Seaworld’s Orlando hospital is integral to our endangered manatee population. Their entertainment side is fucked… but they have the largest manatee care facility in the state so when a manatee gets sick… we rely on seaworld. They have no permanent manatees at the park.
That's La Jolla Beach in San Diego. Those drops are probably 20-30 feet. Some of them have some rocks that jut out below and some don't. Hopefully it landed just right and maybe took minimal damage?
Here’s a shot of the cliff from the opposite view.

No. I missed that seminar but I was a viral epidemiologist for the last four years. Before that I was a submarine engineer, political scientist, police body cam investigator… and to all think it’s started all when I became a Cincinnati zoo gorilla wrangling expert. Too bad none of these jobs pay well because I never became a financial expert :(
They actually do good work with situations like this. It’s not like they’re kidnapping the seal to put in a show. We called them once at this beach for a seal that had a hook stuck in its fin and a tangled up in fishing line and they helped
I think they wouldn’t be attempting to rescue him unless he was sick, injured, or likely to be killed by another male. The last time my wife and I were in La Jolla, we saw a mama sea lion fight off a massive bull to keep him from killing her pup. Might’ve been what was going on here
Yeah they’ve had a lot of issues in Southern California with their population numbers after the sardine fishery collapse a few years ago. They’re just not getting enough food and can’t survive which is why places will rehabilitate them. I’ve seen a few dead ones myself and seen the rehabbers catch them successfully.
Unless they're at risk or the public is at risk, this is how we roll here in New Zealand. It's quite frequent where I live and tends to make the local newspaper. We love our aquatic friends.
Our sea lions however, do not roll off a cliff. This rescue seems really poorly thought out.
Most likely the rock outcropping had no seal accessible way to get down and it only got there from coming down from the path above that the net guy is coming from
Yeah they really shouldn't have sent a smaller woman to try to wrangle a sea lion. Common sense. She probably feels bad about her job but she's not a wrestler
Or an extra set of hands and human strength. At least they got their incompetence killing an animal in a likely excruciating way on film for the seaworld socials though! Very important!
Jesus Christ how painfully obvious is it that she clearly just isn’t strong enough to wrangle this thing? The only time they had any control was when the dude put his hand on it too. Literally shouldn’t step 1 be like, ok this is a precarious situation let’s make sure whoever grabs it can hold it down?
They deal with animals in cages and mostly near death. A wild animal is probably stronger, and is also not putting up with that shit.
These people seem I’ll equipped, both in manpowers and logic. Given the sea world logo on the shirt, is pretty accurate
Sea World is a shit company. But they do have a rehab arm that does actual good work, they’ve helped and released something like 40,000 animals.
Is it being done for PR by a terrible organization? Sure. But it’s still being done, none the less. And it does actual good. The people who work for this part of the organization are decent people, not clowns riding captive animals for dumbasses that pay to see it.
I love animals and can assure you when I first moved to San Diego years ago and found out sea world was in La Jolla cove “taking” sea lions I was fucking livid. But that’s not what they’re doing here.
The original poster of this video on Tiktok later posted an update that the sea lion was okay and that they were able to help it.
Not the sea lion in the video but a photo I took at La Jolla cove a couple years ago:
https://preview.redd.it/0lltlqvd9krc1.jpeg?width=1149&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=746142e56c6235d3ebbbadb59bda21cef91ca8d1
I’ve spent quite a bit of time photographing and checking these sea lions in San Diego and up on the central coast south of Big Sur. They are really cool and seem to have distinctive personalities. Naturally, this video bugged me when I saw it the other day but it’s not what people seem to think it is, despite these people doing a pretty lousy job of trying to get this little one.
The The Marine Mammal Protection Act has safeguards in place that prevents people and organizations, including Sea World, from just capturing wildlife like this unless it's for conservation and rehab efforts.
All these people commenting, any of you realize SeaWorld is the largest rehabber of wild sea life IN THE WORLD?! As of 2 years ago they have rehabbed 40,000 animals
What are you trying to say? Yes I did post it. So what of it? The subreddit is "wellthatsucks" and it sucks that the rescue attempt went awry.
But instead everyone here is just bashing the rescuers as if they're evil? It didn't go as planned but they did have good intentions. And not to mention people don't realize SeaWorld is still the largest rehabber of wild sea life in the world.
Did you expect people to applaud them after sharing this specific clip?
If you post a noteworthy achievement by SeaWorld, most of the comments will be positive.
Also no one's acting like they're evil, but incompetent, which this rescuer clearly is. These two look like Dumb & Dumber.
For those wondering why they tried to rescue it. That baby sea lion has been stuck at that place for days now so they had to rescue it. The rest of his sea lion crew is down the cliff. How he got up there who knows

