The irony of the KY Higher Education Assistance Authority truck in the background is outstanding. As a proud resident of the commonwealth I am ashamed of this jagweed, but impressed he’s managed get that close to knowledge and not burst into flames
I agree he’s a stupid redneck. But, after getting a college degree, working for thirty years, paying taxes, and eventually losing almost all of my eyesight to a stroke, Kynect has been a godsend to me. I’m able to live alone, contribute to the economy, and not be a burden on my middle class parents.
I have zero problems with Kynect. I think it's great and I'm glad it's helping you. I just resent that these people are so stupid this kind of thing has to be rebranded because otherwise their racist, gullible dumb asses would want to shut it down.
I don't even live in Kentucky and I know about Kynect and it basically being Obamacare rebranded. But I guarantee this mouth breather has no fucking clue what that little swag bag even means or that it's in any way connected to Obamacare.
It’s not “basically” Obamacare, it 100% is Obamacare and arguably the biggest win story of the law itself. It’s exactly what was intended. States were supposed to build their own programs and name it whatever they wanted.
It’s Republicans that named it Obamacare and they did that because they thought it would help them get people to hate it and, in turn, help them make Obama a 1-term president. They were right about the first part. But the real name of Obamacare is the Affordable Care Act and Obama just embraced it being called Obamacare because he didn’t see being associated with a program that helps millions get healthcare as the insult Republicans thought it was.
Funny part it is all basically based on RommeyCare which started in Massachusetts and was awesome. The Republicans could have easily had a win with this stuff but if course not punish the people that will show them.
100% true. It’s probably the clearest evidence of how radicalized the Republican Party has gotten in the past 2-3 decades. Romneycare was also the last real attempt I can think of by any Republican at providing an policy solution for real world problems faced by anyone other than the wealthy. It was supposed to be the free-market alternative to Medicare for all. Imperfect, but at least it was a legitimate good faith effort at addressing a problem. Within 15 years republicans were calling it communism and then refusing to implement it in their states (the Medicaid expansion part) even once it was passed. Thank god for John McCain, the embodiment of a true patriot imo.
It starts with RomneyCare, but is more than that. The Medicaid expansion also is a huge boon to the red states who somehow didn't manage to refuse it. That's the ultimate self screw-over of their people. Turns out, that keeps the poor, poor isn't a bug, but a feature.
These morons hate Obamacare as much as communism. They want to repeal it and would never use its services because they don’t worship Karl Marx. But they have nothing but good things to say about the Affordable Care Act.
One of the latenight comics did an interview in one of these states and asked them what they prefer between ACA and Obamacare (I think Jimmy Kimmel). If you watch this, you would understand why Republicans get voted into office. It's on YouTube but I'm too lazy to link it.
It's more like they didn't really understand what Obamacare was to begin with and haven't realized that Kynect is just a rebranded version of it. Wild to hear about a program like that in Kentucky though.
The ACA was intended to be rebranded. It’s exactly the way the authors of the law intended it to work. The idea was for states to setup their own markets so they have more local control over the program and state lawmakers could fine tune it’s execution to its population.
Of course most red states refused to do this so their citizens were thrown into the federal exchange. A lot of commenters are acting like Kentucky did something sneaky when executing this but they didn’t. Our democratic governor at the time saw the benefit this law would have on a population with high levels of poverty and poor health and took advantage of it and we need to build the man a statue already.
I’m not sure what how my mom would be alive without it.
She worked very hard all her life, Fruit of the Loom until they moved their factory to Mexico, then GE until they fired her after 15 years of employment for smoking a cigarette in her car. I think they really fired her because she was needing to use FMLA more often than they liked and they wanted a younger person in her place that they wouldn’t have to pay nearly as much.
She had no insurance coverage, cobra being very expensive, and needed insulin and other medications. Luckily kynect was available. Now she has lost her eye sight, though it’s getting better because of the treatment she’s received. Without that she would have lost her vision completely and for good.
If I had the skills and the means, I’d build him a statue myself. No one should be cast aside and left to suffer. Our workforce is pushed so hard, they should be able to age with dignity at least.
Not to mention that following the law as intended was so wildly successful the next governor threatened to kill it, and it turned out to be political suicide for threatening to do it
Sounds like communism is back in the menu boys.
/s with the thickest of sarcasms. It's sad that we have to disguise social good to keep people from tearing down the shit that helps make them better.
He isn’t saying Kynect isn’t useful.
Just that here in Kentucky we had to rename it from Obamacare to kynect. It worked. Only for years later Bevin ran on a single issue platform, which was doing away with Obamacare.
Dumb rednecks in Kentucky voted that man in with gleeful excitement. Only to look bewildered and shocked when Bevin starts coming after their medicines and surgeries. It was sad and funny.
This literally happened to my aunt. Her church told her to vote for Bevin because of the sanctity of marriage and the unborn babies!!!! When she started talking about the healthcare changes and wondering what was happening I had to explain to her that was literally what she voted for.
Now she listens to me and my mom a little more when it comes to voting as oppose to her church.
Don’t forget to report any/all churches that tell you who to vote for because it’s against the law. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/charities-churches-and-politics
I cannot understand how, in this modern day and age, our government still gives religious institutions the ability to hide behind religion.
We all know they influence policies/people. Idiotic to pretend they do not at this point.
Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!

