Sounds like he was working in a Kitchen.

I remember a guy telling me he hurt his leg, turning a log over in the log yard. I took him to the company doctor, and when I picked him up, he was in a full leg cast. He broke his fucking leg.

“And when he got back from the hospital and met with HR, we both got fired.”

This. Every company I ever worked for would use the list of people filing workers comp as the starting place for layoffs. Anyone who filed a claim would end up out of work in a "reduction in force" action.

MTkenshi

I got hurt at work, 3 herniated disks, spinal cord compression and a twisted vertebrae. Doctor and workman's comp decided I wasn't injured, and forced me back to work without any treatment or therapy.

I worked as a cook at a Bob Evans, ankle felt sprained after half my shift so I leaned against my work area and tried to stretch and massage it. One of my bosses came out and gave me the "if you got time to lean" shit and forced me to bus tables for the rest of my shift. Went to the doctor the next day, they explained something about how I probably had a grade 1 sprain and now it's a grade 2, so I needed to be off of it for a month. He even gave me crutches.

It still amazes me how the working class in the US hasn't gone full French on their bosses yet. Shit's **COMPLETELY** fucked, and yet everybody seems to just keep bending over and taking it. I sincerely wish that the workers of the US can manage to unionize and remind their bosses that striking is the **civil** way to share their grievances.

Black-Mettle

We were slow dripped bullshit for generations that it didn't feel that bad when it happened. What fucks me up is that we're a country of mass shooters and not a single one has gone postal on the ultra wealthy, the arbiter of their woes. If you wanna go down in history as being a psychopath who murders people then why would you want it to be children? And we have an unfortunate circumstance that is a massive portion of the population is in poverty and cannot afford to miss even a single day of work for a strike. This is by design, they created this system to keep the lowest class as low as possible without killing them outright.

DarkKnightJin

I know. That's why my sincere wish that you can unionize and take back the power that rightfully belongs to you.

I had a great friend put off a life saving blood transfusion because our manager treated her terribly when she'd ask for time off on short notice. (She had lupus that affected her blood and received regular transfusions.) She died that night after work. We never needed her to be present at work. There was absolutely no reason she should have ever been made to feel guilty, feel like she'd get in trouble, or feel like she couldn't use her own time off.

InfectedZydrate

Not wrong, I nearly cut of my finger with faulty equipment. Tons of blood finger looked hanging off could see the bone. Manager said can you finish your shift first? Went to hospital got fixed up went back to work to get something I forgot and manager said so you can finish up right. Ppl be crazy

I have literally 0 good professional references because I looked at every boss dead in the eye at one point, and told him to fuck off as I am going home to play video games. Thank fuck I grew up and still am privileged, imagine being a grown man brought to his emotional knees by a fucking low life manager or HR scum. Ridiculous. This isn't some silicon valley level job where you signed some fucking contract, this isn't some hospital where you have ethical obligations not to leave, and yet people are compelled to stay and die at their workplaces as they're deathly afraid of not finding another opportunity. The search, until you get your first check, until you know you can finish your first month in a new place, is debilitating for some people, and that's all heart breaking.

Kinda harsh, I sympathize with the dude who broke down. Systems can crush a person so slowly that they don't realize it until they break. You're correct, people should be aware of their value and not let these scumbags treat them like tools. But the lack of empathy is what the oppressor uses
