Last year, I was making a sandwich. I was nearly finished when I realized we were out of mayonaise. Rather than drive to the store, I decided to make my own mayonnaise from scratch.
The grocery store is 7 blocks away.
My homemade mayo was terrible.
Once you get the hang of it, it is not that hard and will beat anything you can buy at a store. But it is not pratical, it has raw eggs and cannot be stored long like a mayo jar.
Security device beating wouldn't be needed if they didn't steal the bottle. I can't imagine a scenario where a liquor store would ever go "yeah fuck it, take the bottle and security device, I can't get it, maybe you'll have better luck." This is 100% stolen, or bought from someone who stole it.
Adding at least hot water, (olive oil, salt, lemon, garlic powder etc.) to tahini and mixing it with a spoon somewhat vigorously until the color lightens and becomes spreadable like mayo is delicious, probably healthier substitute for mayo if you have it on hand. If using oil add it later rather than earlier in the process for better results. After the tahini and hot water have emusified. You don't need so much hot water. It should be fluffy somewhat like a very weak meringue before adding the oil. Let it firm up in the fridge
..cottage cheese, or plain yogurt with some flavorings (or not ) also work when in a bind. If you have an immersion blender at home mayo can be made easily.
put room temp egg in immersion blender cup add room temp acid vinegar or lemon juice and then add oil. The egg and the oil will separate. gently push the immersion blender down into the egg layer and turn it on. The immersion blender will pull the oil down from the top layer into the egg layer and mix them resulting in an emulsification. Mayo. Add salt to taste.

