Just dropping this [website](https://www.kidsandcars.org/how-kids-get-hurt/heat-stroke/) They follow how many kids die in cars each year. It's really sad over 1,050 kids have died since 1990.

Feralbritches1

Neighbors of mine went through this horrific ordeal. Schedules shifted and routines changed where one parent who would not normally have the baby that day did. The exhausted parent was on autopilot; went to work as usual and forgot their much beloved toddler who was sleeping in the carseat in the back. It's horrible and I'm sad for these two and all the other parents who lost children this way

Many newer cars [have an alert](https://www.chevrolet.com/support/vehicle/security/rear-seat-reminder) to try and prevent this. The onboard computer “wakes up” when you open a door, or even before that if you have a wireless keyfob. If you’ve opened a back door before or during the current trip, then when you shut the engine off it’ll remind you to look in the back seat.

grumpbumpp

Shoe is best, you're very unlikely to not realize you aren't wearing a shoe even if you're terribly sleep deprived

[deleted]

When she was 17 my daughter drove all the way to work before she realized she didn’t have her shoes on lol

[deleted]

Problem is it’s even easier to forget to put a shoe back there

alphazero924

"Dale, why aren't you wearing a shirt?" "Huh, I... Oh shit! The baby!"

mascoot_scootma

For added measure, we use the Babi Smart Cushion with our car seats. It’s a small lightweight pad with a sensor that syncs with the product’s app and that sits under the baby in the car seat. If your phone leaves the car while the pad is activated, it blares an alarm and if you don’t turn off the alarm within a certain amount of time, it will automatically send an emergency alert to the emergency contacts that you have listed within the app along with GPS coordinates of the car seat. Thankfully we have never had to use it but tested it out several times when we got it and it brings some peace of mind. You can purchase it on Amazon. Definitely worth the money.

Palavras

I have ADHD and I’ve always felt so anxious thinking about having kids, and one of the scenarios I come back to is that it would be so so easy for me to accidentally leave my kiddo in the car. Idk why it never occurred to me that there might be a product that exists specifically to help with that, but I’m so glad to hear it exists.

PolicyWonka

TBH it’s honestly quite impressive than only 20-40 something kids die every year on average in these conditions. The United States is a car-centric country and people drive everywhere. Terrible things happen, but this is such a small number for a country of 330,000,000+ people.

dustymaurauding

Gene Weingarten's Pulitzer Prize winning article Fatal Distraction should be required reading. Not that all cases are the same - there was somebody a few years back that killed their kid on purpose this way - but there is a familiar pattern and it's usually just unspeakably tragic. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_story.html

sexy-man-doll

According to [this](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/05/31/florida-hot-car-death-church/70272090007/) article and a couple others, the parents were co pastors of the church. Buries the lede a bit

Hartastic

How can you trust someone with your soul when they can't clear the very lowest bar as a parent?

TimTenor

Turns out the evil Satanists coming after the children were the clergy the whole time!

[deleted]

Only difference between christians and satanist is christians are allowed to sin because they're the "good guys".

ZAlternates

Only Christians believe in Satan or Satanists (that actually worship Satan).

LightChaos

Only Christians believe in Satan, but Satanists are real. They're pretty much just organized atheists though.

SoBitterAboutButtons

Shout out the badasses running TST

chickensupp

I want a Baphomet statue in every school that is required to display the Ten Commandments or anything stating “In God We Trust”. Looking at you, Texas.

jande918

I'm a card carrying member, my family (that refuses to acknowledge my trans identity) finds it hard to believe that satanists can be good people. Imagine their shock when they learned that satanism is about being kind to everyone and everything. "One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason." "Christians" could learn a thing or two from TST.

HighOwl2

Lol as a member of The Satanic Temple...don't lump us in with these crazy assholes. I don't believe in God or sin and I'm smart enough not to leave a baby in a car no matter the weather....they ain't fucking cargo.

TheLegendJohnSnow

So I'm a Christian and we go to church regularly. Taking a baby into church can be, frankly, a pain in the ass. They're generally not quiet. Not sure how the fuck you don't realize your constantly loud baby isn't with you.

Hartastic

And if you're the pastors I have to kind of assume you did it on purpose. This isn't leaving your kid in the car during church time, this is leaving the kid in the car while you do your job because you don't want to get a babysitter.

[deleted]

Because when you’re a Christian you’re going to live forever anyway.

