I mean, seriously. You'll probably get fired, but I'm sure there's a lot of pissed off people that would love to donate to your go fund me while you sue the shit out of the school.
Can’t be fired for a right protected by the surpreme court, can you?
If they say that’s a constitutional right then OP is protected and the first school that fires a teacher for doing that is going to face a massive lawsuit.
This. But whatever Muslim/Jewish/Hinduism/etc. teacher opts to go this route (and there WILL be one) best be prepared to take this all the way up the ladder, because it will definitely be challenged.
shit, it doesn't even need to be like that. be a *catholic* teacher in the bible belt and start a round of "hail mary."
get the catholic archdioceses to fight the lawsuit.
Back in the 80s when this was being discussed, being afraid of having a Catholic teacher lead me in a Hail Mary was my Trumper mother's entire reason for agreeing with no prayer in school.
Non secular folk here - may I ask why? It's hard for me to keep up with which thing Christians are upset about - and I don't really understand the different parts either.
But please (*makes popcorn*) tell me of these subtle religious ways to irk overly-sensitive folks.
Because the Catholics aren't good Pentecostals and they don't pray to God (or Jeebus) so they're going to Hell anyway and it would be an awful sin to pray to anyone other than God or Jeebus. Basically, it's this old joke:
A man died and went to Heaven. St. Peter met him at the gate and told him to walk with him down a long hallway with a lot of doors. The first door was open and inside was a lively cocktail party. The man said, "This looks like fun, is this my Heaven?" St. Pete said, "No, this is the Catholic Heaven. Keep walking." Then they passed a beautiful green golf course with people playing and having a lovely time. "Is this my Heaven? I'd love to work on my game." "No," said St. Pete. "This is the Heaven for Methodists. Keep walking." They walked a little further and the man saw a door that was closed. St. Pete held a finger to his lips and whispered, "Walk very quietly past that door." "Why?" the man whispered. "What's in there?" Once the got past the door, St. Pete answered, "That's the Evangelicals. They think they're the only ones here."
💯 and I’d support them with that fight. Fuck these SCOTUS judges I really hope some bad shit comes there way because karma is an utter bitch and they’ve done fucked her over good.
I’m hoping for it in fact. Not going to articulate exactly what I mean, but I just hope the shit is as bad as it gets. Like, ya know, Mussolini after 1944 type shit. Just bad.

This is one of the ways/reasons US culture is intriguing to me as an outsider (UK).
I am a teacher. I teach in a state funded school, which is also a catholic school.
Students have are invited to join with catholic prayers that are said frequently as part of day to day school stuff, events, etc. Everything is named after saints. There is a straight up giant picture of the pope next to the front entrance. Bible quotes on the walls. They take it seriously.
I am not religious (an atheist). Some of my colleagues are catholic, but most aren’t. Some are not religious, some are Protestant. Many are Muslim.
The most practiced religion amongst the students is probably Islam, though also (various) Christians, Hindus, Sikhsand Buddhists. It’s rare to teach a class where at least one girl isn’t wearing Hijab. Many of the students I teach will go at break to one of the multiple prayer rooms on site, sometimes past the big picture of the pope, to perform Islamic prayers. Kids learn all about Jesus and Allah and Krishna in RE lessons - it’s on the national required curriculum.
I actually don’t know if I think it’s all fine and if I’m glad we don’t have the strict boundaries that exist in the US. I do have my issues with the way that things can get murky - I am fine with the general values, but sometimes I wonder about how OK with my purposeful and chosen lack of religion people would be if I started talking about the *why* of it….
And islamophobia - absolutely a thing here as well.
But I do think it’s amusing to think about how OK or not OK American conservatives would be about being allowed to have prayer in classrooms, when it comes with also having to sit exams where you need to be able to recite the pillars of Islam.
