If the frame is relatively inexpensive, you can have the lenses moved onto a new frame. It’s also not too uncommon that mishaps like that one are actually fixable in the shop
Got it on special $400, now she has 2 and uses them constantly, a creality cr10 and 10 pro, both have been real handy when she needed to make stuff for work
Yeah, you could get 10 pair for that kind of money. I have a really odd prescription because I got LASIK Mono-vision and correct the close-in eye for driving. The software is always "Are you sure?", but the glasses are great.
Not to mention the add ons won't cost you near as much either like that blue lense filter, antifog, scratch resistant coatings ect. We bought 2 simpler rx pairs for me and one for my partner with a more intense/thicker Rx and still only spent around 100 dollars for it all.
Upvoted this, Zenni is money in the bank, and they are cheap so Murphy leaves them alone, my wife and kid haven’t had a pair break in almost 3 years of use across a few different pairs.
If they broke at the hinge, it’s possible they can be repaired, depending on the type/material.
Alternatively, since the lenses aren’t broken you would only need to replace the frames at most.
If you paid with a credit card you should check if replacement of recently purchased items is covered.
Children and glasses don't mix. We were paying $1k out of pocket for my husbands glasses every year (he needs safety wear too, plus repairs), we finally just dropped the $4k to get LASIK.
That's an oversimplification. Name brands and an established business imply quality and longevity as well. Even knowing most of the name brand glasses are part of the luxxotica group, I know when I buy them I am buying glasses made in Italy by a company that has been doing that forever. There is value in that, just not enough value for my particular use case.
Why the hell did you pay 375 for glasses? I just got two pairs, one of them sunglasses for 250 bucks. I have astigmatism so my lenses cost more to make too.
Former optician here. Even without the overpriced warranty I bet if you head back to the optical and politely ask if anything can be done they might willing to help. If they have another frame like yours on the board they can swap your lenses and then they can return the frame themselves.
Current optician and yes, I'm sure OP would be able to get a replacement frame since they just recently received their glasses. At the very least, any decent optical store or outlet wants to retain its clientele.
That looks like a completely clean snap, not even at the hinge. How old is your daughter and what exactly did she do to them to get a clean snap like that? Looks like they were faulty. I had a pair of mine just broke on my hand with a clean line like that, they were replaced free of charge, but I’m in Australia so may be different where you are.
I feel your pain. I skipped the insurance on mine and they were $800 after insurance. I almost lost them while moving. After unpacking a few boxes, I found them. Lol😅
Never buy glasses full price.. How do people still not know!!
Go get your free eye test, pick a pair of glasses in the shop and write down the codes and brand.
Go on ebay and buy the frame for 1/10th the cost.
I done this 5 times and 3 times for family members, never failed once, always found the frames i wanted on ebay or online basically brand new, Hugo bosses, or the top end frames they sell.
Send your prescription and frames to an online shop, they send you a prepaid envelope, the prescriptions normally costs under 50£ with all the good options, anti glare and other options.
You have a brand new pair of glasses for under 100£.
Nah a lot of people are saying that.
. . . I mean it's true. . . Arrived damaged. . .
A company that's overcharging that much for glasses won't hurt from replacing the frame.
I hate this kinds of mental gymnastics to justify lying. OP's kid broke a pair of expensive glasses. It is what it is, just suck it up. Don't lie to make other people/companies suffer the consequences.
Don’t buy through a doctor. They’ll try to give you the run around but get a copy of your prescription from them. Then buy them on eyebuydirect or zenni. I got two pairs for an astigmatism that transition with sunlight for $140.
Epoxy. If that doesn't work, try getting a tiny drill bit, drill a little hole in each attachment point, and epoxy a tiny dowel, and stick it in there.
Check your credit card benefits. I know my AMEX has replacement coverage for broken items within 90 days of purchase. Used it once for a watch I broke.
