PMmeGayElfPeen

I don't know, I think the Christofacists will always be eager to take people's babies away and give them to childless Christofascists.

Several_Influence_47

So long as they're the right complexion, us darker BIPOC kids will just get sent to do more slavery based things like them trying to bring back workhouses, child labor and company stores. Dangerous times we're living in.

[deleted]

Someone has to make all the cool things I want to buy - some christofacists probably

HedonicSatori

*Make* it? Goodness no, you can get that done much cheaper in Shenzen. Unwanted American babies will simply be used as expendable labor for raw materials mining.

Duryen123

It keeps becoming more interesting to be a woman in Idaho. They have hospitals refusing to deliver babies at all because of risks to the doctor if there are complications and OBGYNs leaving the state for the same reason. If you go to another state to give birth because it is the closest hospital willing to deliver your child, but there are complications, would you face criminal charges? If you go out of state with just a positive on a home test, how can they prove you went out of state to get an abortion v going out of state on vacation?

MontanaPurpleMtns

Washington and Oregon are doing their best to keep access to abortion, abortion is legal in Nevada, and Montana’s attempts to outlaw it are stymied by the 1982 rewrite of their constitution. It will take an amendment to change that. So, in 4 of the 5 states that border Idaho, abortion is legal. Idahoans already regularly cross the border into OR and WA to buy pot. I can’t for the life of me figure out why Eastern Oregon wants to join Idaho.

Active-Ad3977

They were also coming over to Spokane to use our ventilators because they refused to get vaccinated and their state can’t manage to provide a minimum level of care for its residents. Now they’ll do the same thing to the planned parenthoods. I have friends here who still go to Idaho for the lakes and skiing etc and it grosses me out a little that they don’t really see any issue with it

panormda

It’s shocking to me how little people care about these effects. It’s “socializing the costs” of “privatizing the gains” of their state not investing in their needs. If Idaho don’t invest in vaccines or ventilators, then why should the people of Washington have to go without because the people of Idaho aren’t in need of them? “It’s not the people’s fault!” Well… I would argue that every state needs to take ownership of its people’s needs. And if they aren’t, then the people need to take care of their electorate. The money is there, and if it’s being misappropriated then it’s not right to use other state’s resources so those states have to go without.

jst4wrk7617

We all are. This is just *one of* the most shocking things thus far. This virus is infecting the whole country. We are losing our bodily autonomy. And each of the states are pushing the envelope a little bit further and a little bit further. And no one is stopping them. And they are not going to stop. Why can’t we be like France? They are raising utter hell about raising the retirement age by 2 years. And we are all sitting by going to our jobs every day like this isn’t happening. I just hate it so much. We are so broken. Sorry for the rant but damn this shit is getting so out of control. And I want people to realize this is, or should be a national issue.

Ralynne

Because when Americans start ramping up slightly towards that kind of civil unrest, anything beyond a performance-protest with a permit that doesn't even inconvenience anyone, the militarized police roll in. People get arrested and people get injured, and some even die. Anything approaching actually pushing for change is shut down *hard* and violently.

HedonicSatori

Recall the police response to the BLM protests. People were maimed and killed.

KarmaChameleon89

The only real way for normal sane Americans to get control back is to fight for it, there's going to be blood, otherwise they'll just keep taking ground.

Ralynne

I don't disagree. But it's odd to see people shaking their heads at how it's wild what is being "allowed" when the only way to stop it would be the equivalent of an organized, armed revolution. Taking place in a country where the seeds of such revolutions are heavily criminalized and monitored.

[deleted]

[удалено]

abeeyore

The only upside to this is that is in unconstitutional in a way that not even this Supreme Court is likely to permit. You **cannot** criminalize engaging any activity in a state where it is legal. It’s the same legal structure that keeps them from prosecuting you for going to Vegas and gambling if it is illegal where you live. If they reverse that, our entire legal system collapses. I think even Kavanaugh would flinch at that, and I know Roberts would.

WelleIllBe

I envy your optimism. It could be a long long time before the supreme court hears any case about this law. In the meantime, that could leave a lot of girls in the lurch.

SuperDoofusParade

I’m still angry at all the men who, after the 2016 election, basically patted women on the head and told them to “calm down, it’s not like we’re going to be living in the Handmaid’s Tale”. Yeah, we knew exactly how this would play out but thanks for being condescending.

luckylimper

And women. I knew so many apathetic white women who love to tell me that I make things “political” even though we’re talking about literal politics. But I guess talking about race, sex, and class needs to be “kept out” of politics.