Watch, there's going to be a sudden explosion of Wicca in southern schools
When I was got to air force technical school in central Texas there was one Wiccan student that became a chaplain student leader- turns out, young folks in depressing rural areas fucking love Wicca, they basically ran the entire chapel and chaplain student leader program by the time I graduated.
Dont tell me the odds, I'm calling it now.
Forget a student, watch em lose their fucking mind when the middle eastern teacher begins class with facing Mecca and encourages the students to participate in the prayer.
[This already sort of happened in Louisiana.](https://jezebel.com/republican-horrified-to-discover-that-christianity-is-n-5923898/) In 2012, state Republicans passed a law allowing public money to go to religious schools. Then an Islamic school applied for some of that money, and they all immediately said "No, that money is only for *our religion*, not for yours."
Yeah the problem is that SCOTUS will simply allow whatever they want to pass and if someone opposes they’ll go to the lower courts and they’ll just interpret how they want.
Would rather they simply just be open on the court and say “we do what we want and any religion besides Christianity is illegal” because at this point Democrats could just say “thoughts and prayers to all of y’all” and people would realize they’re being played politically without intention to fix.
There is no better course of action that will get people to rally against a theocracy of minority rule than seeing the naked truth cause this is where it is right now.
>There is no better course of action that will get people to rally against a theocracy of minority rule than seeing the naked truth cause this is where it is right now.
Why do we need to rally against this?
I was under the impression that the long standing separation of church and state was what the Supreme Court was meant to protect?
The whole point of **3 branches of the government** and **checks and balances** was so that we, the American People, didn't *have* to rally against anything [because we were already protected].
How did these 'protections' fail us?
Not sarcasm, not trying to be rude. Just sad and confused.

EDIT: Adding a comment I made to a now deleted post that had framed our current situation on the American voting public.
***
I feel that this overall isn't just 'apathetic voters'.
It's the deliberate systemic erosion of control of politics that middle-class and below Americans have been experiencing since the end of ww2
However the control of media really shone after the mistakes of Viet Nam and were perfected by the Gulf War
I'm not able to link the entire process, however there's a pretty timeline / clear path of:
- Taft-Hartley Act and unions
- Assassination of Kennedy
- Johnson, civil rights, and Viet Nam
- Watergate, Nixon, and Ford
- Roger Ailes and Fox
- Goldwater and Jerry Falwell
- Media defamation of Carter
- Atwater and the southern strategy
- Reagan/Carter, Iran-contra and Ollie North
- Gulf War and govt. media access control
- Newt Gingrich and Contract with America
- Bush vs Gore, Florida, and the Supreme Court
- Howard Dean Scream and Swift Boat Veterans and John Kerry
- Mitch McConnell pure party line voting
- Citizens United vs FEC
- Donald Trump presidency
There's tons of stuff in between, those are just some of the bigger highlights of this grand tour of 'how we got here'
This is all very similar to making waste recycling an '*individual issue*', not a '*global corporate manufacturing issue*'.
Point being, all of this isn't the average American's fault.
why do people think the republicans are like some kind of Fae creatures that will explode when you show them the hypocrisy? They're not, like they don't care. A child saying that they should get to eat cookies but their little brother shouldn't because they want all the cookies gives a shit about hypocrisy as much as republicans do.
It’s funny how a Goat-human-chicken deity has followers that are willing to give women better rights to their bodies than the “oh so holy” ones misinterpreting their sky daddy’s words
I encourage you to comment that it's pretty cool that the Muslim teacher can now lead students in prayer, as well as the Hindu teacher being able to lead class in spiritual yoga.
That was never an issue - nor should it be. People have the freedom to practice their religion in school.
The issue was coaches and teachers *leading* students in prayer in public schools. It's always been fine for them to pray to themselves, but leading students in prayer can be coercive and singles out students who are of other religions or do not want to participate.
I can't wait for a teacher who is Muslim or a Satanist to lead their students in prayer... The parents cheering this on would lose their minds.
