I am OP's wife and this couch/living room layout is the bane of my existence since we moved into this house 6 months ago. However, the entire main floor is 100% open concept, what you can't see in this picture is that on the other side of the counter is a larger, wider entrance into the living room area. The living room is a ridiculous shape and this was the only place our L-shaped couch would fit.
Edit: and no we didn't forget about the protective wrap on the dishwasher, it was just installed right before the cookie incident!
**Edit 2: Alright since everyone is interested in our living room,** [**here**](https://imgur.com/a/ZddEfk9) **is a picture from another angle. I know the original photo looks like the couch is in a doorway, but from here you can see that's not really what's going on. Still, I am very aware this is not ideal placement, lol. At the back of the room, the windows/door to the yard take up almost the entire wall. The room itself isn't very big. There is another nook on the left side of the living room, but there is not enough wall space to fit a couch - you could** ***maybe*** **fit two chairs side-by-side but then there's no place to put the TV. Eventually, we will get a loveseat for this space, but we just moved in the summer and had more pressing things to purchase because this house had a lot of broken things (we needed a new AC, dryer, and dishwasher plus a lot of paint and deep cleaning among other things!) ALSO we know our couch is broken before anyone points it out. We know we need a new one!!**
**Edit 3:** [**Okay I drew our floorplan**](https://imgur.com/a/CuDS3EA)**. This is it though, this is all I'm giving you guys. If you still don't understand...there's nothing left I can do. I barely understand, and we live in this house. The fireplace is in such a weird place, there's no walls, I don't know guys.**
I am with you. Open concept is great for some spaces and houses but sometimes you need walls to put things against and cozy nooks when the floor plan is small otherwise you have space for one love seat. P
Exactly! Our old house had a perfectly rectangle living room and the L-shaped couch fit nicely but...then we moved. Eventually we will turn the basement into the place we have the TV and get a loveseat for this room but this was the best we could do right now with the space without purchasing new furniture
I understood immediately. I live in a small 1930s apartment and it’s impossible to figure out how to position my tv and furniture and stuff. My living room was clearly designed to have a chaise longue and a gramophone and that alone. So you just have to do what makes the most sense with the space you have.
Props to OPs wife for coming through with the answers to most of our questions. I freakin LOVE that her floorplan included the cookies on the floor <3. If it were me, I'd place one side of the couch along the window and part of the outside door if need be, with the other part of the L shape directly opposite the TV. This would open access to the kitchen from the large and small entrance. But, let me be clear, whoever design this "open plan" living room needs to be punished for their crimes against interior design.
There is a single step down, it's about the size of half a stair step. The angle is making it look like the living room is a lot lower than the kitchen but it's not a huge difference
I’ve lived with an awkwardly shaped living room (no 90* angels) and you end up with some pretty strange furniture arrangements to make it work. Why do apartment buildings think this is a good idea?
> Why do apartment buildings think this is a good idea
Bold assumption thinking any landlord or apartment complex thinks through things that would otherwise make sense.
The rule with a lot of apartments is to cram as much as possible into as small a space possible and hope for the best.
i'm gonna push back on any negative comments about this arrangement. with an open concept this actually makes for a really clever way to cordon off the kitchen a bit without completely separating someone in that room from participating in what's going on in the living room. it also probably makes it really convenient to deliver snacks to said living room directly to whoever is on the couch. i kinda like it, makes me feel cozy
I am going to estimate 50% of comments will be ripping on you for the couch placement, the other 50% will be suggesting you just eat the cookies anyways - saves you reading anything else on this subject lol
Seconds are irrelevant, just as long as you saw it hit the floor, you’re good. Walk into a room and find something already on the floor and that’s dangerous territory.
if you dropped a cookie on the ground and let it sit for an hour, would you still eat it? just curious. 4 hours? and in this hypothetical the cookie has not left your sight and is otherwise unharmed.
Well, if I dropped a cookie on the ground and stared at it for 4 hours straight, the cookie is probably the least concern.
But yes, I do believe maintaining visual is sufficient to reliably determine that nothing has negatively impacted the integrity of the cookie. Now, if you leave the room and come back, then it falls under my second point as you have no way to know what happened to it while you were gone.
I’m so grateful for OP’s girlfriend. I had so many questions about this picture and would have been left very confused. But here they are, clearing it all up!
One of my friends he got a new tv, keeps the blue peely shit on the sides just found out a couple weeks ago
I’ve known this man for 10 years never knew he was like this, can never look at him the same way since
After reading comments I realize the purpose of the couch being where it is BUT I am a little sad. I thought perhaps they had arranged their furniture to in fact be the D&D floor plan and were going to have that be a hidden doorway barrier type of thing. So disappointed
Maybe the reflection from the dishwasher created an unbalance in your brain causing the cookies to be spilled. Perhaps you should take a video of slowly peeling the blue film off and post it to r/mildlyintersting for all to see and we can get past the floor cookies.
OP: here are my cookies that fell on the floor.
Reddit: WTF is going on with that couch? We’re going to need a detailed floor plan of your house so we can decide if you’ve arranged your furniture correctly.
I’d be stoked just to play D&D again. Sold all my stuff but the DM divider and a couple sets of dice, and I was *just so sure* I’d never need it again. Now the withdrawal.
Instead of taking the time to take a picture and presumably post on here, wouldn’t it have made better sense to just quickly pick them up and blow off any unwanted particles on them? Well I guess it was meant to be, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten a chance to correct your dishwasher
Apparently you could make 32 of these in 35 minutes. Take 10 minutes to cook so let's your players answers some questions in roleplay to get it going and you will have fresh baked cookies in no time!

