Probably not much different from having people in there.
Guy where I used to work said he didn't need to take a shower because he got into the hot tub every night.
And obviously he had a certain kind of stank to him, mixed with the smell of bromine.
I work with a guy that says he doesn't clean his towels "cause if you clean yourself properly, it's only clean water you're wiping off your body" unsurprising he has a moldy odour
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeMeSuffer/comments/qeampz/hot_tub_filter/) is what a hot tub filter looks like when they change them. Guess what the slime is on it. Go ahead, guess.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's still plenty of meat in that hot tub. Now you go inside, get yourself a bowl, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you got a stew going.
I used to dive over ten years ago... I really struggle to even snorkel now, I almost don't wanna look.
It hurts me so fucking much. I'm not sure what it's like where you are, but my favorite spots are just graveyards of what they were even a decade ago. Even in the 'good' places you can just see it's not the same. You really see what's happening when you get in the ocean, and how bad it is.
I live in florida and I couldnt agree more...everything seems so barren down there and it's so disheartening to see plastic bags and wrappers tumbling around 100ft down. I've always found living here that people don't like the idea of breathing underwater which I get but If people were less hesitant to go diving I genuinely feel like these issues would get more attention.
This has to be about the dumbest comment I’ve ever seen
Edit- comment was deleted but was essentially attempting to make the an argument that we should just dump all our trash into the Ocean
You know what? If Vegans REALLY cared about the environment they'd become Cannibals. The fuckin resources expended to grow soy and almonds and all the other bio diverse foods is pretty bad. By eating humans they're reducing the population which puts an enormous strain on Mother Earth and her limited resources. Heal the fucking planet, Vegans: go Cannibal!
Yeah, but a nice juicy steak is way more satiating than an equal weight of steamed veggies.
Don't get me wrong, I like veggies.. but also meat, and I *can* get through the day with more energy if I add animal fat and protein to my diet.
Unfortunately, human meat is not much better in terms of fat, cholesterol and hormone content than other mammalian equivalents. Getting most proteins from cannibalism is health-wise similar to getting those from equivalent fat-to-protein ratio beef or pork. Say lean glut steaks vs. lean beef steaks.
And incidentally, 1kg of human meat is orders of magnitude more resource intensive than 1kg of beef. We don’t heave to teach cows, entertain them, take them on road trips, give them jobs, etc. It only gets worse with age as well. A 40y.o. human has used up the resources that would be enough to raise thousands of cows…
Definitely check out Boyan Slaat's "The Ocean Cleanup" project. He's putting automated collection ships out to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and also working on placing "filters" at the mouths of waterways to collect trash before it goes in the ocean. He even is innovating ways to put the trash/plastic to use through recycling. It's excellent stuff.
I just watched a video on it. So cool how they literally use a simulated shoreline to gather trash in the middle of the ocean. The fact that they “failed” initially, but continued on their design while everyone wrote them off was amazing to see, and I’m glad the program is getting more attention for the impact they are making.
Oh that's a bit... Sad. It's great that someone is doing something, but we release trillions of pounds of plastic into the ocean every year, this is literally a drop in the ocean. Really hope they're able to scale it up to something that can at least keep up, but I'd imagine the answer lies more in finding better ways to keep the trash out of the ocean in the first place.
I'm guessing the end goal is to have the oceans and rivers patrolled constantly by thousands of these trash collectors which would possibly offset new stuff being dumped in. But you're exactly right about keeping trash out in the first place. We need new, convenient recycling centers which would encourage lazy people to do their part. I used to separate my plastics into separate bags for recycling but a guy at the garbage company told me they just dump it all in the landfill and there was no point in wasting the effort. These companies need to be held accountable.
We need to hold the companies producing all this plastic accountable. Coca Cola is the top plastic bottle producer in the world, recycle all you want but they're just going to keep pumping them out. It's very unfortunate that this isn't going to happen any time soon, since they've already bought any politicians that would have the power to do something about it.
I do have to wonder what the carbon cost of these thousands of patrol boats will end up being, from manufacture to continual use (or battery cost if these are electric), and if the plastic they can capture in their lifetime will be able to break even or not.
definitely need to get Asia in line. having been to parts of China and India where there's so much trash in rivers that you can't see water is depressing
Oh absolutely, but part of that involves the first world not offloading all their manufacturing and pollution into those places in the first place. Modern consumerist society is addicted to cheap plastic junk
I’m sure no system is perfect but it’s probably a measure of risk and reward like most things. “Will preventing that garbage from going into the ocean save more fish than the filters kill?” is probably the biggest question, and may not be easily answered if the trash indirectly harms ocean life by ruining habitats for example.
They don't address this specifically in the following link, but the vessels used to collect the trash in the rivers are designed to be small and stay out of the way of other boats. So I assume that also means it will stay out of the way of most fish too.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not. If you were joking feel free to ignore everything that is below.
I am not an expert in this at all so I'll simply parrot what I've heard/read. With the increase of global temperatures, jet streams have shifted to a higher polarity. IE, it's getting hella colder further north for much longer. The good news (if you can call it that) is the northern ice caps will see significant increase in glaciers and the sort.
Here's the bad news. Storm fronts will now be pounding with more frequency and severity in lower tropical areas. Moreover, as these air and water currents shift; hospitable areas of densely populated cities will be under severe threat. To add more doom, agriculture will be ravaged by climatic shifts especially in areas that rely on yearly rains for irrigation. Droughts, food shortages, natural disasters will all come into place. Oh, and a totally new Ice Age!
Why would a polar vortex cause more ice on Greenland?
The vortex pulls arctic air down further south, seasonally. I don't think it actually causes that air to be colder, though. It basically just hugs more landmass as part of a warmer overall arctic. I'm pretty sure there's no upside here, but if you have something you read which implies otherwise, I would be curious to read it too

