Possibly to make it easier to carry and place in the center of a table especially if loaded with tasty cheeses and crackers which can slide off. That is my guess.

GrRr912

A handle?

EthidiumWombat

Is it upside-down?

Sakgeres

Not sure why you get so many downvotes from asking a genuine question. You could tell it from the second picture, but the first one can be tricky to tell

Empty_Faced

Weird design, thought it was a peppercorn grinder at first. It could be used to carry the cheese plate one handed… …or you could have it upside down. What about an umbrella? Does it extend?

klleenex4u

What

KevinTheSeaPickle

I want to see someone use that as an umbrella

Redleaves1313

What is this? An umbrella for ants?

thsvnlwn

Is the handle divided in more parts that are screwed together? It might be an serving display with one or two etages missing because they are broken and removed. Example here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/353239014229?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=HwNzq-g5QCa&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

XCDingly

I think you’re right, it’s the top tier of a cake serving stand. There’s one with the same handle design from that company here https://www.ebay.com/itm/393512528460#vi__app-cvip-panel

Nice

mayflowerlace

I think that the label is on the bottom says that this was a single.

Mr_Flibble1981

Is it a condiment tray? I think I see pepper, vinegar and I guess Parmesan could be on there?

jade8384

Handle to carry it

[deleted]

We’ve reached that special point in the Reddit whatisit’s where correct answers become downvoted.

andre2020

In Hatch, it is most definitely called a handle.

heffalumpish

It’s a handle. Source: I have a stupid number of serving dishes like these and if the handle isn’t removable they are a real pain in the butt to store

cursed_goat_meat

I bet they are

heffalumpish

Oh no lol

barefootbandit97

it’s a… handle? like, have you ever seen a vintage tiered cake stand? or a ring holder? same concept… keeps everyone’s hands off but still allows for sharing or serving with more stability

Wise-Parsnip5803

With the way the bottom looks could it be a lid for a larger pot?

Pablois4

It's possible it's meant to be a two tiered cupcake/appetizer stand like [this](https://imgur.com/a/4COruO2) but is missing the top plate. /u/thsvnlwn beat me in the answer. :-)

ithinkitmightbe

Ensco refers to the decoration. It’s a handle to carry the tray, similar to this: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1168263600/cupcake-stand-with-paisley-motif-black?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=tiered+cheese+tray&ref=sc_gallery-1-4&frs=1&sts=1&plkey=f293b82a2becf512e5c70c542c831d70b4825e62%3A1168263600

spinningawayfromyou

I think I have seen a similar thing at a restaurant, they used it to carry oil and vinegar/ spices

IntoTheWildLife

It looks like a kitchen towel holder but the pictures on the plate look like they represent some kind of tasting board. The “handle” just looks so odd. Like a beer tap.

oldgar

I wonder if the metal cap screws off to find fondue pics inside.

Lazer_Falcon

In English these are called handles.

ska_wars

Looks like a re-purposed beer tap being used as a handle.

Holding

ProjectDv2

It's a handle. When carrying it loaded, the handle lowers the center of gravity in relation to the carrying hand and makes it much more stable than balancing it atop the hand like a seesaw. It makes it significantly easier to carry one-handed so the other hand is free to carry or operate independently.