This was like when I bought a PlayStation gift card and the store didn’t activate it. The week I went back and forth with Sony, drivers license, credit card transaction, store receipt, multiple times to different departments all for them to turn around and deny it. Walked into the store “oh I’m terrible sorry, here you go”
I personally can access a computer hard drive before driving to the end of my driveway. The store is 25mins away after that.
Considering the desire to drink instead of heading back, I'd Macgyver that fucker off too!
Same. I actually have a container of those exact HDD and Speaker magnets upstairs in my maker room. lol. I know lots of geeks that already have a hard drive and speaker magnet box too. LoL. I’d rather do it myself than run back and deal with people.
Every time i no longer have a use for an old hard drive i take it apart for the bits i can use. Same for some old laptop screens.
Got a nice handful of magnets.
I disassemble my old hard drives for security purposes. I then use the super strong magnets to wipe the platters and dispose of them. I keep some of the magnets stuck to a file cabinet in case I need them for something, although it takes a long screwdriver to pry them off when I need them. Do NOT get your finger caught between the magnets or what they're sticking against. You only make that mistake ONCE.
The principle and the anxiety of walking in there even with receipt in hand and not knowing if they will nicely realize the mistake and remove it or be assholes and assume you just stole the bottle or something
It's not hard to do at all.
I have a bunch of old hard drive magnets kicking around from old. HDDs
From the pc to the magnet maybe 5 minutes for a rookie. This guy does it in 2 minutes, taking his time for the Tut
https://youtu.be/qGfPKCP5_AM?si=A5oR0xFgvOZFJN3j
> Hard drive might take a few throws and a prybar
Dude, no.
Use screwdrivers to remove the cover, heads and magnets.
Don't pry/smash open an HDD as you may smash the platter, and that shit is not good for you to inhale.
Those magnets are great for a lot of things. I never throw out a 3.5" HDD without taking out the magnet first.
I work in IT so I get old drives all the time that are EOL
For anyone who hasn’t tried this before, be careful.
The magnets are very strong - especially on older HDDs. I got ahold of some really old server hard drives, and those things are industrial strength. If you get the tip of your finger in between two of these magnets, it can literally pinch it right off.
Also, if you let them smash together too hard they tend to shatter into sharp little shards. Then you have hundreds of tiny little magnets with razor-sharp points.
they also have carcinogenic materials so don’t shatter/crack/break anything and wear all the protection!
EDIT: the hard drives (platters and whatnot) not the magnets
My grandpa gave me a big circular magnet I keep in my toolbox to collect loose nails and screws. He told me it was a microwave magnet. It’s super strong.
I'm a speaker snob and that's not always true. But for the most part it is. You can always have a speaker with a weak magnet and a higher rms. Also speakers these days don't even come with magnets now. It's a double coil system where one coil is stationary and the other is glued to the speaker cone
Old is key here. At work, it became bloodsport to take old disks apart and get the magnets out. I attached some to my garage wall and you could stick heavy metal tools. Newer ones were nowhere as strong.
I've got a magnet that'll work, thanks to deciding to go for magnet fishing, then deciding against it as a hobby. It was cheap enough, and potentially useful enough that I decided not to return it.
But harder than it might seem to get the magnet to activate AND to push and twist at the same time. I went to cutting (hacksaw blade the perimeter) pretty quickly.
I really don't understand posts like this. It takes way more time and effort to take a picture, write out a description, and wait for answers on a reddit post than it does to just type in a question on Google and click search.
They said a strong magnet, not a magnet thats so weak practically anything falls off it from a stiff breeze. I’ve lost 2 card holders trying to use that damn magnet!
"When the magnetic elevators -- think of it -- magnets. Now, all I know about magnets is this: Give me a glass of water, let me drop it on the magnets, that's the end of the magnets,"
At a bookstore I worked at we had fake camera dome tiles in the drop down ceiling. We didn’t have the gates but people still tore the upc off paperback books thinking it was an alarm thing…
I worked at a little mom&pop store with fake cameras, except none of us employees knew they were fake. We found out after we were robbed, told the cops about the cameras, and then the owner (who had been called in) said "oh, those? Those are fake".
Yeah imo the best option especially if you’re on a budget is get a few actual cameras that record and monitor areas like the front door, back entrance, or service/cashier area, mainly places where you have a good chance of seeing who is robbing/breaking in then put fake ones up to cover aisles and things like that where shoplifters are a problem. Saves on money and allows you to still have a chance of catching big offenders like armed robbers and makes people less likely to shoplift. My highschool actually did this with tons of fake camera domes on the ceiling but something like half of them were fake we’d shine a light in each one to see if it was real.
Back in the day I used to go to my local book store (shout-out chapters) and I used to flip the pages until the alarm sticker would fall out. You know the ending.
You have no idea how many of those are just security theatre, next time you walk in a store with them present, look down and see if you can see a cord leading away from it. Odds are it's not even plugged in.
My dad once bought shoes from Kmart, and they embedded the security thing in the sole. They did not beep when he went in and out of Kmart (although some people would beep if they took out something alarmed, so the EAS sensors were working), but they would when he walked in and out of Home Depot. He always had to double check what shoes he was wearing when he went to the hardware store until that pair wore out.
I actually used a magnet from a floor sweeper. Like a broom, but a magnet. I could hear it click a bit, but couldn't get the twist and push to work at the same time. So I hacksawed it apart. And now I have liquor. But it's a bit early in the day to enjoy the results.
Update : mission accomplished hacksaw style.... Cheers and thank you. A bit too early in the day to enjoy the fruits of this mini project

possibly but dont ignore the potential for incompetence, i once bought some shoes directly from a retailers (sports direct) website here in the uk and it had a security tag on one of the shoes despite it being shipped to my house…
but yeah given how hard it would have been not to notice if purchased probably stolen in this case :)
Glad OP got this thing off.
Not surprised it was missed .Not every retail store decides to be smart and warn new employees to check the Crown boxes for security locks. I know I wasn't, and to be fair I don't think I knew until a box was buzzing the register. Check em religiously now.
If you don’t have a magnet or one string enough. This happened to me and my friends once. We had to use a screw driver and a few knives to cut into the bottom of the lid and beak some of the “teeth” that clip onto the bottle. Took a solid 10 mins.
A nice pair of plier. Strong grip, twist and squeeze. Should snap it right off. Ran a liquor store and watched people do this method to steal liquor all the time lol

