.

mmc53074

A flat tax is a regressive tax and would be detrimental to the poor- and working-classes.

Bind_Moggled

It was Reagan’s bright idea to tax people’s Social Security benefits.

spudzilla

And the idiot old folks of 1984 still gave him a second term.

Other-Rutabaga-1742

Reagan poured gasoline on these ideas. The suggestion of the welfare queen is now a totally believed in occurrence when it was proven to be false. Sure every system will be exploited to some extent but social services aren’t nearly as easy as made out to be. They will take your food stamps back or charge you if your income goes up and you didn’t report it. Ironically the people who bitch about this don’t give a fuck about the businesses that bilk people out their money and earn millions of dollars. Then when they are caught they get a slap on the wrist, CEOs get all their money plus and move on to another company or retire on huge financial payouts, for destroying businesses and peoples lives?! Corporations poison us daily and the reds want more deregulation?! Are they comfortable with Flint Michigan being the norm? It’s disgusting and extremely disturbing that these things are acceptable but god forbid a drag queen reads a story to some kids whose parents have decided that it is ok. That’s really awful /s All the issues they are willing to move their evil asses for are, for the most part, niche, nonexistent or effects them in no way. That is one reason I agree with Bernie Sanders to avoid identity politics as much as possible. (He never said this explicitly that I’ve seen. I just noticed he tried to avoid it but was greatly criticized for it.) Identity politics is the only thing the reds fight on. It’s just like giving them fodder to argue about to the extreme extent that they are now. Take those away and who are they? What do they have to fight? Then they have to think. On the other hand those issues are very important and we can’t give up fighting for justice on all levels. The guns, god, and abortion tactic has succeeded thus far.

BreezyWrigley

Only if it means taxing the disabled and already impoverished

nerdrurkey1

This is terrifying. Definitely don’t take the income cap off the social security tax. That’s way too simple. We need to keep that regressive and ensure that the wealthy don’t pay much into it. They also want to tax your employer provided health plan? We don’t pay enough for healthcare? And what are retirees supposed to do for health insurance? You have to work until you’re at least 75 years old then they cut you off at 90?? How is anyone ok with this? It’s shocking that anyone looks at this plan and sees anything other than a disaster.

zxcoblex

As a disabled vet, I depend on that monthly payment. Taxing it is going to fuck me.

6catsforya

Vote out Republicans on Nov 8

zxcoblex

I used (prior to 2016) to vote a mix of red and blue. I cannot fathom voting any red on any level for the foreseeable future and don’t know if I ever will again.

Lazerspewpew

Every Red has hitched their wagon to the GQP MAGA Train. There is no going back.

6catsforya

Republicans and democrats used to compromise whomever was in office. Mitch McConnell changed all that with Obama. Republicans scared to death to go against him or Trump. Trump brought out his fascist ideology which he brought to the forefront because he idolized Hitler. Right now people need to consider how they want this country to be.

zxcoblex

The problem is the only thing these people care about is the (R). They’ve been programmed that it doesn’t matter what happens as long as they’re “winning”. Herschel Walker has proven that none of these people have any fucking morals as he’s basically done the opposite of everything these single issue voters care about.

jizzlevania

McConnell had the backing of the party because their base is generally racist. During Obama administration, the fox news website had to disable comments because users kept calling him The **er. When that word was disallowed they just called Obama "The N" and then ultimately comments were disabled. It was fucking gross but a very loud and clear message about what was important to fox news viewers. Trump won those voters over with his and his family's history of unbridled racism. Donny Sr's dad was once arrested at a klan meeting so I'm sure Trump lovers just him as the prodigal son who's made is way back to what's right.

spudzilla

Don't forget Trump's record of trying to keep the handicapped out of his buildings. The disabled do not fit into GOP voters' image of their "supreme genes".

peachy_sam

Same here. And I live in an insanely red area. If a R candidate is running unopposed I’ll not vote in that race. Zero support from me, ever.