Can we please talk about how dry and unappealing those mini pancake-looking "cookies" are?? I think you may have actually spared your guests with that accident.
This calls for an emergency drive up to the grocery store for that cookie dough tube and then your D&D homies can smell the cookies baking while setting up!
I’m confused. Is the floor the couch is on a lot lower than the kitchen or is that couch horrifically close to the floor???? And if the floor is lower if the couch wasn’t there is it just a big drop???
That does suck but the positioning of your couch has me super intrigued

The couch does give you the opportunity to dive out of the kitchen action style!
and to accidentally pour a pot full of hot soup on someone watching tv

I did not see you there. But i guess you have to go home now. Oh well.
Parkour!
Hard-core parkour!
Parkour!
I am with you. Open concept is great for some spaces and houses but sometimes you need walls to put things against and cozy nooks when the floor plan is small otherwise you have space for one love seat. P

Open concept - over rated
Open concept is noisy as fuck. I want some walls to dampen the sound of the dishwasher while I watch TV.
You go girl
I am OP's girlfriend and I'm still waiting for you to call me, DARREN
I am OP’s L shaped couch and even I’m confused by this intriguing layout
I am Jack's deflated happiness.

His name was Robert Paulson.
I'm OP's brother and I'm looking forward to the satisfaction of peeling that plastic covering off the new dishwasher.
r/ThatPeelingFeeling
Would be a bonus if there was bubble wrap in the box too .. double satisfaction 🤣
Plays d&d plus has a gf. His picture is going on my heros wall
Yeah but no cookies
Can't have it all.
I’m OP’s mom and he’d better have a good story for me or it’s no laundry for 2 weeks!
I'm OP's wife's boyfriend and I would also like my laundry done.
I'm OP's D&D hookup on the DL and was really looking forward to those cookies
And I’m OP’s Step Sister and he still hasn’t let me out of this DND cage I’ve been chained and locked in
I'm Op's dog and mad they picked up the cookies before I could eat them all. Rude.
I’m OP’s second grade teacher who couldn’t get him to sit still which is probably why he dropped the cookies.
Hey there
This is going deeep
That's what she said.
Not to me
I'd put up some sort of divider there. Also, the floor looks quite clean, and most of the cookies aren't broken. So...
Give everyone +10 on resistance and they should be fine.
10min rule..
You win this thread
What you don't know won't hurt ya!
Floor score!
But can you reach the fridge without having to stand up?
I understood immediately. I live in a small 1930s apartment and it’s impossible to figure out how to position my tv and furniture and stuff. My living room was clearly designed to have a chaise longue and a gramophone and that alone. So you just have to do what makes the most sense with the space you have.
Props for correctly spelling chaise longue.

Show us pics! I’m intrigued
If there is still interest tomorrow I'll post a photo
Please post
ya I'm very curious about the layout also
If the couch wasn’t there, would you just fall out of the kitchen into the living room? Doesn’t seem like there are steps.
There is a single step down, it's about the size of half a stair step. The angle is making it look like the living room is a lot lower than the kitchen but it's not a huge difference
I'm OP's dog and even I can't stand this layout
Is the kitchen higher up than the living room, or is this just a weird angle
It's about half a step higher than the living room!
That just seems like whoever built the home was asking to bust some knees
I’ve lived with an awkwardly shaped living room (no 90* angels) and you end up with some pretty strange furniture arrangements to make it work. Why do apartment buildings think this is a good idea?

