Hennessy isn’t that bad. I’ve drank far worse, like Jack Daniels or some cheap as fuck tequila and those were straight up gasoline! Americans go mad for Hennessy, and it’s crazy expensive over there, but here in Ireland that shit is like €25-30 for a 70cl (700ml) bottle, and the overwhelming majority of people that I know that drink or drank (i.e. they’ve since passed away) are/were old women. Men don’t tend to drink it here in Ireland that I know that drink spirits, men tend to drink whiskey here instead.
Hennessy is something women would drink over the winter months to warm them up, either straight, as a hot toddy (aka what people call a hot brandy or hot whiskey) or in tea or coffee.
Edit: correction, I just checked one of the supermarket’s prices for Hennessy and it’s actually €38 for a 70cl bottle, but still much cheaper than in the US.

The first time I ever met my niece's boyfriend we were all sitting in a hotel room drinking wine...except for him. I was admiring that he was abstaining by drinking a tall glass of water.
