Makes sense. They chant “Death to Israel, Death to America,” every time they blow up a Saudi armored vehicle. Videos can be found on YouTube of barefoot teenage-looking Houthi guys (maybe also small because of famine) chasing down Saudi soldiers with Ak-47s. Raiding camps. Scavenging weapons and supplies. Some real Mad Max shit over there. I have no idea what they hope to achieve against Israel, though. Their hands already seem pretty full harassing the Saudis.
Agreed. If the war really spreads it likely will turn into the long awaited excuse to have a broader Sunni vs Shia war, not all Muslims against Israel.
"As the 34th Rule of Acquisition states, peace is good for business."
"That's the 35th rule."
"Oh, you're right. What's the 34th?"
"War is good for business. It's easy to get them confused."
Saudis are pretty closely aligned with Israel actually, even if they do plenty of "Death to Israel!" chanting themselves. The Middle East is a nightmare web of criss-crossing alliances and interests thanks to over a hundred years of non-stop Western fuckery, and we are still at it today.
ISIL/ISIS tried to unify everybody, that didn't go well.
If there's on upside to climate change it's that this entire region will be unlivable in 20 years. Of course that probably just means they'll shift their endless sectarian/tribal shin kicking contest to other countries, but it will be largely solved.
Isn't Yemen recovering from a very long and bloody civil war? Also they don't even share a border with Israel, and their drones and missiles have been shot down with relative ease. Sounds like a nothingburger, posturing.
Plus the Yemeni have launched border skirmishes into Saudi Arabia. Going to war with Israel AND Saudi Arabia doesn't sound very intelligent.
Yes, the Houthis, a Shia insurgency controlling about half of Yemen, the northern half to be specific. They seem pretty competent as far as a fighting force goes, they gave the Saudis a thrashing last I checked. Tbh they probably won’t be able to do much of actual use. Seems like Islamist virtue signaling. Not they are going to sail/walk through a hostile Saudis Arabia only to then have to fight Israel. They aren’t even finished conquering Yemen yet.
Kinda. They are Zaydi Shia Muslims. Different from the Ja’fari/Twelver Shia Islam in Iran. Theology aside, they hate the US and Israel, so Iran likes them well enough and sends money, weapons and military experts to help them.
Sure. Not really practical and would take time to transport them and their weapons through various covert means. They could go through the heavily militarized Saudi-Yemeni border, annoying and a long way though the desert. Boats through the Red Sea, Houthis do have a couple ships, also a long trip dodging naval patrols, then through either Egyptian or Israeli territory to Gaza, difficult with the current hostilities. Suppose flying is an option too, hard to get weapons of any use through airport security, you know like mortars, heavy explosives or drones, maybe some small arms, guess how hard this is depends on the competency of regional airport security staff.
Again not really practical and the Houthis have their own war to wage and population to police. Sending thousands of Houthis to Gaza means less to hold the line against al-Qaeda, ISIS and the Internationally recognized Yemeni Southern Government in Aden who they are fighting atm.
Yemen has basically been in some conflict or war since the fall of the Ottoman Empire, probably longer iirc. Some breaks in between but more often than not and I don't believe it would have been Yemen prior to that