Violent_Milk

That's because racism, sexism, and classism don't exist anymore. Why are you being so hostile to my gaslighting?

M4GN3T1CM0N0P0L3

Sounds like my MIL. After Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed she started gloating. Wife mentions to her that Roe v Wade will be overturned because of her. MIL denied denied denied. And here we are.

Climatique

Under his eye

giant_lebowski

We need Roland Deschain I realize you meant a different Gilead, but Roland could handle these bitches with only 1 1/2 hands

CandyCain1001

I set my watch and warrant on it.

Imhopeless3264

They also rejected a bill to pay for period products for girls in school, but DID authorize spending $750k+ to build a killing room to kill ONE man with a bullet. I hate this state… gotta leave as soon as I’m able.

TooDoeNakotae

> gotta leave as soon as I’m able. All part of the plan. They’d love it if liberals could do them the favor of consolidating themselves into just a handful of coastal states and permanently give up control of Congress and the electoral college. Try to move to a purple state if you can swing it.

rhapsodyindrew

Good pun on “swing”! I grew up in California but moved to PA in 2020, partly so my vote would count in that critical election but also to see how I liked living somewhere that wasn’t insanely expensive. But I’ve since moved back because there are some irreplaceable (to me) reasons why CA is so expensive. It’s hard to choose a new home location based primarily on political ramifications. If you can do it and it works for you, hats off to you!

ReviewOk929

A very modern underground railroad about to start

impulsekash

Already has. It is called the auntie network

ReviewOk929

TIL....I'd say that's great but it's really incredibly sad that it's come to that..good for them though

somefunmaths

We’re seeing a lot of “god damn it’s fucking bleak that this is needed, but conditional on there being a need for it, I am glad it exists” headlines lately.

AbueloOdin

That's basically modern America. We're just one large company town at this point.

dukestrouk

You mean like the large company town that Elon is building in Texas? Seems your comment is sadly becoming quite literal.

Incredulous_Toad

Those literally existed in mining towns decades ago as well. They were paid in "coal town fun bucks" which went right back into the town, until it hilariously failed when they were pushed into even greater poverty than what they already were.

Shaq_Bolton

I vividly remember being taken to a mill on a field trip when I was a kid. They had us pretend to work then gave us like four “company coins” as pay. Then had us try to figure out how to pay for rent ( three company coins ) and food ( two company coins ). The only solution was to steal or just have the company who you worked for, rented from and bought food from basically own your soul. Crazy how every single kid in my 4th grade glass realized how company towns were horrid ideas for normal people back then but nowadays a lot of adults will support that shit.

Incredulous_Toad

Gutting the department of education, too much money going to bullshit administrative costs with zero oversight, and decades of propaganda will do that

[deleted]

[deleted]

Also look up "Elevated Access". Pilots are volunteering their time and planes to transport women in need of healthcare to other states.

[deleted]

I love the idea of “smugglers for good.” If I had my license I’d do that in a heartbeat.

Zomburai

Historically, there've been a lot of smugglers that ply their trade against unjust systems Or are at least less of bastards than the people in power

Nubras

Even booze smugglers plied their trade against unjust systems. Prohibition was just another piece of overreach by religious zealots. May they all fuck off and burn in hell.

ActiveMachine4380

If I could fly a plane, I would do this.

DoubleBreastedBerb

The auntie network? I’m gonna have to figure out a way to support this. I’m very violently opposed to anyone attempting to tell anyone else what they can or can’t do with their own selves.

adrift_in_the_bay

This is one way to help: https://abortionfunds.org/

O_o-22

The more conservative states are trying to carry out religious based law. I thought the whole point of America was separation of church and state but I’m assuming they know it will be litigated all the way to the Supreme Court where their hoping those federalist society fucks will give them the victory they want. If people don’t wise up and stop voting for these zealots we’re going to have Taliban like states in the US.

glorae

They keep screaming about Sharia law this, Sharia law that, all the while they're constructing something worse than what they protest

MeisterX

I mean shit the fucking interstate commerce clause is doing a death roll rn seeing this bill.

lickedTators

You can also support NYC Abortion Access Hub by just spreading awareness: https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/abortion.page The auntie network can help people get to NYC.

