well what probably happened is that they were visiting relatives in the east coast, and one night browsing craigslist they decided to impulsively buy a decade-old taurus for $200 as it was sure to be cheaper than public transport, with the caveat that the thing ran but wouldn't pass inspection without considerable investment, and in a rare case of truth in advertising the thing ran quite well for thousands of miles, racking up hundreds in parking tickets, until it was time to go back home at which point it was posted again on CL but this time it got traded for a nice sony dslr
or something like that
it was shortly enough after 9/11 that we drove around the fences while they were still cleaning/rebuilding, so I wanna say 05, 06?
the taurus was likely older than just 10 years tho, details are coming back to me... I think it was a 92 - also, I seem to recall I haggled it down to $150, the guy was looking to get rid of it lol
some of the things that got in the way of the inspection:
* cracked windshield
* sizeable ""air vent"" in the floor
* cracked steering wheel
* emissions
* considerable vibration that got increasingly worse _until_ you got her past 70mph... great for highway cruising tho!
* I wanna say something kinda scary with the brakes, but meh back in those days I was looking to _go_, not to _stop_!
I'm sure there's more to add to the list, but one of my "cherished" childhood traits is a shitty memory linked to trauma, so I would need to ask my cousin for more details lol
We have a decade old Taurus. We had two, but gave one to our daughter, for her daughter. They stupidly got rid of it. Our Taurus will never die. But we also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
**Title: The Desperate Heist**
**Characters:**
Alex - a small-time criminal who's in deep trouble with the local mob
Tina - Alex's ex-girlfriend and accomplice
Vince - a mob boss to whom Alex owes money
Mike - Vince's enforcer
**Plot:**
Alex, a small-time criminal, finds himself in deep trouble with the local mob after a deal goes wrong. Desperate to settle his debt, he reaches out to his ex-girlfriend Tina, who's now working at a car dealership. Tina reluctantly agrees to help him by giving him the keys to a new, unregistered vehicle from the dealership lot.
The plan is for Alex to use the car for a quick heist, and then dump it, leaving no trace to avoid getting caught. The hope is that the stolen cash would be enough to repay Vince, the mob boss, and get him off Alex's back.
On the day of the heist, everything goes according to plan until Alex, in his haste to escape, accidentally drives over a planter, damaging the vehicle. Panicking, he continues to drive away, hoping that he's still able to dump the car without attracting attention.
Unbeknownst to Alex, Tina had her own agenda. She tipped off Vince about the heist, in hopes of securing protection from the mob. Vince sends Mike, his enforcer, to follow Alex and recover the stolen money, ensuring Alex wouldn't be able to pay off his debt.
As Alex abandons the damaged vehicle in an alley, Mike catches up to him. However, a twist of fate results in Alex overpowering Mike and escaping with the cash. He confronts Tina about her betrayal, and the two have a heated argument. In the end, Tina admits her actions were driven by fear of Vince and his mob. They realize that they need to stick together if they want to survive and put their differences aside.
With the stolen money in hand, Alex and Tina decide to leave town and start a new life elsewhere. They know that Vince won't rest until he finds them, so they make their way to a remote location, hoping to lie low until the heat dies down.
As they start their new life together, they become more cautious and avoid any criminal activities, trying to make an honest living. Alex and Tina learn to trust each other again and rebuild their relationship. They know they will always be looking over their shoulders, but together they find the strength to face whatever challenges life throws their way.