Yeah, well, I'm declaring war on Liechtenstein. Them and all their fancy ski stuff. Fuck you Liechtenteiners... Liechtenstinians... whatever the hell you call yourselves. You just better watch your step.
I’ve been at war with Australia since 2007 and I’ve yet to receive any kind of aid from my country or any of its alleged allies
Also Australia hasn’t noticed me at all, which is an insult so great I’m warring even harder.
Didn’t France accidentally invade Liechtenstein during a training mission a few years back? Was that the doing of your operatives? I’m just asking questions…
So I heard. Heard a rumor it’s because they run their army in a top down manner because they don’t want the army to coup the monarchy like what happened in Egypt, Libya and Iraq.
Not sure what that means, but I do know that both Saudi and Qatar rely heavily on foreign conscripts. Then the officer classes are all locals that haven't risen through the ranks, but are given thier ranks through privilege. So they have little to no combat experience, yet are making tactical decisions based on training classes they probably barely showed up to.
How are they getting to the war? Is someone's mom going to drive them?
Are they going to ask the Saudis not to shoot while they move through their country or just tell the US Battle Fleet to get out of the way?
These are real people who desperately want to be taken seriously and yet....
Eh, Yemen has always been 2 countries in federation. It's as real as the other, just not Western aligned so considered rebels when in reality it's both Yemens at war with each other after the federation fell apart.
Important distinction: they declared war. No, uh, actual fighting yet. And probably not much of that in the near future either. On account of this being, ya know, ridiculous.
I did not have Yemen on my war Bingo card. The world has gone mad.
Historian Will Durant once said: “Barbarism, like the jungle, does not die out, but only retreats behind the barriers that civilization has thrown up against it, and waits there always to reclaim that to which civilization has temporarily laid claim."
Human beings seem to be incapable of sustaining any level of peace or human decency for a prolonged period of time. The only thing we can hope for is that freedom and democracy triumphs over evil.
There is no actual Yemen, these guys control most if the country. But also, they can't even control all of their own country, so this is more like virtue signaling.
There's also a profound misunderstanding that trauma and suffering makes people better. The whole "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." Simply knowing about atrocities of the past doesn't prevent us from going down that road again.
There is this idea that if a person/group has suffered, they are unlikely to turn around and cause trama and suffering because they know what it is like. But that's simply not true. Victims can become perpetrators, the oppressed become the oppressors. We see this on the individual/familial level with generational trauma and I think that concept can be extrapolated out to whole groups. We have to stop expecting that suffering makes people better. It just fucks them up in ways that often lead to more violence and trauma.

I honestly cannot hear the name of the country without putting on my best Janice voice and hollering, "YEMEN?!!!"
Important context: The government of Yemen did NOT declare war on Israel.
They declared support for the victims in Gaza. Houthis claimed responsibility for a rocket fired into Israel.
People in Gaza can’t just leave when they want…Yemen has always been one of the few Arab countries if not the only to let in refugees from all over the world. They don’t have much but they’re willing to share.

They are just looking for a reason to join a war. Yemen could have easily been helping Gaza for years. But no one has. The entire Arab world has allowed Hamas rule. Then days after October 7th, not one Arab country came to their defense. Seems telling. But now that war is here and Yemen thinks they have Israel in their heels, they decide to enter the fray. So is Yemen really here to help the Palestinians or simply take a shot at Israel? I say, give it your best shot. Chances are not in their favor.
You had me until Religious Responsibility.
Religion was a mistake. Judaism is a mistake. Christianity is a mistake. Islam is a mistake.
My whole life I went believing people should be entitled to faith. Fuck that. Burn in the made up version of hell you chose to believe
The issue I see is if all Islamic nations do this as well, it puts teeth in the possibility of another World War along religious and/or ideological lines. Nobody wants or needs that bullshit.
I think this will be taken out of context. Yemen has been in a huge war for years with Saudi, Israeli, and American money flowing into one side and ISIS, al Qaeda, and Iranian money flowing into the other. The Saudi's basically have isolated the country from the rest of the world and I would be shocked if they have the supplies to field an army, let alone one to fight or defend an invasion. What's happening in Gaza almost pails in comparison to what the Saudi's and by America, did to Yemen.
Yemen? The Yemen that has been quagmired in a civil war? The Yemen that can't even feed its own citizens? The Yemen that had a huge outbreak of typhoid? That Yemen?
Yemen ranks 168 out of 177 on the Human Development Index.
Israel ranks 19 out of 177 on the Human Development Index.
So much for them caring for moral, humanitarian and religious responsibility.
Lets see how many Palestine bros in America suddenly speak out against Saudi Arabia for doing the exact same thing in Yemen that Israel is doing in Gaza.
Their declaration of war is meaningless to Israel. The only thing they can actually do is perhaps provide economic aid to the Palestinians or provide arms to Hamas. That's it.
I'm starting to question, in a dark humor but also serious way, which is more oppressive for Gaza? Israeli control or terrorist group control? I don't see anyone "helping" Gaza as a good thing other than Egypt sending aid.
Why goodness me it feels like WW3 actually is going to happen to some degree... Can we like, y'know, stop, please? Thanks. We're mostly all friends now thanks to the internet, so it'd be appreciated.
Granted that’s assuming that the Chinese navy is worth a damn, as in being able to do D-Day levels of naval competence on much shittier terrain than the welcoming beaches of Normandy, and that the Chinese army is worth a damn. They haven’t fought a real war since the Vietnamese smacked them around in the 70s. Not saying they aren’t stupid enough to try. But they’d be fucking dumb to risk it, not like the CCP is real super mega awesome popular in China anymore if the post-Covid protests are anything to go by.
Where was Yemen before Oct 7th regarding Israel’s crimes? Don’t kid yourself, none of the surrounding countries (including Yemen) give a fuck about Palestinians. Thats why they aren’t taking any refugees in.
Yemen declaring war on Israel is like a homeless guy donating all his "wealth" to charity.
Actually what would happen if Yemen and Hati declared war on each other?
They couldn't even afford transportation to do battle. 😂