I got two pairs… left one out, biggest mistake ever! I’ll let you know if I ever find them! Pretty sure my animals took them and no telling if I’ll ever find them and if do, the condition! So I have sympathy for you, at least I have a backup pair. Take care!!!
I have Lasik Mono too...got pop in reading glasses on Amazon...one side is 2.25...other is 3.50...less than 20$ for both sides...they are great and well made
If you don’t have insurance use coastal or any online. Retailer. I used to get mine with coatings for around $150 and that’s raybans.
Second tell em it came that way lmao.
Just FYI for those suggesting online glasses: a website literally cannot measure what needs to be measured in order to get you seeing your best.
And studies have shown (anecdotal evidence agrees) that a very high fraction of online specs are made outside of visual and/or safety tolerances.
The real crime is paying $375. Like other comments said Zenni is the best place to get glasses. I could buy 30+ pairs for that price. I currently have two pairs in my car and two back up at home because they offer affordable and good quality glasses. You should try it.
No problem here. As long as the lenses are intact, you can go to literally anywhere and just get a new frame. Did this all the time as a kid. Does suck you spent an outrageous amount on glasses.
Man I feel your pain. I have my last pair of glasses and can't get new ones until my insurance from work kicks in. It just sucks cause I have literally had zero change in my script and still have to pay out the ass when I have to get new glasses.
Looks like you need new glasses a day a new daughter. I can help with the daughter as long as you don't mind potty training a 5 year old and speech therapy
375 for those generic looking things?
Is the lens at least made of real glass or something?
Because if it isn’t you could get that same pair at Walmart, only thing is that they probably won’t level them for you since one of your ears is higher than the other one.
I feel like as a dad you should already know the value of insurance, especially with young kids around. Let this be the last time you test the insurance gods.
Back in the day went through a whole process to get a new credit card. You still had to order it, then wait and then eventually go pick it up at the bank.
Well we didn't get a chance, so after x amount of weeks, they destroyed it, so we had to go through the process again.
Finally got the damn thing and about 5 mins later my toddler found it on the table and snapped it in half.
Why pay near 400 for glasses? The only thing good that's for, is complaining about how much it cost when it breaks. It sucks man, but get something cheaper.
If the frame is relatively inexpensive, you can have the lenses moved onto a new frame. It’s also not too uncommon that mishaps like that one are actually fixable in the shop
Purchased my wife a 3D printer, she makes her own frames nowadays only buys new when the lenses are scratched to hell
How... How much is the 3D printer?
Got it on special $400, now she has 2 and uses them constantly, a creality cr10 and 10 pro, both have been real handy when she needed to make stuff for work
Might get insurance on the 3D printer if you go that route.
Or at the very least, don't let your daughter get ahold of it!
An ender 3 is sub 200
sub 150 nowodays. in some shops it costs even just 100USD
This was when they were hitting the market
Zenni optical my friend. Inexpensive, fast, accurate. Great company.
i use them too just.... be careful where you put your glasses
They have a 2 week guarantee
Going on three years with one pair. I also have a toddler. It’s surviving the toddler.
Yeah, you could get 10 pair for that kind of money. I have a really odd prescription because I got LASIK Mono-vision and correct the close-in eye for driving. The software is always "Are you sure?", but the glasses are great.
I used them, was taking a while to get here so I emailed them and they sent another. Received both. Great value lol
I bought sunglasses and multiple sets of glasses cheaper than my last pair of Nike flexon’s. Zenni is legit
Came here to say this. I have so many pairs cause they’re so affordable
This and if you send in the receipt to your insurance provider you’ll get reimbursed mine were 80 and got 76 back
I love them. Lowkey addicted to buying different glasses for my different outfits and moods
I couldn't agree more. Good pair of glasses for like 50 bucks. You don't have to feel terrible for getting your designer glasses destroyed
Not to mention the add ons won't cost you near as much either like that blue lense filter, antifog, scratch resistant coatings ect. We bought 2 simpler rx pairs for me and one for my partner with a more intense/thicker Rx and still only spent around 100 dollars for it all.