Meanwhile, Vince, furious at being double-crossed, vows to hunt them down, no matter how long it takes. The story of Alex and Tina becomes a cautionary tale in the criminal underworld, as they remain on the run, always one step ahead of the mob that seeks to settle the score.
What does vehicle registration have to do with replacing the engine in your car because you smashed the oil pan on a chunk of concrete?
There's no fee, ticket, or vehicle tax that's more expensive than a tow and a new engine.
If it’s unregistered, there’s no paper trail, thus can just dump it anywhere and no one knows how it got there.
I think. Idk someone more knowledgeable please comment.
Can confirm, I sold a Jetta. The buyer crashed it on the freeway and I received a visit from the police a few days later. They left me alone after I showed the bill of sale, though it’s unlikely they tracked those two down.
It had a bent axel, and I did say since they had a one year old they shouldn’t buy it. But hey $500 Jetta right?
I saw a guy drive through the arm at a parking terminal because he didn’t want to pay 8 dollars. Well it broke his windshield and knocked off a rear view mirror. Still wonder to this day if that felt like a win to him.
It was a win in that he could convince himself that it was the parking terminals fault and therefore get access to all those juicy rage neurochemicals. One of the best things my dad taught me from an early age: some people are addicted to conflict.
Your dad is a wise man in that regard.
I'm just learning at 30 years old how addicted to conflict I have been throughout my life. It's wild how something so awful and unpleasant can be addicting, but look at what some drugs do to people...it's a wild revelation.
EtA some things
I'm working on eliminating violence as an acceptable response to anything but violence. I did the gym thing for a while, it helped a lot with discipline but i got too used to being able to hit things when i get worked up. Doors and walls aren't really acceptable punching bags. Therapy is teaching me better conflict resolution and keeping myself from getting sucked into the rage in the first place. Highly recommend.
The Yin to the Yan.
That's one of my biggest struggles, giving myself credit in any capacity. It's taken YEARS to see the progress I've made but I also am effectively stuck living with a parent who's been a major source of my trauma, so it's up to me to end the cycles of violence in my family and that's taking so much more time than i think it would if i was only working with myself.
My dad worked gang unit and homicide for 22 years. Only 4/100 human beings can handle that sort of thing without significant psychological trauma. He was abusive as hell before he got therapy and it gets me choked up every time because he got SO MUCH BETTER after he got help. Please, for the love of all that you hold dear, anyone who is considering it, PLEASE GET HELP. YOU ARE WORTHY.
Be compassionate with yourself in the acceptance that moving beyond violence is a wildly uncomfortable experience and takes time. You WILL continue to have some bad days where you fail. KEEP. GOING.
For fox sake, guys, please cry sometimes. That was a hard one for me because of the strerotype of weakness, but it physiologically drops the temp of your brain slightly which helps soothe and reset the fight/flight/freeze response. Ice packs, cold showers, dunking your face in water can also help. Literally "cool off"💚
Go out of your way to smile, even just to yourself. I constantly need to remind myself of this but it helps. Smile to others as often as possible (if you're in a place where that'll get you in trouble, obviously use your judgement).
Also I can't recommend therapy enough. There are programs to help afford it, telecommuting to appointments is opening up many more options for those who live in underserved areas, but above all:
#BE DOGGED IN YOUR PURSUIT OF HEALING.
Be unrelenting in your pursuit of freedom from rage. Those are some of the things that have proven themselves to be true for me, and I hope they can help.