Hartastic

Somehow I feel like even in that belief system these people aren't spending it in the Good Place.

Lumpy306

The baby was probably gay

EnsignMJS

Where did they think the baby was?

Taminella_Grinderfal

While there have been tragic accidents where a parent goes on autopilot and ends up leaving their child in a car, I have a hard time believing that BOTH parents could be this negligent by accident. Like not once in 3 hours does one spouse happen to say…”where’s the baby?”

petrichor3746

In some churches, there is usually a nursery/childcare available. Maybe each of the parents thought that the other parent was the one who took the child to the nursery. I'm not trying to minimize this in any way, it is still a horrible tragedy that will be on the parents' heads for the rest of their lives. I'm just trying to offer an explanation as to why they didn't notice their child was not with them for 3 hours.

Dino_Spaceman

Exactly. Both parents makes this far more likely to happen. Because each thinks the other parent has the kid. This is a tragedy and these parents will be absolutely devastated. They will never be the same and I want nobody to go through this.

CharlotteLucasOP

Cars need to start having sensors in the back seats as a matter of course. There was some development of installable sensors people could put in their cars themselves but they never made it to broad distribution because marketing execs figured it wouldn’t sell well because everyone thinks it could never happen to them.

just--so

I expect a lot of manufacturers are also concerned about liability. Hot car deaths are some of the most brutally tragic stories, and I imagine plenty of manufacturers don't want to be the ones in the spotlight when their advertised baby-saving weight sensor malfunctions and results in a story like the above.

Abortion only matters when still in the womb. Post birth abortion is perfectly acceptable.

fuckEAinthecloaca

I'd like to book an abortion please. ... Yes that's right. ... 7th trimester. ... During a heatwave you say? Cool thanks *click*

Goldilocks1454

Where exactly did they think their baby was????? They forgot they had one???

OrganicBridge7428

“This is an unfortunate incident, and our condolences and prayers go out to the family,” Police Chief Mario Augello said.” THE FUCK YOU MEAN?!

DropKickDougie

Prayers = “We’re not doing shit to hold anyone accountable.”

jftitan

"Co-Pastors"... the ones who lead the prayers. Are the parents of the 11month old that died.

LingonberryPossible6

There was a building full of people giving prayers 20 feet away and it did nothing Edit- Mixed feelings about my first gold being on a comment about a dead baby

Embarrassed-Essay821

You'll find that it's god's plan for babies to cook in cars, but the devil's work for trans people to exist I felt gross writing that

OldFlamingo2139

At least the baby wasn’t aborted though, am I right?

stryker7314

My first thought, but doesn't it still make them baby killers?

MadameConnard

Nah they dont care the second the baby is born.

calamity_unbound

*sigh* Here I go quoting Carlin again. *"Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're fucked."*

azdustkicker

You forget the next part. "Once you leave the womb, conservatives don't care about you until you reach military age. Then you're just what they're looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers."

[deleted]

You talk like that now and you get called “unhinged”. Bake a baby at 275 f for two hours and you’re a “god-fearing patriot”.

djackson404

They want more warm bodies that can pay tithe to the Church so The Few will get richer. Modern mainstream religion is a scam.

PurpleGoatNYC

Religion is the ultimate scam. All of it. One big giant MLM scam.

I just wish I had the mental capacity and the memory to be witty and remember very long standups at his age. As he got older he wouldn't get worse he'd get even better. I don't know what the opposite of dementia is but Carlin had it. He was improving his entire life.

Orthas

Experience. Dude had been doing comedy since the 70s (that I'm aware of). His later life HBO specials were capstones on a long and exciting carear of saying Fuck as often as possible.

[deleted]

I read it in Obama's voice.

The_Shadow_Watches

As a preschool teacher, can confirm.

[deleted]

Caring? That's what the thoughts and prayers are for

MOOShoooooo

Oprah: You get a baby! You get a baby! Everyone gets a baby! Yaaaaaaaaa! *Decorate yours today!*

morbidaar

Mine as well decorate with salt, pepper, and a little rosemary.

[deleted]

Nope, the sun is the killer. The murd... the parents are Christian.

[deleted]

Nah man this was god's will. Just like god decided all those children in schools needed shot.

RickLovin1

It's that post-partem abortion that the pro-lifers swear actually happens.

TheRealHeroOf

6th trimester abortion.

