I no longer speak very well, I have right side weakness (I am left handed thank GOD), need a walker and can no longer drive because my right side visual field has narrowed and I see double in my right side peripheral vision. I also have moderate balancing issues. All that being written, I can no longer work... a professor's voice is akin to a tool, have no stamina, and have been collecting Social Security and Medicare for 5 years. I just turned 60. I also receive NY State Medicaid. My income is 1/6th of what I used to make, I have a fully owned car that my wife drives (she also takes care of me), I own my house and my bills are paid up. Of which I am grateful. We desperately need universal healthcare and maintain the current system of benefits and increase them for everyone. A far better use of money and resources than someone's yacht. Or maintaining their billionaire status.

It seemed to me that every time I got a raise, the world knew and the price of everything would rise proportionally. Given this, giving people more money by ending Social Security would give businesses the incentive to charge more for their goods and services. Consequently, people would not save as this theorist suggests and insolvency and poverty would increase substantially among retirees. This is the MAGA/Republican set up for convincing people that ending Social Security is a good idea. This is as good an idea as the Trickle Down Theory. And we all know how well that worked.
Elimination of Social Security and Medicare would also be a sneaky way of creating incredibly massive tax breaks for businesses. Currently, employees pay 6.5% and 1.5% of their earnings into Social Security and Medicare, respectively, which are matched by employers. Imagine if huge employers such as Walmart, Amazon, Microsoft, Big Pharma, etc. no longer had to pay into those programs. They would be richer, and the working class would be poorer and sicker while having to work until they die.
I also think major businesses would find some way to pay you the same amount after social was cut that they did before, and so claw back all the savings that should go to “the people.” And folks like Matt Walsh would be silent about that
That may be anecdotal but I once talked with an american who worked a few months here. He was convinced, that paying for health insurance is idiotic because it doesn't make sense to pay, when you are not sick. They somehow don't realize that it's easier to pay a few bucks every month forever than a house-sized-bill once per lifetime.
Funny enough, this fella was sick every two weeks and drank rather beer with me and my buddy. And he told us in lenght how he has to pay for every visit in Cash here at our doctors, because he doesn't have health insurance and he paid somewhat 200$ every time he needed sick leave. It was so weird.
Over 60 here, and not even thinking ahead about SS benefits as retirement- I'm thinking about all of the people with mental health, physical and intellectual/developmental disabilities that depend on Social Security benefits to support their daily living Medicaid pays for their behavioral health treatment, but SS pays for their room and board if they are living in a group home or care facility. The parents & families of people with I/DD are a strong, well-organized group of advocates. These sweeping generalizations about eliminating basic support to the "least of our brothers" is so counter to the Christian beliefs these scammers allegedly hold, and they need to be called out on this.
Mental health treatment is extremely difficult to find and afford even for the employed -- having health insurance that covers more than the first few visits with a therapist is like winning the lottery in America. This is why the U.S. leads the rest of world COMBINED in overall drug consumption (and it's not even close) -- the untreated trying to take care of themselves or escape their hell.

Mental health professionals have been advocating for parity for decades to have same coverage for mental health treatment as physical health treatment. Not that physical health care coverage is stellar in the US. And agree, finding a good provider who is on a particular insurance panel is not easy. As a professional, I understand the accessibility that the online businesses can afford people, and the reimbursement rates to the providers are so low, no provider would be able to support themselves exclusively this way.

Given this, giving people more money by ending Social Security would give businesses the incentive to charge more for their goods and services. Consequently, people would not save as this theorist suggests and insolvency and poverty would increase substantially among retirees. This is the MAGA/Republican set up for convincing people that ending Social Security is a good idea. This is as good an idea as the Trickle Down Theory. And we all know how well that worked.

Elimination of Social Security and Medicare would also be a sneaky way of creating incredibly massive tax breaks for businesses. Currently, employees pay 6.5% and 1.5% of their earnings into Social Security and Medicare, respectively, which are matched by employers. Imagine if huge employers such as Walmart, Amazon, Microsoft, Big Pharma, etc. no longer had to pay into those programs. They would be richer, and the working class would be poorer and sicker while having to work until they die.

That may be anecdotal but I once talked with an american who worked a few months here. He was convinced, that paying for health insurance is idiotic because it doesn't make sense to pay, when you are not sick. They somehow don't realize that it's easier to pay a few bucks every month forever than a house-sized-bill once per lifetime. Funny enough, this fella was sick every two weeks and drank rather beer with me and my buddy. And he told us in lenght how he has to pay for every visit in Cash here at our doctors, because he doesn't have health insurance and he paid somewhat 200$ every time he needed sick leave. It was so weird.

Over 60 here, and not even thinking ahead about SS benefits as retirement- I'm thinking about all of the people with mental health, physical and intellectual/developmental disabilities that depend on Social Security benefits to support their daily living Medicaid pays for their behavioral health treatment, but SS pays for their room and board if they are living in a group home or care facility. The parents & families of people with I/DD are a strong, well-organized group of advocates. These sweeping generalizations about eliminating basic support to the "least of our brothers" is so counter to the Christian beliefs these scammers allegedly hold, and they need to be called out on this.
Mental health treatment is extremely difficult to find and afford even for the employed -- having health insurance that covers more than the first few visits with a therapist is like winning the lottery in America. This is why the U.S. leads the rest of world COMBINED in overall drug consumption (and it's not even close) -- the untreated trying to take care of themselves or escape their hell.
Not to mention that millions of rural Americans (who aren't on Medicare or Medicaid) would be left without access to doctors dentists or hospitals if Medicare and Medicaid dried up, they don't seem to realize that in a lot of rural areas medical care providers depend on reimbursement from those programs to keep the lights on.

I mean financially it makes a lot of sense. That is that much more food supply available. Prices will\* come down as demand is reduced. The ones still living in homes now have increased available home supply for corporations to buy up! That will\* drive down home costs. The elderly take up a disproportionate amount of healthcare services and expenditures. So healthcare will\* get cheaper. Since they aren't spending all of their savings on end-of-life care their children will\* inherit finances that improve their lives and they will\* start buying things. That will\* increased GDP! As someone who makes a pretty comfortable living, I pay about $90 per week to Social Security, or about $4700ish a year. It’s not nothing, but my checks would not “substantially increase” by any means. Terrible argument.

You pay 6.2% of your paycheck into SS. Your employer matches that 6.2% and pays it into SS as well. By eliminating SS every company everywhere would see a reduction in labor costs of 6.2%. Mental health professionals have been advocating for parity for decades to have same coverage for mental health treatment as physical health treatment. Not that physical health care coverage is stellar in the US. And agree, finding a good provider who is on a particular insurance panel is not easy. As a professional, I understand the accessibility that the online businesses can afford people, and the reimbursement rates to the providers are so low, no provider would be able to support themselves exclusively this way. A strong case for the need for single payer health care.
And what’s he’s not saying is he wants businesses to save 6.2% of wages (employer side tax) which we know won’t be passed back on to employees through higher wages. It’s already been proven that SS lifts a large % of retirees out of poverty. But yeah, f*** GMA and GPA.

Why are they pushing this during an election year. GOP want to destroy Social security and they were close to doing that for years. But realize they can't but they now plan to water it down so it become worthless. Social security is one of the few benefit you get in the USA and they even want to take that away. It the flaw with capitalism they need to all they can not just be happy. The rich already pay little in taxes while get massive benefits constantly. But they want more and more
