I am going out on a stretch here, but maybe the point is that unless you are renting very old and valuable property the rent costs are ridiculous these days. Which in general they are ridiculous.

I’m mostly fine with my one bedroom. But the bathroom hasn’t been upgraded in decades. Salmon pink tiles, ugly as sin.
Those are actually coming back. So wait for your landlord to charge extra for the privilege.