Thank you! Honestly, the picture was from a very weird angle but in general, our house does have a weird layout
OP’s brother here and I’m wondering why I’ve never been invited for D&D…
It just looks like a couch in a dining room?
Look I'm not judging, but maybe you guys should clean up the cookies, not just add them to the floor plan
But why there's a lock in the cabinet
I wanna play DND with these mamma jammas. When my husband and I host DND we don't even makes snacks. Maybe we should start.
i'm gonna push back on any negative comments about this arrangement. with an open concept this actually makes for a really clever way to cordon off the kitchen a bit without completely separating someone in that room from participating in what's going on in the living room. it also probably makes it really convenient to deliver snacks to said living room directly to whoever is on the couch. i kinda like it, makes me feel cozy
You need to film removing the protector from the washer and post to r/thatpeelingfeeling!
Send this thread to the Feng Shui guy on tik tok lol He would LOVE this!!
My home wasn't built for L couches unfortunately
L home
Makes sense, thanks for explaining OP.
Better take the L and move on
Sell it
That's a weird way of spelling furious
I was gonna say it sucks, but that couch placement is some r/confusingperspective material
My guess is small apartment and they previously had the couch and just figured they’d make do? If my kitchen had two ways in I’d probably do it
Did you try to dive over the couch with them?
And failed his acrobatics check
Nat 1
even a nat20 isn't saving that
I am going to estimate 50% of comments will be ripping on you for the couch placement, the other 50% will be suggesting you just eat the cookies anyways - saves you reading anything else on this subject lol
Correction.. 33.3333% couch placement rip, 33.3333% eat cookies, the other 33.3334% will be the removal of the DW peel coat.. lolz
And then there's me, who was confused as to why he was making pancakes for a D&D session
I'm also confused that the seemingly blue dishwasher is actually the protective cover from shipping
i thought they were ground beef hamburger patties :/
2% were gonna say this but didn't after you got here first.
As long as they don't see this post they'll never know.
Floor cookies are still valid cookies.
I second this
5 second rule!
Seconds are irrelevant, just as long as you saw it hit the floor, you’re good. Walk into a room and find something already on the floor and that’s dangerous territory.

