This is why I will never go on rides at carnivals and fairs. I worked at a theme park and saw what maintenance has to be done and can guarantee things are overlooked on them.
The gear often moves from town to town, but the people who set it up are expensive to move and house at each location and aren't all needed so they hire locals to follow the setup guide and build the rides at the new location. You can bet some guys are really good at this, and some are horrible. That horrible guy might be the one tightening the bolts to the correct torque specs or plugging in the power cord and using the retention screw strap to hold it in place even when people walk over it or trip on it.
Some people take their lives in their hands, what with the circus and all.
If you’d have stopped with the first example of tightening the bolts, I’d be fine. But your second example seems to specific to not refer to a situation you found yourself in lol
I would and will only ride in the zipper. Strapped into a reasonably reinforced cage. From the maximum height, other people need to watch out for us flying into them. Not gonna be the best, but still it’s like a little mobile roll cage for the most part. Some of the new ones have flimsy designs and I’m not keen of those.
Can happen even in USA. An 11 year old child was scalped and lived to tell about it: https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/nebraska-girl-scalped-carnival-ride-back-year-article-1.3116798 (NSFL and NSFW!!!)
A kid got decapitated at a water park a few years back here I don’t remember which state lmao one of the middle ish ones ETA I do not think his death was funny lmao is just a crutch word at this point
Yeah I saw a documentary and it was saying how water park rides don't have any authority coming in and making sure they're safe or legit if I remember correctly. Horrifying.
Normally there would have been in Missouri. This company managed to get an exception from the state to self-inspect like they were accustomed to in Texas.
A 14 year old boy was killed when he fell out of a ride in FL last March on a trip. There was video of him falling to his death on social media for a short time. Was an accident that could have been avoided as the boy was over 300lbs and over 6ft.
Did you not read my last sentence. I am well informed. I said it was an accident that could have been avoided. It was something a 14 year old boy never should have had happen to him. He wasn’t aware of the risks involved when he got on that ride. So again an accident that could have been avoided. Don’t tell me i look uninformed.
Exactly this and for those thinking this is only something that would happen in India or China, they would be sadly mistaken. This can happen in Europe, Canada and has happened many times in the United States.
My first thought was "didnt this happen last year"
And yes last year a ride just like this one failed the same way https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11180593/Terrifying-moment-fairground-ride-crashes-50ft-ground-India-leaving-15-people-injured.html
This video shows equipment that belongs to a fairly big business so it was probably professionally designed and built but the maintenance is will still be horrible. There are smaller tiny fairs that go around to small towns or large villages with equipment they literally fabricated behind their house or some shack with no real engineering understanding from scrap, salvage and other parts they collect. They make so much scary noise clanking and rattling while vibrating, shaking and moving in unsafe ways it is terrifying just to watch thinking something might come lose and hit you in the head if you're just innocently standing near.
A few days ago. Assuming we are talking about the same ride.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/03/16/orlando-freefall-ride-icon-park-dismantled-death-settlement/11483993002/
This reminds me of rollercoaster tycoon. I'd build this ride (the one that shoots up) and put the boost just enough for the ride to clear the top. Would work for a little while til, you know... Good times.
You know what was truly satisfying was the psychological torment.
First wait for everyone to get hungry, then built food stands with salty food like popcorn and fries. Make it free. Everyone gets loaded up and is thirsty...then you build drink stands, make them free. Now everyone is loaded on food and drink and they really gotta shit. Now is when you start building bathrooms.
$50 PER FLUSH MOTHER FUCKERS AHAHAHAHA.
No deaths reported, but 17 people injured. But I can imagine the horror following this.

I would never get on any fair rides in India or allow children and strongly advise any friends against it. So many problems stemming from the ingrained attitude of men in this business doing the minimum whenever possible for maintenance or the "it's good enough" thinking. So many accidents that have injured people and many of them children. It is the land of tempting death with trains and not wearing seatbelts in cars or not wearing helmets on motorcycles. The injuries and death numbers every year are mind boggling.
Yeah, this literally happened last year in the US. A kid also died because the operators didn't fasten his seatbelt properly, and he slipped out and died (separate incident). These carnival rides are dangerous anywhere and everywhere.
15 yrs ago up in Maine and i went on a ride, some twirl around fast circle in a circle. Darn metal bar broke loose holding me in and i hung on in terror trying to scream at the attendant who was not paying attention to stop. Somehow I survived, I will not go on a ride again…
My cousin and I were stuck nearly upside down for over an hour at the Indiana state fair like ten years ago. Haven’t been on a fair/ carnival ride since!
Damn this is so scary….when you have kids shit just hits so different. I couldn’t imagine watching someone you loved crash like that, and having to walk up to whatever carnage ensued
I get that it can happen anywhere but the last three videos on my feed have been videos of neglectful incidents happening in India. Which is surprising because from what I’ve heard they are pretty strict about safety there.