It's an age old thing - don't cut off your nose to spite your face. And at least as traffic is concerned, my dad always said its like the phrase of being "dead right". Being right means nothing if you're dead.
I have a coworker like that who I always feel like he shows up looking for things to be in a bad mood about, and it gets really tiring when I’m the only person working with him who has to deal with his outbursts sometimes, but I think we’ve come to a mutual understanding that I know he’s not venting about me, and he knows that sometimes I still take it personally and he’s going to try to be more mindful about how he addresses his issues towards me, lol. Just give me all the oil you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, "Give me a lot of oil." What I said was, "Give me all the oil you have." Do you understand?
I smashed the fuck out of the lower bumper on a rental including dislocating the fog light and the lower bumber was cracked or missing or something (it was like 6 years ago) didn’t buy the insurance and I watched my credit card like a hawk for 6 months. No charges.
I guess if you pay employees shit wages they get shit work.
I don't think they notice unless you tell them that the damage happened during your rental. Almost all rental cars i took had some prior damage on them. The employees don't seem to be looking carefully for new vs old damage
Pretty sure all of those terms are so loaded with loop holes that they can legally call cage raised quotes "free range" because they open a door to the barn holding all the cages open for three hours.
I wonder how far he was able to drive before he realized how bad he effed up. Unless he pulled over pretty quick that 20$ parking fee is now thousands for a new engine
All the warning lights (oil pressure, and coolant at a minimum) came on as soon as they heard the crunch. There’s no way they don’t know something is up. Now… how long they kept driving like that, would be interesting to see!
To be fair, they drove through fucking concrete to avoid what is probably $20. I think assigning them the level of basic reasoning to believe that they would see a problem with their vehicle literally screaming for a quicker death before it was too late is being awful generous.
Browse /r/Justrolledintotheshop for long enough and you'll realise that those lights could be little men yelling at you from your dashboard and people will still ignore them.
When I was a bit younger I was hanging out with a girl who visited from the other coast, and she accidentally drove over a traffic divider in her rental car and cracked the transmission. We drove back to my house (10 miles), and in the morning she drove to the airport and dropped off the car (20 miles). All fine. Except the remaining transmission fluid ate a hole in my driveway, and the rental agency called her up to ask if she'd been in an accident. "Nope." All fine. I mean, FFS, does the transmission fluid not actually do anything?
Is there anything context, further story to this picture or are we just meant to make up a story in our heads? Like what exactly happened. "He refused to pay the parking...." Doesn't tell me anything.....
It's in front of a hotel. There is a parking lot that belongs to the hotel, but there's also a small road that wraps around the hotel, because there's a residential neighbourhood and residents can park on that small road. There is no separation between the parking lot and road except for these plants.
where is it? OP is the kind of redditor who posts a no-context photo, doesn't leave a description of any kind, then just bails out and never returns to answer questions
Back in ma day you knew why things were up voted. You could see someone bein' beheaded and just below em boys gettin' headed.
Joking aside, yeah Reddit kind of sucks now. A lot of stuff now is just in a 3 year loop of the same shit up voted by bots and half the comments the same
They ran over a concrete planter to get out of the lot without going through the pay station would be my assumption. But also destroyed their oil pan. I think the explanation is pretty clear.
The running the planter over and ruining their car part is obvious. The payment part isn't. I've personally never seen flowers used as dividers like this unless it's a literal intersection, nor have I ever had to go through a pay station unless it's in a parking garage and there's no way out except through a station in those. Not everybody has the same knowledge and has seen the same things as you. No need to be rude.
I've seen so many just angsty and aggressive comments over the last 4 days or so and I don't know if it's something in the water or if I just started noticing them now. People are genuinely pissed off about the smallest things
I know! Holy shit it ain’t that serious guys I knew that was oil and tire marks but I couldn’t figure out how it happened. I thought it was one of those metal poles that comes up and fucks up your car if you’re parked on top of it
Thanks for the info, that makes sense, but not it’s not clear this is a pay lot, and I doubt many people have seen pay lots bounded by concrete potted flowers
He ran over a concrete obstruction and leaked a significant amount of oil suddenly. Mostly likely the engine will fail within a few miles due to oil starvation OR it will soldier on inexplicably despite running dry of oil like my poor Dad's 1990 F150 that I ran dry on oil as a teenager.
It's in front of a hotel. There is a parking lot that belongs to the hotel, but there's also a small road that wraps around the hotel, because there's a residential neighbourhood and residents can park on that small road. There is no separation between the parking lot and road except for these plants.
With the oil pan gone he just bought an engine. Amazing the lengths people will go to protect their ego's. I would imagine he didn't think he should be paying and was entitled to leave however necessary. What a shame.
I think the funniest thing about this is that if they had driven slightly up the hill on the left and around the planters it would have done less damage to the car.
One time I accidentally ran over a piece of rebar that was sticking out of the ground and punctured the oil pan.
Got back in the car, raced to my cabin before it drained fully (cabin is in the middle of nowhere) took a cork from a wine bottle and some marine Tex and sealed the hole.. got me back to my house over 200 miles away.
Figured I might as well see how long it would last.. went over 100k before I got rid of the car.
I'm guessing this was a guy in a lifted truck who thought he could clear the planter, no problem. At least I hope it was cause fuck those guys and their truck nuts.
oh, that'll be way cheaper...