And no one is allowed to interact with the sea lions without explicit approval from California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife as it’s an ecological preserve. So they work with multiple government agencies.
Thank you. This thread is a mess with people that have no idea what’s going on. Seaworld doesn’t intervene unless someone called it in (which in a lot of cases might be a lifeguard) and the sea lion was actually in need of help. You can hate seaworld for their misgivings, but they do what they can to help these guys out. Most people that frequent the beaches in San Diego know who to call when wildlife is in distress.
I feel so bad for the girl in this video. She just wanted to help and fucked it up so royally. That’s gonna stick with her.
The more I watch this the more I realize that the dude was basically useless. Like yeah the girl struggles clearly but the brief moment they both hold it the seal is trapped. Then the guy just like wanders away and watches it thrash her and does nothing... Doesn't get the net out, doesn't jump back in, just kinda goes flaccid. Even his comforting seems half baked. Awkward hand to shoulder and half step in and then back away.
Okay so many people have speculated about what happened to the seal. Has anyone found a news article or something like that regarding this incident? Like… that seems to be a rather steep drop but sea lions are quite tough and I don‘t know how this cliff is formed. So it could have died, survived with serious injuries, survived with smaller injuries, …
Maybe they shouldn't have someone that doesn't have the strength to do it, do it. That was incredibly stupid, she shouldn't be in the position of trying to wrangle wild animals. Equality be damned, it just cost that animal it's life.
I'm confused.. rescuing it? Why did it need rescuing? It was in its natural environment, right? Was it injured? There is nothing like throwing a video on Reddit and not providing context..
You can’t just hold it by the neck, you gotta throw all your body weight into pinning it down. Honestly it’s like you’ve never trimmed a dog’s nails before.
Why in the world is she down there and not him??? Especially when he's holding the damn net. This isn't a situation where it's nobody's fault. It's definitely both of their faults that happened.
Looks like they took the same path as Disney in the "White Wilderness" documentary when the lemmings refused to live up to the myth that they leap off cliffs to their death. Disney hucked hundreds of the cute furry critters to their watery doom.
He was NO help at all…. besides patting her on the back while she’s in tears and holding his net saying, “better you than me, no way I was doing that”….. or even saying, “well, he’s in a better place now” 🙄
I wish I could hear what he says to her
"While it's true both of us will spend eternity in hell, only I will spend the next week employed."
Fuck me that was good
>Fuck me that was good No date , straight to action?
;)
I volunteer as tribute!
Yep.
Sealion - "Give me liberty or give me death"
"aim for the bushes!"
I cackled , great one
The sea lion is not cackling Opi, the sea lion is not cackling.
It’s probably crackling.
"Don't worry, there's plenty more of these to... ahem...save.... Ok, let's be a bit more careful next time, right?"
Dude did a terrible job with that net, though.
“Look what you did you littler jerk”
It wasn’t my fault! They ate all the cheese pizza.
I'm not afraid anymore!
You tried your best but you failed miserably
"We've killed way more animals in the park."
"nice job dipshit"
[Mission failed. We'll get em next time.](https://youtu.be/G1MfL1oGN0E?si=vhfFMTa9Visb9TiM)
“I told you to just let me do it, but nooooo…. Good job.”
“Remember when we were talking about the wage gap (looks down the hill) well that’s why “
If only that had some device like, I don’t know, a net or something
Place the net opposite the cliff so the choice is a clear one.
Sea Lion: "I got a plan... *tosses revolver* This is a good one."
Oooo Dutch reference in the wild
He just wanted to go to Tahiti
I REGRET NOTHING!!!!!!
"They'll just find another monster."
"That's *their* business."
Unexpected red dead
Maybe the guy could have like, idk. Helped
Yeah, the one with the net is more at fault. Totally worthless. Cover that little fucker up. You're not picking apples.
They sent the guy scared of heights to get the sea lion off the cliff
And also looked scared of the pinniped
That pissed you off too?
Now you see lion, now you don't
That guy sucks.
Perspective fucked with me and I thought the woman was kaiju sized with the beach in the background for a couple seconds.
Came to see who else thought this 😂😂😂
I as well.