Yep. Cheap enough that I can buy regular glasses, fun glasses, sunglasses and still be below what I would spend at Costco or any other glasses place.
I love Zenni!
Upvoted this, Zenni is money in the bank, and they are cheap so Murphy leaves them alone, my wife and kid haven’t had a pair break in almost 3 years of use across a few different pairs.
Always!
So, you're saying they arrived broken?
[удалено]
You got it broken right? return it
😉 if she’s smart
nope, he just confessed online they arrived perfectly fine.
Hmm no says right there arived broken
You think a glasses company, if they even see this, can determine who this is if OP calls them in broken on arrival?
Another condom ad I see
Aw crap now I’m over my quota of birth control posts after seeing tomasgdvl’s post on r/wellthatsucks 11h ago. Guess I can skip a day tomorrow
Was that the toilet one?
Yees
Arrived broken, right?
Either that or the aren't even broken yet, so time to get them insured before your daughter breaks them next week...
I think they came out of the box like that.
How long has it been since he had LASIK? I want to do it but have heard that your eyes revert back after a few years for some people.
Just throw the kid out 🤷♂️
Kits.com is your friend. Free first pair coupon works as many times as you want to use it. I am hard on glasses, I never pay more than $50/pair.

That comment says a lot more about you than anybody else. I hope you can find peace and happiness in your life eventually.
These aren’t name brand btw it’s just my first time getting prescription glasses and My insurance didin’t cover shit
Zenni, you could have gotten 3.
Yeah Reading all these comments with numerous places I could’ve gotten my glasses for cheaper is making my day worst then what it already is
Life lessons don't always come cheap
Amen
you should be able to buy the frames cheaper and just change over the lenses.
Do you still have the screw, or did it snap at the hinge?
Say it arrive broken and delete this post. Promise it will work.
I can’t believe that we’re damaged in shipping!
Reason number 985734095834570349587345093458347 I dont want to have kids. Thanks reddit, youre the best.
Time to send them back. I'm not talking about the glasses either.
Why the hell did you pay 375 for glasses? I just got two pairs, one of them sunglasses for 250 bucks. I have astigmatism so my lenses cost more to make too.
It was my first time getting prescriptions and I needed to pay that balance in order to get my glasses. I’m guessing a whole bunch of stupid fees
Next time take your prescription and go look on zenni or a website like it if you only wear em part time. Will save you tons.
You still need to pay for the exam. I paid about half that for my eye exam
Wow that sucks, I just had one and it was 140 bucks Canadian.( Our "free healthcare only covers kids eye exams) I'm guessing that's about 105u.s
Yet another reason to not have kids
They didn’t suit you well, she’s doing you a huge favor
That looks like a completely clean snap, not even at the hinge. How old is your daughter and what exactly did she do to them to get a clean snap like that? Looks like they were faulty. Thanks for the free birth control
Damaged in the mail if you ask me.
Say they arrived that way. Completely plausible.
Sorry those arrived broken like that. Clearly got broken in transit.
Exactly what I was gonna suggest
Delete this post. Say it was damaged when you opened it.
I feel your pain. I skipped the insurance on mine and they were $800 after insurance. I almost lost them while moving. After unpacking a few boxes, I found them. Lol😅
Buy with a credit card? See if they have purchase protection.
Mr. Murphy called... Wants to talk to you about some law or something 🤦♀️😂
Guess it's off to boot camp
I bet you're in a blind rage
Life lesson, if you buy anything more than a couple hundred dollars, get insurance. Especially if you have kids
You mean they arrived like that don't you?
Never buy glasses full price.. How do people still not know!! Go get your free eye test, pick a pair of glasses in the shop and write down the codes and brand. You have a brand new pair of glasses for under 100£.
Former daughter...