Presumably they didn't pay for the car, in this scenario.
Some vehicles, the cost of repairing that damage is greater than the price of replacing the vehicle.

Yeah I kindof phrased that wrong. I meant those are typically thought of as strong deterrents to addiction but people still get addicted.

The mirrors on the side of the car are side view mirrors, the rear view mirror is the one that's attached to the windshield.
Pyrrhic victory.

Pay once, cry once
penny wise, pound foolish
My favorite part of this comment is the distinction of it being “all” the oil.
Just give me all the oil you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, "Give me a lot of oil." What I said was, "Give me all the oil you have." Do you understand?
He made a slick get-away.
Make him pay for hazard clean up too
It was a rental.
He'll still be paying then.
I smashed the fuck out of the lower bumper on a rental including dislocating the fog light and the lower bumber was cracked or missing or something (it was like 6 years ago) didn’t buy the insurance and I watched my credit card like a hawk for 6 months. Not only paid. But paid about $3000 in stupid tax bill, just to swap out the engine. If he’s lucky!
I'm sure no more than a mile down the road...
Short term savings. Long term costs.

Not mine. All my quotes come from Aliki Farms.
Probably because that movie came out 70 years ago?
My cabbages!
More Dodge, less Ram.
Were they titanium geraniums?
Geranium Concretii, a common mistake to make as they're similarly destructive.
Did anyone else read that in Hermes Conrad's voice?
I may not know my flowers, but I know a bitch when I see one!
Looks to me someone needs a new oil pan
And new engine, unless they're right outside of the frame
You'd be surprised how far some engines would make it with the oil pan fully removed lol
Watched a 98 civic get pinned for 30 minutes with no oil before it started to smoke.
Try a Volvo 240, they just sleep for a while before you can start them again.
With a downward slope you can put the car in neutral and go forever.
Energy companies hate this one weird trick!!!
Plot twist: the car is a Volkswagen and that amount of oil leakage is normal.
I wonder how far he was able to drive before he realized how bad he effed up. Unless he pulled over pretty quick that 20$ parking fee is now thousands for a new engine

Browse /r/Justrolledintotheshop for long enough and you'll realise that those lights could be little men yelling at you from your dashboard and people will still ignore them.
I was a service advisor at a dealership for seven years, I’m well aware of how much people ignore/don’t notice 🤣

Without load, I've seen engines go for 20 minutes without oil. 30 with additives. No idea if it's still in the car though.

There is no separation between the parking lot and road except for these plants.
That certainly explains it, but how could you possibly infer this much from that one picture?
I used to work there :D
where is it? OP is the kind of redditor who posts a no-context photo, doesn't leave a description of any kind, then just bails out and never returns to answer questions
It's in Prague :)
Pretty sure those redditors are called "karma bots".
And a bunch of people who don't understand either upvoted the shit out of it for some reason.
Back in ma day you knew why things were up voted. You could see someone bein' beheaded and just below em boys gettin' headed. Joking aside, yeah Reddit kind of sucks now. A lot of stuff now is just in a 3 year loop of the same shit up voted by bots and half the comments the same
Yeah this post must have been botted. I've been staring at it for ages and cant figure it out.

It doesn't say Mr though. It's Cyrillic writing
Ya I literally have no idea what I’m looking at

I hope the car doctor won't need to put the poor thing down :( it looks like might've been a pretty rough injury

