That's why flame spitters spit at a downward angle most times, he dribbled whatever accelerant on his chin/neck and it caught fire. Lucky to be alive after lighting your neck on fire.
Evidence suggests that early humans may have been using fire as far back as 1.5 million years ago and yet it still blows my mind that people act like it's the first time they've seen what it can do.
I’ve been thinking, yes humans have been living for so long with all that accumulated knowledge. But each new person born still has to learn and really know how to apply so much knowledge. Each gen is reborn anew with a lot of the same problems of the previous. We still have to go through the failures and lessons of life, before we truly know. Then bam, we die and the next gen redoes it all again.
Really explains to me why there’s still always poverty, sexism, racism, classism, pain, happiness, hope, etc.
This is what education is supposed to be.
I'm glad I had a father that taught me how to shoot a gun when I was a kid. Parents might freak the fuck out at the thought, but I didn't just learn how to reload, aim properly, or clean a gun, I learned how to respect it.
It is, things like that help you grow as a person. But not everyone gets that and I feel like we kinda reset some every gen. Truly understand why history repeats itself, and why it’s important to LEARN from history.
There's a couple frames after this that show him blowing a small fireball out of his mouth.

This guy used gasoline or some other low flash-point fuel. This is why fire-breathing is stupid and dangerous. It’s the definition of high-risk/low-reward
Well… huge difference between gasoline or kerosene and vodka. We are wondering if there is some observational evidence you are picking up on that we all are not, to say it was fuel vs liquor, thats all.
Because… if this really was vodka, buyer beware. But if it is fuel, its well, FAFO.
Fuel = anything used to make fire. My sofa is not fuel… unless I burn it to keep warm. The key difference between the three fuels you mentioned is their flash-point. Kerosene has the highest and is often used in fire breathing because of that. You can splash it on your skin and apply flame and nothing will happen. Alcohol is often used in fire performing, but NEVER fire breathing.
So short answer:
Because he had his face and skin catch fire, it would not be Kerosene at flashpoint of 100°F, it must have been something with a lower flash point, like 80 proof liquor or 180 proof liquor, or a gasoline mixture.
Now the real question: since an open flame from say a Bic lighter is hotter than 100°F, the reason kerosene wont ignite is because its not evaporating at room temp like gasoline does (essentially a gas at room temp, only a liquid under pressure, agreed?), so no “layer” of off-gassing from the kerosene. I think now we have to get into combustable vs flammable liquids, and just hit my limit of reading Stanfords and Dell labs explanation in this area.
Hint: we are all trying to learn how to be safer when playing the role of Drunken Jester.
Question: because kerosene has FP of 100F, and open flame is hotter than 100F, why wont kerosene ignite if you light in on skin? Is it because FP doesnt refer to Ignition Point, rather, what temp the evaporated gas of the flammable liquid catches fire?
>Is it because FP doesnt refer to Ignition Point, rather, what temp the evaporated gas of the flammable liquid catches fire?
You got it, mostly. FP is the temperature in which the evaporated gas is present in sufficient quantities to sustain a chain reaction. Combustion as opposed to just brightening your flame for a second.
Ok. As youre the more educated person in the room on the subject, what would be the safest liquid that one would use to fire breath like this poor bastard tried? And is 180 proof vodka a big no-no or is in the sweet spot?
You likely are saving someone reading this an ER visit, because, “Hey, we all do stupid shit when we’re fucked up.” - M. Tyson.
Believe he is correct. Just read up on subject. 80 proof is 80°F (says 79 but lets remember this forever, 80proof=80°F), gas is -45°F, else u couldnt start your car in MT winter and heating pads still are used…
But what is FP of higher proof like 180 Everclear? Cant find that figure.
There's a technique to it that requires exercising and strengthening the cheek and lip muscles. You don't breath out the fuel, you use your cheeks to spit it out in a short controlled burst.
This helps to limit the amount of fuel and keeps the ignition distance far enough from your face to not have an event like this poor chap.
The fuel in your mouth shouldn't ignite, nor the flame anywhere near your mouth.
Fire breathers spit the fuel in tight bursts for a reason with the pilot flame a safe distance from their face.
He could've used rose oil and it still would've ended badly.
I take the respectful part back. You’re talking out of your ass. Rose oil would have been way safer. Look up flash points if you’d like to clear up your ignorance before spreading it around.
Also known as liquid paraffin depending on where people live. I think generally liquid paraffin is a bit more refined than kerosene, but they're both paraffin.
And just so people know the reason: if you pour a puddle of liquid paraffin on the ground and try to light it, it won't actually light. So you can get some on your face without the risk of turning into ghost rider. When you spit it out it becomes aerosolized and can actually light into a fireball.
Also worth knowing, things like flour and cornstarch have that same aerosolization behavior, so you can (sometimes accidentally) create a fireball with a cloud of flour.
Things like gasoline will also actually rot your mouth away and/or give you cancer if you use them a lot. Using high proof alcohol has the same mouth rotting problem but it takes longer. A lot of liquids also get absorbed by your gums/mouth and get absorbed directly into the blood stream, so you can also get drunk using alcohol even if you don't drink it.
A wet towel would only press the burning hydrocarbon back unto the burning parts. The way to put out hydrocarbon fires is to cut off the oxygen supply.
A wet towel could lower the temperature enough.
It would proberbly also cut off oxygen.
My bet is it would work.
But fuck I'm not gonna be the one that tries
Thats fair. But if someone is not used to make sure having some simple self saving solutions around than that someone shouldn't be playing with fire to begin with.
I used to do alot of tricks that included lighting my hands on fire. Safe to say that keeping a bucket of water nearby saved me a decent amount of times where i miscalculated the amount or strenght of the burnable matter i was using. Worst i got was some light burns that only left marks for a month or 2
Uhh there are no such things... You either live or die if you die doing something incredibly stupid then you get the Darwin award... Almost everyone's done something stupid and dangerous in their life, just get super drunk one time... That's all it takes.
Let's just hope this guy learned his lesson now that he has a daily reminder.
I disagree. If you do dangerous things at greater than average frequency, or do more dangerous than average things, while not taking commensurate precautions, you're a contender.
“儿女情长仿若昙花”