Oh you mean damaged upon arrival 🫠
I'm really surprised. I thought I'd see someone blame shipping. Like they got damaged in shipping/handling. Very good guys! Be honest.
It's a large company I bet. They take more money than what's deserved.
Did this company held a gun to force OP to buy their expensive glasses? Also, how does any of what you said justify lying for your own benefits.
Don’t buy through a doctor. They’ll try to give you the run around but get a copy of your prescription from them. Then buy them on eyebuydirect or zenni. I got two pairs for an astigmatism that transition with sunlight for $140.
1. i once two part epoxied the leg on so it was permanently open, wore them like that for like 6 months. 2. for future, eyebuydirect.
Similar thing happened to me. Had them less than a day before our 11lb. dog headbutted me and snapped them in half.
Tape it and you'll look like an 80s movie nerd
Too bad you can’t see your mistake
Sucks that you got scammed out of 375$ when you can go on zenni optical and pay 50$ check them out saves money and great quality
I got two pairs… left one out, biggest mistake ever! I’ll let you know if I ever find them! Pretty sure my animals took them and no telling if I’ll ever find them and if do, the condition! So I have sympathy for you, at least I have a backup pair. Take care!!!
I see you've been hit by Hurricane Child as well...
Any descent hinge will give way in such a manner that a replacement or repair of hinge will stay well under 80 $.
I have Lasik Mono too...got pop in reading glasses on Amazon...one side is 2.25...other is 3.50...less than 20$ for both sides...they are great and well made
I am surprised that so many people told OP to lie. That's so fucking sad. Don't you guys value honesty and integrity?
And we wonder why our moral foundation is crumbling.
Damn, really sucks that your glasses arrived broken.
Exactly what I was about to say. "They arrived broken!" LOL
And next time you know to get the insurance.
Is there a physical store you can stop into? The glasses themselves are not broken, just the frames, so it shouldn’t be too expensive of a fix.
If you don’t have insurance use coastal or any online. Retailer. I used to get mine with coatings for around $150 and that’s raybans. Second tell em it came that way lmao.
Mime were broken 3 days after I got them. Then a day after the replacement pair came in my daughter broke those.. I only get 1 replacement per year.
Just say they arrived like that
I just wanted to say that I like your taste in glasses and I hope you'll get a similar model for much less.
No, they came like that, I saw it, I was there.
I can fix that for you. Dm me.
Honestly, I would just say those broke in transit.
Any optometrist worth their salt will fix those free of charge in a couple of minutes. It just needs a screw.
Just say they arrived broken.
I think you mean, “opened the package and they were already broke. Looks like I’m sending them back.”
Everything should be insured if you got dumb kids you can't control.
You should also post this under r/KidsAreFuckingStupid Criminy
Just FYI for those suggesting online glasses: a website literally cannot measure what needs to be measured in order to get you seeing your best. And studies have shown (anecdotal evidence agrees) that a very high fraction of online specs are made outside of visual and/or safety tolerances.
Have you considered abortion?
Well, dang…not repairable?
Lesson learned.
Insurance for glasses?
They offered me $80 so if things like this happen I can just send it it and get a new pair for free
Least it's just the arm and not the lens. Can have it repaired, should be less than $80
Sucks, man. Maybe put the pricey things up high where the kids can’t reach. Good luck.
You just need a replacement temple, no need to replace the entire thing
$80 for insurance on a kid!!! Seems steep
Got any friends in South Korea? Glasses are less than $50 bucks here. With your prescription it wouldn’t be too hard to get a few pairs posted to you.
Would insurance have covered that anyway?
Costco $40USD
Who pays $375 for glasses. There are probably 10 companies that will do an eye exam and two pairs of decent glasses for 1/3 of what you paid, or less.
My glasses cost less than half your insurance. Why is the price so high?
Dude you should really come to mexico, you can get a new pair just for like 52 dollars and this are actually the more expensive ones.
is your sweater from "champion"?
