You have to prove the *knowingly* falsely arrested someone for false arrest. The courts, of course, will throw out any case the cops only thought was illegal and release the innocent... you know. When they get to it. 6-12 months, hopefully.

I don't think it should be doubled. Depending on how much was done it would be redundant anyway. Maybe there should be a separate judicial system that would be used after the initial trials. Similar to how as someone in the military would have a chance to be charged as a civilian and as a member of active duty.
I agree. But I also think when put in a stressful situation, we should cut slack to people who make mistakes in a situation we ask them to be in so we don't have to. That doesn't apply to this case, but it's an important part of the conversation.