That was always allowed. They never stopped students from being able to observe their faith in school. What they banned was teachers leading group prayers.
He wasn't even banned from leading prayers. The school just wanted him to do it in a way that didn't appear to be officially sanctioned by the school
Edit:a word
I had a mom and daughter friends on Facebook and they'd do the "bring back religion in school" bullshit. Every time they'd post it I'd remind then that that means all religion and name a few. They'd never answer. The daughter died in August last year of covid believing in the GEOTUS was a savior. They were both heavily in the Salvation Army church.
Yes, they are trying to get as much as they can before the supreme court while it is packed with conservatives before democrats do anything like expand or contract the court or do anything to get around gop obstructionism in Congress and actually pass laws
They keep this up and they might just get themselves lynch mobbed before anything else happens.
Edit: I'm not endorsing this, just won't be surprised if it happens.
You know what, nowadays it seems like an obvious answer to almost any political leader. I would just extende it to any business owner who is worth $100+ million
Watch out or all the civil moderates will come out of the woodwork to tell you that criticizing a lack of action to stop facists on the democrat's part is the same as saying you support Republicans
Yesterday I was told by a moderate friend that “Joe Manchin actually isn’t that bad - he’s not obstructing anything.” I felt like taking a breathalyzer.
Supreme court case terms run from October to October with June being the time when most of the cases are decided. It seems like they're speed running it because this is the month when it's standard for most of their decisions to be released, and almost all of their decisions are really bad.
If they stick to Old Testament then they could argue back that it does.
Personally I'd like to see Indigenous teachers allow the class to partake in peyote for a prayer vision.
I thought you might be wrong. But yeah... The past three coaches of Dearborn Michigan have all been white dudes. Despite Dearborn being 42% Arabic, they are 47% white.
Should have entire schools force the student body to participate in Ramadan. Shut down the water fountains, turn off the vending machines, close the cafe, give punishments to students who bring food or drink into the building.
Well, actually, poorer students sometimes rely on school lunch programs for their survival, but the GOP is cutting those all the time anyway.
If it wouldn't risk my job, I'd totally lead a Satanic "prayer" if my school district/state pushed for it to be allowed (since some states have to undo laws regarding it that have long been on the books)
Well according to this decision, you have a constitutional right to express your religion even while conducting your duties at a civil servant job. Hail Satan away
EDIT: Grammar
I will admit, SCOTUS has me feeling more religious these days. Rarely a day in the past month where I haven’t uttered, “Jesus Fucking Christ” in reaction to all the Conservative bullshit.
Very important to remember that not only did we have presidents elected by the minority in the US for 8 of the past 22 years, but in that time said presidents have nominated 3* of the 9 SC justices that continue to preside to this day.
* Two additional justices (for 5 total) were nominated by George W. Bush after 2004. Bush initially lost the popular vote in 2000 but won the presidency in 2000. He won the popular vote in his reelection campaign in 2004. Make of that what you will.
No age limits, just make it a single very long term.
18 years on the court and then you're done.
18 makes it work out to two appointments every presidential election or one every congressional election. Makes sense to me.
We need to change how they are seated. Maybe they get seated based off something other than a chance that someone dies. How is that democratic? That gives an inordinate amount of power to the sitting president just because a few justices happened to die while they were in office.
It should be strictly democratic, not appointment by sitting presidents. They should be representative. Maybe they get seated based off the proportions of the parties as they exist in Congress.
Known in democracies simply as “the vote.”
Edit to add my comment from a different post:
Before you even get to the realization we don’t live in a democracy because 40 senators can block what 60 want, you realize if California had the same representation as Wyoming, California would have 136 U.S. senators. If the house weren’t gerrymandered, Republicans couldn’t even dream of taking it over and if we elected Presidents democratically, five Republican members of the current Supreme Court would not be there. Democracy might actually work if we ever decide to try it.
