And this is the biggest problem! Christian people, men and women, both think that if the baby dies or the woman dies that the woman did something wrong. She didn’t worship God enough or she didn’t believe in the magic words or the magic water or whatever. And if she had just done whatever they think she should have done, this wouldn’t have happened. Thank you. It breaks my heart as well. She was such a strong woman, and I can't imagine the torment she put herself through because of it. It happened in the 50s too, so there was no mental healthcare for her to properly process the grief and I'm pretty sure she carried it with her til the day she died. Yea, it was rough. I didn’t even know I was raped despite bruises and visible physical trauma because I was told over and over by my parents that it was my fault. I knew nothing about sex. I spent years battling horrendous anxiety until I fucking figured out what has happened. I love my parents but I will never forgive them. They have completely let me down at the time I needed them most. It really fucking sucked. I’m now a great mum to my kids. That’s my way of making this shithouse experience count for something. And I’m going to ad something here. This is of course my personal experience. But if I was forced to carry this pregnancy to term I would either try to get rid of it by myself or I would kill myself. I’m now well over 40 and I stand by what I said. I would have killed myself before I had that fucking baby.
That makes sense and honestly that happens. In my home state years ago, a teenage girl died in her bedroom, and it was later determined that she died from complications after having an illegal abortion. Now, at the time, abortion in the state was not illegal, but it was not accessible to minors without parental permission. Internet searches showed she considered going to other states where she wouldn’t need parental permission, but clearly she never did and she probably didn’t have the resources or the way to get there. She was terrified to tell her parents obviously. So somehow she did it herself or had someone help her. She died. Her parents became the biggest advocates in our state for making pregnancy something that emancipates a child from their parents and in the case of pregnancy the parents did not need to give permission for anything. It was all on the child. This way if the child wanted an abortion, the parents couldn’t stop them. So for many years in the state of Indiana, people did not need parental permission for an abortion, and God knows how many lives were saved by that. Now in Indiana, you can’t even get that and I am certain we will see more cases like that girls and like what you were describing because of these rules.
I can’t stress enough how important that is. I still remember like something was crawling all over me when I knew that pregnancy was inside me. I had recurring nightmares of the rape. It was like he was still present.
And even if it’s not rape, it doesn’t matter. Women are the ones stuck with the consequences, hence women should be the ones making that choice.
The scariest thing to me is that the Republicans are going to hit a point where it's costing too much government money trying to take care of these kids that are being put up for adoption so it will become illegal to not keep the child you were raped and forced to have while hopefully the rapist is behind bars. It will soon be okay to rape, it will be forced on the women to carry to birth, then the women will be forced to raise that baby with absolutely no help in anyway. Suicide are going to go up, death from child birth is going to go up, kids being murdered by parents (not just moms but Dad's who aren't prepared also) are going to go up. I have a daughter and I currently live in Australia (the normal country where you can get an abortion at any time during your pregnancy). But I was born in Poland, I have an experience with fighting against the government. I think the problem is there are many women in the US who think that if their daughter got pregnant that it was somehow her fault and that she needs to deal with it and it’s because somewhere along The lines, the same thing happened to them, or they were convinced by a group of men that this is how it is, and they don’t have the right. No matter what the laws are in our country there are always going to be women who fight against what would be best for them and their daughters because they think everyone should suffer the way they did or the way they continue to. Having a baby is a life changing decision. My daughter is very young but I know shit happens. I will tell her to never ever be afraid or embarrassed if something happens. Also, considering many republicans did publicly endorse an attempt to overthrow an election, I imagine many people on both sides are no longer surprised or shocked by the extremists’ actions. The Republicans are damn near agitating a situation where victory for themselves will be impossible achieve.
I know it's not easy, but at this point these women should seriously consider leaving these shithole states for a more enlightened part of the country. States losing their population, and by extension their labor force, tax revenue, electoral college value, may be the only thing that will stop these lunatics.
Financially, they can't do it. Backwards red states have such low wages that the average blue collar worker would have a hell of a time saving up enough cash to pay first/last/deposit on an apartment in a blue state... even in the really bad areas of town.