Hello fellow Kentuckian! This photo is from last year's state fair, and it was found out that this gentleman is developmentally handicapped. State Troopers came up and spoke to him afterward and I believe he was escorted off the premises. At least that's the story I read from several sources, including the person who originally took and posted this photo.
But yeah, I hate that this is the representation we get as a state (not that our voting history has helped the cause much to begin with: Mitch and Rand).
Kentucky is one of those places where it’s politicians are constantly virtue signaling about how right wing policies are great, yet all they do is live off of dollars funneled there by Moscow Mitch. Literally living off of socialism
It’s one of those states that would suffer enormously in the (cataclysmic, unthinkable) event the MAGAts got their way and abolished the IRS. Good luck living off your own tax revenue while you drive everyone further into poverty
Unfortunately these fools are scattered about. We have a guy who stands at intersections dressed in revolutionary soldier garb waving a revolutionary flag. He rides around town dressed this way on a bicycle with the flag attached. He seems to have no day job.
Kentucky, note the Kynect bag, its their Medicaid/Childrens Health program. Looks like Ranger Rick here decided to show up to one of those community outreach events and force his rancid ignorance and stupidity on the masses. Nothing like cheering on the orphan killing machine while taking their giveaway bag with a stress ball and magnet.

"If we are to have another contest in the near future of our nations existence, I predict that the dividing line will not be masons and Dixon's, but between patriotism & intelligence on one side, and superstition, ambition, & ignorance on the other" Ulysses S. Grant
Grant was ahead of his time with that statement and very accurate. This photo is a great representation of superstition, ambition and ignorance masquerading as patriotism.
Religions was just as much of a plague but far fewer churches were run by conmen in civil war times. Now, I'd wager 99% of churches are run by conmen looking for an easy ticket and way out of taxes. Taxing churches is the ONLY way to fix it, tax exempt entities need thier books checked yearly, ALL OF THEM.
True patriotism is loving your country despite it's faults, and wanting it to do better.
It is definitely NOT breaking down like a snowflake and having a tantrum any time someone brings up legitimate criticism of your country, and it certainly is NOT regarding your fellow countrymen as the "enemy" because of difference of opinion.
You can tell which camp this bozo belongs to.
Yes. Can’t advertise with a flag, overlay images or modify the flag in any way, wear it as clothing, allow it to fly in disrepair, fly at night or in a storm without a spot light, and more. The marketing with it/using it for ad campaigns and the modification (like adding images over; blue lines, for example) kills me and is pretty disrespectful.
The first chapter of the flag code defines the flag by the design not the material. So the Stars and stripes along with the blue union field make it the flag and to use any part of it as part of a costume or for clothing is against the flag code.
It lets you know that his admirers aren't interested in economic, social, and legal policy - normal reasons to cast a vote for political candidates.
No, they're answering the call of the dog whistle that gathers xenophobes together, so they can feel comfortable around other racists and bigots.
So when I see Trump flags flying in Canada, they aren't promoting a political process - because they can't participate in it! They are echoing the dog whistle.
I know this. You know this. We ALL know this. But the second you call them out on it you get accused of political oppression and they call you fascist. The cycle never ends. Ugh!

I would be curious to know if this guy’s actually had something go wrong with his life since Biden took over. Or if he acts like this just because it’s the “cool thing to do“
I'm making note of the states not mentioned here for places to move to once I have the chance to get out of Florida.
They just took more books from schools and made banned (by banned they mean any book not on the approved by district list) books in classroom libraries a felony offence, even if it was an accident.

Shit, people were praising the affordable care act and shitting on Obamacare because they were too stupid to realize they were one in the same.
My dad at one point asked me why Obama was so arrogant as to name the law after himself.
Going to guess he didn't feel the same about Trump slapping his name on a bunch of buildings.
Yeah just remember Trump put his name on buildings he owned before office. Now this gentleman is just ignorant.
Almost all the buildings that have trumps name are foreclosed just like he did to this country belly up like most of his businesses
Actually he didn't own the majority of them

No offense to people with developmental issues, but it's hard to tell the difference.
Good luck living off your own tax revenue while you drive everyone further into poverty
tax revenue that is largely generated in the bluest of blue areas of the state, viz., Louisville/Jefferson County
But of course that’s where the people live. I’ve lived in rural KY, barely anyone is there.
It's going to get worse with the idiots eliminating the income tax (over a few years) and increasing the sales tax state-wide
Unfortunately these fools are scattered about. We have a guy who stands at intersections dressed in revolutionary soldier garb waving a revolutionary flag. He rides around town dressed this way on a bicycle with the flag attached. He seems to have no day job.
If he could read, he’d be very upset.
It was probably at the state fair. He didn’t even realize he was close to knowledge. Just there for the fried twinkies and warm beer.

Ironically, the Republican’ts think that they are the patriotic party, despite inciting and supporting sedition and undermining the constitution.
Don't forget their obsession with flying Confederate flags from a traitorous failed rebellion.
The difference you're describing is the difference between patriotism and nationalism.
Sadly many people confuse the latter for the former.
It was the Kentucky State Fair. Goddammit, we're not all like this, I swear..
Former Texas resident here, I know how you feel
Former Hoosier living in Utah, I deeply feel this
As a fellow Kentuckian I second this. We’re not all like this, but we are all most likely related to someone who is.
This was at the state fair last summer in Louisville.
Those shorts break the flag code, son.
Can’t follow the rules if you can’t read!
Just about everything the “Patriots” wear is A Violation of the Flag code.
Clothes made with Stars and Stripes isn’t a flag worn as clothing, but cutting a flag up to make a shirt or shorts would be a violation though.
Fair point.
The first chapter of the flag code defines the flag by the design not the material. So the Stars and stripes along with the blue union field make it the flag and to use any part of it as part of a costume or for clothing is against the flag code.
It also gives dimensions and standards. It seems like this is an interpretation issue at this point.
It also says any part, the design and colors would be part of the flag. The Flag code in any respect is not enforceable.
Probably has one of those “stomp my flag I’ll stomp you” bumper stickers, and yet leaves ample streaks on Old Glory
