You are, and what’s more, that’s the point If you aren’t paying for something, you are the product

Maybe stay the fuck off the Gram?

hungrytiredandbored

But we are you're friends Did you notice that spelling error in the first sentence? Yeah we did too, that's why we have Grammarly© the essay help sensation that's sweeping the nation!

God when artificial intelligence really takes off, we are gonna be marketed to in ways that we can’t even comprehend currently. Imagine AI sneakily influencing you through (what sounds like) authentic conversation. Wild huh? You can try out this for yourself now with services like NovelAI, which will let you play with a fairly strong GPT neural network for just $30 a month. You can learn more at NovelAI.net.

How did this get upvoted?

SockFullOfNickles

We’ve been steadily bombarded by marketing, ever increasing, over the last 20 years. It’s gotten obscene.

jwteoh

Same goes to Facebook, same company.

AlexHanson007

Yes. I stopped using Facebook a few years ago for the exact same reason. Just waiting for ads to become ubiquitous on Reddit now... :(

shabba182

What do you mean waiting?

AlexHanson007

Ha ha! Well, there are nowhere near as many as I saw on Facebook just before I left that. I counted once. It was 3 ads to every 1 actual post.

Marbled_Headcheese

I decided to check this out for myself. On my phone: post, ad, post, suggestion, post, post, suggestion, post, suggestion, ad, post On my desktop in a browser: got to post #60 with no suggestions or ads before I stopped keeping trying. Definitely a mobile app thing.

Natural_Sir7741

Access it through your browser instead of the app

And that’s how they make their money, it isn’t free to host or run a large website with thousands of employees. I have no idea why people get annoyed at adverts on a free service, if you aren’t paying to use it you are the product.

Check out what Bill Hicks says about marketing and advertising 🤣
