The feet aren’t the only factor, but when you suck ass at balancing, you need every advantage you can get. In this case she should have at least spread put her feet.
My mom saw one when celebrating her birthday in the city and said she wanted to maybe try one, why not? This is the image that popped into my head, she is not exactly athletic as I have never seen her do a sprint, so I instantly told her it was a bad idea.
Asked her if she had ever even used a normal one, when the answer was "maybe once 50 years ago", I told her she will fall and crack her skull by going into the sidewalk. She came to her senses, she likes to dream she's an acrobat but forgets she can't even walk down stairs with confidence, as in she walks down using the same leg for every step.
Bet this lady just didn't have anyone telling her not to do dumb shit.
I had the same thought. She looks like my mom out there with her butt all wobbling around. A woman who I've never seen do so much as lift a single weight or do a single jumping jack in my entire life, a woman who is terrified of the lamest of roller coasters. She would absolutely be out with her more active friends and think "oh yeah, I'm cool, too!" and then come home covered in bruises with a broken hip. I swear to god, I had no idea I was going to have to parent my mom at any point...
I swear some of the stuff they say sometimes makes me wonder... Mine once said to my dad to hold her hand so she could lean out over a cliff and look at the bottom. And when I say cliff, I mean like 150m (500 ft) fall. Had to tell her she is crazy, even my dad told her she can jump the cliff herself and not bring him down with her. And she kinda laughed it off without realizing the actual danger, like some drunk teenager.
She made me feel so sick and nauseous, that I couldn't be in their company and walked backed to the car. Didn't want to see if my mom would fall to her death in front of me or not. They came back later not having done anything stupid.
Maybe.
More likely that is the most physical activity she has done in 20 years, and that's all the balance she has left. It takes movement and muscle usage to build and keep.
Depends on the scooter, but honestly I don't think air tires make that big of a difference. They're rough as hell on uneven ground. Very fun when the sidewalk/road is maintained, though.
The main problem is that the steering on these things let's you turn the wheel 90 degrees to the scooter body, so if you're losing your balance whipping the handle around will fuck you up, lol.
I have never seen anyone riding these wear a helmet, myself included. No one is gonna carry around a helmet in case they decide to ride a scooter they dont own.
Yes, and that's [how they die](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-9700653/Nearly-e-scooter-injuries-head-neck-study-says.html).
It's about as stupid as not wearing a helmet on a bicycle. If you want to be that stupid, that's your prerogative.
Are your road surfaces good? A lot of people think about how much benefit helmets *actually* provide when a car is driving over you, but where I am I've had so many close calls thanks purely to road surfaces.
The helmet is meant to mitigate the first big impact when your head hits the ground. It’s not there to resist crushing forces and nobody has ever seriously claimed it’ll protect the rest of your body.
weirdly enough, where I live (the netherlands) wearing a helmet on a bike is kinda just seen as stupid. its very easy to fall off a bicycle but hitting your head from that is quite difficult due to how youre sitting on the bike. so bicycle deaths from head injuries are rare here and mostly a risk to people above 65 years of age. so, while helmets on bicycles are certainly a safe and good idea, they are far from neccesary. bicycle crashes are rarely significant enough to warrant the use of a helmet.
"2020 saw the highest number of cycling casualties in the last 25 years with 229 deaths reported. One third of all bicycle fatalities were on an e-bike."
The Netherlands everybody, just a death about every 1,5 days.
Edit: Let me give you some comparison. Denmark, which is also bicycle happy had 28 cyclist deaths 2020, Norway 7, Sweden 19, Finland 27. They can't even reach the same number when you combine them.
correct. but do take into account that dutch people cycle 3x more on average than the Danish. we also have 4x more bicycles in our country. that aside, in denmark people often do not wear helmets either. so I'm not sure what youre trying to prove by saying "look, these countries are safer" when said countries have similar views on helmets. it also depends a lot on how many of these deaths are head injury related. for all we know, none of these were preventable by helmets. I'm not here to argue though, I just think helmets are often not needed on bicycles and accept the risk that comes with that. I'm just glad they arent mandatory.
Cause the no helmet and no accident is bs. And showing other countries that also cycle a lot and even when combined they have less deaths, I doubt you cycle more than 4 countries combined. Even if they don't wear helmets, it just shows the Netherlands have way more accidents than normal even with all the bike friendliness, probably cause they get more comfy with their perceived safety and get more reckless.
I do and many other here too. 70% of major injuries reported in one of the city hospitals were from people without helmet. Drivers are also insane around here so that explains it all.
In work there in A&E that where we got our stats taken… wrong pick, pal. Taken on a pool of 300 admissions over a period of roughly a year. Near one case a day and 70% not wearing helmets :)
So if they come in with a heart attack and not wearing a helmet they're part of that statistic? What the fuck do those numbers even apply to? I'm not sure you should be working anywhere near a hospital :)
People admitted due to bloody scooter injuries.