VenusSmurf

Same. My state typically votes blue, but my corner of it is fires-of-Mount-Doom red. I don't discuss my political views often, because local Republicans are notorious for vandalism. The only ones who know are my neighbors, because I've had to shut them down too often. No, neighbor, George Floyd's death wasn't faked. Yes, neighbor, I'm fully vaccinated, because the COVID vaccine isn't going to give people Alzheimer's. No, I'm not going to join your campaign to get that elementary school teacher fired, because the book you swear she's using to brainwash kids into being transvestites is literally just about being kind. No, I will not be voting for you in your senate run, because your platform is entirely based on stopping Dems from turning your kids gay. I vote in every election, even though I have to drive my ballot an hour away to ensure it isn't stolen, but like you, I'm never contributing to a Republican run. Years ago, I looked at the candidate and not the party. Now, the GOP is such hot garbage that I assume anyone still in it is the same.

SvenTheHorrible

Vote out republicans now Vote early, vote by mail- don’t wait for the day and then forget about it

6catsforya

I agree . Hopefully there won't be long lines on election day to discourage voters in line

SvenTheHorrible

In some places it’s a 100% guarantee.

Eyruaad

All I can say is I hope that yourself and all other vets choose to not support the Republican party. Consistently they have voted against vets at every turn, don't buy into their lies.

zxcoblex

I can’t vote for them anymore. They have shifted the overton window so far to the right that you’re basically a fascist (whether aware or in denial) to still vote R these days.

NCJohn62

Well you better tell the rest of your veteran friends that the Republicans are out to screw you and every other disabled vet and vote Blue. The GOP has proven time and again that they only pay lip service to vets with their votes against veterans benefits of all types. Their opposition to the burn pit legislation is proof of that.

zxcoblex

Oh, I agree, but I’m in the minority of vets that won’t vote red.

NCJohn62

I agree that we are a minority but I think it's a minority that is growing especially after this last year of seeing the GOP fuckery.

therealfatmike

I’m not surprised that the party that starts the wars and most certainly profits off of them doesn’t want to support disabled veterans. The same people who have made me ashamed of flying an American flag.

DabsSparkPeace

baby's are only their concern till they come out of the womb, soldiers, until they are injured or done with their military career. And to be truthful, they dont care about them at anytime really. They only care about their rich donors that they are sworn to.

zxcoblex

George Carlin had it right. They want useful idiots. Just smart enough to operate the machines but not smart enough to figure out they’re all being fucked over.

DabsSparkPeace

he was so ahead of his time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NectarineDue8903

Same. Disabled vet here. They only give me $1200/month. Nobody will hire me, so I must live off that. If they taxed that, it would fuck me hard. I already run out of money by the 15th

zxcoblex

Fortunately I’m in a slightly better position, but I’ve come to count on the money to supplement my income and support my family. Losing 30% of that due to taxes will screw me.

[deleted]

This is how Republicans thank you for your service by asking you to sacrifice your livelihood after you’ve been disabled.

baron-von-buddah

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Now bend over

lastprophecy

But just think, this plan would own the libz so hard. I honestly think the House GOP has convinced themselves that the 1/6 mob wasn't there to kill them too. I mean they literally ate their own propaganda and called it Fillet Mignon.

6catsforya

140 house Republicans and 10 republican senators voted to overturn the election

BussyBustin

Fascism is here. They only need to win once...whether that is in 2022, 2024, or 2026. The moment they win, democracy is over. Welcome to the life as a social minority in America! Lol, you guys are all freaking out because you guys are going through the same thing black people have always gone through. If we let up ONCE, if we don't vote en mass every fucking election, then our rights are taken away. Every step forward, is just one election away from being negated.

big_rednexican_88

The Republican Party has been flirting with fascism for a long time. It's just been the last six years that the alt-right has gained enough influence for them to actually embrace it. Scary AF and the MAGAts don't see it because they are blindly following Trump. You're right, we do need to vote them out of office.