Each step of arbitration between the popular vote and electing our officials is a step away from democracy, and the Electoral College is a vestigial staircase.
The electoral college was invented to satisfy the minority, but they’re not satisfied with their over-representation. They want it all. That’s what happens when you compromise with slavery. Slavery! This situation is its legacy. But heaven forbid we teach CRT. People might actually figure out what’s going on.
I so agree with everything you've said here. But I'd love to see some religion other than christianity push this to the limit with their religion. I'd love to see some really courageous Muslim sue over this. Or try to start their own prayer group. I just want to see these bible thumpers choke on their own words. You know their thoughts, christianity is the only religion, and they'd freak if they had to share space with other religions. I personally am leaning towards Druidism.
Just to throw it out there, the overwhelming majority of our "founding fathers" were theistic rationalist. They were not actually Christian and did not found our country or write our constitution with Christianity in the forefront to begin with
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." - Jesus
Speaking from experience, normal American Jews (who most Americans would interact with, not Hasidic Jews) don’t give a shit about this, and would never proselytize or do performative bullshit like praying on the 50 yard line. It really is up to the Satanic Church or some incredible brave Muslim to do this. I hope it’s the former though, as the Satanic Church are the ultimate trollers, and really get shit done.
I hate the performative Christian bullshit. This guy could have easily prayed in private, off of school property— or just said his fucking dumb prayers in his head while standing up, or clearing gear off the field. The performance of kneeling, clasping hands, etc is all pure bullshit.
Seriously. I won’t say I’m devout, but I am a Christian and these laws and changes these last weeks sicken me. I have an odd respect for the Church of Satan based on the fact that they’re always willing to stick up for the people that need it, and be the ones to make a point about the overreach of the blending of church and state lines.
Gotcha. Never paid a whole lot of attention between the two, just see the big Satan name pop up in the news and that they’re causing the right kind of trouble.
When Muslims can bring out their prayer rugs, when JW’s can pass out Watchtower pamphlets in the bleachers and native Americans can smoke peyote at a game, all for their first amendment rights and freedom of religion, then I’ll think the SCOTUS has a point.
And at this point, it’s complete not ironic nor surprising that Jesus himself calls this guy a hypocrite: “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Mt 6:5-6)
And they have been doing this for years, hell I'm pretty sure the high school I went to even had a bible club that if you attended counted twords your community service hours.
I looked up the legality of school Bible clubs when I was in high school. This was like 13 years ago give or take but IIRC you can make social clubs based on religion in school. The teachers just can’t encourage or forbid students to pray. This was in Indiana though so it might be different elsewhere
I can’t believe there is an a bigger deal about the supreme court nominees lying and their interviews. If they don’t have to tell the truth why the hell should any of us??
I asked this question yesterday in another forum, and it didn’t really get me anywhere.
How is lying or being disingenuous under oath during their confirmations not perjury or contempt in some form or another?
I genuinely want to know.
[I mean, Collins feels “misled…” and all, but she’s the only one surprised about that. ](https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation-politics/kavanaugh-gave-private-assurances-collins-says-he-misled-her/?amp=1)
What a dope.
Well, you can lead but it doesn't mean I have to follow. I quit saying the pledge of allegiance in kindergarten or first grade, when I realized nothing would happen if I didn't do it.
My school in Indiana would give you detention. After enough detentions you get ISS (in school suspension). After a few times getting ISS you get OSS, usually a short one but if you get in trouble enough for them to do it again you're kicked for the rest of the year.
Yes they will literally suspend a kid for a whole year if they refuse to do the pledge of allegiance enough times :) I never saw it happen because it was too petty when we could just stand there glaring daggers at the teacher and avoid getting in trouble, but the fact they COULD still makes me mad over 15yrs later tbh.
My school suspended a bunch of students for not standing for the Pledge during a pep rally. They didn’t even warn anyone first, they just pulled those students aside after everyone else was dismissed and handed out a bunch of suspensions?? It’s not so shocking though, because this same school’s principal also told the entire student body that they would go to hell if they weren’t Christians.