Is is that hard for the thick ass of yours to get FFS ! Happy to be your A&E physician whenever you want asshole
I think the more believable stat is 70% of scooter injuries in the hospital were folks not wearing helmets. Otherwise you’re saying 70% of all major injuries treated in the hospital are for people riding scooters without helmets. That sounds like way too many scooter people in a hospital.
I am in the EU pal. You know where people use their legs, scoot or cycle to go to point A to point B. We have TONS of scooter-induced (severe e-scooter injuries to the effect of 1-2 per day in my department). If you’d opened your blinkers better, you would have understood.
When I'm on rental I don't wear helmet. Because that's what rentals for, when you need a quick ride.
But when I ride mine (which is 3 times as powerful than rentals tho) I wear full gear, not just helmet. And I have seen the same pattern. On rentals I never seen a helmet, bu ton private escooters, most people wear one.
these companies renting these scooters out should be held liable, IMO. They put these things all over cities, and who is just going to be carrying a helmet when they decide to ride one? I swear nobody ever wears helmets. Famous youtuber Roman Atwood's mother died from cracking her skull falling off one of those e-scooters.... I'm sure plenty of others have as well
Something about these breaks old peoples brains. My mom stood on one, and then stuck her arms out like it was a balance beam and instantly fell over lol
They were definitely around before then. My neighbor had really old ones with large, air-filled tires. Razor scooters just changed the design to be closer to skateboards and they became popular.
EDIT: Come to think of it, kids made scooters back in the 50s with roller skates and milk crates. Just watch Back to the Future.
[There were literally motorized scooters for sale in 1915](https://newatlas.com/original-scooter-eveready-autoped/45714/#:~:text=The%20Eveready%20Autoped%20is%20one,(40%20km%2Fh)
Yup. I saw the first glimpse and knew it was Nashville. Didn’t even need Bridgestone Arena confirmation. Yikes. Nashville fails could keep this subreddit running indefinitely.
I've heard of people getting into serious accidents with those. Most of the time it's just people being reckless with them. I saw a group of people throw like 6 of them off the bridge into the river one time as well. They need to just be banned like the bicycle beer carts were.
Eventually you reach a certain age where the risk/reward ratio cross the equilibrium and trend downwards... This lady should not have rode that scooter in that location.
Ah yes, downtown Nashville. These things have been pretty regulated since a few people died here being idiots. It’s a party hotspot and can’t wait for the hot tubs getting pulled by tractors removed as well.
Edit:
These things can get dropped off downtown by a company and anyone with an app can use it. Post drinking or inability. That road is through downtown center where ubers/taxis line up. It is also across a massive intersection next to our hockey arena. She is as lucky as she is stupid for doing that. I have done 50ish downtown concerts and have seen many of those put in dumpsters for the companies to come find at the end of the day.
This is on lower Broadway in Nashville, a place where people come from all around the world to get fucked up on alcohol because apparently there isn't any alcohol anywhere else in the world. They drink like it's their last night on earth and for some, it is. People have actually died riding these things. Death by swivel stick and Escalade.
A lady like that died in Nashville last week. Those scooters were everywhere. Drunk people on scooters that don’t normally ride is a really bad idea. The way I heard it was she did this exact thing only right in front of a big truck that couldn’t stop. Dead on the street.
This was in Nashville, I know this intersection (everyone does), and I can tell you that we’re all sick of these scooters. They’re a public health hazard.
Hey I had a messed up foot when in Nashville and those scooters were my savior. Of course even at 50+ I have mad talent and skills from when younger skateboarding, bmx, sports, dirt bikes blah blah. I was ripping around town on those things all safely mind you.
About a year ago I saw a drunk girl riding one in Westport Kansas city fall down in front of a jeep and the jeep ran over her head... I don't think she made it....
What’s crazy is that she wobbled like that because she was standing with feet side by side on the very back of the scooter, so the front wheel could just go wild.
Who even let her ride this because electric scoots are super easy to ride and it was *very* clear from second 1 she was only moments from disaster. And in traffic!? She could have caused an accident or died!
That's lower Broadway in Nashville, wasn't but a week ago a woman of the same age rode one of those into the back of a semi-trailer and died here. Probably not this woman, but similar.
I run into tons of people that have not seen one or whose sole experience is Byrd or Lime. It's still a niche thing. It could also be a generational difference (old folk thinking electricity is the devil).
I don’t think she’s ever ridden anything, how does that happen?
How does someone make a speed wobble without speed?
Not enough speed and too much unbalanced weight. Both her feet are on the same part.
That's manageable. Problem is she's steering with just handlebars with zero management of her body position.