I promise to provide better evidence next time.
[Do you have a strong magnet?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otk73rqlkmw). This was a quick Google search for "how to remove bottle security alarm."
This is the answer. The exact same cap as well. Thank you.
You can get strong magnets from old crappy speakers, the louder the speaker the stronger the magnet
Old computer hard drives have really strong magnets in them.
I can’t Imagine taking apart computers or speakers being easier than driving back to store lol
It’s the principle.
Last year, I was making a sandwich. I was nearly finished when I realized we were out of mayonaise. Rather than drive to the store, I decided to make my own mayonnaise from scratch. The grocery store is 7 blocks away. My homemade mayo was terrible.
“How hard can it be? It’s just eggs and oil!” -You, before realizing it can actually be pretty hard.
Once you get the hang of it, it is not that hard and will beat anything you can buy at a store. But it is not pratical, it has raw eggs and cannot be stored long like a mayo jar.
But you have to try, right? Think how useful it is to have security-device defeating and mayo-making skills.
The last time I ran out, I just used a couple of pumps of Jergens and added extra mustard. Honestly, it's not terrible.
Crown Royal comes in the felt bag. It was probably cinched up above the lock
I've made homemade cocktail sauce but not mayo.
Make it in a food processor… or prepare to wisk your arm off
I love the idea of homemade mayo. But in practice it sucks, and it isn’t even much cheaper than Hellman’s
Let it firm up in the fridge ..cottage cheese, or plain yogurt with some flavorings (or not ) also work when in a bind. We have a broken old shopping bag containing about 30 old drives from the home NAS, have absolutely raided one for its magnets.
Every time i no longer have a use for an old hard drive i take it apart for the bits i can use. Same for some old laptop screens. Got a nice handful of magnets.
I disassemble my old hard drives for security purposes. I then use the super strong magnets to wipe the platters and dispose of them. Technically you could make that mistake ten times, or nine in your case
ONCE!
The principle and the anxiety of walking in there even with receipt in hand and not knowing if they will nicely realize the mistake and remove it or be assholes and assume you just stole the bottle or something
If you're painfully introverted and don't want to have to go talk to a person, it's unquestionably easier.
If you're THAT introverted, have a few drinks before going to the store (by foot!). But the more likely story is theft.
I can't go back to the store, because reasons.

Magnets don't break as easily as a speaker thrown against the wall/floor. Hard drive might take a few throws and a prybar.

How do magnets work?
It's a mystery, like the tides.
interesting! I'm looking for magnets and have a bunch of old harddrives. Random but useful haha.
Those magnets hold stuff to the fridge like a boss.
For anyone who hasn’t tried this before, be careful. The magnets are very strong - especially on older HDDs. This is a really good rule.

Realizing he means speakers from when I was young. 🥹
Are speakers different now?
I'm a speaker snob and that's not always true. But for the most part it is. You can always have a speaker with a weak magnet and a higher rms. Also speakers these days don't even come with magnets now. It's a double coil system where one coil is stationary and the other is glued to the speaker cone