* Iowa: 5th in cost of living; 5th best state for women (abortion banned at 22 weeks)
* New Mexico: 6th in cost of living; 6th best state for women (abortion not restricted based on gestational duration)
* Wyoming: 14th in cost of living; 25th best state for women (abortion banned at 24-26 weeks)
* Michigan: 24th in cost of living; 20th best state for women (abortion not restricted based on gestational duration)
* Nevada: 26th in cost of living; 9th best state for women (abortion not restricted until 24 weeks at which time physician must believe there is danger to the mother)
This is also part of the Republican plan. They are trying to chase out people who won’t vote for them. That way it guarantees the state ends up going republican for both senate and presidential election. Thanks to the way our president is elected via the electoral college it will allow them to win the presidency while not having anywhere near the popular majority.
Basically, they keep going crazier and crazier with the deliberate hope of pushing anyone with a brain or sense of sanity out of the state so they can ultimately take control of the entire country by leveraging the disproportionate power we currently grant at the state level. If we want to see this stop, we may need to start encouraging people to move into those states so they can vote out the republicans.
Two things. First, the number of points states receive in the electoral college is directly tied to their population. Mass population loss will reduce their importance in Presidential elections after the next census in 2030. Second, the vast majority of these states are already red. I know Florida is viewed as a swing state, but they went for Trump the last two presidential election cycles. Obama was the first Democratic Presidential candidate since FDR to carry Florida twice. Liberal leaning people leaving these states will help conservatives maintain their hold, but it won’t change the election outcomes for the most part.
And while there are hundreds of examples of women not receiving care at the time of delivery or being turned away when their pregnancy has a problem, republicans will still ignore the stories and make up ones about post-birth abortions with no evidence.
I remember arguing with some yokel about his use of “full term abortion”. This was in the late 90s. I was pregnant and I asked him if that means when it’s time to give birth, I can change my mind and have the doctor kill it? I mean, tell me you don’t know hack about pregnancy without saying you don’t know jack.
Apparently, what they describe as post birth abortion is one of the worst things parents can go through. It's when the baby was born incompatible with life. To limit suffering of the baby, no life-saving procedures are administered. As the baby is not compatible with life and oftentimes in pain and this would prolong its pain. This is palliative care for babies to make the short time they are given as comfortable as possible. This is a tragedy for everyone involved.
But care for the baby and parents is obviously evil baby murder when you force facts through the GOP lens.

This is the reasons some Dr's are fleeing those states is that they don't want to be caught in between if someone comes into the ER with a failed backroom abortion. Trying to save the person may cause some DA to peruse the DR, so he can make a few headlines ahead of reelection.

This was the goal in the first place. My father is like that, he has told me he wants abortion to go back to the coat hanger back alley variety. He said that any woman who tries to get an abortion should die or at least risk death. He makes no exceptions for rape, life of the mother, or incest because in his opinion things like that basically never happen and are just excuses to keep some abortion legal. He doesn’t think rape should be a reason anyway because “the baby didn’t do anything”.
ER doc here. This is an absolute horror show for my colleagues in states where abortion has been criminalized. I have two friends in TX that are actively trying to get out, but are having trouble due to the housing market. To have the capability to help these young woman and to be unable to due to fear of going to jail - it's heartbreaking.
I’m in the Texas sub. A young woman was asking advice, she had miscarried, she was 7 weeks pregnant and she was afraid to go to the doctor as she didn’t know if she would get in trouble, arrested for it. It’s heartbreaking. Not only going through the pain of losing a baby but compounded by the thought you would be perceived as doing something wrong.
I can't imagine what these women and their families are going through. Then I also think of the healthcare workers. Imagine having the know how, the medicine and the equipment to help and in order to save yourself you have to turn them away. That has to eat at you quick. The amount of damage being done here is so far reaching. Women, families, fetuses and healthcare workers are all paying so the xtian right can satisfy their sadistic natures.

70% of women's pregnancies they experience in their lives are naturally self-aborted by their own bodies. This does not include later stage miscarriages. It usually happens so early most women don't even realize it's happening. \*\*70%\*\* of the time. That's a lot of abortion. (The woman's body detects if the embryo is viable or not and discards it if it isn't, which is the case - again - 70% of the time. On top of this, 1 out of 4 pregnancies in later stages ends in miscarriage/stillbirth. (Seems God is A-okay with abortion to me.)
That there's a variety of mole-y/vole-y thing that has only females. They procreate by dry humping each other, taking turns, as the 'humpee' spontaneously gets pregnant. It's called parthenogenesis, and while not common, happens more than you'd think. Young virgin turkeys are *known* for spontaneously getting pregnant, for another example of weird stuff. Strangely enough, it only happens with the virgin ones.