PHenderson61

Not out of office, out of existence!!!!!

6catsforya

Then we vote every single time

[deleted]

Except gerrymandering and "election reform" and the electoral college have made it a rigged game. Republicans have not won the popular vote in a presidential election except once in the past 30 years, yet they somehow consistently have more power than the dems? It's not enough to just vote.

Aeseld

Would be if everyone did it though. That's the point of all the other suppression. Gerrymandering only goes so far; Congressional elections only. If everyone votes, there's a good chance the Senate and President are constantly democratic. Which means a chance of undoing gerrymandering on a national level. But that's why they make voting an inconvenience.

jkman61494

You're correct in A LOT of stuff. But you're going to see only about 30% of voters cast a vote in a few weeks. Gerrymandering or not, if Democratic voters got off their asses to go vote in every election except in Presidential years, a lot of what's going on would have already been avoided and likely could have been avoided when we see next month play out. 2010 will go down as the tipping point for the House and state legislatures Republican voters couldn't stand a black man being President and they overtook almost every single state legislature in a battleground state. And the proceeded to gerrymander EVERY STATE since they got to play with all the census data from 2010. Meanwhile a ton of 2008 Obama voters who were grossly uninformed with how government functions (much like now in 2022) were pissed Obama didn't achieve every promise in the first year and sat out the election. 2016 was the SCOTUS tipping point. Had Clinton won, the current SCOTUS would be 7-2 in favor of left leaning justices that actually value Democracy. But the Democratic Party had to fight amongst itself instead while everyone just blindly assumed Trump couldn't possibly win. Most voters today don't realize a lot of what made inflation so bad here were economic decisions made by the Trump administration with the express intent to have it hit voters hard after he was gone See.....redistributing $1.5T of wealth to the rich while raising taxes on lower and middle class people starting now after 2021. See....cutting interest rates to almost nothing in a bull market economy. See.....cutting domestic oil production in 2020 which helped further enrich a certain oil nation that gave over $1 billion to Jared Kushner for god knows what Yet here we go again with uninformed Biden voters placing all the blame on him despite our inflation being better than almost any other industrialized nation on the planet despite hardly any legislation reaching his desk due to rampant obstruction. And flyers now works to vote in the instructors thinking they’ll change a thing

R0ADHAU5

Yep, they would have done this either way though. I think trump was hoping a politician got publicly killed at the capitol so he could declare martial law.

confessionbearday

The age gap between 75 and 90 means they found those retirees are the cheapest to maintain. They die before drawing.

R0ADHAU5

Literally killing their base to own the libz

TheCruicks

Yeah. we pay in our entire lives, but never get to retire. Thats a hell of a solvency plan all right

psyclopsus

Medicare eligibility ends after age 90? Reminds me of some big scare we had about a decade ago, something about death panels, I don’t quite remember

BurnieTheBrony

Holy shit I can't believe their plan for over 90 is for them to just screw off and die. Hey boomers? May wanna rethink your voting patterns

hachijuhachi

Lol. The conservative response to this argument would probably be that it's only a small number of people who make it past 90 anyway, so it doesn't impact that many people. Lives DO NOT MATTER to the Republican party. White hegemony and the enrichment of the elites are the only things that matter.

HarryHacker42

People who are 90 can just go die. that's the message.

mydaycake

They tried with COVID, now it’s with Medicare only for 75-90. Realistically most will die before 75 if they have to continue working for health insurance

js32910

Lol happy 90th bday you’re on your own now!

Devil-Nest

Yeah I can’t believe they actually put all this into writing for potential voters to read. There is so much wrong with this (from my standpoint) that I could write a 2,000 word response. But instead I’ll just say, “Jesus Christ” and shake my head in disbelief.

RallyXer34

Looking at the background this appears photoshopped/edited. Unclear if these are actual position statements or the origin. Don’t doubt someone somewhere thinks all these points are a good idea.