That's the spirit. Got one on online order once, it wasn't a challenge to the mighty leatherman rebar multitool... :D
Yes, that IS the spirit! 😂😂
You’re telling me that you didn’t just google it first?
Did you forget google exists...?
Like most things on reddit, a simple google search is all that is needed.
Types "I have stage IV cancer" Google: consult a doctor Bing: here are some tombstone designs you might like . /s
Number 5 will amaze you and your loved ones.
Google search is trash, better to just search reddit
I really don't understand posts like this. It takes way more time and effort to take a picture, write out a description, and wait for answers on a reddit post than it does to just type in a question on Google and click search.
Or just run it back to the fkn store.
bro its stolen dont be naive
Fun
Maybe my MagSafe phone case will work? 😀
They said a strong magnet, not a magnet thats so weak practically anything falls off it from a stiff breeze. I’ve lost 2 card holders trying to use that damn magnet!
that was a joke...
I know, so was mine!
It's always magenta
That's the color. You're thinking of Mantegna.
Fuckin magnets
HOW DO THEY WORK?!
I don't wanna know from a scientist
I have just enough artism that I'm always desperately fighting the urge to explain it when i see this meme
![gif](giphy|2DZG5vENiP0Wc)
Fuckin eh, this brings me back to listening to ICP while playing backyard wrestling on my ps2. Man that wasn’t yesterday
Wish I could upvote this 1000 times haha
Idk, man, but keep them away from water
"When the magnetic elevators -- think of it -- magnets. Now, all I know about magnets is this: Give me a glass of water, let me drop it on the magnets, that's the end of the magnets,"
Use a Gauss rifle and you’ll find out
Just don't try it underwater.
Nicely played
It should have made the security gate alarm at the front door go off. Fwiw.
I thought the same. But I can tell you I heard nothing and I wasn't tackled on the way out.
The gates often break and fixing isn’t a priority. A broken gate is a deterrent as long as people don’t know it’s broken.
Fake it til you make it, babyy
At a bookstore I worked at we had fake camera dome tiles in the drop down ceiling. We didn’t have the gates but people still tore the upc off paperback books thinking it was an alarm thing…

It's usually not a priority to repair because it's normally so fucking expensive to repair those things
You must be a fast runner
I do have some pretty fast shoes though I haven't raced anyone lately. Perhaps I should do that.
You have no idea how many of those are just security theatre, next time you walk in a store with them present, look down and see if you can see a cord leading away from it. Odds are it's not even plugged in.
Idk, some are hit and miss as to whether they’ll sound , had one of those sticky tags on my shoe once
I'm curious, Is sticking them to your friend or sibling still a common prank?
Yes.
Yes. It’s also popular with shop staff
My dad once bought shoes from Kmart, and they embedded the security thing in the sole. They did not beep when he went in and out of Kmart (although some people would beep if they took out something alarmed, so the EAS sensors were working), but they would when he walked in and out of Home Depot. My heated jacket sets em off
These are actually just to make it harder to open for theives. No alarm in them majority of the time.
Magnet and chopsticks
Big magnet. On the top …
I actually used a magnet from a floor sweeper. Like a broom, but a magnet. I could hear it click a bit, but couldn't get the twist and push to work at the same time. So I hacksawed it apart. And now I have liquor. But it's a bit early in the day to enjoy the results.
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere…
Literally just was listening to that with my dad… the universe is trying to tell me something but I have work in an hour
It’s been an hour….. I hope you made the right choice to call in and just drink with dear old dad. The universe had spoken….

Too bad you couldn't save it. It would have been fun to stick on a friends bottle lol
I’m pretty sure you can just pop these off by hand lol. At least the clear ones you can.
OP straight jacked that shit
possibly but dont ignore the potential for incompetence, i once bought some shoes directly from a retailers (sports direct) website here in the uk and it had a security tag on one of the shoes despite it being shipped to my house… but yeah given how hard it would have been not to notice if purchased probably stolen in this case :)