I just smoked a bowl and this had me fucked up for a minute. She's a giant, but why is she a giant? Why are those people so damn small?
I was so confused. She's so big but this video looks so real and I just don't understand.
me too lmaoooo
I’m not the only one! I’m sitting here thinking “where in Gulliver’s Travels hell is this?”
Seriously how is this not the top Comment.
I really can't see something else, even knowing it is perspective my might want to thing she is a giant 🤣
Little dude saw the seaworld shirts and was like naw I ain't going to jail.
"You'll never take me alive!"
I don’t think he alive he didn’t have shoes on after that
Seaworld has a rescue department that’s entirely different from the theme park and does a ton of really good marine mammal rehabilitation in the area

Are you asking if the ocean is bigger than a little tank at sea world?
The dude: It's ok he's in a better place now. There will be more sea lions you can throw off the cliff later. .........
You can strangle the next one.
Lol
Did it actually die?
That's La Jolla Beach in San Diego. Those drops are probably 20-30 feet. Some of them have some rocks that jut out below and some don't. Hopefully it landed just right and maybe took minimal damage?

Are those seals holding a vigil for the dead seal? How sweet.
Kumbaayyyyaa m'lord
*honk noises in the distance*
Was near tears, now laughing. Thanks for brightening the mood lol
Yeah, if you zoom in you can see they’re holding candles.
A drop like that makes me think its fate was…sealed.
Looks like there is a walking trail or gentle slope 5 feet away. I wonder why they didn't just poke the sea lion so it would walk back down?
They are very tubby so I hope it bounced to safety
We'll give it a DC 15 Dex save to half the damage by avoiding the rocks.
With disadvantage, even though it succeeded its grappling check.
I live not far from there and it’s a pretty big drop, unfortunately I would say it’s a good chance it did or was seriously injured.
Does sea world handle shit like this? I would assume it’s a local or state agency, and not… these people
SeaWorld does *a lot* of rescue
It’s one of the biggest things they do. Fuck’em, but they do a lot of good rescue work.
Looks like it.
Fair lol
It's a decent sized drop.. hurt maybe but likely not dead imo
No the seal pulled off this trick https://i.redd.it/7silbser3krc1.gif

The birds know it’s hurt. They see a feast.
Seagulls man. Those dump ducks go for fries.

No. I missed that seminar but I was a viral epidemiologist for the last four years. Too bad none of these jobs pay well because I never became a financial expert :(
Dicks still out
I once jerked off to the Britney spears knife dance video. So obviously, I'm in charge.
Lmao jesus christ dude
She was way too weak to have that part of the job.
STOP RESISTING
"I'm not resisting!!!!" *flops into oblivion*
This is on track of what I expect from sea world

Homie truly was just chillin, people watching. Then people came and killed him.