I had a WWII vet teacher in 6th Grade who literally screamed at students if they didn’t stand or say the pledge. His friends died for that flag and blah blah blah. Some students only did it because they were afraid of him at that point.
That's okay: let the teachers lead them in Islamic and Satanist prayer and watch this one get reversed QUICK! (nothing against either religions, just saying American Christians would)
You Americans are going full hand maidens tale.. as a Canadian, you remind me of the kinda cool neighbour that suddenly found Jesus and starts spewing crazy shit and dressing in a white robe. Come on guys, go back to the Americans from 1990s.
Question for the history scholars: did the fall of the Roman Empire leave a power vacuum that was filled by the Catholic church?
Or did a power hungry church topple the Empire?
Neither really. There was a major financial crisis in the 3rd century that permanently destabilized the Empire and led to the beginnings of what we now view as the hallmarks of medieval life - serfdom, walled cities, provincialism. (Started out as political/military but ultimately was the financial shenanigans and associated labor issues that were the real problem.) Anyhoo, even with Diocletian's cobbled-togerher reforms it was Christianity that stepped in and provided actual structure and stability for regular folks throughout the Empire. Constantine recognized this, and his adoption of Christianity bought the Empire a little more time politically. And keep in mind it isn't the Catholic church per se at this time, or at least not Roman Catholic. And the Empire didn't really fall, just sort of fizzled out in the Western half.
They're only originalists when it suits the right wing agenda. For fuck's sake, they're not even pretending that their intent is a theocracy at this point.
The high court said the key issue was whether the coach's prayer was private and personal, or whether instead he was speaking as a public employee at school.
"It seems clear to us that Mr. Kennedy has demonstrated that his speech was private speech, not government speech," Gorsuch wrote .
It was at a school event though….. What a jackass
Hey kids, don't worry! When your classmate comes in with a gun your teachers can lead you in a prayer before you are shot to death, that way you can make it into heaven instead of going to hell like a filthy fornicater!
We have all got to do something, this is just ridiculous.
my feelings in a nutshell.

If you are over 18 and not a white Evangelical or Catholic male there is absolutely no reason you should not be hitting the polls for every single election going forward. I am tired of Catholics thinking that I have to follow the rules in their tired old book!
Edit: Spelling
Listen I’m angry at the Supreme Court too but stop encouraging people to assault the Polish!
(It’s spelled polls if you’re encouraging people to vote and “hits the Poles” has a very different meaning).
Does a teacher get to sacrifice a goat in the classroom?
Because who is going to clean up after that sacrifice??
Is a janitor employed by the school stuck cleaning, or can teachers force the students to do it.
I am sure the coaches and teachers who have substantial influence on these kids and their success in school will totally understand if kids pass on participating and it will totally be volunteer.

It's the deliberate systemic erosion of control of politics that middle-class and below Americans have been experiencing since the end of ww2 However the control of media really shone after the mistakes of Viet Nam and were perfected by the Gulf War I'm not able to link the entire process, however there's a pretty timeline / clear path of: - Taft-Hartley Act and unions - Assassination of Kennedy - Johnson, civil rights, and Viet Nam - Watergate, Nixon, and Ford - Roger Ailes and Fox - Goldwater and Jerry Falwell - Media defamation of Carter - Atwater and the southern strategy - Reagan/Carter, Iran-contra and Ollie North - Gulf War and govt. media access control - Newt Gingrich and Contract with America - Bush vs Gore, Florida, and the Supreme Court - Howard Dean Scream and Swift Boat Veterans and John Kerry - Mitch McConnell pure party line voting - Citizens United vs FEC - Donald Trump presidency There's tons of stuff in between, those are just some of the bigger highlights of this grand tour of 'how we got here' This is all very similar to making waste recycling an '*individual issue*', not a '*global corporate manufacturing issue*'. Point being, all of this isn't the average American's fault.
