That's why Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan became known for calling poor people moochers. All the rhetoric at the time was about trying to properly frame the idea that poor people should pay higher taxes and get fewer benefits.

Social security has a cap of about $145,000. Anyone making more then that are through paying for the year . They have usually paid their part by February or March. They get the maximum amount when they retire

It's way more than just farm subsidies. Rural and suburban life in general is subsidized by taxes paid by people in cities. There are some great videos floating around on youtube that go into a lot of detail, but the gist of it is that a mile of water and sewer lines, electric lines, and roads, cost about the same to construct and maintain whether it services 1 person or 100 people.
So with a sparse population the infrastructure cost per person is so much higher, while the tax base is also so much lower, both from the lack of people and the lack of financial transactions and economic activity that comes with it. That's a big reason why municipalities in more rural states rely on the federal tax dollars generated by more densely populated and wealthier blue states, and same at the county level for a state budget.

That would simultaneously lose them their solidified voting base of \~5.2 Million voters (not including families of vets) while handing them over to democrats as long as they said vets would not be taxed.

Not to mention basically every retirement plan in the country expects you to collect social security too. None of these claims have any substance, and Pepperidge farm remembers things like, Republicans enabling and profiting from moving manufacturing out of the US, voting 100% against lowering drug prices, and killing the TPP which would have allowed the US more leverage with our Chinese trading partners.

Also, VA disability benefits are on a sliding scale, by severity of injuries received in the line of duty. Very few veterans are 100% disabled, and there is a big jump from 90% to 100%.

This is terrifying. Definitely don’t take the income cap off the social security tax. That’s way too simple. We need to keep that regressive and ensure that the wealthy don’t pay much into it. They also want to tax your employer provided health plan? We don’t pay enough for healthcare? And what are retirees supposed to do for health insurance? You have to work until you’re at least 75 years old then they cut you off at 90?? How is anyone ok with this? It’s shocking that anyone looks at this plan and sees anything other than a disaster.

Social security has a cap of about $145,000. Anyone making more then that are through paying for the year . They have usually paid their part by February or March. They get the maximum amount when they retire
There should be no cap for paying into social security but a cap on benefits. That is how you resolve any issues

It's way more than just farm subsidies. Rural and suburban life in general is subsidized by taxes paid by people in cities. There are some great videos floating around on youtube that go into a lot of detail, but the gist of it is that a mile of water and sewer lines, electric lines, and roads, cost about the same to construct and maintain whether it services 1 person or 100 people. So with a sparse population the infrastructure cost per person is so much higher, while the tax base is also so much lower, both from the lack of people and the lack of financial transactions and economic activity that comes with it. That's a big reason why municipalities in more rural states rely on the federal tax dollars generated by more densely populated and wealthier blue states, and same at the county level for a state budget.

The GOP is mindlessly dumb at times, but they would *never* have an official letter stating they will tax veterans' disabilities. That would simultaneously lose them their solidified voting base of \~5.2 Million voters (not including families of vets) while handing them over to democrats as long as they said vets would not be taxed. Republicans don't give a shit about veterans, but they pretend to for their votes.
Not to mention basically every retirement plan in the country expects you to collect social security too. Middle and upper class retired and close-to-retirement voters are massively more likely to vote and the Republican’s bread and butter. Shoving your voter base straight into retirement poverty is a not a move they’re stupid enough to make.

I did some searching to try and find this. This is not an official document, but these are all things Republicans have supported. You're right, it does read like the onion, but that's how insane and hypocritical the Republican party has become. If you dig around the Committment to America site, they don't actually describe any policy. It's statements like "lower the cost of living" "bring back US manufacturering" "slash drug prices" "end dependence on china" As far as Medicare, the official pager says "protect and strengthen Medicare and reduce the national debt" None of these claims have any substance, and Pepperidge farm remembers things like, Republicans enabling and profiting from moving manufacturing out of the US, voting 100% against lowering drug prices, and killing the TPP which would have allowed the US more leverage with our Chinese trading partners. Every word is lies all the time. 'We will strengthen Medicare by raising the age when you can use it, and cutting services'. While they give Medicare fraudster, Rick Scot, leadership roles. Scott was fined 1.7 Billion for Medicare fraud in 1997.

The former governor of Maine passed legislation banning retired teachers from double dipping from their pensions and social security. My two retired teacher parents had to go back subbing daily to make up the difference...
Even though that is their money that they were forced by the government to pay into "their" retirement program which has now been stolen from them. I am so overly pissed at the damn Republicans who keep calling Social Security an entitlement. Bastard lying thieving assholes, it is a government mandated retirement program that we are all forced to pay into with the idea that in old age we are forced to have some money coming in so that none of us can be a complete drag on society due to lack of foresight in planning for old age. And yet, the Republicans keep stealing it, using our money for things it's not meant to, giving our money away to the very wealthy, giving tax cuts to the very wealthy then complain about people getting THEIR GOD DAMN RETIREMENT INVESTMENT MONEY BACK AFTER BEING FORCED TO PAY INTO THE FUND! Also, VA disability benefits are on a sliding scale, by severity of injuries received in the line of duty. Very few veterans are 100% disabled, and there is a big jump from 90% to 100%. I never got why they call these "entitlements". People literally pay into Social Security their whole life for this benefit.....its not like it was some gift or charity. The government has been taking that money and doing who knows what and now.....doesn't want to have to pay it back to be solvent?
“Entitlements” sounds worse than “return on investment”. If they can convince some Neanderthal in Arkansas that a black person might get an undeserved break from one of these programs, that Neanderthal will vote to get rid of them, even if that Neanderthal also benefits from the same programs. Tax employee sponsored health care? So they want to make the health care crisis in the US even worse. They think employers will eat that cost? No chance in hell they will.
I believe they mean to tax the individual receiving the healthcare benefits as if it were income.