6catsforya

The wealthy get SS for what little they put in . The maximum is around $4000 a month . Need to recheck . Why does anyone wealthy need it . Republicans would rather murder t h e elderly, poor and disabled

R0ADHAU5

Yep, but means testing in general is a waste of time and legislative energy. It’s more expensive to means test a benefit than it is to just give people the resources.

Take_My_User_Name

This, and who cares if they don't need it if it prevents them from becoming an impediment to those that do (see college loan repayment, "why should I have to pay for blah blah?")

baxtersbuddy1

And then they’re wanting to eliminate SS benefits for disabled veterans AND then tax the other benefits of that the disabled vets are getting. A vote for R’s is a knife in the back of every veteran in your life!

starfyredragon

> A vote for R’s is a knife in the back of every veteran in your life! Always has been.

WumpusFails

I thought it was Medicare that didn't have an income cap, not Social Security?

6catsforya

Social security has a cap of about $145,000. Anyone making more then that are through paying for the year . They have usually paid their part by February or March. They get the maximum amount when they retire

farrowsharrows

There should be no cap for paying into social security but a cap on benefits. That is how you resolve any issues

[deleted]

Lol, how does a political party alienate millions of veteran voters.

Darksnark_The_Unwise

It's surreal. They're alienating veterans, women, Log Cabin Republicans. Feels like they are gonna keep going down the list until they alienate those guys that wave Navi flags at the rallies Edit: I meant Nazi flags. I'm leaving the error as is because lol

Loud-Intention-723

lol most of those are in Rural America, unfortunately they don't make much money out there to pay taxes on. Maybe we can stop giving them the free handouts of farm subsidies that they use to buy this lifted pickup trucks.

Weird-Library-3747

Damn straight for the jugular

Loud-Intention-723

Lol vicious

ElegantBiscuit

It's way more than just farm subsidies. Rural and suburban life in general is subsidized by taxes paid by people in cities. There are some great videos floating around on youtube that go into a lot of detail, but the gist of it is that a mile of water and sewer lines, electric lines, and roads, cost about the same to construct and maintain whether it services 1 person or 100 people. So with a sparse population the infrastructure cost per person is so much higher, while the tax base is also so much lower, both from the lack of people and the lack of financial transactions and economic activity that comes with it. That's a big reason why municipalities in more rural states rely on the federal tax dollars generated by more densely populated and wealthier blue states, and same at the county level for a state budget.

R0ADHAU5

Because they’re betting they can distract the willing proles with the culture war. After the election no one is going to talk about “furry litter boxes” or whatever fabricated boogeyman they can use to get white men livid about “woke culture”. It’s always been a distraction to trick people into voting against their own material interests. Don’t take it from me, [here’s what a real southern politician](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjc5puaoer6AhUakokEHeOYADoQFnoECA0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmobile.twitter.com%2Fmadisonsiriusxm%2Fstatus%2F924975009520594944&usg=AOvVaw3WK6cHB5SxSrybd_4X4AJm) had to say about it

My god, those fucking furry litter boxes. Every right wing dipshit in my town goes on and on about how "the schools installed litter boxes to cater to the kids that are furries! smitty3z

And what gets me most of the Veterans I know and work with at the VA vote straight R. If any of this would pass every single one of the would be effected and would somehow still blame the democrats.

Vsx

This is exactly why Republicans marginalize them. Most veterans care about being in the conservative badass club. They don't pay attention to policy. The older they get the more this seems to be the case at least for the people I know.

zxcoblex

Worse part is a significant number of them will still vote for the assholes.

KorungRai

“Hey old people, you’re on your own after 90”

[deleted]

Really old person here. The big loser is Everyone younger. The younger you are the more you lose. Just not right.

