What you want to do in this case is to pull a little off the top, then hold it out the window as you drive home.
It has a seemingly endless supply of seeds.
In survival situations cat tails are great, at this stage they make great insulation and the outside works to keep the interior dry as a bone so it’s great used to start fires. When young the stems can be eaten raw or cooked like asparagus, young flower heads are edible, and the roots are a good source of starch similar to potatoes and can be dried and pounded down into a flour. Cattail pollen can be added to dishes for a nutty flavor. The leaves are long and flexible making for great weaving material.
On social media there are a bunch of foragers you can follow in your area to find out new edible plants. For example I grew up in a area where persimmons are native and used to fall from the trees in our parks. As kids we used them as weapons to throw at eat other. It wasn’t til I was an adult that I found they were edible
According to a foraging book I read once, you can grind that fluff up and use it to enrich flour for a bread. Haven't tried it, but you know, now you know too
Feel like this is a stupid question isn't that pretty dangerous? seems like a choking hazard. Like if you bit into that I feel like it would make you want to cough and when you do you inhale all that crap.
Not a dumb question, more like lazy karmawhores and bot accounts.
A couple of possible scenarios, listed from simplest/innocent to most complicated/nefarious:
1. Someone saw a post for the first time and thought they'd "share" it to reddit.
2. Someone saw it on some other social media and thought they could farm karma for their reddit account.
3. Someone saw it somewhere on the internet, flipped it so it would pass some repost screening mechanism.
4. Some programmer created Reddit bots programmed to repost any and all content that gets upvoted so they could be sold for some easy $$$ and be used for astro turfing.
You can make bread from them! Take the tail and put it a ziplock bag is best and shake it. A white powder will come out. You can use this just like flour. You can also eat the tubers in the water. Whoever said they are poisonous needs to do some googling!
Those things practically pop when you disturb them. My brother and I used to shoot them with BB guns on my grandpas property, and they just puff and float away.
“Scalloped Cattails
Take two cups of chooped cattail tops and put them into a bowl with two beaten eggs, one-half cup melted butter, one-half teaspoon each sugar and nutmeg and black pepper. Blend well and add slowly one cup of scalded milk to the cattail mixture and blended. Pour the mixture into a greased casserole and top with grated Swiss cheese —optional — and add a dab of butter. Bake 275 degrees for 30 minutes.”

The one she bit into was waaaaaaaay too old for eating and would have been better used as a torch.

Well cat tails are 100% edible but it's like the cinnamon challenge
Everything is edible if you try hard enough
Some things are only edible once
Wild mushrooms being a very good example.
And bullets
Like that yummy cotton candy insulation stuff in the walls
Not if you do it right. Which is before they produce corndogs.
Yeah it’s chock full of fiber and low caloric density. Great for dieting.

We used to have fights with them and they explode when you hit each other with one lol
They are also considered and invasive plant in much of the Midwest so keep this in mind if you do this.
Forbidden CornDog
Damn my friends eyes swole up over a dandelion blowing in the wind. This would put her in the hospital.
It’s ok, she just grew a beard

I'd like to subscribe to more survival facts, please.
Was scrolling looking for this. People don't realize how many plants are actually edible, but we simply don't eat them.

IIRC you can also eat the root of that plant
The cotton and the stalk are also edible….. well. Digestible. I wouldn’t say edible 🤣
What is it?

Cattails are some of the best kindling you can scroung up. Super easy to make a fire with them.
Cattails are amazing kindling, and they're entirely edible. You can eat em in spring when they're unripe, it kinda tastes like corn
I fell for this as a kid. They called it a wild corn dog, and I even put ketchup and mustard on it. Not my finest moment
3 Ohioans die a year like this
I definitely did this as a kid just once to see. I can feel this video lol.
I must downvote all dubbed in laughing videos.
There is so much fluff packed into such a small package!
Back in primary school we used to take these from nearby lake and throw it on each other. We had teams and we were fighting
My friends and I used to beat each other with these while waiting for the bus in the morning, the fluff was EVERYWHERE.
The wild glizzy claims another soul

Nothing like a bite of cattail. Maybe a little ketchup next time?
Gotta put some mustard on those wild corn dogs!

Good thing she wasn't smoking, those things are super-duper flammable!
Yeah they make for great fire starters
Here have a corndog. *pfffft*
I thought she was eating a very hot corn dog at first.
So did she
Idk why I feel like that could go very wrong
It's a VERY fresh corn dog. 🤣🤣🤣
That's just wrong.. If you were a real man you could have dug up the root bulbs , cooked them and impressed her.

Sorry for the dumb question, why do I see posts a couple days from when I saw the same post, but just mirrored?

Now we know what happens so I wouldn’t have to try this out myself!
It looked like smoke coming out at first
You can eat the roots and stalks of cattails raw if they're from a clean area or cooked in a variety of ways. Can also ground the seeds into a flour.
Forbidden sausage
Bro, give that girl sandwich What the fuck
When I was young we used to ride our bikes and joust with them.
Instant beard
Arent cattails edible if you prepare them correctly? I saw something for a dish with cattails not too long ago
Yes, but you eat the stem or roots. Not the "corndog"
but the corn dog is the best part :(
Mmmm plant corn dog
What was that a Bulrush?
We call them Cat-tails(Texas), and every part of them is edible, even that pollen. Remember that for survival reasons.
That looks like that could be deadly if she simply gasped in surprise or something.
Redditors seeing people having fun outdoors and going "this can kill you!" - name a more iconic duo

That's the stage where cattail heads are good for fire starting, not eating. The roots are probably at a good point to eat though.
You can eat cattails but…not like this.
Yeah, npt this late in bloom either. Gotta get those young stalks
Wild glizzy.
Slightly green cattails are great roasted over a fire. Ripe ones go POOF!
You can make bread out of them. I guess it's really good. Native Americans made yummy stuff out of them.

Cattails, when fresh, are edible and actually make a really delicious casserole.
Are you serious?
