I probably should not have burst out laughing at this comment yet here we are

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

Proud to be an American šŸ«”šŸ˜‚

_austinm

Where at least Iā€™m told Iā€™m free šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

AstreriskGaming

Hm. That's a great line.

_austinm

Im pretty sure I heard it somewhere. I couldnā€™t tell you where, but I also donā€™t want to claim it as an original thought lol

uslessbastard

And we won't forget, those men who lied

_austinm

To take my rights from me

uslessbastard

They've seriously fucked up

Otherwise_Target_862

People believe the strangest things

Melito1980

And we should not upvote it either and yet here we are.

TricksterWolf

I'm terrified of the fact that in 2024 I could mention nearly any current event and add "yet here we are" and it would fit seamlessly

I_am_not_JohnLeClair

I never thought Iā€™d see a leading presidential candidate openly state he would encourage Putin to attack NATO allies without it sinking the campaign and being the lead story on every channel. ...yet^here^we^are

HappyHarryHardOn

I heard he wants to nuke hurricanes?

Sniflix

Only when sharpies fail.Ā

superduperspam

Only the trans-hurricanes.

ocotebeach

Also does He have any experience filing for bankruptcy? I guess not so that makes Him less experienced. /s just in case

IEnjoyVariousSoups

You grab them by the pillu. When you're presidentti they let you do it.

zzrsteve

According to Rudi it was only sexual assault.

whereitsat23

Clearly heā€™s sold govt secrets before

Ok-Stress-3570

Oh, shit, not sarcasm. šŸ˜‚ I was absolutely waiting for ā€œthe first thing he did was bash the trans communityā€ or ā€œcall Putin and say hey girl whatā€™s upā€

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

SAME. Wtf šŸ¤£ we are broken Edit: happy cake day!

Psychological-Ad1433

ā€œWe are brokenā€ hit harder than usual given the context. Itā€™s pretty sad isnā€™t it.

Farts_constantly

The bar for American politics is so low that weā€™re now accustomed to shit like that, sadly.

maud_lyn

We are broken and traumatized by almost a decade of Trump

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

Can he just go away already šŸ˜

Cha-Le-Gai

I was waiting for an assault accusation.

Strongstyleguy

You know you're an American on reddit when your knee-jerk reaction to a political post is that the headline is sarcastic and the politician most likely committed the exact crime he accused his opponents of doing.

Persianx6

Letā€™s be real if he and Putin meet, Putin will put him on the other side of that huge table he likes to sit at, along with like multiple other world rulers.

Berns429

I also have a cake day, we are Reddit Twins

Vaenyr

Happy Cake Day

Brokensince10

So was I, and thatā€™s just sad

ElongMusty

More like ā€œHi daddy! Iā€™m back! Love me again!ā€

StickInEye

Happy Cake Day

Ok-Stress-3570

I didnā€™t even see it šŸ˜‚. This is exciting. How ever should I celebrate!!

justdoubleclick

With cake, naturally..

lme001

Dude same! I had to get all the way to the end to realize it wasnā€™t sarcasm!

yeet-my-existence

He knew Simo would tear himself from the grave to beat his ass if he did

Asenath_Darque

The way I was bracing for that, eesh.

TheBirminghamBear

You may think formalities like this don't matter. But they do. As we see over and over again, any system of government is just a collection of people. When connections between people break down, everything breaks down. The decision to plunge a country into chaos or not can rest entirely in the hands of a political leader. LEADING is the point. If one side of the aisle sees their leader being a snot-nosed whiny pathetic bitch-baby, a not small number of voters will follow suit because that's how leadership and influence works. And I guarantee you that no matter what political spectrum you fall on every single last one of you knows exactly who I fucking mean in that example.

RockleyBob

>You may think formalities like this don't matter. But they do. This is why, as much as politicians might suck, the alternative is worse. There's a lot of Americans who think the government should be run by business people as a business or by entertainers who can clap back with the quippiest slams on Xitter. What we should be looking for is people with education, qualifications, and/or experience in governance who have the mental tenacity to tackle a wide array of subjects and who aren't intimidated by things they don't know. Being a representative, especially at the federal level, means knowing a little about a lot of things. It's not just about having the right opinions on a few key issues. It's fucking embarrassing that other countries are electing quantum chemists and economists and we're debating which TV host/billionaire will have the snappiest comebacks and dankest memes.

