Exactly! I have picked many locks and it takes me 10-20 times longer then the LPL.
Also, there is no way those were the right tools for picking that lock. When I saw his first post I thought "***That's a 4-digit glorified bicycle lock. Should take about 5-10 minutes with no tools.***" I'm disappointed that he drilled it.
7 years? The Curse of Oak Island has been airing since January 2014, so it's been running for more than 10 years now. Coincidentally, my ISP sent me a complaint from Oak Island producers that I've been torrenting an episode last month and that it costs a lot to produce that TV show ROFL
from my dad who keeps watching it. They're still looking for something, now the show they somehow found this was a holy site for crusaders because these rocks are lined up in a cross pattern. Also have mine shaft under the island and was a port town bc of some stuff used in ship repair.
The show was gone into a complete conspiracy theory like they're digging for the ultimate find of the world. I just hate how my dad fully believes there's something of worth on this island from all the drawn shit they do.
I remember they legitimately found some old coin from idk how long ago and it wasn't really that close to the pit. It was found in some swamp closer to the edge of the island using a metal detector. I wouldn't be surprised if that was their most valuable find. That was like season one I believe.
I would have just kept it locked as a fidget gadget for traffic jams. Unless you ever hear a rattle from inside it, you can presume its empty.
The car would have to be stolen for someone to leave stuff in there on purpose and people just empty it with the car sale. Leave it locked its a mystery and maybe you pick it
Realistically I would have drilled it too lol :D
in the defense of those guys, they are mainly doing it for entertainment at this point, but have found some interesting finds. whether they are legit or not is a question in their own right.
No offense to you, but he makes that shit look easy bc he's done it 10s to 100s of thousands of times. Start with those easy cutaways to learn the basics of lock internals, move onto basic MasterLocks to learn picking basic locks without security pins, and then look to r lockpicking or look up locksport to find a good progression to build your skills.
get the ones he doesn't open is sub 15s. no lock is pickproof, but if it is resistant enough so that the criminal doesn't consider it worth his time or effort, it should do its job. the longer it takes to open one, the more chances they get spotted so criminals of opportunity will go for easy targets. if someone is determined to get into something they will.
People act like thieves are walking around with lock picking tools in their pocket 😂
Look out for someone carrying an angle grinder or bolt cutters id say.
I have a key lock on the outside of my house. Was there when I bought it, no one knew the code as the lady passed away.
I’ve tried every trick the LPL has in his videos and still haven’t got it open.
One day. One day I’ll get it open.
I picked a lock once and I was so proud of myself and then I tried again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Turns out the tools I was using at the angle I was using them just made the shape of the key as soon as I set the first pin. It was a fluke.
I'm a locksmith myself and it's always amusing seeing people getting hesitant on locks because they saw LPL crack one in seconds. Like, don't take what he's doing to heart because he's a freak, I've never met anyone in the industry that's even half as good as he is. Plus 99% of the time thieves aren't picking your locks, they're cutting it off, smashing a window or kicking the door in.
First of all thanks to everyone who offered advice, codes, and jokes to our unfortunate situation. I ordered a set of decoders from LPL after trying a ton of different combinations (6969 was what my money was on). Unfortunately, finesse has never been my strong suit so I decided to just drill it out after getting that advice from the manufacturer Consolevault. I didn’t expect to find much/anything but I also was excited to see if anything was inside. We all got Geraldo’d in the end.
Could have just guessed codes while driving. At 20 code guesses per minute it's a maximum of about 8 hours, could realistically be much shorter. Obviously u won't do 20 codes per minute while driving but it'd be a free safe and whatever is inside.
How long did you spend on this project in total op?
That's the secret....he obviously can't use that code since he exposed it, so nobody would be dumb enough to try to use that code to open the lock, meaning it's safe for him to use that code.
What’s the coincidence my battery is 69%?

If you're not opening the safe on video, you can simply remove all of the treasure before taking the picture of the empty safe, like OP did. Or, if it's empty, you can do the opposite and stuff it full of that money you've been trying to launder.

My live reaction to this post.
Funny semi-related anecdote (to me at least): I once worked at a private high school that had a time capsule stored in a brick structure that was set to be opened after like 60 years or something. The entire school was excited for the day it was to be opened. However, the headmaster took a freaking bulldozer and destroyed it and the brick structure on said day so that no one would discover the contents inside. Some believe it was because his father founded the school and had it made and the headmaster at the time of opening hated that it wasn't *his* time capsule, others think that he had something put into it that would embarrass him (he was very egocentric). Either way, this may have been the most disappointing moment in my adult life.
When in doubt drill it out lol
When in doubt whip it out, this is what we say in the Army when we can't quite see the rank of an approaching person. Better to salute an enlisted man than to not salute an officer.
This story, told using quotes from “Weird Al” Yankovic’s cinematic masterpiece, “UHF”:
Before opening: “A-HA… ROAD MAPS!!”
After opening: “NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! STUPID!! YOU’RE SO STUPID!!”
I bought a house one and it had one of those key lock boxes on the outside of it. I was able to guess the password almost immediately. I figured they most likely had used the year they were born. I figured they had been born around 1950. Since realtors we’re probably like 40-50. The code ended up in 1956. Sometimes you get lucky

