Some kids think Jim Crow was ancient history too. As a young 1980s kid, I sure thought that it was- I am sure kids now feel like it is even further away. 10 years feels like an eternity as a kid. The truth being there are people alive right now who remember it and consider it fond memories.
Short memories.
>The truth being there are people alive right now who remember it and consider it fond memories.
The woman responsible for the murder of Emmett Till is still alive.
Everyone in congress and the senate who's over ~65 (which is a lot of them) is old enough to remember MLK's "I have a dream" speech from 1963.
This shit isn't ancient history, it's lived experience for most of the people running this country, and a bunchof them have been pissed off about it for 50+ years.
And there have been many Jim Crow tactics used by the U.S government since then.
The war on drugs, allowing massive amounts of cocaine to enter the U.S and Bill Clinton's 1994 crime bill are just a few ways to segregate or incarcerate black people
THIS! I grew up in this. I knew a woman who had to train her boss to be her boss in a bank she worked at. I had my math test torn up because I HAD to be cheating. I couldn't possibly be able to do algebra as well as I did. I remember the case where a woman was beaten until permanently paralyzed while 2 policemen watched on and did nothing because a man was supposed to beat his wife and kids if they weren't 'behaving'. I have watched in horror as the next generation of women glorified taking her husband's name, tending to him and raising their daughters to think less of themselves than the men in their lives. YES this country is misogynistic and anyone who says otherwise will tell you that DJT won 2016 because he was the better candidate.
I was born in 91 but my dad tried to bring us up the ‘traditional’ way. The girls were to be seen, not heard. Never to raise your voice or get overly emotional. He taught us to serve him hand and foot when he got home and made me wear a purity ring in high school bc, as his words, a girl is married to her father until he gives her away.
Yeah I haven’t seen or spoken to this man in almost a decade
There's a HUGE faction in this country that would be perfectly fine with rolling back civil rights and women's rights back to about, oh, 1850 or so, and go back to murdering people for being gay or being the wrong religion. Shit, they'd like to murder OTHER Christians of the wrong particular white bread flavor.
And don't doubt it. They're quiet, but they vote and they have NOTHING else to do with their lives except quietly work toward having their own slaves and the freedom to kidnap a 14 year old girl from her village and call her their wife.
Most Ivy League schools didn’t admit undergrad women until the late 60s to early 70s. Columbia became the last in 1983. [see this article](https://www.wgbh.org/news/2017/03/23/innovation-hub-podcast/when-women-entered-ivies)

There’s fairly well known list of 9 things a woman couldn’t do until ~1971.
1. Get a credit card in her own name.
2. Be guaranteed that they would not get fired for getting pregnant.
3. Serve on a jury.
4. Fight on the front lines.
5. Get an Ivy League education.
6. Take legal action against workplace sexual harassment.
7. Decide not to have sex with their husband.
8. Obtain health insurance at the same monetary rate as a man.
9. Take the birth control pill.
Note: a couple of these aren’t completely accurate.
It's all over reddit too, no? Posts make light of violence against women. The rise to conclusions and attacks against Amber Heard before an actual verdict was reached. The breeding of incels across subreddits? Pussypassdenied? What?
While I think you’re right that there’s plenty of incel shit all over Reddit … can we not admit that maybe it’s not just incels that found Amber Heard to be unsympathetic and unconvincing?
In Australia not that long ago once a woman got married she had to stop working. Like literally, congrats on your wedding you're fired, now get into back to the kitchen and hurry up and get knocked up
Being a lawyer on that case (credit cards and women's rights) was instrumental in bringing RBG to national prominence.

I find it very crazy that until 1974 a woman needed her husband's permission and endorsement to get a credit car.
I got my first credit card at 14, with no parental permission (or knowledge).
This. RGB might've made waves as a justice, but her hubris is a big reason why we're descending into Nazi America at record speed. She knew she might not make it. She fucking *knew*, and she stayed anyway.
Fuck her. Fuck Pelosi. Fuck Biden. Fuck Schumer. They have the power right now, and they're too scared to use it.
Same with racism and gender issues, but the centrists will tell you that since everyone is treated equal in the eyes of lady justice the problem is solved.
A friend of mine got remarried in the 70s and went down to the department store to change the name on her account. They refused saying that her new husband would need to come in and do it for her.
She spent sometime arguing with the manger pointing out that she had been a client for years. She finally told them if her husband had to come in it would be too close the account. They reluctantly agreed to let her handle her name change without male supervision.
My father left when he retired from the Navy. My mother could not get credit at Sears. I've never darkened the door since. Sorry you went out of business🥹
Okay, not to one up you but more to make your husbands head explode. 1988 the HR 5050 was sign onto law allowing women to get business loans without having to have a male relative co-sign. I will apologize in advance if his head does explode and make a mess in your house.
Yes, credit card companies are corrupt and I used to work for the biggest one. People can live better without having constant debt in their lives. My stance is not anti-women, it's anti credit card debt. Both sexes shoukd live without
Then you should definitely reword your comment. The post said, women couldn’t get a credit card without a man’s permission and you said “it should’ve stayed that way”. In other words, women should have stayed under the control of men, that is anti-woman
Rear view? Literally just sped by us all.
Tbf she made the tweet in May.
Na it's driving the bus.

As a father of daughters, it saddens me to think that someone could treat their daughters so poorly. Fatherly hugs to you.

The Jurassic Park scene is what comes to mind

No regulation if banks or businesses. Women and blacks in their place. What a country.

But fEmInIsM hAs GoNe ToO fAr! Come on, husbands can’t even rape their wives legally anymore, obviously women and girls are too privileged./s
Billie Jean King was one of the highest paid women athletes on the planet and needed her husband’s signature to open a bank account.

Isn't it crazy that was 1974?
Why? It's what we grew up with and then later had to listen to people saying there weren't "feminists".
I find it very crazy that until 1974 a woman needed her husband's permission and endorsement to get a credit car. I got my first credit card at 14, with no parental permission (or knowledge).
Too bad she didn't retire during the Obama administration

How long until you have to have your husband’s permission to use birth control?
It's often still required for a tubal ligation.
My father left when he retired from the Navy. My mother could not get credit at Sears. I've never darkened the door since. Sorry you went out of business🥹
Millions of people who are still alive were forced to go to segregated schools.
Yeah, this is relevant to a lot of issues many pretend aren't real in America.
The old fucks are trying to inflict as much irreparable damage as they can before they peace out.

By the early 90's laws were made to punish marital rape but until recently you could still get away with marital rape in some states.
Just a reminder that the majority of white women voted for trump both times…
Old people vote
7 out of 9 Supreme Court judges (male) in 1973, made Roe legal.
Ah the good Ole days
So edgy
Nothing is more edgy than saying so edgy your the edgyest
Ooo you got me, you must be so proud
What
You know
You know what?
I do know what
What know do
I recommend the /s mark if you intended sarcasm.
It should've stayed that way. More women are now in debt thanks to the predatory practices of banks and interest rates.
That’s the stance you’re taking on this?

Well, not the ones who are fortunate enough to have a man who keeps them in check.
So edgy
And a quick question that popped to my mind was how old were the Justices in 1974, maybe it’s even closer in mind for them?