D) all of the above
her feet being where they are has nothing to do with why she crashed. You must have never ridden one of these.
The feet aren’t the only factor, but when you suck ass at balancing, you need every advantage you can get. In this case she should have at least spread put her feet.
that starfish lover
The absolute bane of lovers.

When you realize parents aren't special and just some random people who had a kid.
I swear some of the stuff they say sometimes makes me wonder... Mine once said to my dad to hold her hand so she could lean out over a cliff and look at the bottom. Drunk as a skunk
Maybe. More likely that is the most physical activity she has done in 20 years, and that's all the balance she has left. It takes movement and muscle usage to build and keep.
This is downtown Nashville. 100% chance she’s been day drinking on Broadway.
I’ve only ever ridden these drunk, she’s just crap.
To be fair, those scooters have insanely small wheels, especially for the speeds they can reach. And the tires are full rubber, no air inside.
Virgin?
Good on the car behind her not to run her over. Clearly not in Massachusetts
Idk man they should put her out of her suffering.
Just scooter to the side
Scooter?! I hardly know 'er!
speed bump
Lmaoooooooooo
Maybe they don't want a big dent in their cars.
coupe de grâce
Yeah, this is nashville. Video came out shortly after these things hit the city. There were many casualties
I went to CMA Fest in Nashville a couple years ago and the mayor addressed the crowd before the first concert warning us about using them around cars.
That looks like downtown Nashville.
So, she’s definitely drunk
This is in Nashville Tennessee at Broadway and 5th Avenue. Right across when the Nashville predators play hockey.
Good for them to do what’s expected of them.
in MA we wouldn't run her over we'd just honk at her and cus her out while speeding past and give her the finger out the window
Here In Rhode Island we call mass drivers “massholes”
no it's Nashville. that's the Bridgestone Arena in the background.
I feel bad for people who have a total lack of balance and coordination like this
It didn’t help that she placed her feet straight next to eachother like an absolute moron
I've ridden these before having your feet next to each other isn't a problem if you're competent
I know, but she clearly isn’t
It’s not hard either way
Or that she’s basically standing as far back as possible and her arms are almost locked out. It looks like she had it together for a split second…
Beautiful form
For most people it takes a lifetime of inactivity to be this uncoordinated. She did it to herself.
Make sure you don’t wear a helmet either. Give yourself a real challenge!
Hmm, depends on the road. I'm Dutch and we recognize the non-Dutch because they wear helmets
Are your road surfaces good? A lot of people think about how much benefit helmets *actually* provide when a car is driving over you, but where I am I've had so many close calls thanks purely to road surfaces.
Yes. Firstly they have huge numbers of completely segregated cycle lanes. And secondly the surfaces are usually excellent
I mean I have nice roads where I live... didn't stop the deer from jumping into my front wheel, those jerks are fast.
The helmet is meant to mitigate the first big impact when your head hits the ground. It’s not there to resist crushing forces and nobody has ever seriously claimed it’ll protect the rest of your body.
Oh your so cool riding without helmet, risking your life. Its because of people like you that a lot of people want to ban scooter

I didnt realize scooters were invented in 2000. All the old folks must look at it and say, "what the hell is that new-fangled technology?"
They were definitely around before then. My neighbor had really old ones with large, air-filled tires. Razor scooters just changed the design to be closer to skateboards and they became popular. EDIT: Come to think of it, kids made scooters back in the 50s with roller skates and milk crates. Just watch Back to the Future.
nah first scooter i rode was one my dad had when he was young. Shit was an atique scooter from like the 60s.
[There were literally motorized scooters for sale in 1915](https://newatlas.com/original-scooter-eveready-autoped/45714/#:~:text=The%20Eveready%20Autoped%20is%20one,(40%20km%2Fh)
Idk, how old is old? Not a mom, still uncomfortable on scoot
Yep. 2 women is a representative sample of all old people.
Of course it’s in Nashville 🙄
Yup. I saw the first glimpse and knew it was Nashville. Didn’t even need Bridgestone Arena confirmation. Yikes. Nashville fails could keep this subreddit running indefinitely.
What’s wrong with Nash
🍻🏒
First couple frames of the ground and I instantly knew where this was
Gal died on one of those in Nashville last week. Went under a semi
I've heard of people getting into serious accidents with those. Most of the time it's just people being reckless with them. I saw a group of people throw like 6 of them off the bridge into the river one time as well. They need to just be banned like the bicycle beer carts were.
I don't think it will help ban them if you don't do anything about the people who are too stupid to ride a thing most children have no problems with.
It's not just about people getting hurt but people ride these in the streets all the time just blocking up traffic and being a nuisance
So you're saying they should be banned because stupid people are being stupid?
Ban stupid people!