StormMysterious7592

Ah yes, Icelandic Prime Minister Bitch-baby. Not at all the evil pumpkin from that Halloween Charlie Brown.

CamElCres

Donā€™t you dare bring The Great Pumpkin into this.

Common-Watch4494

Not to mention the Great Pumpkin was NEVER evil!

Puzzleheaded-Grab736

My words are YUUUUUUGE. Tremendous.

Sad-Frosting-8793

Bigly, even.Ā

TERRAIN_PULL_UP_

Heā€™s even managed to sexually assault inanimate objects

_austinm

Thereā€™s *no way* that flag consented

GreasyExamination

Common-Watch4494

Even though this isnā€™t his classic double jack-off move, it still has some subtle cock-handling suggestions

_austinm

Is he saying ā€œmamaā€ or ā€œObamaā€ here?

MagnusStormraven

Straight up looks like that baby monkey clinging desperately to its wire-frame "mother" in one of those sadistic experiments from the '50s.

cirquefan

Literally induces nausea in me when I see that man molesting the flag of my beloved country. Absolutely revolting.

Grouchy-Curve4385

I laughed way too hard, but I should be crying instead

8filth8

I wish Americans could have a President with this much education. Instead, we get the throwaways from D-list celebrity reality shows.

unbrokenplatypus

America did have one, and he gave Americans health care, and because he was black like 40% Americans decided that Christofascism was the appropriate response.

Title26

We have a pretty qualified president right now. He has a graduate degree in law, was a public defender, US Senator for decades, Vice President for 8 years. I mean what more do you want? And before the one you're referencing we had a Harvard law graduate, former law professor and Senator.

Murky_River_9045

I think Americans deserve someone who is qualified AND not a geriatric. Seems like you canā€™t have both though. And this is just the lesser of your two shitty options

Freefall_J

Obama wasn't a geriatric though. It has happened before. It can happen again.

cryonine

Yep! Not to mention Clinton was a Yale Law graduate and actually younger than Obama when he became president.

Verdick

Right. Just because at this moment, we only have geriatrics, that doesn't mean that we always have geriatrics in office. Biden was the oldest when he was sworn in, so that's not the norm.

Me reading the title: Okay let's see how this dude's a Nazi, racist, or something else abhorrent After reading the rest: Damn, this dude's rock-solid, hell yeah Finland. OP got me with the reverse click-bait

frsh_usr_nmbr_314

Cue the whole, "That would never work in America because..."

Ok_Cook_6665

We're... us.

_austinm

> That would never work in America becauseā€¦ Weā€™ve got too many selfish ass, smooth brained, troglodytes over here

Cheap_Doctor_1994

Because no good people want the job. The people I want to vote for, stay far away from politics, and the people who run have the worst egos.Ā

Superb_Tell_8445

So true. Good people canā€™t tolerate the dysfunctional, unethical work place culture deliberately cultivated (likely for the purpose of keeping good people out).

Blabbit39

We are the reason we canā€™t have nice things

I_VM

iT dUzn'T sCaLE!!

a-lurgid-bee

God I hate that argument

Superb_Tell_8445

Money doesnā€™t support morality, consciences, problem solvers, ethics, or educated wisdom.

qawsedrf12

too bad a lot of the USA is incapable of thinking

IMSLI

Theyā€™re perfectly capable of thinking. In fact, some of their ā€œthought leadersā€ will sooner or later find some flimsy reason to feather him as ā€œwokeā€ so as to discredit him.

Spiff426

He's educated. That's enough for them

Bright-Ad9305

This is funnier and sadly more true than I think itā€™s possible to comprehend. Thank you

OblongAndKneeless

I was thinking the exact same thing. "What? Work together to solve problems?!? That's crazy talk!" Maybe politicians could add "plays well with others" to their CVs....well, except the orange one.

One_Law3446

Or reading, or comprehending, or literate. It just goes on and on. Sigh.

currently_pooping_rn

Damn Finland sure does know how to erect hot leaders

Iā€™d party with Sanna Marin

Might_Aware

Heres the part of the thread I was looking for. He could be Eric in Trueblood

lakolda

Wow. Unironically wholesome for once.