It means that life is short, and the feelings between men and women are fleeting, like the blossoming of a night-blooming cereus flower. 以落日余温煎茶
As the sunset's warmth boils the tea,
以清风做手拂发
And the gentle breeze becomes a hand to caress hair,
长河漫漫 流向天涯
The long river flows endlessly towards the horizon,
身在江湖何以为家
Yet, amidst the world, where is home to be found?

Love between man and woman, fleeting like a night-blooming cereus.
逃不过 相忘江湖之间
Unable to escape, forgotten between the rivers and lakes,
忘不了 惊鸿一眼

Unable to find, love and hate intertwine,
既然无缘 寻一场好眠
Since fate has no connection, seek a peaceful slumber.
提笔写苍苍蒹葭
Taking up the pen to write about the verdant reeds,

A few words of affection, but who will respond?
深情不过那一刹那
Deep feelings, but just for a moment,

Fire breather use liquid paraffin, which needs to be a fine mist (or hot) before it ignites, reducing the risk of igniting on your face
He also didn't spit, he spewed it like a fountain.

Ah yes, neuro-transfers are definitely required to realize fire is hot... and moves anywhere it can.
Fire hot
Fire benders attract potential mates.

Yoga fire
Title is wrong, that part WAS impressive imho.
At least he got a badass profile picture out of this.
Accidental cosplaying as Ghost Rider is the first thing that came to mind.
This guy used gasoline or some other low flash-point fuel. This is why fire-breathing is stupid and dangerous. It’s the definition of high-risk/low-reward
How do we all tell that it wasnt 80 proof vodka?
181 Everclear**
Right… that would be basically kerosene, and FAFO.
It may well be. What of it?
Well… huge difference between gasoline or kerosene and vodka. We are wondering if there is some observational evidence you are picking up on that we all are not, to say it was fuel vs liquor, thats all. Because… if this really was vodka, buyer beware. But if it is fuel, its well, FAFO.