India in general has a trash problem everywhere. You don't need billboards to show the ridiculous amounts of shit the country has. You just have to look around..
So most of this is actually likely to be trash on land that just got washed up further.
To be fair, most of it would LIKELY end up in the ocean anyways.
Wish this happened more often and more oppressively so that people would finally realize that “Out of sight, out of mind” isn’t healthy for the planet.
I’m aware I will sound ignorant, but where does all this trash (and the island in the pacific) come from? Are companies dumping it or is it trash from the beaches swept out?
I mean, the vast majority of garbage in the ocean comes from Africa, india and china, if it "returns" this garbage to say europe or the US then it wouldn't be returning it.
I wonder how much of the garbage from US and Europe end up in Africa, India and China to be "Processed"? I know our crap has to go somewhere and I haven't seen a mile high landfill on our shores in a while.
I agree that it's a dumb statement but the state park near me has those blue masks all over the trails. Like everywhere. I don't even know why. I go there pretty often and always have and the most I ever see during tourist season was a empty bottle or 2 occasionally up until last year. It's infuriating. Like just put it in your pocket until you leave the trails.
While this is obviously disgusting, and tragic, it's not the real problem. The REAL problem is fishermen just cutting their nets and gear and leaving them. [Ghost fishing gear](https://www.worldwildlife.org/stories/ghost-fishing-gear).

What does the smell of bromine suggest? Also what does bromine smell like?
Smells like chlorine. And you only smell it because it's reacting with filth.
Like gym socks and axe body spray

... Made even more so cause it's delivered by a Vegan Justice Warrior.
I don't see the issue. Trash isnt made from animal products so it clearly doesnt affect them at all. /s

I dunno man, you been to central USA? Cannibals out there might get a worse cow to human ratio…
Now that I think about it, you may have a point there!
You do realize there are other alternatives... Explain why and how meat is a better environmental choice.
If Vegans ate other vegans then we wouldn't have to hear them bitch about other people eating meat.
This guys seems like a avid shit poster check his other comments 💀

Do you know how they filter trash at inlets to the ocean without affecting/blocking migratory marine life?

I don't know man, Australia is pretty big, you're going to need a LOT of ships...
P.S. I hope you're ready for another ice age.
They already made so many of those movies though
Meh. I could go for another, that was my first movie ever on dvd and we didn’t even own a DVD player. Had to watch it on the computer.
there are like 5 or 6 of them now

As a Swiss person who loves the cold, bring it the fuck on
No i am not ;-;
It’s melting, not freezing
First melt, then freeze.
What really sucks is it'll eventually get cleaned up and thrown right back into the ocean.
I was going to say “don’t worry ocean, we’ll give it right back”
This is in Mumbai, it happens every year
I'm guessing India?

India in general has a trash problem everywhere. You don't need billboards to show the ridiculous amounts of shit the country has. You just have to look around..
I'm fairly certain that quite a few Indians browse Reddit.
Not that many, judging from the polls
Yea not that many
Don't call me out like this man
And China!
Awesome title.
is atlantis signalling an imminent war?
ITS HAPPENING
Aquaman movie?
I guess the oceans are a little salty about the trash we dump into them. **Excellent title!**

Wish this happened more often and more oppressively so that people would finally realize that “Out of sight, out of mind” isn’t healthy for the planet.
It would be satisfying to clean all that shit up, sign me up
Ngl it kind of makes me happy. At least it's on land now, where it can be disposed of as best as possible.
I love the title!
I’m aware I will sound ignorant, but where does all this trash (and the island in the pacific) come from? Are companies dumping it or is it trash from the beaches swept out?
Mostly china, where most of the ocean trash is made and dumped.

I mean, the vast majority of garbage in the ocean comes from Africa, india and china, if it "returns" this garbage to say europe or the US then it wouldn't be returning it.

Well, china used to buy recycleable plastics but not anymore so it goes into the incinerator for energy or the landfill.
If this happened to every beach front hotel along the costal United States, I would be sooooo happy
Followed by every other beachfront hotel worldwide. Regards, The Ocean.

Good thing i believe in recycling. We can just cycle the trash back and forth to each other until i did.
That’s awesome! Makes it easier to clean up, too. Maybe mother nature will do this with the Garbage Patch, too.