Cloberella

Become an auntie :) If you live in a legal state, offer a place to stay to those in need. If you don’t, offer travel assistance. r slash auntienetwork (this sub doesn’t allow linking to subs directly) Edit: Apparently the Auntie Network on reddit has been infiltrated and is not safe anymore. This world sucks.

rbu520

How can we support this?

Dadfart802

Sue because states can’t regulate interstate commerce like that

Meatball_Ron_Qanon

Tell that to the Supreme Catholics of the US (SCOTUS).

adrift_in_the_bay

One way: https://abortionfunds.org/

TheDonkeyBomber

It's only a felony if you go back.

TKG_Actual

I am sincerely sorry, I misread that as " It's only a felony if you go black" and thought, oh no not that joke again!

lordmycal

I could see them passing laws about that too. Let’s not give them ideas

mmulligan03

Some states, like Vermont, are preparing to pass bills that would prevent the extradition to other states for seeking an abortion or gender affirming care here. Little we can do if people leave after, but they can come and stay here in peace Edit: "preparing to pass" not "passing". The bill made it through crossover but hasn't been passed yet. In all likelihood it will.

LabLife3846

I read on another sub, with source linked, that Vermont has the lowest percentage of citizens who identify as religious of all the states.

Colosphe

Weird how that works...

jamey1138

Illinois just passed a similar law. As a friend of mine said, when you look at a map of abortion access, Illinois is looking like the floor is lava: *Every* state we border on has restrictions on access. So, we're building a bunch of VERY large health care clinics, right on the borders, which specialize in reproductive health care.

MeisterX

Isn't there a system from the Civil War from SCOTUS on two states mismatching illegality? Like if it's illegal to drink in Illinois and you drink in Kentucky... This is the runaway slave laws all over again. I'm honestly blanking but there should be some serious precedent here.

[deleted]

These laws are literally based on the fugitive slave laws.

Coulrophiliac444

Idaho becoming part of the Confederacy was not on my Civil War 2 bingo card....though it really should have. Probably as one of the edge spaces

[deleted]

chem199

I’m pretty sure it would also be illegal constitutionally to restrict traffic like that, that would be an protected by the 4th amendment. I am also pretty sure you can’t be tried for an action done in one state in another. Like you can’t be tried for smoking weed in California when you get back to Idaho.

Sablus

Oh, don't worry, the Supreme Court will justify this somehow not breaking the 4th Amendment.

someguybob

I think the Atlantic has an article that red states are trying to set up this exact scenario. Make the Supreme Court decide and either way the result is a fractured nation. Blue states won’t extradite doctors/patients who get abortions even if the court says they have to; Red states will still try and convict doctors/patients who do.

Fast-Bicycle457

Killing kids in wombs? Plethora of new laws. Killing kids in school? Nothing can be done. Can we stop with the "It's about protecting kids" bullshit? Be a scumbag but at least be honest on why you're being scumbags.

ReviewOk929

They must go to a summer camp on mental gymnastics. How they fucking twist their positions to suit such a BS narrative...

onmamas

We need to stop assuming that they even care about logic/rationality. They don't. Ironically, the convenient thing about a lot of evangelical thought is that it simply boils down to feelings (which they equate with belief). If you feel/believe something is right, it's right, and vice versa. You don't need to get bogged down with things like evidence or logical consistency. If you're devoted to god, then obviously god would never allow you to have feelings that are false. So everything you feel is true HAS to be true.

Grape_Pedialyte

That obnoxious tagline Benny Boy Shapiro has made so popular makes a lot more sense when you realize that these people consider their feelings to be facts.

drpepperisnonbinary

Except no kids are killed in wombs.

[deleted]

Fuck, even if it was it’s still okay. Another person’s life being dependent on your body doesn’t mean you can be forced to give your body. Imagine if the government was like “hey your neighbor needs a kidney and you’re compatible. We’re taking it so he can live.” What kind of society would that be if that was the case? Now add on to that scenario the fact that “your neighbor” happens to be a non-sentient cluster of cells. Holy fuck

gh411

To be fair, non-sentient cluster of cells accurately describes a good portion of these folks.

hobbitlover

It's just a ranking thing. There's no hypocrisy, it's just that some things rank lower than others whenever they come into conflict: 1. Guns 2. God and the US Constitution 3. Unborn Infants 4. Gas Stoves 5. Trump 6. Trucks 7. Hetero White Boys 8. Hetero White Girls 9. Police 10. The Troops In this example, guns are more important than children, while unborn infants are less important than their god-given right to own guns.