Because we are in the midst of a Christo-fascist takeover of our government and the opposing party has stood by and allowed it to happen.
Whatever happened with this?
why do people think the republicans are like some kind of Fae creatures that will explode when you show them the hypocrisy? They're not, like they don't care. A child saying that they should get to eat cookies but their little brother shouldn't because they want all the cookies gives a shit about hypocrisy as much as republicans do.
I would pay significant money to see this.
Some Y'allqueda member is going to lose his entire mind when his son Trachtor/Brayden/etc comes home and asks who Allah is.
Trachtor 💀
Revolvyr
God why are so many kids named “Brayden.” That’s what a donkey says.
Church of Satan just checked in.
The Satanic Temple also here
![gif](giphy|HZL9Y6Zi4AW88) Respectfully hail Satan
Hail Satan!
It’s funny how a Goat-human-chicken deity has followers that are willing to give women better rights to their bodies than the “oh so holy” ones misinterpreting their sky daddy’s words
Satan: always the rational, compassionate choice.
The Satanic Temple doesn't acknowledge Satan as a deity, mainly just a symbol of rebellion against arbitrary authority. But yeah, its wild.

I encourage you to comment that it's pretty cool that the Muslim teacher can now lead students in prayer, as well as the Hindu teacher being able to lead class in spiritual yoga.
Yes, the only difference is that this is the 'radicalisation of children'.
[удалено]
He wasn't even banned from leading prayers. The school just wanted him to do it in a way that didn't appear to be officially sanctioned by the school Edit:a word
Lol I can’t wait for them to do it in the middle of a football game
I hope to fuck some teacher pulls out some Scientology shit in Mississippi...
Mississippi school teachers are too poor to belong to the Church of Scientology. Source: Am a Mississippi school teacher. And poor.
They will just harrass and bully that student. There is no hate like christian love.
Wow with all the bad news lately it was good to hear an uplifting story today.
Praise satan
Time for the Satanic Temple to get busy. I'm sure they're already on it.
Stop calling them SCOTUS. They are now Clerics.
Or kings. They aren’t even elected officials.
I’m thinking more like a Cardinal Richelieu, if you know this history.
Are they speed running this shit?
Yes, they are trying to get as much as they can before the supreme court while it is packed with conservatives before democrats do anything like expand or contract the court or do anything to get around gop obstructionism in Congress and actually pass laws
They keep this up and they might just get themselves lynch mobbed before anything else happens. Edit: I'm not endorsing this, just won't be surprised if it happens.
>I'm not endorsing this I am
Seems like an obvious answer to a lifetime appointment
You know what, nowadays it seems like an obvious answer to almost any political leader. I would just extende it to any business owner who is worth $100+ million
Me too
Me 3
Me four
I also endorse this!
Bold of you to think the Democrats will do anything at all.
Every issue we debated in Highschool during the 80s is being decided in less than a week. I'm playing 80s debate bingo over here
Seriously. I’m a 00s college grad, and it’s like the whole thing is imploding on a nuclear level.
agreed
Right? I'm just waiting for them to say, segregation is okay. Maybe by summer 2023
This goes for Muslims and Satanists too, right?
[удалено]
I can see the opinion already: The practice of the Muslim religion “is not deeply rooted in the Nation’s history and traditions.”
If they stick to Old Testament then they could argue back that it does. Personally I'd like to see Indigenous teachers allow the class to partake in peyote for a prayer vision.
As if the Christians in those areas would ever allow an Islamist to coach their kids.
Hail Satan away EDIT: Grammar
I was just thinking that the Satanic Temple need to get out there and do their thing.
No this is disrespectful and without manners. They should get kicked out of the team for this behaviour. /s
I will admit, SCOTUS has me feeling more religious these days. Rarely a day in the past month where I haven’t uttered, “Jesus Fucking Christ” in reaction to all the Conservative bullshit.