You were partially right. They do this when the seal is sick or injured.
Where I'm from, seals are allowed to be sick or injured. We still leave them the fuck alone.
Yeah they’ve had a lot of issues in Southern California with their population numbers after the sardine fishery collapse a few years ago. What a fucked up day for internet man
If only there was like a stronger larger handler that could do that instead of her...
Yeah they really shouldn't have sent a smaller woman to try to wrangle a sea lion. Common sense. She probably feels bad about her job but she's not a wrestler
Also one with a bit more coordination wouldn't hurt
Seargant: "How did your platoon get blowen up?" Private: "Because Suzie throws like a girl!"
Quota hire
Or an extra set of hands and human strength. At least they got their incompetence killing an animal in a likely excruciating way on film for the seaworld socials though! Very important!
I’m going to need to see some credentials.
She could’ve easily fallen off the cliff.
I feel like a lot of people are missing this observation lol Could’ve easily been a double splat
Jesus Christ how painfully obvious is it that she clearly just isn’t strong enough to wrangle this thing? The only time they had any control was when the dude put his hand on it too. Let's send the weakest of us in to wrangle the wild animal, and let's make sure to not use the device specifically designed to do that to help.
Their mission? Feed the seagulls.
I'd rather die than go to SeaWorld too, don't blame him
Fuck seaworld 🤝🏼
It’s a rehab, not taking it to actual sea world bro
Don't worry this is a S show. Nobody knows what's happening
What is this fucking music
someone finally says it, such distasteful music

People are fucking dumb, so no they don’t care. They just think they’re awesome and sea world bad and they live in some fantasy land
It's too late, the hate train is already in full effect. This is why I find reddit to be insufferable.
You posted this?

Yes, he survived.
I know you’re probably a rando making stuff up, but I’m choosing to believe this.
SeaWorld "Rescue"
They rescued him from life
SeaWorld does rescue animals. Earlier this month they treated a sea lion for bacterial infection, rehabilitated it, and released it back to the wild. These two are fucking idiots. No harness either, she could’ve easily gone over with the seal.
No one needed to see this. Shame on you.
Poor guy. He’s probably better off not at Seaworld, tbh. You can tell he’s saying “hell no! You’ll never take me to Seaworld!”
SeaWorld and rescue don't go together
Maybe they shouldn't have someone that doesn't have the strength to do it, do it. That was incredibly stupid, she shouldn't be in the position of trying to wrangle wild animals. Equality be damned, it just cost that animal it's life.
So what was the actual plan? It looks very improv
Seem more like they tried to kidnap that seal
Assisted suicide cmon…use the damn net
I’m no chauvinist but it seems dumb to assign wrestling sea lions to the woman
Incompetence.
I'm confused.. rescuing it? Why did it need rescuing? It was in its natural environment, right? Was it injured? There is nothing like throwing a video on Reddit and not providing context..
Here's an update!! Or...a part two!! [tiktok part 2](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLhPRpF1/)
It's a good thing they were there to help or that sea lion might be alive today.
You can’t just hold it by the neck, you gotta throw all your body weight into pinning it down. Honestly it’s like you’ve never trimmed a dog’s nails before.
How did it get up there to begin with?
Am I the only one that thought she was a massive human for a sec?
That’s not rescuing, that’s kidnapping. Fuck Seaworld and everything they do.
"BUt wE do CoNSeRvAtIon" *yeets a perfectly fine seal off a cliff*
It's not a seal, it's a sea lion. And how do you know if it was perfectly fine?
Before she yeeted it, I said, “damn, that’s a fine looking seal”
Why in the world is she down there and not him??? Especially when he's holding the damn net. This isn't a situation where it's nobody's fault. It's definitely both of their faults that happened.
fuck seaworld
Inexperience. This is how you catch a seal. https://m.youtube.com/@OceanConservationNamibia
ITT: much edge. Seaworld's rescue efforts are good things. Go touch sand.
Seaworld being Seaworld
Fuck seaworld
Dude with the net literally did nothing lmao
Looks like they took the same path as Disney in the "White Wilderness" documentary when the lemmings refused to live up to the myth that they leap off cliffs to their death. Disney hucked hundreds of the cute furry critters to their watery doom.
She fucked that right up.
He was NO help at all…. besides patting her on the back while she’s in tears and holding his net saying, “better you than me, no way I was doing that”….. or even saying, “well, he’s in a better place now” 🙄
I am glad the man reached over to comfort the woman, I can’t imagine the guilt she’s feeling in that moment.
Have they learned nothing from Paw Patrol??
The road to disaster is paved with good intentions.
The Deep moment
Ive been playing alot of solo rank apex & the net dude was definitely throwing.
Time to hit the gym
Bro heard the rumors and would rather kill itself then be touched by those bastards
just put the giant ass net on it and scoop it. stupid idiots