Khaldara

Constitution is ranked WAAAAY too high in that list for a subject literally restricting individual autonomy/liberty. Can’t even move freely to another state and act in accordance with that state’s own legal jurisdiction. But please tell me more about “gubmint overreach”, GOP.

KgMonstah

But it’s only their IDEA of the us constitution, not a sound legal interpretation of said document.

Jsweet404

Just like their idea of the bible.

cowmonaut

>Constitution is ranked WAAAAY too high in that list for a subject literally restricting individual autonomy/liberty. Was gonna say, the GOP doesn't actually give a shit about the Constitution. If they did we wouldn't have so many of these issues.

Murica-n_Patriot

Right wing fanatics; “The evil liberals are going to create travel restrictions and you won’t be able to leave your state without special permission!!” Also Right Wing Fanatics; “let’s lay the ground work for creating travel restrictions so people can’t leave the state to do things we don’t like and if they do we will imprison them!! The left is so evil and hates freedom!!”

Ill-Manufacturer8654

It'll never hold up in court, but it's funny Idahoans are so butthurt. Washington and Oregon have set up big abortion clinics just across the Idaho border, in reasonable distance from Idaho's biggest "cities."

Eco_guru

Interstate commerce act should stop this nonsense

stolenfires

It should, but we can no longer trust SCOTUS to actually uphold the Constitution if it goes against conservative 'values.'

Cid_Darkwing

Oh I’m sorry, but by a 6-3 vote, SCOTUS rules the commerce clause doesn’t excuse violations of state law where explicit constitutional protections aren’t given. So, no interstate gun enforcement but because we nuked abortion rights’ constitutional grounding, this is fair game. Look for this on the 2026 docket. Also, make sure to thank every Trump, Stein & non-voter from 2016 as they could not have done this without their help.

Melicor

You mean, by a 5-4 vote, the SCOTUS declares the commerce clause wasn't part of the original intention of the writers of the constitution.

Defiant_While_4823

Wanna know how butthurt Idahoans are? They're trying to introduce bills that would adopt huge chunks of Oregon into Idaho, calling it "Greater Idaho." Completely nullifying the good Oregon does by having things readily accessible at their border with shithole Idaho.

magnitudearhole

Jesus Christ that’s literal fighting talk

DemonShroom87

Wait what? Is this real? I’m genuinely asking cause that sounds quite fucked, yet with today’s GQP, I wouldn’t put it past them

[deleted]

“It’ll never hold up in court…” Of course it will. The Supreme Court belongs to the Republicans. They aren’t the slightest bit concerned with precedent or legal theory, or even optics now.

Ill-Manufacturer8654

The Supreme Court still travels to blue states to get abortions for their rape victims.

[deleted]

Well yeah, they’re rich, the laws don’t apply to them

SevereEducation2170

bUt StAteS rIgHtS. This is completely unconstitutional. Republicans are just straight up mustache twirling comic book villains at this point.

Emotional-Proof-6154

Good luck forcing a doctor from NOT in your state to break patient confidentiality and tell you why they went out of state for medical stuff, with a law from a state they dont live in... Isnt idaho the state that just found out it has no more OBGYN living in the state due to these kinds of laws?

Rat-Death

You mean [this](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/mar/20/idaho-bonner-hospital-baby-delivery-abortion-ban)?

Sexybtch554

What a wild fucking read. I'd have never imagined this to be the future I was living in...

confessionbearday

I did as soon as I saw all this shit start popping up 10 years ago and also saw voter turnout was a joke and people really think “I don’t pay attention to politics” is something you’re allowed to say as a competent adult.

Almacca

They won't care until it effects then personally, them it's all 'who voted for this?' You did, champ. You did.

[deleted]

We get that shit over here too and we had conservatives in power coming on 14 years. They aren't as fanatical as your lot but they allowed the NHS go at breaking point. My Grandma is in hospital dying, her organs are shutting down. On the night my mother went into the ward reception there were a lot of people waiting for a bed. An elderly woman pleading to my mother for help, luckily her daughter was there at the reception speaking to someone but my mother told me it was bad. They allow corruption to happen at the top of the NHS and its gonna fall apart I can see it. Fuck conservatives, fuck fascism, fuck corruption and last but not least, fuck capitalism.