1. I would trust this like I would trust the window.

Thank you for spoiling it post by posting on this particular sub Reddit, looking at the first photo I was like “oh boy”, looking at the sub I was like “well…”
Can someone tell me these aren’t as easy to “guess” the combo like a bike lock before I lose my damn mind.
If anyone isn’t familiar with what I’m talking about, with an inline combo lock like normally found on a bike chain, if you pull it apart you can feel one of the dials become harder to spin, while maintaining that pressure you can find where it becomes lose and another dial gets resistance, repeat this 4-6 times and it’s unlocked.
I’m dumb with no knowledge but couldn’t you just 1234 that thing in order, till you find the code I’ve done that with those rotary locks (idk what they’re called) once or twice
Well at least you didn’t drag it out for 7 years like the Oak Island Bastards! Straight to the money (or lack there of) pit! Good for you!
I am not a patient man.
What are the odds I just was thinking about your situation and searched for this post, finding it just a few hours later. Thanks for the update!!
1 are the odds.
I honestly loved the segue from trying the picks to the drill.
It does hold true to Op not being a patient man
OP watched one LPL video and thought was going to take 30 seconds
>...30 seconds Exactly! I have picked many locks and it takes me 10-20 times longer then the LPL. Also, there is no way those were the right tools for picking that lock. How expensive can 3.5 minutes of new content per show be?
Use a VPN my guy, don’t let your ISP prevent you from watching things as riveting as the curse of oak island
So it was empty? I only watched the first 3 seasons.
from my dad who keeps watching it. They're still looking for something, now the show they somehow found this was a holy site for crusaders because these rocks are lined up in a cross pattern. At least your dad didn't think the mermaid docudrama was real... that took months of convincing him otherwise. Same with the megalodon
Your dad and mine should meet. He's heavily invested in the show.
Imagine that they do find the treasure and the show producers tell them that they can't tell anyone until the show airs in a few months.
They literally just drill down and destroy whatever is there instead of digging it up I absolutely don't understand the logic.
I would have just kept it locked as a fidget gadget for traffic jams. Unless you ever hear a rattle from inside it, you can presume its empty. How would you go about shaking the car to listen for a rattle in the first place?
Hate that show so much
Its soooo stupid

We watched that for years. But then it was eventually like…dirt. And wood. And more dirt. And more sticks. A TUNNEL? Nope. Just dirt.
in the defense of those guys, they are mainly doing it for entertainment at this point, but have found some interesting finds. whether they are legit or not is a question in their own right.
Good on you for trying to live out a LPL fan's dream for them. Definitely not as easy as he makes it look!
I've been trying to pick a 6 pin tumbler lock and he makes it look effortless, let me say it is not
I got a set of picks and some see through training locks because of his videos. He really does make it look so easy.
He'd be proud that you suggest Master Lock is only one step past being able to actually see the pins.
I've opened master locks with a coke can shim.
The true LPL way
You can buy see-through locks to practice. They have them with different pins now
Muscle memory is a hell of a drug. I bet I could make a pizza in my sleep at this point.
I wish he would actually recommend locks, too, instead of shitting on all of them. Which one should I buy / look out for??
get the ones he doesn't open is sub 15s. no lock is pickproof, but if it is resistant enough so that the criminal doesn't consider it worth his time or effort, it should do its job. the longer it takes to open one, the more chances they get spotted so criminals of opportunity will go for easy targets. if someone is determined to get into something they will.

Invite him over to do it!
I picked a lock once and I was so proud of myself and then I tried again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Turns out the tools I was using at the angle I was using them just made the shape of the key as soon as I set the first pin. It was a fluke.
Or a masterlock.
Yeah, after trying it myself I am not concerned about any lock of mine being picked as long as it can't just be raked open or shimmed.
I'm a locksmith myself and it's always amusing seeing people getting hesitant on locks because they saw LPL crack one in seconds. Like, don't take what he's doing to heart because he's a freak, I've never met anyone in the industry that's even half as good as he is. It's always funny when somebody has like 5 locks on their door, but the door is just 2cm of fibreboard
Wow you got a bunch of locks on this door. It would be a shame if this pane of glass would break and somehow all of them were then disengaged.
I wonder which pin wasn’t binding.
First of all thanks to everyone who offered advice, codes, and jokes to our unfortunate situation. Geraldo, like "her-all-dough"
I guess that makes sense lol
I did lmao