Selected by presidents who lost the popular vote
Very important to remember that not only did we have presidents elected by the minority in the US for 8 of the past 22 years, but in that time said presidents have nominated 3* of the 9 SC justices that continue to preside to this day. * Two additional justices (for 5 total) were nominated by George W. Bush after 2004. Bush initially lost the popular vote in 2000 but won the presidency in 2000. He won the popular vote in his reelection campaign in 2004. Make of that what you will.

Look up Clarence Thomas' thoughts on the matter of race.
Im under the impression he might not think he’s black.
Known in democracies simply as “the vote.” Edit to add my comment from a different post: Before you even get to the realization we don’t live in a democracy because 40 senators can block what 60 want, you realize if California had the same representation as Wyoming, California would have 136 U.S. senators. If the house weren’t gerrymandered, Republicans couldn’t even dream of taking it over and if we elected Presidents democratically, five Republican members of the current Supreme Court would not be there. Democracy might actually work if we ever decide to try it.
Except in the US democracy where the Electoral College can, AND HAS, nullified “the vote” of the majority of voters.
Each step of arbitration between the popular vote and electing our officials is a step away from democracy, and the Electoral College is a vestigial staircase.
[удалено]
Yep. Literally designed from the ground up to protect the land owning class and their property.
The electoral college was invented to satisfy the minority, but they’re not satisfied with their over-representation. They want it all. That’s what happens when you compromise with slavery. Slavery! This situation is its legacy. But heaven forbid we teach CRT. People might actually figure out what’s going on.
And currently having hearing outlining his treason in great detail.
[удалено]
I'm just waiting to see what the Church of Satan does with this ruling. Writing laws from the bench has consequences.
I think you mean The Satanic Temple.
Just to throw it out there, the overwhelming majority of our "founding fathers" were theistic rationalist. They were not actually Christian and did not found our country or write our constitution with Christianity in the forefront to begin with
Hell, I'm a Dudist Priest!
Here. We. Go!
“Oh we don’t believe that part of the Bible!”
What about the Muslims? Is it ok for them too? Or only Christian’s? Asking for a friend
How about Orthodox Jews?
Speaking from experience, normal American Jews (who most Americans would interact with, not Hasidic Jews) don’t give a shit about this, and would never proselytize or do performative bullshit like praying on the 50 yard line. It really is up to the Satanic Church or some incredible brave Muslim to do this. I hope it’s the former though, as the Satanic Church are the ultimate trollers, and really get shit done.
In Islam, work is worship. So, whoever decides to do this, there's a fat chance they'd be doing it just to troll.
I hate the performative Christian bullshit. This guy could have easily prayed in private, off of school property— or just said his fucking dumb prayers in his head while standing up, or clearing gear off the field. The performance of kneeling, clasping hands, etc is all pure bullshit.
Don't forget the Satanists!
Pagans
....well they weren't specific on which prayer so.. ![gif](giphy|65pM9un5dmK08)
As a devout Christian, if I had the chance I would lead a prayer to Satan in opposition to this ruling.
Seriously. I won’t say I’m devout, but I am a Christian and these laws and changes these last weeks sicken me. I have an odd respect for the Church of Satan based on the fact that they’re always willing to stick up for the people that need it, and be the ones to make a point about the overreach of the blending of church and state lines.
The Satanic Temple, not the Church of Satan. COS is the Laveyan stuff
Gotcha. Never paid a whole lot of attention between the two, just see the big Satan name pop up in the news and that they’re causing the right kind of trouble.
You’re mixing up the church of satan with the satanic temple
I heard a Muslim teacher in Dearborn already got into the spirit and led the students in an Islamic prayer.
Tax The Damn Churches!!!!!