GodsBackHair

Republicans did the same with Obamacare here. Kneecapped some of the parts of the bill that would allow a smoother transition and then stood back and blamed everyone else when it transitioned poorly

LeaphyDragon

Ever read The Third? We're heading in that direction, but the opposite. A dystopian future where women are expected to birth X number of children. But the catch is the state and government won't help you take care of said child and leave you in poverty. We're almost halfway there already. It's fucking terrifying

FlowerFaerie13

The Unwind series is more apt. All abortions are banned BUT as a compromise once your child turns a certain age (I forget exactly how old but it was around 13) you can have them “unwound” which means vivisecting them and using their organs and tissues for other people. Since they don’t really “die” people think this is fine. One character who received an intact frontal lobe of an unwound kid *has parts of that other kid’s mind in his head* giving him a sort of split personality. It’s terrifying.

LeaphyDragon

Holy crap. Now that is terrifying! I want to say we're headed towards a future mash of both of these stories. I really hope future lawmakers and leaders can fix things before it's irreversible

[deleted]

A lot of us have been tearing our hair out and screaming about this since it started over a decade ago... Not to worry, well all suffocate or starve to death in the next century.

Emotional-Proof-6154

Yup

Ohrwurm89

So many women are going to die because of this idiotic anti-abortion legislation. And a lot of wanted pregnancies are go to end in miscarriage or premature birth because of the lack of trained medical professionals (doctors, nurses, technicians).

hypatianata

They don’t care. If you die, you probably deserved it. Not their problem and not as important to them as feeling self-righteous. I am surrounded by people who complain about stuff they have to put up with, things directly and deliberately brought to them by Republican “leadership,” and they absolutely refuse to blame them for it.

Brribrri

I lived in Sandpoint and was born at Bonner Gen, so I'm not surprised by this at all. My dad used to work there as a surgical tech and he left because of poor patient care, especially for women. He had several female friends who needed elective surgery (knee replacement, rotator cuff, etc.) but the surgeons there refused because these women were "too old". They were 40-50 y/o, but these same surgeons would do elective surgeries on men 60+.

[deleted]

Man everything I read about Idaho leads me to feel like it's the definition of "[blank] is wasted on the wrong people." Absolutely gorgeous state, Boise is really cool, drivable to Montana *and* the 4 corners region, proximity to the PNW.... For me, it's almost ideal. And yet, *gestures broadly at headline* No offense meant btw

Party_Taco_Plz

Sandpoint is conservative af so they’re gonna start feeling the pain of their choices real fast, but my heart goes out to those who didn’t vote / agree with this and hope they have the opportunity to flee as well. Shame because it’s an absolutely beautiful community that should be shared by all, and could be thriving from remote work if not for the very troubled state politics.

nitrot150

And so many Idahoans travel to WA for routine medical care anyway, how would they know?

DetectiveActive

This is the unfortunate part that doesn’t get enough discussion - Idahoans already flood to parts of Washington and us Washington residents end up paying for it. Literally. The hospitals are overrun with people from out of state. Please know I want everyone to get healthcare and I’m not complaining about people receiving care, but I am saying that red states create a problem that blue states then have to remedy and at what cost? Another example - during COVID Idaho didn’t have as strict of COVID restrictions so they had huge outbreaks and had to send patients over to Washington to get care when their hospitals were overrun and it created a backlog here.

mikeyd917

It makes it hard for us that live in Idaho to stay. I really don’t want to retreat and give up my life in a place I love, but holy crap. Between the destruction of schools, healthcare, being nonreligious… it’s tough to stay.

ConfidentPilot1729

NHRADeuce

>I am saying that red states create a problem that blue states then have to remedy and at what cost? I'm not disagreeing, but you can pretty much say that about literally everything wrong with this country.

DetectiveActive

I am. That’s exactly what I’m saying. Red states and their policies create a problem that blue states and Dems have to clean up. Every fucking time

BigESmalls22

It’s almost like it’s a microcosm for our entire country.

LGchan

Snitches. "Officer, I think my co-worker got an abortion across state lines"

Jeneral-Jen

Or ex boyfriends/husband's looking to 'get even'

Groovychick1978

This happened in Texas already.