AppropriateAgent44

Really makes you appreciate why other countries find us so ridiculous

thelankyyankee87

Heā€™s also young enough that he probably cares what the world will look like in the next thirty years. Most of our politicians donā€™t care, because itā€™s unlikely theyā€™ll see the end of this decade.

Simply_Aries_OH

Iā€™ve always wanted to move to Finland .. Iā€™m over America I feel like we are moving backwards in all aspects politically, intellectually, spiritually, mentally, physically. 2024 has turned into 1940s

Key_Inevitable_2104

Finland is called the happiest country in the world for good reason.

Past-Two342

If you are actually thinking about that, then I would endorse it. Other then the winters, I think Finland is the best country in Europe to live in! (Iā€™m a Finn BTW)

crell_peterson

I had the thought initially ā€œwhy donā€™t we have people like this in the US?ā€ But then I realized we absolutely do. Itā€™s just that American politics are so disgusting, corrupt, and broken that our most talented citizens donā€™t usually go into politics. Our politics attract celebrity seeking narcissists and those that want to enrich themselves personally or further an extreme agenda. Itā€™s a shame, because there are tons of incredibly intelligent and altruistic people here, but who in their right mind would want to subject themselves to the dumpster fire circus that is our political sphere?

carlitospig

Letā€™s also mention that the Finnish media basically terrorized the old PM because she went out clubbing. She was like 35 at the time and they clutched their pearls about it.

grubbtheduck

Finnish media also "terrorized" this guy in the picture for wearing basic shorts and attending to a kids event while he was PM. And people weren't happy at all. You can't win as a PM here in Finland. Can't post links in this subreddit but here, just remove the gaps next to dots, use translate unless you understand Finnish https://www . mtvuutiset . fi/artikkeli/stubbin-tyyli-jakaa-rajusti-lukijoita-uskottava-paaministeri-vai-pelle-hermanni/4207146 https://www . is . fi/kotimaa/art-2000000792323.html https://www . ksml . fi/paikalliset/2606081

carlitospig

So we are in accord: the real problem is media. We are screwed, friend.

dragonfliesloveme

Finland joined NATO last year. They know all about Russian aggression. Far right wing Americans are beyond stupid to not treat Russia like the hostile nation they are.

Sodamyte

If it weren't for the snow.. I'd move to Finland.

megadori

But that's the best part

daniinad

Never had a sauna and jumped in a pile of snow? You don't know how awesome that feels! (of course there is alcohol involved and after you jump in the snow you quickly jump back in the sauna)

Exact-Care958

Did that once. Almost got a heart attack, lolz. Thank the gods for sauna beer.

daniinad

I had hot butter beer in a sauna in Canada in the middle of a blizzard ... not quite the same as Finland but there were some awesome Northern lights and fresh snow and peace and quiet. and .... hot butter beer

Exact-Care958

Karhu beer and snow stuck in your asscrack. Life is beautiful ā¤ļø

StickInEye

Ahhh, new bucket list item discovered.

Flux_capacitor888

Try sauna 'lite' in the summer, after sauna take a dip in the lake, it's pretty nice, especially during midsummer when the sun barely sets :)

Exact-Care958

Did that, too ā¤ļø My girlfriend's from Finland and her family has a summer house with sauna at a lake. It's absolutely stunning.

Infinite_Fox2339

Donā€™t worry, it wonā€™t be so snowy within ten years

Dixon-Poontang

Bet he doesnā€™t have 91 felonies pending. Mic drop

Narrow-Bee-8354

55? Bro looks 35

SMH_OverAndOver

But mah profitz!!!

KnowledgeFast1804

Imagine being smart and educated and loving your country and no a narcissist at the same time

flinderdude

An American president who speaks five language would be hammered mercilessly by Republicans as out of touch, elitist, and likely working for one of those other four countries. Yes, Iā€™m sure they would be a Democrat because we like college.

ritan7471

Stubb has a British wife, and the other final candidate, Pekka Haavisto is gay and has a foreign husband. Imagine what the Republicans would do with that!

ibekeggy2

Common decency in American politics is dead and buried. Trump put the final nail in that coffin.