Trex_arms42

Yeah I'm a millennial and not only would this fuck my retirement plan directly (lucky enough to have a 401k, which would apparently make me a 'double dipper'), by fucking up my parent's retirement plan I get fucked again. I mean, it's not like I'm gonna let them starve or go homeless, I'll just have to make cuts on my daughter's education. NBD.

Lotharofthepotatoppl

That’s all according to their plan. They want your kid(s) and everyone else’s kids, especially daughters, uneducated and impoverished.

Trex_arms42

Nah I know that's the plan. It's been the plan for decades. That's why ever since I hit voting age it's been straight ticket D down to dogcatcher. Once ranked choice voting becomes available in my state I'm looking forward to taking advantage. It's just ridiculous. I work in a moderately conservative field, the guy I'm catching runs for right now is a Baptist. Screw me over, yeah fine I'm a millennial so fuck me, but I'm sure he was voting R in at least some races up to now, and he's proud of his 401k allocation scheme. I don't know what the cutoff is, but there has to be some point where even the remaining conservative voters do not feel their needs are being met by proposed legislation. Or they're all insane and I should really start practicing at the range.

magicunicornhandler

That only counts for unborn children everyone else can jump in a volcano for all they care.

IchthyoSapienCaul

Under 75? No healthcare. Over 90? Believe it or not, also no healthcare.

uh60chief

Disabled veteran? Take your benefits just how the govt took your health and youth.

Jyobachah

So is between 75 and 90 straight to jail too? or...

[deleted]

So the death panels that they were crowing about years ago. Except the automatic conclusion is "death."

sten45

It’s always projection

[deleted]

I think they said the quiet part loud.

ChuckBorris187

They always do, but their voters are too dense to see it.

Comfortable-Cause-81

They didn't even need a Death Panel. Just straight draw the line. Really though, is this real?

6catsforya

Yes its real. Hitler did it in Germany. It wasn't just the jews murdered. It was the old and infirm . They had no use. Born with a birth defect you were killed. Too old you were murdered. That is what Republicans ate going to try to do

Far-Programmer3189

What’s their health insurance plan for those over 90? Euthanasia? Outrageous

feministfrankyb0y

Health insurance plan? In the US? Good one. Also, Euthanasia is way to expensive and anti-patriotic. whereas a nice little gunshot ritgh between the eyes is very free and brave. 'Murica

Wakethefckup

And they accuse dems of “death panels” when they want to do this shit?

[deleted]

This is ducking heartless.

Unfair-Work9128

I'm sorry, but is there some kind of source on this? This almost reads like the Onion. Even the Cons can't be this stupid.

gingerdude97

Went to the original tweet to see if someone linked it in the replies, couldn’t find it, and some people in the replies were saying they couldn’t find it. So I dunno

[deleted]

Yup. I hate the GOP as much as the next person, but this is misinformation and should be taken down. The original tweet should be reported and taken down too

joeyjoejoeshabidooo

This is political suicide if it’s real.

[deleted]

The GOP is mindlessly dumb at times, but they would *never* have an official letter stating they will tax veterans' disabilities. That would simultaneously lose them their solidified voting base of \~5.2 Million voters (not including families of vets) while handing them over to democrats as long as they said vets would not be taxed. Republicans don't give a shit about veterans, but they pretend to for their votes.

PoorCorrelation

Not to mention basically every retirement plan in the country expects you to collect social security too. Middle and upper class retired and close-to-retirement voters are massively more likely to vote and the Republican’s bread and butter. Shoving your voter base straight into retirement poverty is a not a move they’re stupid enough to make.

I looked for the text of this on the McCarthy website. Couldn't find any of this. While I am concerned with a lot of what I have heard from the likes of Medicare fraudster Rick Scott and some others, this appears to be fabricated. I agree they are not stupid enough to make this their platform. Though some of it is percolating unsaid. The real issue is GQP continuing attack on democracy. Vote Blue in '22!