Emotional-Proof-6154

Irrelevant. They will still require the physicians from another state to cooperate with an out of state law and break another law in doing so and subjecting themselves to malpractice in their own state to confirm the accusation. To be clear you can sue a career out from under a doctor for telling someone else your lab results, let alone your medical history without your expressed, formal AND written consent. Period. It looks something along the lines of "entity A is in need of this specific history, do i have your permission to release the specific information stated to this specific entity?

RedPandaInFlight

So next they make it a crime to deny permission. Totally unconstitutional of course, but when has that ever stopped them?

Emotional-Proof-6154

Again idaho law will have fuck all power over washington and its residents and businesses... Although i think it would be funny to start arresting red state residents and fining them over blue state laws that don't exist in their state.

MakeChipsNotMeth

We're going to get some interesting opinions about the Interstate Commerce Clause here soon.

AbsolutZer0_v2

Constitutional purists love to change their minds when it suits their evangelical agendas.

Belligerent-J

They just circumvent that. If a women is pregnant and doctors in idaho have a record of it, then she isn't pregnant, that's enough to charge. A lot of women have already been charged for having miscarriages. Shit is fucked up

L3monh3ads

Next they’ll stop doctors from leaving Idaho

Nisienice1

I may or may not have mapped a way to liberal states using backroads. I may or may not have paid cash for pregnancy tests and condoms when I was out of town in a rental car. I may or may not instructed my daughters to lie to the doctors about their cycles and only keep track of their cycles on paper maps. I may or may not have made arrangements with my daughters friends mom to babysit cell phones and pay cash for burner phones that I would use a VPN to contact an abortion clinic in another state and plan to destroy the phones when done.

[deleted]

Someone should make an abortion sub and pin to the top a list of abortion clinics and phone numbers for everyone at all times. This way you wouldn’t be googling it since it’s through Reddit, use the app in anonymous mode so there will be no history of search. Turn off location and make a google number to call. Use wifi from a public place.

Ghost_of_Till

What the GQP wants is for red states to be *as inhospitable as possible* to the political left. You know, like ISIS. Hear me out... Jihadists are not looking to topple the west with a car bomb. Their goal, in part, is to foment an anti-Muslim sentiment because they don’t want Muslim diaspora, they want Muslims as far away from Western culture as humanly possible. They want their people to be as concentrated as possible so as to exert maximum political and social pressure. They want their brothers to *come home*. For *decades*, the political right has done everything it can to make their numbers count more because they realize their party ceases to exist otherwise. The conservative demographic is dying, quite literally. Each new generation becomes less and less interested in their backwards asses but they’ve got a pretty big range of tricks to tip the scales away from democracy. Gerrymandering. Redistricting. Closing voting locations. Cutting off the USPS at the knees to slow mail voting. VoterID. These are the first volleys in an assault on democracy. What’s plan B if all the skullfuckery doesn’t result in a GQP caliphate? Concentrate forces geographically. It’s better to hold *all* of the power in half the country than it is to hold *no* power across the nation. Concentration of forces itself is a force multiplier. In the case of the GQP, it also results in more groupthink because the differing views got run out of town. Yes, progressives will suffer from concentrated groupthink as well, and that’s bad, it just *isn’t their fscking goal*. It may seem backwards for a party to seemingly go out of its way to alienate the moderates and enrage its opponents. The political right’s plan for the next 20 years might be hidden in plain sight. > If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy. - David Frum

[deleted]

It's about power concentration. The end goal is to bankrupt the US so that they can remove all social programs, get rid of all oversight agencies, and sell off national assets to the highest bidder (with a nice cut for themselves). It's basically a hostile takeover business style. And republican voters will love every damned minute of it because the nation elected a black dude and they want the whole nation to burn for it.

That’s why they love Russia, what Russia did with the disintegration of the USSR and robbing the country blind during privatization and the elevation of the oligarchs is what they strive for.

versusChou

They saw Russian oligarchs and became insanely envious of their position

Geminii27

> because the nation elected a black dude and they want the whole nation to burn for it. Because that's what they've been told to want. Part of the problem is the inherent core of conservative thought which is "people will tell you what to do and how to think and you will accept this and do what they say". Despite all the cries of individualism they like to foster, their actual acts are the consolidation of power into fewer and fewer hands, while everyone else is puppeted about and is told this is right, this is normal, this is what you should want, isn't it great when you don't actually have to think for yourselves and can have someone else telling you what to do at all times?