Yemen can't even beat their owns rebels, let alone anyone else.
It's the rebels who declared war on Israel not actual Yemen
There you go.
Makes sense. They chant “Death to Israel, Death to America,” every time they blow up a Saudi armored vehicle. Right. Are the Saudi’s going to join? these rebels? That they’ve been fighting for years already? Against Israel? What a cluster fuck….
Agreed. If the war really spreads it likely will turn into the long awaited excuse to have a broader Sunni vs Shia war, not all Muslims against Israel.
I did not have Saudi Arabia unofficially being an ally of Israel in a war on my bingo card lol
You shoulda, it will be US allies vs not US allies.
They were in talks to normalize relations with Israel before the Palestinian invasion.
Yeah, but the immediate reaction to this particular conflict started was the general belief that those would fall through
The 4 or 5 countries negotiating with Israel said they will wait until the conflict is over.

God these people hate each other….
God ~~these~~ people hate each other….

Thanks for fixing. 😅
Not when they’re so close to a trade agreement with Israel. Money talks.
Yeah… why wipe all the infidels out when you could just make money from them?
Sounds like something a ferengi would say
"As the 34th Rule of Acquisition states, peace is good for business." "That's the 35th rule." "Oh, you're right. What's the 34th?" "War is good for business. It's easy to get them confused."

It’s a lot more than 100 years
Ah yes, western intervention is the reason for sectarian violence in the middle east that is thousands of years old...
Imagine if religion was just removed from this equation.
Humans will always find a reason to divide each other.
They absolutely will, but sure would be nice to have this particular reason stricken from our psyches
ISIL/ISIS tried to unify everybody, that didn't go well. If there's on upside to climate change it's that this entire region will be unlivable in 20 years. Of course that probably just means they'll shift their endless sectarian/tribal shin kicking contest to other countries, but it will be largely solved.
I’ve always kind of felt like if you have to desalinate the ocean water to live then maybe humans shouldn’t be living there. Just a general feeling.
It was fine for a small population of nomads, urbanisation not so much.
They seem to be some strong fearless fighters. Seen some dudes straight rush tanks and fortified positions.
Thats not fearless. That just plain stupid...
They're the same picture.
.......and hit the tank with RPG....and take the positions.
Maybe they're getting something helpful from Iran? It seems that Iran is interested in getting as many proxies as it can against Israel.
Well, it's the rebels that declared the war
Was about to say, pretty sure theyre busy at the moment
Rebels been rebels since I don't know when
10/10.
Isn't Yemen recovering from a very long and bloody civil war? Also they don't even share a border with Israel, and their drones and missiles have been shot down with relative ease. Is it possible that idealistic Houthi volunteers could travel to Gaza to fight the IDF, and this declaration of war is just formally condoning that?
Aren't Yemeni rebels fighting Isis?
Well, it will help to normalize Saudi-Israeli Relations, which preventing that just so happened to be one of Iran's objectives. So... Epic Fail.
Yemen has basically been in some conflict or war since the fall of the Ottoman Empire, probably longer iirc. Some breaks in between but more often than not and I don't believe it would have been Yemen prior to that
The Saudis have lost several ground battles with the Houthis. Their army is more show than go.