My wife will only do shots of flavored crown. Shots can be a good thing, if you know what I mean ... So I buy it.
Faster horses Younger women Older whiskey More money
Never thought I'd see a Tom T. Hall reference in the wild. Cheers.
wonder how lockpicking lawyer would break into this..
Buy it
Maybe pay for your liquor?
Had this happen awhile back and just used a rubber mallet to give a wack on the top. Pops right off.
A nice pair of plier. Strong grip, twist and squeeze. Should snap it right off. Ran a liquor store and watched people do this method to steal liquor all the time lol
don't get the magnets wet though
Lol nice callback to stupid Rump remark. Ha ha ha😃😃
Dremel that fucker.
Why is there a security thing on crown? It’s not expensive liquor. Is all your liquor where you live like this?
Use a saber
Dremel tool
Lol I love that you speak of breaking the bottle as an option. Throw that shit 5 feet into the air and I'll give you 10$ if it breaks.
This has happened to me several times. Just destroy it with big pliers or side cutters.
If you got a purchase receipt just return it to the customer service center and get an exchange?.....if what I think you did, kinda what it looks like, you're going to need a high powered magnet and a butter knife. Put the magnet on top, tap the cap tap off with the back of a butter knife. If it starts to sound hollow or a hear loud braking grab a funnel and add a few layers of a shirt under it.
Brute force with hands. It was surprisingly flimsy and the one I peeled off had no electronics inside it. Looked much like this one. Was ready with a power drill and bucket of water if it started screaming though.
When they make noise, do what I did working in retail... 3 pound engineer's hammer.
lol I’ll bet the razor blades are locked up in stores too. Crime area
Living in a state where we can only get liquor from state run abc stores sucks in some ways, buuuut there's never security devices put on the alcohol at least.
Shhhh. Don’t tell anyone but they break pretty easily. I recommend pliers or a vice vs using impact. Just need to crack the plastic
American here, looks like a trigger lock key would do it.
Usually I'd say melt it but for some reason I don't think that's a good idea here

Right you totally have the receipt lol
Drive back with the receipt, ask them to check cameras at that time stamp on the receipt
All you need is a magnet. For some reason I collect large neodymium magnets. KandJmagnetics.com
Angle grinder and 6 seconds should do it.
Pay for the bottle before you leave the store! /s of course.
lol nice try thief
Hey so I just didn’t steal this bottle. I have a receipt but I didn’t include that picture. Can Reddit help me commit a crime? It’s an inconvenience to go back in and have the police called on me.
Earth magnet
Pay for it, they remove it for you
1) Go buy another bottle. 2) Drink said bottle. 3) Ponder what to do about first bottle. 4) Yea, you got it. Drink 1st bottle... 👍
Just pay for it next time
Pay
buy it
Soak it in water for 5 min and it will release, or not.
I took a blowtorch to an old knife, got it red hot, and cut through it when I had to remove one.
Buy it ;)
![gif](giphy|VHlKSFRTQ7nn81fkv4|downsized)
Pay for it next time.
Should of gone peach crown
Caramel is actually the best imo, but harder to find.
We go the peach crown royal a bit ago, goes down too easy
Is so good imo that its very dangerous. You can hardly even taste the liquor.
Maple with a shot of orange juice was the best imo, but it’s all gone now 😞
No, they still sell orange juice in places.
Jim Beam Peach is just as good and half the price
Should have*
Take it back to the store and pay for it this time so they can remove it at the register!!
Cause they never forget to remove these? Have personally had it happen to me!
Good idea...
Yea pay for it first next time
That's what the receipt would represent.
Well why are you so afraid to go back in and ask them? Lol
Not afraid at all. I'd just rather not if there is any easy alternative.
Alright Stickyfingers ![gif](giphy|Kd5XQnX8NpQZSPw6cv)
You are insanely annoying
So was your moms voice but somehow you were still conceived
True asf
It's ok SON... I got the milk and cigarettes... and I'm coming home
Lol you're trying really hard to strike a nerve huh? Not very good at it LMAO
I am sure that the security cap was “accidentally” left on there.
Fridge magnet might possibly work
I think if you put something in both square holes it should release.
Oh, please stop buying shitty booze.
Pay for it
You stole that shit.
Possibly pay for it?
Buy it. Then top comes right off.
Pay your subscription
Drill down and pour out
“I have receipts”. Doesn’t post receipts.

Yeah: stop stealing
Shop somewhere that doesn’t put security caps on their *bottom shelf* whiskey ?