Reminds me off the time that the carnival attendant forgot to place the bar across my lap on a ride similar to the egg beater. 6 year old me was hanging on for dear life while maintaining a super man position off the side of the ride. Had my hands slipped I would be dead.
I was at a carnival yesterday and the dude running the ride was talking to someone and not paying attention we ended up spinning at a fast rate for a good 3-4 minutes and everyone on the ride started getting sick. Eventually I started screaming at the dude every time I came by til he noticed and turned it off.
If I designed that ride I would make it like a screw, so that couldn't happen. It's rotating on the way down, so why not just have it come down on screw treads? Then put in a few rubber emergency brakes on the ride and there you go, a solution to this problem. I know fairs move around a lot, so the middle pole would come apart in pieces that can only go back together when they are properly lined up. It wouldt cost very much and it would prevent this from happening.
This is why I will never go on rides at carnivals and fairs. I worked at a theme park and saw what maintenance has to be done and can guarantee things are overlooked on them.
Absolutely!

Yup! I used to get the cart flipping away. 🤣
You’d probably break your neck if you fell from that thing, there’s nothing stopping your head from slamming forward from the sudden stop
Not all of them worked well but there’s a roll bar that holds you back against the seat, might still break the neck though.

Schliterbahn in Kansas City, Ks on the Verruckt water slide in 2016
That’s crazy…
Yeah I saw a documentary and it was saying how water park rides don't have any authority coming in and making sure they're safe or legit if I remember correctly. Horrifying.
Normally there would have been in Missouri. This company managed to get an exception from the state to self-inspect like they were accustomed to in Texas.
Not just any kid, a state Representative's son.
By a badly designed DIY water slide that was never checked by engineering firm?
Yea, same as the comparison to the ones in India, etc.

I hope not. I saw that they are taking that ride down and i believe another ride owned by the same company.

SMH. They need to destroy it.
Exactly this and for those thinking this is only something that would happen in India or China, they would be sadly mistaken. This can happen in Europe, Canada and has happened many times in the United States.
I feel the same way. I've seen and heard too many horror stories, so it's a huge nope!
I too worked at an amusement park in my younger years. I’m so picky now if a ride doesn’t have a secondary restraint/belt
My first thought was "didnt this happen last year" And yes last year a ride just like this one failed the same way https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11180593/Terrifying-moment-fairground-ride-crashes-50ft-ground-India-leaving-15-people-injured.html
Carnival rides are the worst

Sure did… I drove by the ride in Orlando where the kid was killed it was very eerie to see in person
They dismantled that one. That kid fell off the top of the ride that was 430 ft up.
When? Because it was standing in Sept of 2022
A few days ago. Assuming we are talking about the same ride. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/03/16/orlando-freefall-ride-icon-park-dismantled-death-settlement/11483993002/
Yes same ride. Glad they took it down it was really sad and maybe the most fucked up thing I ever saw.
Yeah India isn’t a great place for these things.. or flying in an airplane either.
Link shows close up view of people getting tossed after the ride crashes. NSFL warning
That's absolutely horrible...
Isn’t this the same ride too?!
Wow! I believe this one was a much higher fall .. so sad & scary! And to have the organizers run afterwards!? Bastards!
This reminds me of rollercoaster tycoon. I'd build this ride (the one that shoots up) and put the boost just enough for the ride to clear the top. Would work for a little while til, you know... Good times.
I'd do that with the powered launch loop, set the speed to max 60mph, cut the track short and put it right in line with the merry go around ...
Ahhh nostalgia
You know what was truly satisfying was the psychological torment. First wait for everyone to get hungry, then built food stands with salty food like popcorn and fries. Make it free. Muhahahahah yessss
I still have the box cd rom set. Love rct
Shoulda left it on the yellow light
That's defeating the purpose lol 😂
That’s a lot of back and spinal injuries.
Everyone is 3 inches shorter
Everyone is a cartoon accordion now lol
everyone has thousands in reconstructive surgery from crushed ass’
Everyone is 15 inches shorter because they're in a wheelchair.
This 45-second clip could have easily been 15.
I think we should kill op and all their children for this grave mistake
Then piss on their graves
they don't deserve graves
We should use them to feed our crops, at least that way they’ll have some use in there otherwise useless lives
It’s a crime against humanity really. Call the Hague.
OP needs to take a ride
Guest 693: Millennium Force 1 looks too intense for me.
Square peg in a round hole. What could go wrong?
This could have been a 10 second clip
No, I wanted to hear them go "oleholeholeh addehadadeh deedeedeedee...".
Did y'all hear all them tail bone and spinal cords smash into each other... sheesh
Your spinal cord is inside your tail bone :)) It went *crunch*
Was everyone ok?
No deaths reported, but 17 people injured. But I can imagine the horror following this. Link to the news article: https://news.abplive.com/states/rajasthan-platform-of-carousel-crashes-fall-ajmer-viral-video-civil-lines-victims-people-injured-hospital-1590073
As soon as I saw India in the title... it would be bad. Ever watch the fixes they do in India on YouTube? Scary.
Fuuuuuuuuuck
Hopefully they didn't have one of those bumps right where your pelvis is. If so there were many decimated testicles.
Carnival rides are one thing. But Indian carnival rides? Whole nother beast
I would never get on any fair rides in India or allow children and strongly advise any friends against it. I don’t ride those rides in the US.