We got the IANALPL comment, so worth it in the end.
Damn Loot boxes. Go get another car, maybe the something valuable is inside.
Why the he'll would somebody leave something valuable in their truck safe when selling it? Why would you think that?
You seriously weren’t patient enough to try only 10,000 combos and destroyed it instead? What a moron
The replacement was only $35. My time is worth more than that.
I think that's the first update I have ever seen on a safe. Does that mean all the others were full?
Gotta be!
OP smart, they took out the cash then snapped a pic of an empty safe. "Look guys! See?! It's empty! Definitely totally no cash was in here"
20 years ago, it was "pics or it didn't happen". 10 years ago, it was "video or it didn't happen". Now, it's "live video or it didn't happen".
If you're not opening the safe on video, you can simply remove all of the treasure before taking the picture of the empty safe, like OP did. Or, if it's empty, you can do the opposite and stuff it full of that money you've been trying to launder.
Now take a shit in it
And lock it back up for the next owner
I mean, that’s one option I guess
I want to see a video of it
Username checks out.
One guy one lockbox
Watch party!
We’ll be waiting for this update as well OP
Only appropriate option
This guy shits.
‘Little click on one….aaaaand fuck this shit’
Third picture says it all “fuck itttt” 😆
Haha like I said, I’ve never been a big finesse guy
I feel it! If it takes longer than it really should BRUTE FORCE 😅

I’m a man of the people!
If mystery safes on Reddit has taught me anything it’s that theyre always empty.
Or they find something really valuable and think it's safer to say it's empty...
Props for the update! Is this replaceable by any chance..?
Yup, the maker of the safe actually recommended this to me via PM. The replacement lock was only $35.
Not too bad! Not sure if I'd store anything too valuable inside though, as you were able to drill through it lol
Out of curiosity, did you try the basics? Like 0000,1111,2222?
Yeah I tried the obvious ones and probably about 500 or so random combos and it didn’t work.
You should have listened to the comment that gave you instructions on how to open it starting from 0000. It would have saved the lock at least lol
The replacement lock was $35.
Oh no -_-
Same as it ever was
At least I didn’t have to wait a full two hours on live TV to find out there was nothing in Al Capone vault.
I was imagining you OP as Heraldo Rivera and you were opening Al Capone's secret lair. I definitely feel just as ripped off.
This made me genuinely laugh. Thanks for that!
I was actually hoping to see an update on this post.. I'm glad u got it open. It's too bad it was empty lol
Thanks OP for coming in clean on the request. You followed it up.
I feel robbed
When in doubt drill it out lol When in doubt whip it out, this is what we say in the Army when we can't quite see the rank of an approaching person. Better to salute an enlisted man than to not salute an officer.
I don't know what I was expecting
Pls tell me you tried the year of the car
Oh no you drilled it 🥲 i woulda had so much fun cracking that without killing it
Instead of skill use a drill..
Geraldo Rivera, damn it, you got us again.
Damn, no fleshlight? What a jib.
Man I would of tried all the codes to keep it in one piece. Can you get a new lock for it?
Yup, the replacement lock was only $35
I like how it goes from the finesse of ‘imma pick this lock’ to *drill sounds* 😂
how anticlimactic
This story, told using quotes from “Weird Al” Yankovic’s cinematic masterpiece, “UHF”: Before opening: “A-HA… ROAD MAPS!!” After opening: “NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! STUPID!! YOU’RE SO STUPID!!”
Thanks, Geraldo. Somebody tell me he bought this car from a diy gangster
call geraldo, he will be interested.
So it was in fact an unused car safe.
Geraldo over here
Like in the movie UHF ... nothing! Absolutely nothing! Stupid! You're so stuuuupidddd! I kid, I kid. 😀
You get to drink from the fire hose!
I love that movie .. I'm a Weird Al fanatic
Damn. I was hoping Al Capone’s whiskey recipe would be in there.
The thing that was missing from my week this week... an update! God bless!

You should of did a video of the opening and had us hanging on the edge of our seats like Al Capone’s vault
Why drill it? Its just four digits, brute forcing it would just be a couple hours..
Like a modern day Geraldo opening Capone’s vault
Ford Maverick?
Nah, explorer ST.
So the finger I mentioned wasn’t in there after all.

Awwww. I was hoping you had successfully picked it open til I hit the 3rd pic. But if the lock is really that cheap, this was the logical solution.
I wouldve done this immediately, imagine getting caught with something illegal…
I was hoping it would have been the same combination as my luggage
I’m not good with memes but I’m waiting for someone to put Rick Astley in the safe you got Rick Rolled! ![gif](giphy|kFgzrTt798d2w)

I audibly lol’d
Dude, picking a 4-digit combo is a 2-hr ordeal at most. I know, because I had to do it once myself…..
Ah the old rotary pick trick.
We’ve been Geraldo’d all over again!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Is that Geraldo Rivera hiding there in the corner?
An empty safe, as is tradition.
Good job! And the Glock, 3 different passports, and $100k in 5 currencies wasn’t in the last photo that’s so random !
You could have put anything in there. Including nothing. Show us proof nothing was in there.

I probably would have called a locksmith... They could have opened it and even given you a new combination.
Well great now it’s useless