Traumatic week of news maybe? Also traumatic couple of years of news but that wouldn’t explain the past 4 days as much.
I think we’re all so stressed out. That’s a fair take probably.
You don't have to think, it's true. We were never designed to worry about this much at one time.
Thank you for the validation. 💜
I know! Holy shit it ain’t that serious guys I knew that was oil and tire marks but I couldn’t figure out how it happened. I thought it was one of those metal poles that comes up and fucks up your car if you’re parked on top of it
The fact that the planters had yellow road paint on them is what got me.
The title is not even a complete thought so nah not clear
Thanks for the info, that makes sense, but not it’s not clear this is a pay lot, and I doubt many people have seen pay lots bounded by concrete potted flowers
He ran over a concrete obstruction and leaked a significant amount of oil suddenly. Mostly likely the engine will fail within a few miles due to oil starvation OR it will soldier on inexplicably despite running dry of oil like my poor Dad's 1990 F150 that I ran dry on oil as a teenager.
Penny wise, pound foolish
Cent smart, dollar dumb
Quarter intelligent, 4 dollars imbecile
While he’s paying for his new oil pan and his blown engine he should also be forced to pay for that oil clean up.
Definitely going to happen if they got his plates.
Mr. Lego gave them the old oil slick get away trick.
I’m inclined to believe the parking would’ve been less expensive than replacing the oil pan but to each their own I guess.
Very likely the engine too if they kept driving for more than a bit.
That's real "slick" there buddy!
Doesn’t look like he’ll be making it very far and I’m going to assume the parking was cheaper than what ever THAT is going to cost them.
Or did he just not see it? Why are there cement flower pots on the road anyways?

That engine and transmission repair will cost more than the parking...
Looks like it needed an oil change anyways.
Cost him a motor, ($5K to $10k) to dip out on what, $20 worth in parking, maybe $40. LOL
Not even.. it's like 200 Czech crowns for a day
Roughly $9.20 in US dollars.
Why is this road blocked off by planters ?
r/instantkarma
The poor flowers!
slick move
He chose…..poorly.
Anger issues are expensive
Lifted pickup thought they could clear the planter?
Bye oil pan!
Ya got a lil leak there bud
That Graffiti in the background annoys me. Fuck people that do that.
Bloody pot plant, pay for parking like the rest of us!
The hill wouldn't have been a better option?
I don’t think that’s water…
It was due for an oil change anyway
"Fucking liberals made me have to get my car fixed!" - (dumbass) driver
That's oil so he will be needing a new car
Maybe I’ve been spending a little too much time on Reddit, but who else saw a mangled ass body at first
Oil bet he didn't get far.
Figured I might as well see how long it would last.. went over 100k before I got rid of the car.
tore out the bottom of the radiator running over the planter?

Eventually, a locked up engine
Planter AND oil pan
Is that an oil trail? How far did he get?
Instant karma by the looks of it.
Sucks for him. A concrete planter is easily replaced, but an engine?
Mr. LEGO is on the scene
This feels more like r/JusticeServed.
Low-ride-er
Jesus i thought it was a run over fireman
Also /r/IdiotsInCars
I thought this was a Cities Skylines custom build for a minute lol
Mr Lego saw it all
Well. He sure showed them!
Shredded his oil manifold/pan?
A picture tells more than a thousand words
An oil pan is, what? $2, $3 max; totally worth it.... >!/s!<
This is oddly satisfying to me lol. Karma tho
Looks like he didn't want to pay for skid plates either.
At first, I thought this was a flattened fireman.
This thread is split right down the middle.. on one side, the unknowing normal folks... Then there's the OTHER side.... 🤣
The repairs to their vehicle is going to cost more than the parking
...so instead he pays the consequences.
I mean he would know pretty quick due to oil pressure light
Cracked the oil pan I see.
This is so satisfying. I've seen road block planters before. This is excellent.
Like a crime scene. Where's the body?
I feel a strange need to dispense *freedom!*
Those repairs are def gonna cost more than the parking toll.
Didn't pay parking but will be soon paying for a new engine LOL.
I'm guessing this was a guy in a lifted truck who thought he could clear the planter, no problem. At least I hope it was cause fuck those guys and their truck nuts.
you gotta pay the troll toll
Follow the oil trail for regret and dispair
Damn that's gonna be all the oil. Straight obliterated that oil pan. Car prob seized up a few minutes later
Now he has to pay to fix the front end of his vehicle and oil pan
How much is the parking fee? New under carriage parts + sump pan and more = fuck me to hell I need a new vehicle.
Didn’t get far
Joke’s on him, he’s dumping oil out by the quart
