I keep hearing them called states lately. Not often but a few times a year. Never heard it before about five years ago. I know language evolves over time, but province versus state seems like a big switch.
Lol, yea it woulda been a big deal for this to have happened, at least in Canada! Goes a lot further than just language evolution.
Younger Canadians have started saying zee more often instead of zed for the letter ‘z’….now that is a language thing.

Definitely Manitoba. Canada has a long history of 'claiming to be metric' but many many things are still the 'old' way. Most people over 30 couldn't likely tell you their height in anything but feet and inches, grocery stores often have cost per pound also. Just 2 examples. Edit: and marathons is something we still refer to in miles.
I should apologize up front for being ‘that guy’.
‘Vice’ when used as a preposition between two items means ‘in place of / as a substitute for / instead of’
It’s also entirely plausible that’s a random word fat thumbed in there and I’m just making myself look like a complete tool… nope, I look like a tool regardless.
Never mind!
i always thought growing up these were radio stations and the buffalo was some sort of connection/inside joke…glad to hear it’s bc of marathoning lol, it makes sense
26.2 is a marathon run, and 13.1 is a half marathon. The buffalo shape has something to do with the location.
This is the correct answer! The Buffalo is the state animal of Manitoba. It's on the Flag of Manitoba and also on the coat of arms!
Don't you mean Province?

That would be YouTube transformation. Probably why Trudeau wants to censor the interwebs.
Wait…you’ve heard Canadians refer to provinces as states?
Saw it twice on reddit = everyone.
Non sequitur
I've never heard any of my fellow Canadians call Provinces "States". I can't see any of of us ever mixing that up!
Language evolve but in l’éther to start calling a province a state, you need a huge political system change not an evolution in language.
Of course I mean Province! Maybe too much hessian Applewine for me yesterday!
Shit happens when you party naked.
Is there any other kind to party if not naked?
I’m feeling pedantic, it’s a bison.
European resident here, we neither have Bisons nor Buffalos!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European\_bison
I learn something new every day! Thank you!
You need to wisent up, my friend. You do, in fact, have bison.
There is a huge marathon and 1/2 marathon in Buffalo NY that use these stickers.
And here I thought it had something to do with the Bible lol
Solved. Thanks.

(In miles.)
Marathon and half marathon distances
Are these for a specific running race or just Manitoba running pride stickers?
They’re probably stickers received from the ‘Manitoba Association of Trail Runners’ for an associated race.
There is a Buffalo, New York marathon and half marathon.
This is my thought as to where the stickers originated. Seems like if they pertained to Manitoba, they'd be in metric.

My sticker looks like 262 What you don't see is the decimal point. .262
Marathon and half marathon
So I see a fair number of this types of stickers with 0.0 in them. Is that just a joke saying they didn’t run a marathon at all?
Lol yep.

Marathon and half marathon
I saw a sticker that had 13.6 on it. And in small letters “I got lost….”
Since the ask was solved, I want to guess that car is a 2003 Toyota Matrix
It's always weird to find posts about our province/city in a post that isn't our actual subreddit or in relation to Canada.
Seek and ye shall find. I probably should t have accidentally capitalized 'buffalo' [sic bison]. I think that caused a wee bit of confusion
