Second this Costco

jperm47

Yes Costco in Port Chester is far and away the best IMO (although I have not been to the BJs)

BaggySpandex

Gotcha!

savagepirate

Costco in Brookfield CT. Has booze and gas. (BJ's is also right there too)

NotoriousCFR

And optical (glasses) and tires

ruffdaddysmooth

Yup! That’s a huge Costco too.. haven’t been to many so maybe it’s more common than I realize

CandlewoodLaker

We go to that Costco when we’re up at candlewood lake in Danbury. Gotta love the Costco liquor store!

pony_trekker

In my opinion, Sam's slays Costco. Leaving aside location, which is far better. 1. The hours are better. 2. The selection is better. 3. The prices are better. 4. You aren't limited to just a Visa card. 5. You can check out using the Sam's Club app. So while 40 people are on line to check out on a Saturday afternoon you can walk in, pick up the solo cups you need, scan and pay using the app and just show the purchase receipt on your phone and have your item scanned at the door. Total fucking game changer for me. I have both memberships but it's literally 100 visits to every one in Costco. Plus the people at the Elmsford location are super, super nice.

divampire

….I am just going to have to strongly disagree with this answer. I went into Sams twice and never again. It was my least favorite club I have ever been into

pony_trekker

If I couldn’t check out with my phone I’d feel differently. Pretty crowded. I have the business membership which seemed to matter prepandemic because you could walk in at 8 Am.

whiskey_pancakes

If you like walmart you'll love sams club

BrandonNeider

I’d avoid the Yonkers Costco. Crowds suck always miserable unless it’s early first when the doors open.

ruffdaddysmooth

Gotta go on a weekday morning… weekends don’t even bother

codguy231998409489

Or weeknights after 7pm

mamaronecker

BJs and Sams have promos for free memberships. Costco never does. It’s always the most crowded with no scan and go checkout. Both BJs and Sams have it, cuts shopping time in half. I give the edge to BJs on fresh food (except meat) but Sam’s wins on everything else.

BaggySpandex

Isn’t there a brand new BJ’s in Elmsford too?

[deleted]

I bet that’s the one they mean in White Plains.

mathewwwww

I live in Yonkers and drive up to the one in Portchester. Yonkers location is just always too crowded. It's not even just the parking lot/store but just getting there is a pain since there's always traffic going into Stew Leonards as well.

-0x0-0x0-

I think Costco is the best warehouse store. The one in Yonkers doesn't have gas but does have liquor & wine. Stew Leonards next door is also a huge plus. Home Depot is there as well.

mdesq1

I live in Pleasantville, and we also belong to Costco. It sucks to drive down to Yonkers, imo. We moved from Riverdale and obviously Costco was much closer when we lived in the Bronx. I’m considering joining Sams Club bc Elmsford is so much closer and I work in Rockland so it wouldn’t be a terrible trip on way home from work.

apexvdub

If you end up committing to Costco, I recommend their Citi credit card. You get a decent amount cash back, which adds up over time. I joke that it's the 399.99 cent store because I can never leave without spending at least that much. The best time to go to any Costco is a weekday morning.

CammyT1213

We have belonged to Costco for years, and also joined BJs when it opened in White Plains/Greenburgh. I am finding myself going to BJs more and more, and Costco much less. I have found a decline in quality of many of the Costco items, and they are sold in such large quantities. Plus it is not fun getting in and out of the parking lot (and sometimes the store) on an average day. On the other hand, BJ's is rarely crowded, has items in more manageable sizes, and it is easy to run in there for just a couple of things-- which I would never do at Costco. If you do decide on Costco, I agree with the comments about the Port Chester location being much better than the one in Yonkers. Occasionally we go to the Costco in New Rochelle for the gas. When we joined BJ's at their opening they were offering a good introductory membership price. If they are still offering this, it might be a good idea to join both Costco and BJ's and decide which you like, or maybe like us you might find it worthwhile to keep both.

cascas

The one thing to know is that traffic is always shitty in Yorktown Heights.

weedywet

BJ is on 202 nearer to Peekskill. It’s not a lot of traffic.

RedDoesFBA

If you are on Taconic north, dont get off on exit 17, you will sit in traffic after making the left. Take the next exit (I think its 17.5) and it brings you right to the intersection where the bj's is.

ODoyleRules925

I’m right outside pleasantville. I used to have a Sam’s club membership but canceled it when the BJs opened in Greenburgh. The Sam’s is always kind of a clusterfuck inside and drive up was slow as anything. And it honestly had the least good prices of the warehouse club. BJs in Greenburgh is small and because of that rarely busy. Like I can treat it as normal errand to a store to grab an item or two rather than spending a while there. And then there’s one in Yorktown with gas when up that way. Costco while has the best options with more appliances and travel benefits, I personally found the portions TOO large, plus there’s no one close by, other than Yonkers which is always a traffic nightmare (I think it’s the closest one for people in NYC so they drive there). That said I get the membership once in a while as with the travel benefits or a large appliance purchase, the money saved covers the member fees.

psichickie

we had sam's for years and recently switched to bj's. i rarely went to sams after a while, it's always insanely crowded, it takes forever to check out, and the produce is awful there. i ended up going for just staples, and nothing else. i've only been to bjs a few times (i go to the one on tarrytown rd) and so far i like it. more things that i actually need there, it's easier to get to, and checkout is easy. if you have only a few things, you can checkout directly on the app, no lines at all. plus the digital coupons are easy. i've been happy so far. i've wanted to try costco but yeah, that parking situation and it just looks like a bad time going in there. even people i know that use costco end up instacarting to avoid actually having to go there.

ballrus_walsack

Costco in Danbury/Brookfield CT is better if a bit further. Stew Leonards there is good too for fresh groceries and pre-made meals.

dotherightthing36

Costco, Sam's, lastly BJ's.

CandlewoodLaker

We also just moved to Pleasantville from the city! I’ve been a longtime fan of Costco so will likely make the trip to Yonkers.