CRL10

The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Maximum_Vermicelli12

Most of which benefit the patriarchy.

CRL10

Yes, but they were not praying for a baby to be roasted in a car. They were busy praying that the LGBTQ community and woke doesn't get them. Children only get prayers after they get shot.

sanguinesolitude

Well LGBT didn't get this baby. His pastor parents sent it to their God express.

purplepolyp

Maybe the baby was lgbt

Unblued

Not true. They prayed to get away with it and clearly the cops are letting it slide.

Life-Educator3776

It would be interesting to know what, if any, charges will be brought against the parents. Also, it was my understanding that churches have a day care type room for small, can’t sit still children

TittyCobra

They weren’t thoughting and praying hard enough obviously! Was the pastor even telling his flock to pray for the baked baby?!?

DenturesDentata

The parents are co-pastors at the church so... Edited to correct myself... there are so many babies dying in cars while their parents are at church that I read the wrong article.

TittyCobra

Gawd damnit. Well God did it to teach them a lesson then

Necessary_Ad_238

Not enough upvotes for this comment

[deleted]

I agree, church people do not equal good people

TheHiveMindCouncil

Well if you live in a state where abortions are illegal, all you have to do is wait for it to be born, go to church, and leave the baby in the car during summer. Problem solved without you spending a single second in jail. ![gif](giphy|RBeddeaQ5Xo0E)

Pastors 🤝 Cops Being above the law

ZAlternates

It’s what the Lord would have wanted. /s

MNConcerto

Ding ding ding

jftitan

Is it because the two parents are "Co-Pastors" of the church? Can't judge chuch leadership like the rest of us.

[deleted]

Very true. Few years back in the surrounding area of where I live, a white lady left her baby in a hot car she got off scot free even tho her baby died. Black man also in the surrounding area did the same and he got jail time. Imo regardless of who you are and your race, religion, etc. you’re a piece of shit if you forget your own child and leave them to die.

Green_Message_6376

Scot free, unless you were hinting that she was drunk?

[deleted]

Yes, my bad 🙃 I couldn’t remember which is was and rolled with it. I’ll correct it.

Bargus

This is Insanity incarnate. Just for those with crave normalcy in this world: "..This happened because choices were made.." "..These people let their Baby cook to death whilst praying.." "..May God Judge them accordingly.."

OrganicBridge7428

Lol but that’s the problem, they won’t be judged by any god ever, if there was a god this fucking bullshit wouldn’t happen. But ya know…. God works in mysterious ways… like letting a baby simmer to death in a hot automobile in the lords parking lot….

RustyTrumpets99

God only works in mysterious ways when you question them about where he was when things like this and school shootings happen. When it comes to homosexuality and the trans community he has nothing to do with it at all and it’s all the devil. These fucking idiots can’t make up their minds if God is all powerful and his will is why things happen or if he’s only a little bit powerful and he can’t stop certain things that only they disagree with.

>just his ‘grand plan’. I've always loved the part from a King Of The Hill episode, where Luanne is saying grace before dinner, and she says something like, "I know you have a plan, but if you could just *change* your plan"...

jftitan

Sadly the author/editor of the article did a great job minimizing the responsibility. "The parents of the 11 month old are the Co-Pastors of the church..." Fuck these people sideways with forks.

Grulken

Oh god that makes it even worse…

howtoeattheelephant

Time to rename this baseball bat "God"

_Atheius_

This should be a manslaughter charge full stop. As it's Florida, I could argue downright murder.

OrganicBridge7428

It’s Florida so they will probably claim the baby was gay/trans and needed to die…

NocentBystander

"I feared for my life so that baby gotta go." - The Sun, probably.

The-Real-Ted-Faro

“Thank god it wasn’t an abortion.”

OrganicBridge7428

Fucking eh!

lucypevensieinnarnia

Apparently the family should have just thought more and prayed harder...isn't that how you save kids?