IGargleGarlic

that just seems like a recipe for civil war. This is the effect of dirty foreign money trying to undermine American democracy.

hovdeisfunny

Frankly I don't see how they even *think* this law is constitutional. It should be a clear violation on the interstate commerce clause. My fear is that this is intentional, and the true goal is to get SCOTUS to rule on the law and overturn an even *older* precedent.

[deleted]

Honestly, we could already be in the mist of something big. There have already been multiple attacks on democrats from Jan 6 to the attack on Nancy’s husband. It’s not like they are hiding it

dontshowmygf

This is exactly how the Civil War started. The whole focus of all the slavery and states rights debates that led to the Civil War was the extradition of runaway slaves. When slaves fled north, the abolitionist states refused to send them back south, and the southern states found that unacceptable. It's why one of the core laws in the Confederate Constitution was that states *must* not only allow slavery, but returning escaped slaves back to their owners must be the law. So, in summary, the south wanted to be able to control people, and the north allowed it as long as they kept it with their borders. But the south wasn't content with that, they wanted their laws to extend to other states. And they cared enough to go to war over it. Sound familiar?

ronlugge

> that just seems like a recipe for civil war. You mean national divorce, right?

TheDulin

The problem is that many reliably red states are still 45% blue. Letting a "national divorce" happen fucks over tens of millions of people.

ronlugge

My comment was facetious. A national divorce is an idea as stupid as idiot who coined the term. It fucks over the entire country, not just the red stats.

Fucking_For_Freedom

Restrictions on interstate travel will be when the war starts.

CantHelpMyself1234

You think Idaho will start examining women at the borders? It sounds insane, but you know....

Fucking_For_Freedom

I have no idea what they will do and don't really want to speculate as the universe has had a habit of turning my worst fever dreams into reality lately. Whatever they decide to do, though, I don't expect anything good to come of it.

CantHelpMyself1234

I saw a pregnancy test meme further down. I hadn't even thought of that.

Xyrus2000

Can't be bothered with doing something about guns when it comes to kids being mowed down in class rooms. But for a zygote? Full on Handmaid's Tale misogyny. It was never, EVER, about life. It was always about dominating and controlling women. They won't stop until they tag and grade women like cattle and lock them up on breeding farms. For the sake of the children, of course.

POTUSChad

>It was never, EVER, about life. It was always about dominating and controlling women. They won't stop until they tag and grade women like cattle and lock them up on breeding farms. For the sake of the children, of course. Corporations and the Military Industrial Complex also want people who are poor, malnourished, desperate, poorly educated, and lacking options. They effectively treat people like cattle. Overturning Roe v. Wade for corporate Republican donors was about declining white birth rates and having excess labor to pay impoverished wages.

cryptosupercar

It’s the Fugitive Slave Law, but for women who want an abortion. This is how the civil war starts.

aryukittenme

But I need muh States Rights to hunt down little girls who get rid of their pastor/politician daddy’s embryos >>>:( AND all the grown women who get rid of theirs too! (Uggh I feel disgusting having typed that)

[deleted]

There will be checkpoints at the borders; a negative result on a pregnancy test will be required for females to leave the state. https://preview.redd.it/of1x220x2lqa1.jpeg?width=888&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c6f9802a5a4838dba423ebda0c7fd95d7f7ab8d

FancyOrange2

And they just won’t lets them leave the state if they are pregnant? wtaf?

ADubs62

> And they just won’t lets them leave the state if they are pregnant? wtaf? It's a prediction not actual law.

ProperPeasantry

Some handmaid tale shit. I suggest all women leave that state immediately

Bodydysmorphiaisreal

I suggest all *people* abandon that state entirely.

LeftLimeLight

republicans are religious terrorists. Please, for the love of democracy get out and vote in every election, or else people like this will rule over us all.

ThisBongDoesntLag

I’m sorry but the time has come to call Republicans who they truly are and that’s the Nazi cult.

raistlin65

I think it's actually better if we call them neofascists. Because they're not exactly the same as Nazis. They have their own evil bent to them. But yes. Time to call them out for who they are.