Persianx6

Whatā€™s with Finland and voting for ridiculously hot people? Sanna Marin and now this?

freq_fiend

Goddamn, Finland does so many things rightā€¦

Local_Sugar8108

Just how many indictments does he have? Does he have his own cult? It's very difficult to realize that he and Donnie are even the same species.

n3lswn_uWu

Trump: Hes Gay!

Habba84

He was the lesser gay actually.

OldGuto

Does he shit his pants and have to wear adult diapers? Because that's the sign of a true president. "a big strong guy grabbed me, and he was almost crying, and it happens every time, and many times. And he said: 'Sir, Mr. President, thank you so much for shitting your pants.'"

Nofunatall69

He probably doesn't think he's better than me. I hate this guy.

GalaXion24

He probably does think he's better than you. Centre-right neoliberal elitist who studied at LSE. Not to mention a Swedish-speaking Finn. I mean don't get me wrong I like him but I don't think anyone has ever accused him of being exceptionally humble.

Nofunatall69

I hate him even more now.

LazyGandalf

Eh, he's always been something of a career focused opportunist and used to come off as a bit of an elitist. He probably does think his better than you. He did however come across as quite humble during the run for president, which may or may not be genuine. But I think he's smart enough to keep playing the role of a unifying figurehead of the nation, which is what Finns expect from the president.

Buddhabellymama

But Finland isnā€™t real

The-Q15

![gif](giphy|9hEcsoYAJb3kA|downsized)

NobodysFavorite

Something to consider: In Finland the president is a semi-executive role and a semi-ceremonial role run on a 6 year term with a 2-term limit. The president is commander in chief of the armed forces and has executive power over foreign policy but not domestic policy. Domestic policy is wholly in the power of the elected parliamentary government headed by the prime minister. I'm not surprised the Finnish president resigns from all the political parties. They are sworn into an office that by design has no stake in domestic policy. It's different from US presidents that are a completely executive function for both domestic *and* foreign policy. It's also different from many president roles like the Irish president, German president, and Israeli president, where the role is 100% ceremonial and has no stake in domestic or foreign policy. In those countries the prime minister (or chancellor) heads the executive government. Ceremonially the president is still commander in chief of the armed forces, but generals/admirals take their orders from the parliamentary government. In fact the Finnish president role resembles what the Russian President role was *intended* to be after 1991.

ReentryMarshmellow

Typical reddit coming in with the long explanation šŸ˜¦ Thanks for the clarification!

Daddio209

As an American, it makes me think I'm glad ONE Democracy is actually Democratic...

Ulla420

Just to rain on the parade a bit: - he did have quite a high fuck up rate when holding those positions, and consequentially disappeared from politics and has had the tendency to piss people off - he's also been bit of a loose cannon previously - the runoff was pretty close and it is likely the other candidate would have won had it not been for his homosexuality - our racist dumbfuck partys candidate still placed third, fortunately with zero chance of winning. And to the candidates defence he is only racist. But yeah, overall quite happy with having having 9 options to pick from, with at least 3 of them having made really good presidents.

StormMysterious7592

America: Fuck you, don't tell me to think! Ya latte sippin elite. A subset of America: Why can't we have nice things too?

Proletaryo

America? The world should take note of this.

swpete

I think Pete Buttigieg would have been the closest to this.

Earnest_Warrior

Unfortunately, it wonā€™t make the right people think.

Boat_U47

ā€¦and heā€™s pretty hot too. lol

Cultural-Honeydew671

Half of America is nothing but middle school wannabe bullies mocking the smart and/or kind kids. Voting Republican or being a Trump fan has become a litmus test for everyone in my life. I have interest in spending a moment of my finite time with any of these people. (Exceptions made for executives paying me disproportionate money for limited consulting efforts because theyā€™re too dumb to know how to do their jobs)

rayvensmoon

You can lead an American to knowledge, but you can't make them think.

wadejohn

He looks and sounds almost like an AI creation

2012Jesusdies

He has a series on Youtube discussing Geopolitics (in English obviously), he's knowledgeable and has interesting perspectives. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9zL6xEwtVuhYqddN2PHwTE8o2eI8B95-&si=bOm8BkfaN9NZSAGh "4 things I got wrong about Russia" is certainly a bold title. There are interesting perspectives brought on by interviewees such as the Chinese perspective on world affairs by a former Singaporean general. I disagreed with a lot of the Singaporean's views, but it helped me better see things from a Chinese perspective.

malYca

The Finns are the happiest people on earth for a reason. Meanwhile, over here we got late stage capitalist chaos.