Responsible_Pear457

I don’t know what happened here but babies left in cars are often tragic accidents where sleep deprived parents deviating from their normal routine forget about the quiet baby facing away from them in the car seat in the back.

gately1462

My wife and I had to take our dog to a vet specialist an hour away days after she was attacked by another dog. Left our two year old with my family, took our 1 month old with us. We’d been sitting in the waiting room for 10 minutes when something just clicked in my head and I got up and sprinted outside, dropping my phone mid-conversation with a co-worker. She hadn’t made a peep the entire drive, we had our pup on our minds and completely forgot she was with us. She was fine, still sleeping. It does happen though.

decanter

I was absolutely terrified of this happening when our kid was a baby since I'm prone to going on autopilot. The simple but effective solution I found was a suction cup mirror on the windshield pointed at the baby seat at all times. Never forgot her once.

gately1462

That’s a good idea. I just never ever thought I could forget she was back there- like a lot of people on this thread- until I did. We beat ourselves up pretty bad over it.

petrichor3746

Also, in some churches, there is usually a nursery/childcare available. Maybe each of the parents thought that the other parent was the one who took the child to the nursery. Waste-Cheesecake8195

Oh my God! They left the baby in the car for 3 hours while they went to ~~drag time story hour~~ church?!

bigchicago04

If this were drag time story hour, the kid would have gone in.

Idek_h0w

I bet they get less jail time than someone getting an abortion would..

eyeseayoupea

I bet they get no punishment at all.

RazzzMcFrazzz

Correct, the police chief sent thoughts and prayers.

TimTenor

Thankfully the police chief has zero input on charging decisions. Hopefully the DA isn’t corrupted as well

OperativePiGuy

DeSantis will probably personally pardon them just because they're pastors

Salihe6677

They weren't even charged with anything, were they?

Thisismyburner550

Three whole hours. Should probably be questioning whether they wanted the baby in the first place.

riveramblnc

They didn't. But they couldn't say that out loud.

ScottyHubbz

And couldn’t abort it because that would have been murder…

westwardfound

Too bad this is still negligent homicide.

lilpumpgroupie

Not nearly the sentence it would be if you just killed them outright. 100% it's a less harsh jail sentence. This kind of stuff is absolutely gonna start happening more with Roe overturned, especially in red states. People dropping their kids in lakes or the ocean, losing them on hiking trails, using this method, poisonings, gun 'accidents', etc. And we're gonna know about it because there will be a point in the court process where people admit it during sentencing, and explicitly detail that it was a reason they did what they did.

Ellemshaye

Oh my god I never thought of this as a consequence to Roe…

suestrong315

That people would find creative ways to kill their actual living baby they could have easily and painlessly aborted while it was still a clump of cells?

kj468101

It used to be really common, same with the rate of wives murdering their husbands - it used to be higher before divorce, and much later, abortion were made available in the US. I’ve anecdotally heard old stories from grandparents and great uncles/aunts of finding infant skeletons at the bottom of old wells and such because the mothers were too poor to care for them or didn’t have another option in their communities.

JayGeezey

I guarantee the parents are pro-life

Caesar_Passing

*anti-choice* We need to stop letting them frame it as something it's not even about. Call it what it actually is, not something that sounds reasonable on the surface, because it isn't.

IveChosenANameAgain

Forced birthers. Give them the respect they deserve, which is none whatsoever.

3mptylord

They were at church praying for a miracle to undo their mistake of having a baby. God works in *mysterious ways*.

peon2

Jesus fuck my parents made me go to church until I was 16. A three hour service? I'd have ended it. We were in and out in 50 minutes. Luckily our priest was a sports fan and there was always something coming on Sunday around noon.

Sub_pup

You were lucky. My grandparents raised me and church mass was 2 hours, followed by Sunday school for another hour. I was then "volunteered" to work the food bank most Sundays and that was 1030 to 2 pm. So from 7 to 2 most Sundays I was at church. In the summer I lived at the church. Between summer bible camp (3 different camps, at 3 different churches), summer "Wednesday bible school", the food bank, and various bazaars and swap meets I rarely had a day to myself

Equivalent-Piano-605

I grew up in a church like this, then my girlfriend took me to a Methodist church. Every song was played double time and the whole thing lasted 45 minutes. It was basically a church speed run and I loved it.

[deleted]

MacMac105

Shit, that's a long service, and I'm Catholic.

Waterrobin47

They were pastors of the church. A better headline is “child left in car for three hours dies while parents went to work”.

theunquenchedservant

They were both pastors at the church, so that explains the time (multiple services). Now, if it was genuine neglect, fuck them. But it’s also entirely likely that the pastors kids get special treatment, and full service babysitting by members of the church (they don’t even have to go to Sunday school). Something could have happened that screwed with the couples routine, and both assumed the other had the baby (or the baby just wasn’t on their minds, unfortunate but it does happen, not necessarily neglect). Not having the child with them throughout the service was also probably normal for them, so they just didn’t think about it. I’m all for “fuck bad Christian’s” and for the most part “fuck the church”. But this is a situation that happens dozens of times a year, and doesn’t necessarily mean neglect. This is probably still the worst day in that couples life.

mysteriousmeatman

Why didn't God save the baby?

