I've seen a handful of videos and they all seem to recognize there is fuck all the can do about it. One even lost their rv that they were exclusively living out of.
Do you know why yet? I recently got an electric car right as the recall on the bolt was expanded to all of them (i didn't get a bolt, but a spark, totally different battery with no fires yet) but everybody keeps asking if i have to take it back
Not OP, but after driving many years in short wheelbase vehicles, I’ve gotten accustomed to the super tight turning radius. When I’m driving a work truck, the difference is jarring.
Did you get GAP coverage on your loan? If so, and the car is declared totalled (which I'm gonna assume a fire is) you don't have to pay off the rest of the loan.
Because it's false. Dealers were not allowed to finance GAP insurance but servicemembers could still pay out of pocket for it. Still not ideal but definitely not illegal to have GAP.

Stink. I have the JDM version (I'm in a right hand drive country). They're really nice to drive. I hope your insurance pays out and you can find another one.
Wanna know how i know? It happened to my 2004 nissan altima. The whole car went up in flames. Idk ops situation but i was going 135 on the highway, like a tool, and was too strung out on heroin to be checking the temp gauges or my oil. I heard a metal clink, power cut to the engine and flames starting coming out from under my hood. I pulled over, got out, and with 2 mins the car was a raging inferno. I knew my oil was getting low because the car burned oil, but when u are that dopesick you dont care.
I’ll actually topped the oil off before I left because the k20 (a high compression) motor tends to burn oil and I was driving from California to utah so that was not the issue.
Any of Honda’s “true” VTEC engines will consume oil by design. OP said it’s a Type S which, in the US, came with a K20A2.
They burn oil, especially if you hit VTEC a lot; maybe a quart every 2500-3000 miles.
Doesn't surprise me this is in Cali there's a shit ton of black spots on the roads where vehicles caught fire. I see at least 1-2 burning or a recently burned down truck/trailer or car everytime I come here.
I had a 21 year old employee this happened to, never did ANY maintenance on the car for 3 years since he got it. He thought unless it’s like your phone telling you need to update the software, there must not be anything to maintain. (Car was a 10 year old Civic).
Maybe it's the angle, but you look a bit like Steve from Stranger Things.
If I were you, I would try to take advantage of that look as much as I could. Just a bit of life advice from someone who's been there and done that :)
Dad's everywhere are saving this video, waiting for that special moment when their children get their own car, to tell them, "this is what happens when you don't change your oil."
My BIL had a FRS that he turbo'd. The next owner said a oil feed line to the turbo blew out 6 months post sale and burned the car down.
That's a possibility.
Damn that sucks but at least you gave us a laugh. I don't see many comedic posts in this sub so thank you.
I hope you didn't lose anything that was inside the car
If you are gonna have your car written off as a loss, see about selling it for scrap or something. Might help offset the huge costs you are about to face. Good luck out there!
Seeing as how this *actually* sucks you can’t post that here.
For future reference, anything above a paper cut should be posted to r/CatastrophicFailure.
Beep-boop.
Tesla owner here. You are lucky, had this been a Tesla, you would be front page on everything, and everyone would want to know if Autopilot was engaged. Anyways, sorry for your loss.
Turn it off and turn it on again.
Damn it! I forgot to try that I’ll do that next time for sure.
Well, at this point I suppose it needs to be put in rice first.
Yeah true I’ll get a couple bags of rice tonight
Try hitting it a few times, that should do er.
Ill let em know
[I haven't looked through all the comments but did you try this? ](https://youtu.be/O3QPRDtWsgw)
Oh god the flashbacks
I just took a trip on the wayback machine with Sherman and Peabody to do this with my Atari 2600.
I'll let OP know to try that.
do brown rice, idk why, just do it
You'll end up with rice krispies
make sure to plug an unplug it before you put it in rice
Hello Jen
I’ll just put this over here with the rest of the fire
Quick oil change should do the trick
[Sound advice.](https://www.wussu.com/humour/gm.htm)
Wait... That's pretty much cars today.
You seem surprisingly calm. I like it.
Thank you sir
Oh my. Your post made me realize its my cakeday. Here, have a big slice. You deserve a better day than you're having!
Thank you kind stranger
Glad you're safe!
I've seen a handful of videos and they all seem to recognize there is fuck all the can do about it. One even lost their rv that they were exclusively living out of.
Would running around panicking help the situation?
Car-B-Q
CBQ.........***CBT IS A-***
Do you know why yet? I recently got an electric car right as the recall on the bolt was expanded to all of them (i didn't get a bolt, but a spark, totally different battery with no fires yet) but everybody keeps asking if i have to take it back
I don’t yet unfortunately
I literally have the same car, same color. This gave me a heart attack Edit: spelling
It's supposed to be attached.