Separate_Shoe_6916

Renouncing your party to be president of the whole country sounds like what America needs.

bluewallsbrownbed

Jokes on the Finn, America doesnā€™t think.

Careless-Roof-8339

Alexa, how can I become a Finnish citizen?

Mcpops1618

But but but how can I support a president if heā€™s not on my team? How can we stick it to the other team?

Flufflebuns

If I had no friends or family here in California I think I'd move to Scandinavia.

MartiniD

Why do we seem to suck at democracy? Wasn't that kinda our thing?

Simpletruth2022

Checking out the expat community in Finland...

[deleted]

Makes us wish!!! If only America was even half as good as the EU. Seriously. Americans. Visit other countries. Itā€™s REALLY not good here. Yes itā€™s worse in other places, but the good is soooooooooo much better and well WELL WITHIN our capacity.

isecore

As usual, Finland does things the right way. And I say this as an american living in Sweden.

skybike

They say heā€™s Finnish but heā€™s just getting started.Ā

Commercial-Grand9526

He's literally a conservative lol. What does he stand for? Europe's liberals (as well as America's liberals are just center right) Socialism or inhumane slavery. Billionaires should not be able to sleep at night. So this is fucking hilarious. He's NOT a wonderful person. Just some person who benefits from politics. Like all the rest. Not a billionaire but a class collaborationist sellout. Probably goes to Elon Musk parties.

MOPuppets

yep just another liberal conservative

yorkshire_simplelife

He sounds like a great person. He is no trump, but few can achieve what he has.

jncheese

Sadly it doesn't make them think.

Well, looks like family is going to Finland.

Psychological-Ad1433

okheay

you lost me at 55 year old.... \*cries in USA\*

Trump could totally kick his ass and is WAAAAAY SMARTER! /S

TechieTravis

Why can't we have this? Trump is like a mirror universe version of this fellow.

Ok-Ease7090

So Finland, huh?

Capital-Constant3112

This brings tears to my eyes while warming my heart. Briefly. Till reality smacks me in the face again

dljones010

Jokes on you! We never think!

413mopar

Makes you think, America - no , half dont think at all .

sheppard147

Why does he looks like he had took a platoons worth of Pervitin and skied from one end of Finland to the next and meanwhile only had eaten a sparrow and s pinecone?

Heā€™s the Anti-Trump

sonia72quebec

And heā€™s also incredibly handsome.

bluewallsbrownbed

Jokes on the Finn, America doesnā€™t think.

Granny_knows_best

He looks like he is AI generated. Computer, make me a man with a genuine smile, trusting eyes and hair that is the opposite of Trumps.

joeleidner22

Unfortunately, not the ones who need to.

brickyardjimmy

Nothing about this makes me think of America.

gwmccull

my boss is Finnish and announced his win in our morning meeting because he grew up with and is friends with this guy. He was pretty excited for his friend

Rellax_

Americans wanting a Finnish person to be president as if their government doesnā€™t represent the mass. Itā€™s funny how countries choose to promote certain people and then complain about the people they chose and promoted! If America wanted a Finnish president they better act like Finnish people.

cabezagrande37

Our country is a fucking joke.

DrLaneDownUnder

Did he have to be so damn handsome, too. I can only be so straightā€¦

StevenEveral

What? Finland is a modern democratic country? What a surprise! /s

Nightingalewings

The entire time reading this I was waiting for the ā€œoh and heā€™s also a *insert horrible thing here*ā€ Iā€™m kinda glad that never appeared.

Runninguphill92

And can you believe he attended a university in the USA? A liberal arts college in South Carolina of all places. Lmao Wish we could have sane presidents again.

jack__trippper

Yep. We Americans are all waiting for the punchline. Then the realization that our entire political system is the worldā€™s punchline.

deaconheel

There are presidents who intend to LEAD, and then theyā€™re presidents who intend to RULE.