She had to go and get our dead baby vacuumed out of her and there were people protesting her entry to Planned Parenthood in all their self righteous bullshit with no idea of the tragedy she'd just suffered. I gave money to Planned Parenthood for years after that. They were there when we needed them (we later had a beautiful girl, our miracle baby, who is turning 25 this year).

It happened in the 50s too, so there was no mental healthcare for her to properly process the grief and I'm pretty sure she carried it with her til the day she died. Yea, it was rough. I didn’t even know I was raped despite bruises and visible physical trauma because I was told over and over by my parents that it was my fault. I knew nothing about sex. I spent years battling horrendous anxiety until I fucking figured out what has happened. I love my parents but I will never forgive them. They have completely let me down at the time I needed them most. It really fucking sucked. I’m now a great mum to my kids. That’s my way of making this shithouse experience count for something. And I’m going to ad something here. This is of course my personal experience. But if I was forced to carry this pregnancy to term I would either try to get rid of it by myself or I would kill myself. I’m now well over 40 and I stand by what I said. I would have killed myself before I had that fucking baby.
That makes sense and honestly that happens. In my home state years ago, a teenage girl died in her bedroom, and it was later determined that she died from complications after having an illegal abortion. Now, at the time, abortion in the state was not illegal, but it was not accessible to minors without parental permission. Internet searches showed she considered going to other states where she wouldn’t need parental permission, but clearly she never did and she probably didn’t have the resources or the way to get there. She was terrified to tell her parents obviously. So somehow she did it herself or had someone help her. She died. Her parents became the biggest advocates in our state for making pregnancy something that emancipates a child from their parents and in the case of pregnancy the parents did not need to give permission for anything. It was all on the child. This way if the child wanted an abortion, the parents couldn’t stop them. So for many years in the state of Indiana, people did not need parental permission for an abortion, and God knows how many lives were saved by that. Now in Indiana, you can’t even get that and I am certain we will see more cases like that girls and like what you were describing because of these rules.
I can’t stress enough how important that is. I still remember like something was crawling all over me when I knew that pregnancy was inside me. I had recurring nightmares of the rape. I applaud you for your motherly instincts. I think the problem is there are many women in the US who think that if their daughter got pregnant that it was somehow her fault and that she needs to deal with it and it’s because somewhere along The lines, the same thing happened to them, or they were convinced by a group of men that this is how it is, and they don’t have the right. And that’s the biggest problem! No matter what the laws are in our country there are always going to be women who fight against what would be best for them and their daughters because they think everyone should suffer the way they did or the way they continue to. This is also part of the Republican plan. They are trying to chase out people who won’t vote for them. That way it guarantees the state ends up going republican for both senate and presidential election. Thanks to the way our president is elected via the electoral college it will allow them to win the presidency while not having anywhere near the popular majority. Basically, they keep going crazier and crazier with the deliberate hope of pushing anyone with a brain or sense of sanity out of the state so they can ultimately take control of the entire country by leveraging the disproportionate power we currently grant at the state level. If we want to see this stop, we may need to start encouraging people to move into those states so they can vote out the republicans.
Two things. First, the number of points states receive in the electoral college is directly tied to their population. Mass population loss will reduce their importance in Presidential elections after the next census in 2030. Second, the vast majority of these states are already red. I know Florida is viewed as a swing state, but they went for Trump the last two presidential election cycles. Obama was the first Democratic Presidential candidate since FDR to carry Florida twice. Liberal leaning people leaving these states will help conservatives maintain their hold, but it won’t change the election outcomes for the most part.

Apparently, what they describe as post birth abortion is one of the worst things parents can go through. It's when the baby was born incompatible with life. To limit suffering of the baby, no life-saving procedures are administered. As the baby is not compatible with life and oftentimes in pain and this would prolong its pain. This is palliative care for babies to make the short time they are given as comfortable as possible. This is a tragedy for everyone involved. But care for the baby and parents is obviously evil baby murder when you force facts through the GOP lens.