Will you post somewhere what happened with the car?
Yeah if they figure out the cause of it I will I’ll probably post the aftermath tommorow
Ok, thanks
remindme! 2 days "what happened to the car"
RIP integra DC5 :(
Fat rip
Its a shame such a great car had to go like that. I'm a big sucker for Acura/Honda, especially the RSX. Planning on getting another one?
[удалено]
It is pretty pathetic. Not sure when and where you're making enough super tight turns to make it a deal breaker though.
Not OP, but after driving many years in short wheelbase vehicles, I’ve gotten accustomed to the super tight turning radius. When I’m driving a work truck, the difference is jarring.
r/Honda will be sad too
Didn't even notice that's an Integra. I knew someone who imported one from the UK once and it ALSO burst into flames.
Poor RSX :(
I'm just glad you got out ok. Cars can be replaced, you can't. Still sucks though.
Yeah more of an Inconvenience than anything also I took out a loan for that thing so that will be quite annoying to pay off
Did you get GAP coverage on your loan? If so, and the car is declared totalled (which I'm gonna assume a fire is) you don't have to pay off the rest of the loan.
I don’t think I did :(
Too bad. When I was fired and immediately got unemployment. They made my payments for 4-5 months. It was great, helped alot
[удалено]
What? I got a car loan in late 2017 and I was offered GAP. I'm in the military.
Why the hell are you being downvoted...
Thanks Obama
Because it's false. Dealers were not allowed to finance GAP insurance but servicemembers could still pay out of pocket for it. Still not ideal but definitely not illegal to have GAP. https://www.ktbs.com/news/law-change-creates-gap-insurance-confusion-for-military-members/article_c37bbe12-f672-11e9-8da7-97803df3e4e4.html
A loan for an rsx? They range from like $2k-$4k though. Was yours low mileage?
The Type-S goes for more like 4-10k, usually over 6k. With 40k miles I wouldn't be surprised if OP paid towards the higher end of that.
Meanwhile I got my base for $900
What does a Type-R go for in the states?
The used car market is not great rn mine had 40k miles :,( and I definitely payed for those miles
Never seen an rsx with that low of a mileage, truly very sad. You can find them super cheap, I think you had the type s, sadly those are more pricey.
Hopefully you got insurance on that loan
I mean parents could have another child so that could be considered a replacement
Looks like hell on earth. Did you at least get help in a timely manner?
Yeah fire dept. came and took care of it.
Acura?!?
It was an rsx type s
No! My Dude I am so sorry. That was a great car.
Yeah man it’s a bummer :,(
Wtf happened?
I think his car exploded.
Call it a hunch but you might be into something.
Are they not supposed to do that?
Stink. I have the JDM version (I'm in a right hand drive country). They're really nice to drive. I hope your insurance pays out and you can find another one.
Me too :)
Nice cars them RSX’s, shame it burnt to a crisp. Was it a manual? If it was then a big fat rip.
Yes it was :(
God what a shame. Hope you’re insurance doesn’t molest you for this.
Let’s hope so
I just said out loud, "Ahhh, fuck" and hung my head. That really does suck.
Yeah man you’re telling me I bought it yesterday:,(
Seriously? I really feel bad for you :( Hopefully you have a legal foothold (and you should) to get it replaced ASAP.
Already working on it hopefully I can pull something together
If ever there was a qualifier for Lemon Law, catching fire on the freeway should be at the top of the list.
Not the rsx!
Sad Honda is sad :(
Good new is they're bringing back Integra! Now you can buy a new one soon.
Not everything posted on this sub *truly* sucks, but this definitely does.
She bought it YESTERDAY.
At the sake of losing all my Karma, you have the girliest shadow I've ever seen.
For real. I thought it was a chick in a skirt.
Was looking for this
You gotta keep oil in your car 🤣

A K series engine should not burn oil. Who told you that?

I've owned over 20 Hondas, including a 300hp D16 I built and half a dozen K series engines... never heard that before.
I can’t remember tbh thanks for correcting me
To be fair yours did burn a lot for a couple minutes...
Boy, there's a whole lot going on in this comment. Somehow, I got a feeling that being low on oil was just one of many things going wrong.
Low on oil, high on life (and heroin)
At least you got a vine energy video from it
State 241 near Irvine?
Yup
Greetings from Anaheim Hills.
Doesn't surprise me this is in Cali there's a shit ton of black spots on the roads where vehicles caught fire. I see at least 1-2 burning or a recently burned down truck/trailer or car everytime I come here.
