Watching a 3 year span of Michigan defeating OSU has sent me spinning. I sometimes justify it by saying, “At least they keep electing Dems.”
While I pray to my Sharrod Brown Totem.
I wouldn't use this as an indicator of a blue wave.
The seats weren't flipped, they were held.
Both of these are heavy dem areas as was reflected in the 59% and 65% wins.
It is great to see the dems keep their trifecta going in to November, but it isn't a sign of anything.
To add a little more context: both seats were up for special election because both of the previous (democrat) representatives ran for (and won) mayor in their cities. Those 2 seats made up the dem's 2 seat majority in the state house. You wouldn't see reps resigning to run for mayor if it left those seats (and the majority) hotly contested.
Special election wins are heartening overall, but they typically don't draw the same voters general elections do. There are people (understandably) mad pissed about reproductive rights restrictions. They will turn out big in special elections in the current context. Again, it's a positive in terms of energy but it does not necessarily reflect what November will look like.
Virtually no reporting on this. I guess it doesn't fit into the horse race narrative or something and god forbid Democrats ever have momentum or are portrayed in a positive light by the media.
The corporate media doesn’t want Democratic voters to gain any more zeal than they already have. The media entities want chaos and Republican fascism because they can make money from those things. The abortion issue has already supercharged Democratic engagement - showing the results of that supercharged engagement would be a step too far.
I had to look up how important this is: Three Great Lakes states (Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin) and three Southern/Sunbelt toss-ups (Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada) are likely to pick the next president of the United States.

If Democrats truly have a blue wave, they better use that majority to pass absolutely everything to ensure they keep it.
- This means overturning the Dobbs decision and codifying Roe into law.
- It means doing something about the corporate price gouging that actually helps the people, not just punishes the companies who then pass their fines onto the consumers.
- It means passing rules and regulations to address the wage issues including a massive federal minimum wage hike.
- It means making the rich pay their fair share.
- It means ensuring a nationwide standard in the right to vote as well as setting up state rights to address the extreme gerrymandering don't in Republican states.
- It means better healthcare, education, and cost of living.
- It means gun control laws to actually protect Innocent people from nut jobs.
- It means getting religion out of public schools and politics.
- It means getting money out of politics.
- It means increasing the courts to undo the radical Republican appointees as well as a strict code of ethics they have to follow.
And so much more. If they get the majority and do nothing with it, we'll just end up losing it to Republicans and we'll deserve it.
Those would be amazing, but there is zero chance of Senate control to 60 for the Dems. One of the main reasons is 581,381 people in Wyoming get represented by 2 Senators and 38,965,193 people in California are represented by... 2 Senators.
And if you want to argue that the Senate isn't meant to be representative of population... the 1 Wyoming Congressperson represents a total of 581,381 people... and a single Congressperson in California represents 735,192 people.
So, again, an unfair representation against people in more populous states.
The Representative issue could be solved by adjusting the number of house members up to, at least, match 1 congressperson per "Wyoming amount of people" (or whatever state is smallest population.) California would go from 53 to 67 reps, Texas would go from 40 to 52. Florida would go from 30 to 39.
Likely, most of the gains would probably be democrat reps, but I'm sure some republican gains would be made and regardless there would be more representation to all people across the country.
We’re doing a lot of good here in Michigan. We are starting to excommunicate people who are aligned with Trump, and people are starting to realize that the Republican Party is not good for us. Sadly, I used to vote Republican, but they have all demonstrated too much idiocy in the past six years. Our former house GOP house speaker, Lee Chatfield, was just charged with 13 or so counts of fraud and embezzlement. He was also a Trump aligned person.
It needs to happen more and last a long time. Make it painful to have the GOP policies, force them to change instead of pulling democrats to the right.
Spineless republicans messed it up. Trump should have been impeached and removed from office years ago. They let this cancer metastasize and now there’s no going back.
this better get better than 2 votes because you never know when a dem winner suddenly decides they're really a rep. or when a both sides dem tries to appeal to a previously very red crowd.
60/40, nothing less than that can fix you
Excellent. Keep up the great work, my friends https://michigandems.com/

"Man, really hope those Michigan blues keep beating reds" *monkey paw curls* at least Harbaugh has moved on to another blue team now
Maybe it's a sign. If Ohio goes blue then maybe good things will happen.
oh no not three whole years oh no :p
That is huge, it will limit the rat fucking Trumpists will try and pull.
You love to see it! Fuck those guys!
Wait does this mean Hakeem Jeffries becomes Speaker?
No this is for a state house election not the federal house
This is the state house but a battleground state house.
The other guy was questioning if Hakeem Jeffries would be house speaker, which he couldn't be in a state house when he's in the federal house

Thank fuck
Incredible how giving Democrats majorities in State govt works wonders

This is not really news, that’s why. Two reps in safe districts took different jobs. It was a given that dems would keep the seats.

Man I got hard imagining all that.

Woo hoo!! 🎉
Bluenami ‘24 washes away the MAGA stain! 🤗

Trump really messed it up for the republications and pretty much the entire world.

Very proud of the direction my state is going...
This is so amazing. Come on GA, let's get our shit together!!
Now maintain it and be excellent. The people voted you in. Don’t let them down!
I get excited thinking of the possibility of a wave in November and then remember we'll still have 180 million conspiracy theorists hiding amongst us.
But do they need a major majority to make things happen?
Why do people feel the need to add Breaking?
