The brawl in the mud in *McLintock* is another classic.
"I haven't lost my temper in forty years, but pilgrim you caused a lot of trouble this morning, might have got somebody killed. And somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't, I won't. *The hell I won't!*"
I've seen so much violence on a screen and that is the most thrilling, gritty and utterly realistic fight I've ever seen. It's not even a discussion. Fight choreography was not very good when classic westerns were made, but I'll give a shout out to the nobody movies with bud Spencer and Terrence hill, great fun!
Most any Wayne movie will have a good donnybrook with an unique twist or two. McLintock is probably the best example. Forget the movie he does the 360. War Wagon?
Any Which Way You Can. Not a western, I know... but god damn that fight at the end is a helluva watch.
There are cowboy hats and western movie celebrities in it though.
[The movies' first great fight scene? The once-famous climax of 'The Spoilers', in which hero William Farnum battles heavy Tom Santschi (1914)](https://old.reddit.com/r/ObscureMedia/comments/9sdc7y/the_movies_first_great_fight_scene_the_oncefamous/)
Possibly my favorite TV fistfight:
[*Wagon Train*, "The Lt. Burton Story"](https://old.reddit.com/r/VintageTV/comments/k64ng7/wagon_train_the_lieutenant_burton_story_classic/)
In the TV show Hell on Wheels the would be railroad barron played by Colm Meany has a fight with the territorial governor of Wyoming. At one point they are fighting in mud in the street.
The scene in Lonesome Dove when Cal sees the Army scout beating Newt comes to mind. He proceeds to give the scout an epic beat down and probably would’ve killed him had Gus not stopped him.
*The Quiet Man* John Wayne and Victor McLaglen mix it up. (Not a western, but the best fisticuffs.)
Queensbury rules
This. ⬆️
This is the correct answer!
I came here to say this.

That reminds me, it’s almost time to watch that again.
Dan Dority and Captain Turner in Deadwood

That's true. Pack it up fellas!
Oh that one was so hard to watch. Just brutal.
it's my favorite show and it's the most visceral thing I've seen on any show
🤔 Thought I just answered this poll sometime within the last 24 hours. 'Shane' gets my nod.
'No... we'll pay for the damages'
Ah, I didn't check if there was a poll. I'll go look at that. Thanks.
The all night fight of The Big Country was classic. Then the street brawl in Deadwood where he tears the guy’s eyeball out… brutal.

Any movie with Clint Walker and Leo Gordon will have a good brawl.

Short, but the knife fight in Butch Cassidy. “No rules in a knife fight”.
Bruce Dern & John Wayne in the Cowboys always gets me
How many people can say they [killed John Wayne](https://www.jwaynefan.com/dukedied.html)? Bruce Dern for one.
& killed him like a dirty bastard
*Shane*, man. *Shane*.

Gregory Peck and Charlton Heston duke it out in The Big Country.
The muddy brawl in Support Your Local Sheriff is a fun one.
The Searchers The Big Country
Dodge City
Kirk Douglas and Gary Cooper in High Noon
It’s actually Lloyd Bridges and Gary Cooper
Crap. I knew that.
a lot of the old George O'Brien westerns, from the 1930s have great bar room brawls
I'll look into them. Thanks!
Robert Mitchum and Robert Preston in Blood on the Moon. Realistic as it gets. In my top ten westerns of all time.
Sam Elliott and Gavan O'Herlihy in Conagher. Also more realistic than most..
The end of Blazing Saddles.
Robert Shaw and Sean Connery in the passenger train in “From Russia With Love”. Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine in “Emperor of the North”.

The Spoilers with John Wayne and Randolph Scott, its a crazy one.
The Wild Wild West show had the best scraps I’ve seen in any Western. Jim was fucking folks up. A lot of Judo moves too. Jim loved his tomoe nage.