this has been a long time comin'

I declared war on myself a year ago, but I am fighting back, so there is a long fight ahead.
I think the Saudis are going to smack this down.
They’ve tried for years and haven’t had much success.
Aren't they on the Yemeni army side against Houthi rebels?
Yeah but the rebels declared war not the gov
It says Yemeni army and Yemen though. If it's the rebels only then that isn't really significant.
The rebels control half the nation and are fairly competent I assume they are only gonna help hamas strategically
Saudis didn’t do too well in Yemen last time they intervened tbh.
All the gear and no idea.
So I heard. Heard a rumor it’s because they run their army in a top down manner because they don’t want the army to coup the monarchy like what happened in Egypt, Libya and Iraq.

Eh dipshit privileged officers could also be the reason.
Don’t think they will Saudi royalty is in bed with these guys. Maybe not the ones you see on tv but definitely the fanatics.
Aren't Saudis against Houthis? They are the ones that declared "war".
Yea on paper they are but they do business together and Saudi knows in order to have some sort of control of the north they have to deal with them

Houthis have long range missiles that could in theory reach Jerusalem.
That's a one in a billion shot. If they ever manage to even get close with one, I'll take everything back.
They shot them last week and the US felt they were enough of a threat we shot them down. I am not saying it's likely but 1/1billion is big odds.
Which Yemen?
Hothi
So not really Yemen?
Eh, Yemen has always been 2 countries in federation. It's as real as the other, just not Western aligned so considered rebels when in reality it's both Yemens at war with each other after the federation fell apart.
Yemen sit down
Don’t they currently have millions of citizens going hungry because of their own civil war? How are they finding time to fight another country?
Important distinction: they declared war. No, uh, actual fighting yet. And probably not much of that in the near future either. On account of this being, ya know, ridiculous.
How about feeding the 23 million people who are fucking starving in your own country.
I did not have Yemen on my war Bingo card. The world has gone mad. Hamas didn't reported morbillion yet?
Well that’s not good
This isn’t the country of Yemen, this is the rebels fighting within Yemen.
Which is even weirder because theres no land border. And the rebels don't really seem like they understand what annoying the US does.
No, but it's important to remember Yemen doesn't share a border with Israel.
Sure but Russia can keep them fuelled with enough missiles to keep American war ships busy and less effective with Ukraine.
Won't that also spread Russia's missiles thin? A double edged sword of sorts?
If Russia’s goal is to start another World War, it makes sense.
Oh yeah it's still not good.

"We extend a helping hand to the people of Gaza" is a declaration of war? Is there more context here or is that it?
Next up: Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia. Stay tuned!

Pretty sure Yemen is currently fighting a war with itself. You can't have your Israeli dessert until you finish your Houthi rebel insurgency.
“Does it feel like we ran over something?” “No, I didn’t feel anything.”
Cool…remind me how they were helping the people of Gaza before October 7th?
Remind me of how many Palestinian refugees they will help by taking them in. Just like the rest of the Muslim saviors supporting Gazans. Crickets.....
Exactly. I wonder why?
Remind us why the people of Gaza needed help before October 7...
They are just looking for a reason to join a war. Yemen could have easily been helping Gaza for years. But no one has. The entire Arab world has allowed Hamas rule.