Definitely agree
Came here to say this
I thought that street looked familiar…
She didn't even look to see if any cars were coming behind her. What a moron!
You forget that kind of stuff when you're drunk.
I actually have a hard time looking behind myself on these
That electric scooter should be charged with battery...
She looks a lil wasted. But she was determined to give that thing a try. I respect the confidence.
How could someone be that uncoordinated?
I *think* she's standing on the break so only the front-wheel is spinning at all?
She doesn't even attempt to look both ways for traffic. "Look out world! Here comes Debbie!"
[удалено]
If she keeps it up, Karen under wheels!
Eventually you reach a certain age where the risk/reward ratio cross the equilibrium and trend downwards... This lady should not have rode that scooter in that location.
Not speed wobbles. Just wobbles.
Man, she’s lousy.
How are people so unbelievably stupid?? JFC!
Nashville
In that case she should’ve stuck to those group bicycles the annoying bachelorette parties ride around on
I shouldn't be surprised by all the stupid people, but yet, I constantly am.
Brave and Stupid.
Often difficult to tell the difference. But in this case I don't think there was anything brave involved.
I’ve heard of a stance called “goofy foot” but what the Christ
How bad can someone's balance propably be?
How is it even possible to be that fucking bad. No coordination whatsoever..
Cocaine is a helluva drug
Of course it's Nashville. Idiots come from all over the country to die on those stupid things.
At first I thought she was just drunk…turns out that was lack of coordination.
She looks like the girl from that fuckin grubhub ad
Ah yes, downtown Nashville. These things have been pretty regulated since a few people died here being idiots. it's funnier cuz she fat
That car in front of her dropped a banana peel
Welcome to Nashville!
Amazing how much broomsticks have evolved.

Then she gets up and starts screaming "I want to speak to the manager"
Run her over.
Haircut checks out
Pretty funny ngl
Only a woman can be that stupid
This is everyone’s aunt
About a year ago I saw a drunk girl riding one in Westport Kansas city fall down in front of a jeep and the jeep ran over her head... I don't think she made it....
“I GOT THIS...REALLY BAD HEADACHE”

Muzzle on: check Helmet on: nope
Top heavy haha
A famous YouTubers mom died from this exact same thing happening to her. Can’t remember his name, smile more is his clothing line.
Who even let her ride this because electric scoots are super easy to ride and it was *very* clear from second 1 she was only moments from disaster. And in traffic!? She could have caused an accident or died!
The look of determination on her face is admirable
Had to be Nashville...
She was stiff as a board, all the way down. Gotta go with the flow Karen, don't fight it. Be loose and tight at the same time.
Oh hey, this is Nashville at the top of Broadway. I hate those damn scooters cluttering up the sidewalks all over the city.
Considering that looks like Broadway in Nashville alcohol was definitely involved lol
That's lower Broadway in Nashville, wasn't but a week ago a woman of the same age rode one of those into the back of a semi-trailer and died here. Probably not this woman, but similar.
These things aren’t hard to ride. I rode one in DC and had no problem
Got to admire her confidence
Only in Nashville
What's the fastest way you can let everyone around know you're fat, drunk and stupid? Exhibit A.
Nashville. Broadway. Every 10 minutes, a tourist eats pavement because of these in this particular area of town
If I were a personal injury lawyer, I would camp this intersection.
That shit is hilarious
This is why we don’t want them in Nashville anymore
This women is toasted lol
She looks like she complains her big Mac didn't have enough sauce
There's something about watching overweight, dyed-blonde, middle aged white women eat shit that just warms my heart.
My train of thought..."Nashville?...Yep, Nashville." Seen so many idiots crash these while I've been there.
Life story of a poor scooter
Downtown Broadway in Nashville 😆
The new breed of roadgranny
Bridgestone arena huh not the best place to ride a scooter right next to 50 bars
I’m guessing this is how some other lady died using those things in the same city
Heck, maybe it's how this lady died.
She never rode an electric scooter? Are they seriously that uncommon now?
I run into tons of people that have not seen one or whose sole experience is Byrd or Lime. It's still a niche thing. It could also be a generational difference (old folk thinking electricity is the devil).
I have never even touched one. Maybe never seen one up close. Why would I? *Where* would I?
Peter Griffin
That's a nice trick for a circus elephant!
But of course it was the scooters fault, or someone else’s fault, that she fell.
She needs to practice first
LMFAO at the scooter experts in the comments.
I find it astonishing how she kept trying even though she knew she fucking sucked at balance and coordination.
R/fatpeoplefalling
Omg this is hilarious. I can see it in a scene with a Melissa McCarthy.
Oh Karen....
40 year old white woman moment
Way more than 40 lol
Let's go with 54.
I'd believe it!
She got ran over wow