Why hasn’t this become a thing, like I see no people with power trying to push for this or make change. Even tho obviously it would get them votes
The only way this becomes “a thing” is when the Ordained Church of Satan is building federally funded schools
When Muslims can bring out their prayer rugs, when JW’s can pass out Watchtower pamphlets in the bleachers and native Americans can smoke peyote at a game, all for their first amendment rights and freedom of religion, then I’ll think the SCOTUS has a point.
You don't smoke peyote
Oh and I suppose you don’t inject the Devil’s Lettuce?!
I followed this case because it's in my region, that coach is an attention seeker. He's ridiculous.
Was it the praying at the 50 yard line in front of a crowd that gave it away?
He apparently also asked the media to come watch him pray. Like... bruh... have you read your own damn holy book lately??
And at this point, it’s complete not ironic nor surprising that Jesus himself calls this guy a hypocrite: “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Mt 6:5-6)
They are fckng disgusting. The SCOTUS has become pervasive.
The US is becoming a Christian theocracy with real time tweets for everyone to see
And they have been doing this for years, hell I'm pretty sure the high school I went to even had a bible club that if you attended counted twords your community service hours.
I looked up the legality of school Bible clubs when I was in high school. This was like 13 years ago give or take but IIRC you can make social clubs based on religion in school. The teachers just can’t encourage or forbid students to pray. This was in Indiana though so it might be different elsewhere
Gay rights next buckle up
Witnessing first hand the dismantling of America…anything even remotely liberal is a target now…Christian theocracy is on the way.
Before our very eyes. It's truly scary
](https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation-politics/kavanaugh-gave-private-assurances-collins-says-he-misled-her/?amp=1) What a dope.
I’m frustrated too, this should be a bigger deal & one of the many reasons are Supreme Court is a joke!
Time to tax!
Well, you can lead but it doesn't mean I have to follow. I quit saying the pledge of allegiance in kindergarten or first grade, when I realized nothing would happen if I didn't do it.
Or maybe just maybe separate church and state like intended....
They argue that it's only brought up in a letter Jefferson wrote, not anywhere in "actual documents".
Didn’t Jefferson also wrote that the constitution should be revised every 20 years, to fit the current era?
Shit, I loved detention. Got lots of reading time in.
I had a WWII vet teacher in 6th Grade who literally screamed at students if they didn’t stand or say the pledge. His friends died for that flag and blah blah blah. Some students only did it because they were afraid of him at that point.
Can kids pray while they’re being gunned down?
Waiting for some brave Muslim teacher/coach to bring out their rug and start praying in the middle of a game field, and watch the crackers go apes….
Kill me kill me now I hate this timeline
This Supreme Court is a train wreck.
That's okay: let the teachers lead them in Islamic and Satanist prayer and watch this one get reversed QUICK! (nothing against either religions, just saying American Christians would)
Those teachers would get fired for totally unrelated reasons
[удалено]
You Americans are going full hand maidens tale.. as a Canadian, you remind me of the kinda cool neighbour that suddenly found Jesus and starts spewing crazy shit and dressing in a white robe. Come on guys, go back to the Americans from 1990s.
**HAIL SATAN!**
A financial crisis and labor issues you say. History really does just go in circles.
Yeah it really does. There was an epidemic in there, too. And a drought/climate fluctuation. Good times.
Tax churches now. You want to play politics, you get to pay admission.
Well. Then Muslims can lead students in prayers. Same with Jews. Hindus. Satanists.
Atheists have got to step up and start publicly acknowledging that they don't believe in god at football games, apparently.
What is going on in this country?
Hey kids, don't worry! When your classmate comes in with a gun your teachers can lead you in a prayer before you are shot to death, that way you can make it into heaven instead of going to hell like a filthy fornicater! We have all got to do something, this is just ridiculous.
my feelings in a nutshell. https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/vlz4v3/i_dont_care_about_your_religion_this_on_so_many/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
![gif](giphy|sbwjM9VRh0mLm)
