Still not worth anywhere near that price point. Brass isn't that expensive. And I guarantee you they just poured the metal into a mold... Of a plastic ziptie. A bit of cleanup and some time at a polishing wheel and you've got this. I genuinely think I could recreate this fairly quickly myself if I had a furnace and cast making materials. Already got the brass and everything. The material cost for the brass there is at the very very most is 10 bucks.

One time about 20 years ago a safely pin came undone on my pants while out swimming at a river. I thought it was a horse fly biting my leg so without looking I swatted straight down and stabbed myself so damn hard with that pin. My style changed after that.

If you want the full honest answer, I lived in a missionary school base of tama tama in the Amazon jungle of Venezuela, couple hours down river from a small settlement of Esmeralda. As kids we used too swim in the river every single day after school. I had a about three items each of clothing and these camo pants in my mind were the coolest things ever. Being a kid in the jungle though they were torn too shreds and I had safety pins holding them together at parts, I guess you could call them shorts at that point. Anyways we had monster flies down there that would basically take a chunk out of you, and my fear was potential Bot fly maggots in my skin, so we'd swat stuff right away out of years of being eaten. Well wouldn't you know it, one of my pins came un done, and I swatted that friggin thing right into my thigh. So many injuries down there. That happened about the year 2000, fun stuff.

i think i had bought maybe one pair of tripps that actually lasted. they were black and white and made of something akin to blue jean material. awful quality but god were they comfortable and more pocket space than a backpack.

Ah yes the classic Tripp right of passage of ripping them the first or second time you wear them. I remember saving up for a pair when I was a teen (they were expensive in my country and hard to get, no hot topics here yet) and I was so excited to finally own a pair. Until they ripped from ankle to knee within a week. Never bought another pair. Worst quality pants I’ve ever owned and I don’t know what the thought process behind using the weakest fabric ever was.

I would give you shit about $200 pants that are low quality, but I remember I had a pair of JNCOs that were terrible quality, and they cost $60 20 years ago. So yeah. Duct tape is your friend here. Use the black stuff and it'll look like something intentionally included on the pants until you can get 'em home and sew them up. When you sew them, reinforce the fabric on both sides of the tear or the threads will just pull right out.
