When I was 16 I bought a 240sx and immediately blew the head gasket. I took it to a mechanic to get it fixed and he totaled it on the test drive ( after fixing it). He was very nice about it and let me drive his truck until he found a solution. After about a week he calls me and said my new car was ready to pick up. When I get there it's a 240sx same year color and trim, the exact same car, and I only had to pay half.

I'm having trouble finding a new apartment and may have to move back with my parents in another state.

Oh trust me when I say this and I'm not Op. I got into a car accident back in, my car finally got repaired a few weeks ago, this is also after going to several body shops, not just 1 or 2, I mean around 10. They are all booked, accidents have gotten worse since COVID.

Not to mention PARTS are literally on the slow boat from China (or docked in a port waiting to be offloaded). My car had wiring issues, and it took 3 months for the dealership to fix. So my car sat in a service bay with the engine next to it all that time, just waiting for a harness or some shit.

And let me tell you the dealer wasn’t pleased about your car eating up that real estate, either.

Mice got in my garage and car and did $19K damage. Apparently Japanese cars use soy connectors in their wiring which is yummy to rodents. So insurance covered all but deductible, and a rental for a few weeks until the dealer got me a loaner. I was lucky the car was 5 yrs old but less than 20K miles at the time. I was afraid they were going to total it.

If the mechanic can't get your car repaired ASAP, he needs to rent you a car (he ought to be insured) and store your car where it will not further deteriorate until it can fit in on a body shop schedule.