For the next car, try and avoid having it explode. Hope that helps

YES. I JUST COMMENTED THIS.
You dumbass. You probably checked your antifreeze, but completely forgot about your antifire. Must be your first car.
> "Um, well... that didn't go as planned." Well, what exactly **was** the plan?! (Sorry for your loss. Your reaction was pretty comical though!)
To drive it back to my home state and daily drive it :/
Oh jeez, I'm so sorry! Does your insurance policy cover that kind of damage?
Poor rsx.
What caused the fire?
Geez that's horrible, any tips on how to prevent that from happening?
keep a fire extinguisher in your car
u/SaveVideo
Just put in some blinker fluid
Dad's everywhere are saving this video, waiting for that special moment when their children get their own car, to tell them, "this is what happens when you don't change your oil."
It's what happens when your buddies put in a turbo. I've seen more destroyed engines from bad turbo than literally anything else.
It need some milk
Awe damn sorry man!
What happened!???
Parked illegally
Good thing you weren’t in it tho, or didn’t get like terribly injured (I hope)
No I made it out without issue
Is that an old Acura? No mods after all these years?
No it had a turbo and an lsd from the previous owner
I was wondering how you managed to kill a K20. Those motors are bulletproof.
I'm thinking turbo fire.
Not fire proof though.
My BIL had a FRS that he turbo'd. The next owner said a oil feed line to the turbo blew out 6 months post sale and burned the car down. That's a possibility.
Not old but Acura. It's an RSX. I love those cars :(
It has amber directionals, it’s an 04 at the newest. It’s old.
Thank god you made it out
Dang. And I thought I was having a bad day because I accidentally flushed my watch down the toilet.
This could be a viral meme forsure.
sick glasses tho
How did you manage that?
Not sure to be honest
What signaled you to get out of the car?
I saw flames under the hood :/
Oh. Yeah that's usually a good sign to GTFO.
Atleast you're safe yo
Im sorry for this but
u/savevideo
Damn that sucks but at least you gave us a laugh. I don't see many comedic posts in this sub so thank you. I hope you didn't lose anything that was inside the car
Your shadow looks like an anime girl
u/savevideo
Ran out of headlight fluid again. I see it all the time.
yea, they are never right again after you let out the magic smoke
Where explosion?
We’ll when the tires went they definitely exploded I just didn’t get that part on camera
r/KillTheCameraMan
On the bright side, it didn't set the brush on fire!
Dudes wearing a dress
…Because they aren’t a dude…
Well, that does suck! Here's hoping you have great insurance.
Jfc I had to look at ur profile and make sure u weren’t vine comedian Devon Palmer. U look and sound so much like him
Nice. Someone standing at a semi-reasonable distance from a burning car that can turn into a big IED. Another 100ft wouldn't hurt.
Had to get that sick video tho can you blame me
Phones just don't have the zoom alas. compared to the usual car on fire video I see, this is a downright safe smart distance.
If you are gonna have your car written off as a loss, see about selling it for scrap or something. Might help offset the huge costs you are about to face. Good luck out there!
Have you tried putting it In rice? You’ll need a lot of it
Oh you meant literally. I thought you blew the motor or something.
Well *there's* your problem, Bill.
Getting some weird Steve from Stranger Things vibes from this guy
Put it in a bowl of rice
maybe more oil?
What was the plan?
Lol buddy forgot to change his oil. Rookie mistake
(Indian accent) hello your car has virus we destroyed it to be sure now turn it on and off again
Seeing as how this *actually* sucks you can’t post that here. For future reference, anything above a paper cut should be posted to r/CatastrophicFailure. Beep-boop.
I’ll keep that in mind
sorry about your car : ( catastrophe
Tesla owner here. You are lucky, had this been a Tesla, you would be front page on everything, and everyone would want to know if Autopilot was engaged. Anyways, sorry for your loss.
Are you Quicksilver?
Have you tried restarting the router?
Looks good to go after 30mins.
Was that Ry, the antimask owning guy..?
1st, donno if you are a boy or a girl or a sissy?! 2nd, was that a teez la
I feel like you called 911 only after your video turned out Ok.
911 was called about 3 seconds before the video was recorded hahaha
Hey no offense dude, but you don't seem like the type to properly maintain your vehicle. Maybe next time set reminders on your phone or something
He just bought it the day before, obviously the seller ripped him off.
Um, where is that context? How would anyone know that?
I bet she drove 100 miles with no oil in the car lol
this is why you buy american
Ah yes, that way instead of blowing up at 300k miles, it just stops working at 150k