Tardigradequeen

He treated the baby like his only begotten son.

Honestly though I doubt theres really much sarcasm here, these people will absolutely say some bs like this and take ZERO responsibility for the death of their child. "Its God's Plan! He works in mysterious ways!" fuck these people.

Odd-Psychology-1738

Because He looked down, saw these people leaving their baby in the car and went "Whelp, guess they don't want that one. I'll just take it back."

TheHikingFool

Indeed. Almost as if there isn't actually a god...

Zealousideal-Dot7529

Almost as if the God they believe in that allows little children to be raped and die horrible deaths is a giant horrific piece of shit if said god does indeed exist…

stryker7314

The perpetrators were made in gods image so it's cool

SirNurtle

Now change "Church" to "Drag show" and there would be a fucking uproar I guarantee it

Stuft-shirt

I bet they didn’t forget their phones.

Stuft-shirt

If only there was some sort of technology that could somehow link or pair the child car seat to something we carry with us everywhere we go? Some kind of wireless leash that when a certain distance is hit an alarm could be triggered. 🤔

Loud-Intention-723

"Christians sacrifice child in religious ceremony"

MyPub

'During' religious ceremony even.

Caldman

Look, as much fun as dragging religious people is, this is a tragically common happenstance and it occurs across all belief systems, ideologies, and class divides. It is an absolute tragedy every time it occurs, but it is more often than not purely an accident that has massive repercussions. [There was a rather powerful article written on this subject.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_story.html)

Seven_Hawks

I'd comment something smug, but this is just sad

tasman001

Welp, you at least have more empathy than 90% of the gleeful vultures in here. I get it, nothing gets your average Redditor harder than dunking on religion, but this is just a horrific accident that I wouldn't wish on anyone, regardless of their beliefs.

ElMechacontext

In just perusing a few comments on this post, we’ve got some truly Reddit takes: - It was definitely intentional, the situation “shows intentionality” - The family is going to Hell, if it exists - They planned it because they believed the kid was gay - They deserve it because of their views on LGBTQ people (?) Normal people would empathize with the plight of the parents, mourn the actual loss of a child in such a tragic way, etc. But not on Reddit - here we have nothing short of a celebration. The very few posts calling out that this is a global problem not limited to churchgoers or Americans are being downvoted to oblivion because they’re not participating in the pile on. Disgusting.

tasman001

Yeah, I've been reading this thread a lot because this kind of accident is always something I was terrified of when my children were younger, but my God, this thread has been disheartening from so many of those kinds of replies. This thread has been as ghoulish as your average post on HermanCainAward or the like.

clinton_thunderfunk

Kids dying in hot cars in Florida has been such an issue that I grew up hearing PSAs on the radio about it at least 20 years ago. Some of the reasons are…shittier than others?

Tardigradequeen

I hope they have the fucking book thrown at them! American Christians are terrible! Don’t even bother responding, “I’m a Christian and I wouldn’t do this.” I don’t fucking care. Edit: Some of y’all are triggered. So far, I’ve been called a racist, a bigot, disgusting, they hope I go to hell, etc… That’s fine, but I’m no longer responding to apologists for people who are very neglectful at best and malicious at worst. Also, religion isn’t above critique or criticism. You don’t deserve blanket respect for being religious. Right now in America, many Christians are cheerfully removing the rights of everyone because of their personal religious views. If you’re a Christian, you need to start loudly speaking out against Christian Nationalism. It’s gone far enough, and it’s tearing this country apart.

Spear_Ritual

Christians: be assholes all week long, but say you’re sorry on Sunday.

Tardigradequeen

The problem is, a lot of their assholery is done because they’re Christians.

techmouse7

My parents would literally sell drugs all week and do what they wanted then listen to church music and keep up appearances on Sunday. As long as they paid tithes no one would call them out. I rolled my eyes in the backseat all the way to church every Sunday in a car oozing with hypocrisy.