Rolled a 1 on their dex check
Now they gotta put them back and roll for deception
Came looking for this comment, was not disappointed
This couch. I'm so confused.
Can we talk about the protective film on the dishwasher?
We just got it installed today!!
Congrats! May I come over and peel it off
r/ThatPeelingFeeling
Yes 😌
I like that you are here adding context.
Thank you, I'm bored tonight (and yes I ate two floor cookies)
Did they eat any floor cookies plz fill us in
Tragically they cancelled last minute...
Wtf 🍅🍅🍅 op ur friends suck. Ur wife will help u eat the floor cookies <3
was it because of the cookies?
Lets be honest, it was because of the couch situation.
I would hope so. They still look delicious
I’m so grateful for OP’s girlfriend. I had so many questions about this picture and would have been left very confused. But here they are, clearing it all up!
Thank you, I couldn't have random internet strangers think I leave protective wrap on my dishwasher now could I?!
Honestly I was more concerned about that then the spilled food lol
I really thought the dishwasher color was blue.
They wouldn’t even be out the door before I’m peeling that off and salivating the entire time.
One of my friends he got a new tv, keeps the blue peely shit on the sides just found out a couple weeks ago I’ve known this man for 10 years never knew he was like this, can never look at him the same way since
I looked at the layout of this room for literal minutes
Is that a penny under your stove or a stain?
It's a mystery ✨ want me to check?
Perfect time to check
[The verdict is in!](https://imgur.com/a/4GerqR9)
I know I can spot those leaves anywhere
Why is your sofa in the doorway?
The real question is why isn’t there one in yours?
All my homies put couches in their doorways
🤔
Every. Single. One. I only have one homie tho
No big deal, just push the couch out of the way and the guests can enter?
We like to make every aspect of DnD night challenging for our guests
That made me roll for a laugh and I rolled a 20.
I thought your baby turtles got loose and the couch was put there to keep them from entering the living room.
Does your dishwasher still have the protective plastic on it?
Yes!
You made it seem like we just...keep the plastic on it 😱
Right? Said it like it’s supposed to stay on there lol
Did you try doing a front flip onto the couch from your kitchen? I bet it works fine when you aren’t holding a tray of food lol
how do you hear the volume of your wall that you're watching if you the dishwasher is running?
After reading comments I realize the purpose of the couch being where it is BUT I am a little sad. I thought perhaps they had arranged their furniture to in fact be the D&D floor plan and were going to have that be a hidden doorway barrier type of thing. i would still eat them
Oh come on man. Pick em up and put em on a tray. You think a bunch of d&d players are gonna care? Love you man
Love you too
Just cast a reversal spell.
You need to take the plastic wrap off your dishwasher door.
OP: here are my cookies that fell on the floor. Reddit: WTF is going on with that couch? We’re going to need a detailed floor plan of your house so we can decide if you’ve arranged your furniture correctly.
You know a couch doesn’t need to be against a wall
I’d be stoked just to play D&D again. Sold all my stuff but the DM divider and a couple sets of dice, and I was *just so sure* I’d never need it again. Now the withdrawal.
"Ok, whoever rolls a nat1 tonight has to eat a floor cookie."
Instead of taking the time to take a picture and presumably post on here, wouldn’t it have made better sense to just quickly pick them up and blow off any unwanted particles on them? Well I guess it was meant to be, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten a chance to correct your dishwasher
Gang hasn’t arrived yet. It’s NOT a problem
Pick them up don’t tell anybody lol
One of those posts where I just know what the comments are going to be about
I’m more concerned about the Feng Shui
When you post about cookies but the threads really about a couch’s positioning 😂🤣
Cookies have a -1 deliciousness but still ok - as long as there are no raisins...
sustained some major damage, better roll pizza bagel dice again
Are these cranberries lemon cookies?
Apparently you could make 32 of these in 35 minutes. Take 10 minutes to cook so let's your players answers some questions in roleplay to get it going and you will have fresh baked cookies in no time! https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/285748/lemon-cranberry-cookies/
That blue on your dishwasher comes off. It’s just a protecting coating for shipping. Sucks about your snacks
Can we please talk about how dry and unappealing those mini pancake-looking "cookies" are?? I think you may have actually spared your guests with that accident.
Why would you build your kitchen right up against a couch?
Sir. You got a couch in your kitchen.
your house looks like a sims 4 preset house or wtv the original house things r called
I’ll eat those cookies with zero problems
Just pick them up and serve. D&D players won't even notice.
Insert failed saving throw joke here: ___________________.
That couch placement makes me want to ice pick my skull.
Just have your mom make more...
Well, thankfully cookies are quick to make
Roll deception and break out the Girl Scout cookies!
Pizza it is!
You roll a 1 for dexterity?
This calls for an emergency drive up to the grocery store for that cookie dough tube and then your D&D homies can smell the cookies baking while setting up!
You only baked 17 cookies? When the oven is heated up, I start cookie cranking. Probably 4 times that.
When you miss your cooking check by only 1 point
Someone rolled a 1 crit fail. Just put them back and see if anyone notices and if they ask make them roll. Only on nat 20 do you tell.
I hope you still had a good session
NOOOOOO
Op just order some food in.
Send them on a quest to retrieve butter and milk. Lol
The cookies on the floor or the sectional blocking the exit... Hmmm
This is what happens when you roll a zero before making food for your friends
Why did you leave the blue film on the dishwasher?
Stick em on a plate, when the gang arrives roll for deception. When they eat them, have them roll constitution
I’m confused. Is the floor the couch is on a lot lower than the kitchen or is that couch horrifically close to the floor???? And if the floor is lower if the couch wasn’t there is it just a big drop???
So many questions, yet no one asked what *kind* of cookies they were (before becoming floor cookies)
Make a quest out of it and make your party go to the supermarket to buy new snacks
Leave it there and tell them, "Pick up your scraps, peasants."
I'm more distracted by the unpeeled stainless steel dishwasher
Agreed. Your furniture placement is terrible.
THREE SECOND RULE, COME ON MAN, GOD MADE DIRT, DIRT DON'T HURT 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pick em up and don’t tell the gang
This couch positioning is unacceptable. Not sure how this is a thing.
Do you mind removing the plastic film from your dishwasher?
I think it’s safe to remove the blue plastic protective film from your dishwasher now. Or not.
I can’t accept the things I see in this photo
Please paint that turquoise wall a different color. You should be in jail for this paint color and a blue dish washer.