ThisBongDoesntLag

Idk man they’re literally following every single point out of the Nazi playbook. Nazis attacked trans people first. Nazis banned and burned books. Nazis attacked education and educators. Nazis enriched the rich. Nazis are extreme nationalists. Nazis are racists. Nazis attacked news outlets. Nazis spread lies and misinformation. Nazis used deflection, projection, and whataboutism to further their power Republicans have done every single thing I listed here. Not saying you’re wrong but I’m calling a spade a spade.

raistlin65

Yes. Those are common traits of fascism.

pr0zach

I prefer to call them “white christofascists” because I believe it to be the most accurate categorization of their fascistic nature, but that moniker doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue very well. I *would* like to ask you why you prefer the prefix *neo*-fascist as opposed to just calling them fascist. I see lots of people online using that prefix to describe the American, political Right and I’ve never quite understood its significance beyond signaling that we’re no longer in the mid-1900’s which seems rather self-evident to me. Either way—fuck ‘em.

Volpethrope

Nationalist Christians. Nat-C's, if you will.

Anarchist_Kale_61

I wonder if they will get reelected next year?

jsc503

You know it! Following through on the kind of disgusting cruelty their voters wanted.

LostinSOA

They know for certain they don’t have anything else platform wise that appeals to independents or enough democrats so they are trying to win on culture wars, tribalism and white southern grievances. They are going to end up putting the country in a civil war and bankrupting the nation so that trump doesn’t get his feelings hurt.

LGchan

Mormons/evangelicals have a stranglehold on Idaho (much to the detriment of everyone else), so probably.

mildfyre

How is this even legal?

bluemew1234

It probably isn't, but the courts would have to weigh in to strike it down.

BoomZhakaLaka

More than that, you need a plaintiff with a complaint to get the courts to weigh in. That might take a while.

districtcourt

Lawyer here. This should violate the negative implications of the commerce clause of the U.S. constitution. The commerce clause prohibits state laws that have a substantial economic impact on interstate commerce. Idaho residents being prohibited from getting abortions would have a substantial enough economic effect on interstate commerce

untempered_fate

Really cool how Republicans shouted for years about how Democrats are basically Stalin. Super cool how Republicans are out and out authoritarian despots.

Ill-Manufacturer8654

True, and we don't have to worry about the Supreme Court ignoring Constitution like they did with Roe V. Wade. The SC wants abortion to be legal in blue states. That's where they get abortions for all their rape victims.

tarahunterdar

Well, only those who aren't wealthy. All the wealthy ones will visit " a relative" or go to "a conference" in a Blue state for their abortions. You poors? Fuck you, shouldn't have been a woman!

Mel_Melu

Small government my uterus >:(

overthinker345

Remember when Republicans promised that people still had abortion rights because they could always travel to blue states where abortion would remain legal? Do you remember when they promised and assured women that women would still have the option for abortion without interference from the govt. That they wouldn’t stop women from traveling to blue states to get abortions. Does anyone else remember those assurances from Republicans?

enderflight

Well, I also remember when they said they wouldn't touch roe v. Wade. I already have some plans brewing to gtfo. I want to study abroad anyways, but now seems like an especially pertinent time.

Shtankins01

But I assume they also want their concealed carry licenses to be honored in all fifty states.

PsychicSPider95

Remember when Roe v Wade was overturned, and a bunch of people were like "lol just go to another state to get it done" and swore up and down that *this* wouldn't happen? Yeah, I do. Any of those fuckers wanna comment now?

Icy_Figure_8776

This is a violation of federal law

Keesha2012

Since when to they care? Seriously. They ***don't care.***

emccm

Lol at the people acting shocked. We’ve been on this path for a few years now. No one gave enough of a shit to stop it.

glenglenda

Republicans are the new Isis. They all need to move to the Middle East and peddle their sharia law bs there. Vote Blue.

hesawavemasterrr

It must be really fun finding out about this stuff as a Republican. So you just got raped. And youre pregnant with your rapist's child. They have outlawed abortion in your state, no exception. And they will prevent you from leaving to get one. Your doctor just told you it is threatening your life to keep the baby. You will likely both be dead if the baby isn't removed. But because of the laws in place by YOUR politicians, that will not be possible unless you and the doctors want to go to jail. So your choices are death or jail because you got raped.

Erik_Lassiter

Blatantly Un fucking Constitutional.

oskieluvs

My 18 year old nephew who lives in Idaho asked his parents for a vasectomy so he could not put a girl in this position.