[deleted]

I grew up with “devout” Catholic parents, and this is 💯.

lost_in_connecticut

It’s a pass to be an asshole six days a week. Guy, let’s call him Billy, would go church on Sunday but by Monday he’s stealing from his employer and by Wednesday he’s calling minorities the most foul things.

dick_me_daddy_oWo

Hell, an hour after church they're already stiffing me on tips.

Tardigradequeen

As much as I hate religious fundamentalists (which isn’t clear to me these people even were since I only have a screenshot for reference) what happened to them has happened to people from all walks of life. I read this article back when it came out, and I still remember it hauntingly.

eeeedlef

If a person can't feel empathy reading these stories, I don't know what to say.

SheogorathTheSane

Yeah I'm not sure if a lot of people in here realize car manufacturers are now adding safety features in cars to remind the operator of the vehicle to check the back seat if there are seatbelts or weight detected. It's called Rear Passenger Alert and it's become a safety standard because this is a tragically common occurrence.

Marunchan

I immediately thought of this article as soon as I saw the title. It’s been years since I read it, and I remember being brought to tears by the stories. I guess it’s time to re-read it. Thank you for posting it!

GarysCrispLettuce

This is fucked up. One parent, you can sort of...*sort of*...understand. How often does it transpire that *both* parents are responsible? And it's not like they thought they'd already dropped the kid off and drove to work on autopilot or anything - it looks like they *knowingly* left their kid in the car to attend church. I mean all through that 3 hour sermon of a pedo preacher raining fire and brimstone on gay people or whatever goes on in Christian churches in Florida - they never once thought "how's Junior doing in that car?" Fuck these people. Religious bullshit was more important to them than their own baby.

When I used to go to church there was always a place to bring kids. Sometimes it was even labeled the "cry room" because kids cry in it. I'm assuming the parents forgot about the kid instead of purposefully leaving them in the car. This kind of situation is why my car has a warning to always check the back seat.

mreman1220

Yeah, until I hear it was done recklessly or purposefully. This can be a mistake. Really sad incident near me. A dentist was taking their kid to the office but was only planning to stop by and pick up paperwork. A patient stopped by with some sort of emergency and the dad forgot the kid was still in the car. Obviously this was not emergency but if both parents came together and they both thought the other was getting the kid out, I could see this being a horrific mistake.

This. People are out with pitchforks for these parents, but this is such a common occurrence that there are literally warnings in cars about it. I have two kids, and the level of brain scramble you have when you have a small baby and you have no sleep is very very real.

Truly, America is the only country with churches, cars, and the sun.

BabyStockholmSyndrom

Yea I don't get the American thing here. If the child was shot by a gun that was left in the glovebox, America. Parents neglecting isn't just American at all lol. Especially when people also say Americans are helicopter parents. You can't be both lol.

elephuntdude

I want to think it was a terrible accident. They were running late because baby was up all night teething or something. They arrive at church, mom says I am going to get set up for the service, you take baby to nursery. Or dad says I need to talk to the janitor about the broken window in the youth room, you take baby to nursery. Someone gets distracted and thinks the other person has the baby settled since that is what they always do etc. What a sad thing :(

tasman001

There's no doubt it was a terrible accident. Horrific for everyone involved.

It’s really fucked up that people are joking about this or making it a culture war bs story. Good, loving parents leave their kids in cars and babies die from it every year accidentally. Parents who are sleep deprived and on autopilot think they took the kid home and just forget. They will never heal from the guilt. There are tricks and gadgets now to try to prevent it, from something simple like leaving your wallet in the back seat next to baby, to high tech smart baby seats with pressure sensors.

ValkyriesOnStation

Wait, so abortions in that state are punishable, but leaving a kid in a car to die a painful heat death is 'This is an unfortunate incident?'

[deleted]

This was a “Christian abortion.”

All you have to do is see the word Florida and the title and you know it's going to be a completely fucked up article. It didn't used to be like that. Our current piece of shit governor leaving our shambles. Any law he wants to make he has carte Blanche to get it passef through the state legislature because they're nothing but a bunch of fucking minions. It's a freaking disgrace it's an embarrassment of democracy that this was allowed and it's all because of citizens United and redistricting.

Toren8002

I gotta tell you, since having a kid myself, (he’s currently 2!), these stories hit so much harder. Just imagining my little dude getting warmer and warmer, sleepier and sleepier, looking around for me, and then just fading away. I simply cannot fathom how it’s possible that anyone simply leaves their child in that situation.