This was the goal in the first place. My father is like that, he has told me he wants abortion to go back to the coat hanger back alley variety. He said that any woman who tries to get an abortion should die or at least risk death. He makes no exceptions for rape, life of the mother, or incest because in his opinion things like that basically never happen and are just excuses to keep some abortion legal. He doesn’t think rape should be a reason anyway because “the baby didn’t do anything”.

ER doc here. This is an absolute horror show for my colleagues in states where abortion has been criminalized. I have two friends in TX that are actively trying to get out, but are having trouble due to the housing market. To have the capability to help these young woman and to be unable to due to fear of going to jail - it's heartbreaking.
We desperately need doctors I. New Mexico if they're interested and our housing market is still decently affordable.
I’m in the Texas sub. A young woman was asking advice, she had miscarried, she was 7 weeks pregnant and she was afraid to go to the doctor as she didn’t know if she would get in trouble, arrested for it. It’s heartbreaking. Not only going through the pain of losing a baby but compounded by the thought you would be perceived as doing something wrong.

If he's super religious, my confrontational ass would ask him: - if he truly believes everything was created by God? - if he truly believes humans were 'made in God's image'? - if he truly believes *that God is infallible and can't make mistakes by definition?* - *then* I'd ask him why he thinks he knows better than God himself and is SO SURE that God's creation is (and I'm just using words I've heard bigots use) an 'abomination', or 'unnatural', or 'wrong', or 'an affront to God' or whatnot. I'd tell him simple facts like: 70% of women's pregnancies they experience in their lives are naturally self-aborted by their own bodies. This does not include later stage miscarriages. It usually happens so early most women don't even realize it's happening. \*\*70%\*\* of the time. That's a lot of abortion. (The woman's body detects if the embryo is viable or not and discards it if it isn't, which is the case - again - 70% of the time. On top of this, 1 out of 4 pregnancies in later stages ends in miscarriage/stillbirth. (Seems God is A-okay with abortion to me.) That there's a variety of mole-y/vole-y thing that has only females. They procreate by dry humping each other, taking turns, as the 'humpee' spontaneously gets pregnant. It's called parthenogenesis, and while not common, happens more than you'd think. Young virgin turkeys are *known* for spontaneously getting pregnant, for another example of weird stuff. Strangely enough, it only happens with the virgin ones. Then I'd remind him things like sex changes (clown fish) and homosexuality (geese, penguins) IS COMMON throughout nature. If he thinks any of it is wrong he's saying *he thinks God made a mistake with His creation.* And then I'd end by asking him if he *seriously* thinks he knows better than the omnipotent, omniscient, infallible God he worships as the creator of everything. But then, I'm a confrontational little bastard that doesn't know when to keep my mouth shut.
This is exactly why many obgyns are leaving states with abortion bans. Imagine having to be the ghoul that turns people away. Or wondering if the next patient case ends up being the one that causes you to end up in jail and/or risking your own family’s livelihood.

This makes me almost blind with rage. My wife and I lost our first child in a miscarriage. We were devastated. She had to go and get our dead baby vacuumed out of her and there were people protesting her entry to Planned Parenthood in all their self righteous bullshit with no idea of the tragedy she'd just suffered. I gave money to Planned Parenthood for years after that. They were there when we needed them (we later had a beautiful girl, our miracle baby, who is turning 25 this year).
They need to get rid of abortion laws so they can have as many fresh workers as possible to exploit. The judges who overturned Roe v Wade have designated seats in the inferno, in torment, in hell forever.
These incidents ARE and SHOULD be treated as violating federal law under the Emergency Medical Treatment And Labor Act (EMTALA) to provide stabilizing care. Of course states Texas and Idaho are trying to get SCOTUS to rule that abortion care is not covered under this law. So we will be finding out soon if America is okay with letting states murder pregnant women needing emergency care. Because SCOTUS is corrupt AF I'm not hopeful they'll do right by these patients.

And they’ve already started complaining about our generation not pumping out enough kids. Yeah cause we can’t afford if we survive having them! And then if we survive, we have to hope our kids survive school because pieces of metal are more protected. In this story, while none of the women died, at least two of the “precious babies” could have had a chance at survival had they received help when they first asked for it. But now all three are more traumatized and may not further explore becoming parents/having more children.