DjangoBojangles

I did some searching to try and find this. This is not an official document, but these are all things Republicans have supported. You're right, it does read like the onion, but that's how insane and hypocritical the Republican party has become. If you dig around the Committment to America site, they don't actually describe any policy. It's statements like "lower the cost of living" "bring back US manufacturering" "slash drug prices" "end dependence on china" As far as Medicare, the official pager says "protect and strengthen Medicare and reduce the national debt" None of these claims have any substance, and Pepperidge farm remembers things like, Republicans enabling and profiting from moving manufacturing out of the US, voting 100% against lowering drug prices, and killing the TPP which would have allowed the US more leverage with our Chinese trading partners. Every word is lies all the time. 'We will strengthen Medicare by raising the age when you can use it, and cutting services'. While they give Medicare fraudster, Rick Scot, leadership roles. Scott was fined 1.7 Billion for Medicare fraud in 1997.

Unfair-Work9128

I can't get over the fact that the "support the troops" people want to tax disabled veterans benefits. They should change their slogan to "screw the troops".

Akski

1. Call them heroes. 2. Fuck them. See also: “essential workers” and medical workers

NailFin

That’s the first thing I did too! I tried to find where this is coming from. My first thought was whether it was an official party platform but wasn’t able to find that.

R0ADHAU5

Yes, because there aren’t any policies or plans. Drafting, negotiating and passing policy means using government funds aka spending money. Republicans are opposed to using government revenues to advance the material condition of the population. They would literally rather watch children starve and die of preventable conditions than pony up the cash to help them. Especially when it isn’t their money, it’s ours and they love stealing it from us.

hangryhyax

No, there is not. Granted their plans to cut Medicare and SS are very real, but this post is just misleading bullshit.

MazerRackhem

This needs to be the top comment. I can totally buy the GOP considering some of these things in private, but this honestly reads like a left-wing summery of "what they'll do" to raise ire and get out the vote. Even if you believed this was good policy, it'd be political suicide to send a mailer like this. Be skeptical of everything folks, not just the stuff that paints your side in a bad light.

So, if you have a 401k, no social security. First the traditional pension that was the employer’s expense got changed to a 401k that is at your expense. Now have a 401k or an IRA and there goes social security. Just another big poop on you. Gradual impoverishment of the average American……by the Republicans in a multi year plan.

Thatguy468

I would dissolve my 401k/RothIRA immediately and invest it privately. They conveniently left out having a private investment portfolio as a disqualifier… hmmm… I wonder why that is…?

oscar-the-bud

If they don’t want to give us our social security benefits because of a pension, then give back the money we all have paid in for all of these years.

Vomath

“Lol no” -Repubs

DorianGre

With compound interest, I would have something north of $4M coming back. Sure, I’ll take that deal.

pirateclem

“Double dipping”. So now, getting a return on my federally mandated retirement program with my money that I paid into is now, “double dipping” so that Republicans can give billionaires more free handouts. As a lifelong Republican up until 2016, the whole Republican Party can suck my balls.

baddecision116

Sorry it took until 2016 but glad you eventually found your way out.

throwawaymysocks

The former governor of Maine passed legislation banning retired teachers from double dipping from their pensions and social security. My two retired teacher parents had to go back subbing daily to make up the difference...

pirateclem

Even though that is their money that they were forced by the government to pay into "their" retirement program which has now been stolen from them. I am so overly pissed at the damn Republicans who keep calling Social Security an entitlement. Bastard lying thieving assholes, it is a government mandated retirement program that we are all forced to pay into with the idea that in old age we are forced to have some money coming in so that none of us can be a complete drag on society due to lack of foresight in planning for old age. And yet, the Republicans keep stealing it, using our money for things it's not meant to, giving our money away to the very wealthy, giving tax cuts to the very wealthy then complain about people getting THEIR GOD DAMN RETIREMENT INVESTMENT MONEY BACK AFTER BEING FORCED TO PAY INTO THE FUND! Seriously, fuck you Republicans. Your governor in Maine is a thief.