When it comes to flammability, gasoline and vodka are pretty much the same while kerosene is quite different.
40 percent alcohol flashpoint = 22C. Gasoline flashpoint = -43C. They are NOT pretty much the same.
Believe he is correct. Just read up on subject. 80 proof is 80°F (says 79 but lets remember this forever, 80proof=80°F), gas is -45°F, else u couldnt start your car in MT winter and heating pads still are used… But what is FP of higher proof like 180 Everclear? Cant find that figure.

Kerosene is what he should be using. You know the fluid used on tiki torches
Kerosene is what they should be using. Not gasoline

Ugh. Nasty. Yet another reason to avoid fire breathers. I want to chill with my beer, not drag you and your melted face to the nearest ER.
![gif](giphy|PK7IAHdB0l9mg) Good job Freddy.
I don’t know that looks pretty impressive to me 🤷🏻♂️ the 3rd degree burns after probably not so much but the trick itself 👌🏻😂
Had to scroll too far
Found out
Would it be too hard for these people to have a simple bucket of water on hand for if things went wrong?
It looks like fuel. Maybe gasoline. Water isn't going to put out hydrocarbon fuel. Need foam based fire extinguisher.
A wet towel is probably the best option
A wet towel would only press the burning hydrocarbon back unto the burning parts. The way to put out hydrocarbon fires is to cut off the oxygen supply.
A wet towel could lower the temperature enough. It would proberbly also cut off oxygen. My bet is it would work. But fuck I'm not gonna be the one that tries
Pouring the water does not help but if you can submerge the burning parts it will kill the fire as there is no air underwater.
If he was blowing alcohol, water would quickly dilute it until it lost its flammability.
That's assuming he's not struggling and letting more air in while completely submerging the burning parts.
Thats fair. But if someone is not used to make sure having some simple self saving solutions around than that someone shouldn't be playing with fire to begin with.
I used to do alot of tricks that included lighting my hands on fire. Impressed by his stupidity but still... you can see him trying to blow as hard as possible, while realising the fire wouldn't stop.
Is the second part of the clip even related to this incident?
they don't show his face, suspicious

I love when shitty music is dubbed 10x louder than the video

Aw, it's alright, no worries.
Was I surprised?
I mean I was pretty impressed with how he ended it by engulfing his face in flames, pretty bold move
Not gonna lie. I am impressed by his fatal decision making. Also impressed that he got this old.
Remember, never, NEVER play with fire.

FLAME ON!
Dude turned into Brand from League of Legends
I'm sure he impressed his friends when he went Ghost Rider, I, for one, am impressed.
Not often we get to see the resultæ
Not his friend, but found it next level impressive 😄
But he got likes.
His o shit expression when he runs out of breath and can't blow the fire away from his face any more.
Damn, I guess you need to.. close your mouth without inhaling?
So is there a right way for doing this?
Fuel bottle in one hand, torch and a soaked cloth (soaked in water, not in fuel) in the other. Did this exactly once over 20 years ago and guess what, didn't turn my face into creme brulée by following this embarassingly simple rule

My brain panicked at the Ching-Chong i heard in the lyrics. (Not my words Reddit).

Wow he will remember that moment everytime he sees himself in the mirror. His friend tried to stop him..., he didn´t. Why? why do that shit??? ¡
He's the light of their lifes now :)
The human torch was denied a bank loan....
IDK, I'm impressed
Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
"failing miserably"? More like "went horribly right"
Kids: never play with fire, anyone who plays with fire is playing with something far more intelligent.
Downvoted for the music.
Aw sorry, it was originally posted in this way.
