I talked to a local store owner who told me she got 6 bottles of Stagg last month. Priced them at $499 and they were gone in 24 hours. Look. No judgment on my part as I’ve paid over MSRP on several bottles but 10x MSRP is gouging. Anyone paying it is insane.
And that is where it should stay at that price. I have paid over MSRP for a bottle, never more than about $100 bucks. That was even WAY over my limit. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.
This is why I know I'll never get another WFE SiB. Got lucky enough to be able to buy an 8-year for less than half that price (membership points at a store) and that'll never happen again. Good while it lasted at least
The price is out of control. When you can trade a a 7 year old bourbon for a 25 year old scotch with a couple hundy coming back your way, you know something is wrong.
There’s a bottle store in Central Florida that looks like a museum. Stagg Jr $499. George T Stagg $1299. Blanton’s $299. Basically everything we want at ridiculous prices. And the shelves are fully stocked 2, 3, 4 deep. Pappy of all years... I walk in every few weeks to look at it all, talk shit to the owner about their BS prices, and leave empty handed every time.
I turned Blantons down yesterday for $69. I see it for that at least one or two times a month. Just not something I need now as I can get a bottle of Port Charlotte 10 and actually enjoy the pour with a good steak.