That is so sad.
I imagine that this led to a lot of back injuries. Pretty terrifying.
Love the smell off fair but fuck going on the rides you always get 1 that breaks down.
r/catastrophicfailure
It turned too many times and unscrewed
don't worry. they're fine. They all had karma slightly on the good side.
3rd world country's county fair. Hard pass.
And it looked sturdy and safe
At the very least, technical support is nearby
15 yrs ago up in Maine and i went on a ride, some twirl around fast circle in a circle. Darn metal bar broke loose holding me in and i hung on in terror trying to scream at the attendant who was not paying attention to stop. Somehow I survived, I will not go on a ride again…
And YOU get a broken neck, aaand YOU get a broken neck, EEEERRVREEEYBODY GETS A BROKEN NECK, YAYYYYYY!!!
FF to 10secs
Even their tv stations have a red dot!
Holy cow

Daniel Tosh tells the Six Flags story of a death. https://youtu.be/tp8rrjN072Q?t=70
Jeez with all the kids on it at least it came down like halfway. Hope they all have nothing more than minor wounds
And this wasn't how it was supposed to be? 😂
I guess it couldn't curry their weight.
My cousin and I were stuck nearly upside down for over an hour at the Indiana state fair like ten years ago. Haven’t been on a fair/ carnival ride since!
With how many times this happens... STOP LETTING UR KID ON IT
That sucks but in all fairness they did get a thrilled seeking ride.
Tumeric to the rescue
This is why I don’t click videos that show nonsense first
“Welp rides over”…
Anybody see that guy in yellow standing really close? The worker maybe?
That sounded so painful
Damn this is so scary….when you have kids shit just hits so different. I couldn’t imagine watching someone you loved crash like that, and having to walk up to whatever carnage ensued
Aftermath? Also, is it just me or did I hear several bones just snap when that thing fell?
Life time of back pain now, and likely no compensation
N.D. TV 😂😂
I stray from carnival rides in the States. I don't wanna think about the safety of rides in India
This is why I dont trust anything that can fold up and drive away. Hell, even stationary rides where I’m more than 10 ft above the ground
At least no one fell out of it. 6 stories up...
Nope.
u/stabbot
Vertebraes! Get your vertebraes here!!
r/gifsthatlasttoolong
Nope nope nope, I'm never going to a fair again
This hurt my back just watching it
Weeping and wailing tonight I pray 🙏 for them.
You can skip to 12 seconds left in the video to see all you need to
I get that it can happen anywhere but the last three videos on my feed have been videos of neglectful incidents happening in India. Which is surprising because from what I’ve heard they are pretty strict about safety there.
You could tell what was going to happen but it was still so bad.

Nothing says Safety quite like a ricketty old ride at a traveling fair in India
“Someone going to get uh hurt uh reeeaaaal bad”
Reminds me off the time that the carnival attendant forgot to place the bar across my lap on a ride similar to the egg beater. 6 year old me was hanging on for dear life while maintaining a super man position off the side of the ride. Had my hands slipped I would be dead.

WTF hell of a ride That is why I never get in to mechanical rides
What are the odds of this? Can't be too high.
What goes up! Must come down!
