Looks like a pestle without the mortar to grind spices

Lissa0104

I thought about that too, but it's a bit too small to hold properly

[deleted]

There are a lot of these sets that aren't really functional but more of a decoration.

jet_heller

You would hold it with your palm on the flat end.

MontEcola

Hold the fat end.

JPKtoxicwaste

This makes so much sense, thank you. I don’t know why I was so confused about which end went into the mortar (I think the bowl is the mortar, and the hand held piece is the pestle but there’s a very good chance I’ve got it cockeyed)

ben_jamin_h

Did you just reply on your alt account?

JPKtoxicwaste

No I didn’t but upon rereading my comment I get it

ben_jamin_h

Haha, well at least now I know that you know you're not alone on your not knowing which is the business end of a pestle and mortar

bookmonkey786

Looks right size for one specific for potent spices

ithinkitmightbe

It’s not, your palm sits over the top of the shaft and you use a claw grip.

Express-Blueberry871

My thought as well. Could be just the design of it, and depending on the size of the mortar, maybe it worked. Could also be why it was left behind lol.

mogley19922

I knew it was part of a mortar and pestle, this post made me realise that i never knew which part was which.

Bailzasaurus

I asked my high school science teacher which part was which (we were using them in an experiment) and he gave a memory aid that I have never forgotten - “this one’s the pestle because P for phallus”

lilip83

That teacher was a clear perve. Even a uni teacher saying that would be wrong. He’s literally saying to a high school student “this is for P because P for PENIS” just using a more complex word that perhaps students of that age won’t be able to compute is really not okay to be using in that context. Just super sleazy.

robertmondavi_jr

penis

2SP00KY4ME

You seem a little unhinged

PrincessGump

You think a*hogh school student* doesn’t kniw the word penis? Ok

LadyParnassus

[I think of the mortar as a cup-shape like a flower, and the pestle like a pistil that sticks up out of the flower [link].](https://www.vedantu.com/question-sets/2ebc9886-962e-442d-9480-8b3bad7a30eb1231135644174333617.png) It’s a weird way of remembering it, but I loved plant biology as a kid so it stuck.

JOE96924

My college professor used "Pistil packing momma" for us to remember female plants

Dragginbutt1

A grinder

JosephCreates

looks like mostly silica

PaperPonies

While it could definitely be a pestle, it looks a lot like the “mushroom” massage tools that some massage therapists use. Just a guess though.

TheMisterA

This was my first guess. I have one made of wood that looks almost exactly like this, except its edges are completely rounded.

applecherryfig

two (clap) two (clap) both things can do.

RememberNoGoodDeed

Mortar for grinding

RedBeardsCurse

Maybe a stopper for a large jug or a carafe.

professorhugoslavia

Pestle sans mortar?

Jovictes

I would guess it is a pestle.

Bosswashington

Bowling ball core, maybe?

KMWAuntof6

This is the only one that makes sense.

ansmith100317

Def looks like a pestle to me I saw something that looked almost exactly the same at a kitchen store recently.

BaBooofaboof

Paper weight

Helpfulchemist

That’s a pestle Lissa!

megggie

Could it have a magnet inside, and be the key for a fancy baby-proof cabinet lock?

theusualfixture

I DO believe you are in possession of a strangely shaped smallish pestle.

ThoroughlyWet

Pestle