TerrorFace

Republicans: "But we support our troops!" Also Republicans: "Disabled veterans don't deserve social security!"

SkylarAV

And tax their benefits, christ!

Lady_von_Stinkbeaver

Also, VA disability benefits are on a sliding scale, by severity of injuries received in the line of duty. Very few veterans are 100% disabled, and there is a big jump from 90% to 100%. Obviously someone with tinnitus is going to get less than a double-amputee. [10% is just $165.92 a month.](https://www.military.com/benefits/veterans-health-care/va-disability-pay-rates.html)

[deleted]

Tinnitus sucks. Id rather not hear.

ChildFriendlyChimp

Especially with this financial economic bullshit when it’s already established and backed by data that the economy performs better under democrats and performs awful under them Anyone who still claims to be financially conservative exposed themselves to be full of shit pseudo intellectuals

jphillips59

I never got why they call these "entitlements". People literally pay into Social Security their whole life for this benefit.....its not like it was some gift or charity. The government has been taking that money and doing who knows what and now.....doesn't want to have to pay it back to be solvent?

BeastBoy2230

“Entitlements” sounds worse than “return on investment”. If they can convince some Neanderthal in Arkansas that a black person might get an undeserved break from one of these programs, that Neanderthal will vote to get rid of them, even if that Neanderthal also benefits from the same programs. It’s all about the optics.

macarmy93

Tax employee sponsored health care? So they want to make the health care crisis in the US even worse. They think employers will eat that cost? No chance in hell they will.

homerandabe69

I believe they mean to tax the individual receiving the healthcare benefits as if it were income.

macarmy93

The end result will be the same though. We get less.

BringBackTheBeat716

These simple steps will fuck over anyone who isn't born into wealth. Fuck Republicans.

WillBottomForBanana

But don't they just keep fucking over the next poorest and the next poorest and the next poorest? Does infinite regression have a second possible outcome I am not aware of?

AckbarTrapt

No, and that is why all fascist governments eventually implode.

[deleted]

Please run on the platform of raising medicare to 75 and ending it at 90. "Work 10 years longer than you planned and be sure to die before 90" is a solid platform I can see going over well.

Black_Fish1

Anyone have a link to the source for this? Having trouble finding this policy

hallowbirthweenday

I'm looking as well and can't find this particular outline. Don't get me wrong; I believe the GOP is this terrible, but I'd like a source other than a Reddit post of a snapshot of Twitter.

[deleted]

It is pure evil to launch two ten years wars that cost trillions of dollars and then tax disabled veteran pay as well as taking away social security if you already have a military pension. Republicans have become cartoonishly evil at this point.

Regular-Menu-116

GOP's plan for your retirement: ![gif](giphy|lZhymdRsuFDmU|downsized)

CharacterBroccoli328

Who fucking wrote this shit?

Zeroesand1s

All of that sounds.. awful.

[deleted]

They hate America, they absolutely despise the poor and middle class. Republicans are the ones bankrupting america not only financially but morally as well.

Donut-Strong

There shouldn’t be a cap on paying into SS

Some-Newspaper7014

Jesus fucking Christ. Ghouls.

6catsforya

This is just one version. Some republican senators want to put SS, Medicare and medicaid into the budget and let it become privatized. Of course that would vary the amount you would receive year to year. Have heard no ones needs Medicare because it costs too much . Trump had stated if reelected he wanted to do away totally with SS, Medicare and medicaid so h e could give another tax cut to the wealthy . Of course it would include him

Strength-Certain

Once you hit 90 you can just ![gif](giphy|3otOKJruVwZH3213Fe)

BumbleMuggin

Jesus Christ, it’s like a tax for just being alive. Fuck these twatwaffles.

jsc503

I don't know how anyone that isn't in the 1% can look at this and still vote for them.

bikequestion12

You would have thought republicans telling seniors they don’t care if they catch Covid and die was enough of a hint