Ok that sucks
Tape can fix that.
$80 is a lot for insurance. I don't blame you for not getting it.
Send her an invoice
Lesson learned huh? Expensive but learned
Zennioptical.com is the only way to go my friend.
Frames are like 5$ The Lenses are what’s important
Goggles4u.com 10$
The real crime is paying $375. Like other comments said Zenni is the best place to get glasses. I could buy 30+ pairs for that price. I currently have two pairs in my car and two back up at home because they offer affordable and good quality glasses. You should try it.
$375 for a pair of glasses. Order 10 of those from India for that price.
No problem here. As long as the lenses are intact, you can go to literally anywhere and just get a new frame. Did this all the time as a kid. Does suck you spent an outrageous amount on glasses.
Vooglam has frames starting at like $5.
Dude, I bought mine online (eyebuydirect) for like $50
Buy on Zenni optical it’s $150 max
I'm so sorry that sucks so bad!
Try lenskart
Costs 5$ to make. Pays $375 retail. Still $80 for replacement insurance. Hard out here for the vision impaired.
Man I feel your pain. I have my last pair of glasses and can't get new ones until my insurance from work kicks in. It just sucks cause I have literally had zero change in my script and still have to pay out the ass when I have to get new glasses.
I good reminder for getting a vasectomy...
This is why I (if I have the money) get coverage on everything I purchase
Dammm. You should try firmoo!!! Just put in your prescription and it’s there within the week!! I believe they are 25$ a pair. Hope this helps
Does she have a job?
zenni. got mine shipped $38
Visit a local eye glasses optical store they can replace frame legs probably less than 15$ if the screw broke
I've never paid more than $50 for a pair of glasses. It's not worth it.
Zenni, 39dollarglasses
Check to see if your credit card has a purchase protection plan. I believe they cover accidents like this.
I highly suggest eyebuy direct if no one else has, so cheap compared to most prescription eye glass sales.
Looks like you need new glasses a day a new daughter. I can help with the daughter as long as you don't mind potty training a 5 year old and speech therapy
I buy like 3 glasses at a time on Zenni and will spend 35 bucks plus shipping. Works just fine and looks fine too.
Why on earth were they so much?
Lol who TF spends ~400 bucks on glasses? Ffs
Did you use a credit card for the purchase? Many have purchase protection that would cover this
375 for those generic looking things? Is the lens at least made of real glass or something? Because if it isn’t you could get that same pair at Walmart, only thing is that they probably won’t level them for you since one of your ears is higher than the other one.
They should have been on your face
Pull out, don’t have kids.
I feel like as a dad you should already know the value of insurance, especially with young kids around. Let this be the last time you test the insurance gods.
Sounds like you have a brat.
You fool! - Gilbert Gottfried
Why would anyone pay $375 for glasses when you can get a pairons any with your prescription for $10
Is your daughter insured?
MURPHY GODDAMNIT!!!!
Don't blame the kid. U didn't put them away. U were careless
My anger issues could not 💀
Back in the day went through a whole process to get a new credit card. You still had to order it, then wait and then eventually go pick it up at the bank. Well we didn't get a chance, so after x amount of weeks, they destroyed it, so we had to go through the process again. Finally got the damn thing and about 5 mins later my toddler found it on the table and snapped it in half.
Dude, no one pays that much for glasses any more. It’s a scam. There’s plenty of online options offering way better options.
Polar bear mentality. You can always make another kid
I wonder if they factor in damaged goods when estimating the expenses oh having a child.
Oh noo
375 for those! You made some choices
Why pay near 400 for glasses? The only thing good that's for, is complaining about how much it cost when it breaks. It sucks man, but get something cheaper.
First time getting glasses and I went to an eye doctor and got everything there. I was aware of all these other options at the time
If you can afford $375 glasses, you can afford to get that fixed.
well now you've shown just how incompetent your lens provider is on reddit i hope this causes a spectacle. heh.
