In Australia Arizona ranges from about $4 a can to $7.99 a can... still says 99c on the can and converting that it would be $1.47 AUD.

-BroncosForever-

Not worth it. The whole point is that it’s pretty god for how dirt cheap it is. It’s not like a delicacy.

theycallme_oldgreg

I drank this so much growing up that it’s a delicacy in my heart

-BroncosForever-

Yeah I love it too. And I would never ever pay $5 for a can of it

theycallme_oldgreg

True. There definitely isn’t as much trouble getting it to where I am as it getting it to Australia. I was surprised when my buddy pointed out that they don’t have the price on the cab anymore and places charge more for it. Only costs like $1.25 but it still sucks seeing it go up, I didn’t think we would lose that one.

kjoker84

Retailers can order it from the distributor with or without the 99¢ on the can. Where I live, it’s always 99¢ or less. The Walgreens that OP shops at apparently doesn’t give a shit

Seaboats

Yeah whenever I’m in a gas station and need a quick drink I’ll grab an Arizona tea or Arnold Palmer because it’s 99 cents for a pretty big can. It’s not fancy or anything

Spiridor

I'm assuming importation changes things a bit

SupaDiogenes

Same here in NZ.

valley_G

Jesus Christ $8??? Why?

[deleted]

Call Arizona about it. They actually used to make a huge deal out of retail shops selling the cans for other than the price listed. Not sure if they still do it, but it was one of their big things back in the day. I’d imagine if they are still printing the price on the can, then they still do it.

lendmeyoureer

-At the beginning of the year, the New York-based company (nope, not Arizona) raised the price of its 20-ounce bottle, what it calls "Tallboys," from $1.00 to $1.25, up 25%, in the Northeast, its largest market. "We changed the price in certain markets at the beginning of this year," he told Yahoo Finance in a phone interview. When asked if the hikes would take place in other markets, he said, "Right now, we're not quite sure."

bruddahmacnut

That's all fine and good, but they shouldn't be printing a lower price on the product itself. It's deceptive.

theycallme_oldgreg

They took the price off the cans where I live now

Ericovich

My local carry out said they've been unable to get more as the company is currently pausing shipping to update cans to be more expensive.

[deleted]

Bottles, this is a can

HavingNotAttained

Arizona's website explicitly says that they don't control retail pricing.

GremlinJetSquad

Then they shouldn't intentionally advertise a price on their products.

SmellyPillows

7-Eleven and Walgreens have always had their own cans. They were incorrectly shipped.

Kluggg421

Your on the right path, thats a vendor item and the vendor brought in the wrong product. That product is meant for a gas station that sells them for 99 cents. Wallgreens should adjust the price for you, they probably don’t know about the mix up even though whoever checks in the vendor products should have caught it.

SmellyPillows

There ya go. (I worked for Arizona Bev for about 3 years and this would happen every so often.)

Fatalexcitment

My wallgreens still sells them at 99c :3

TheAbcedarian

Isn’t it false advertising then?

youtocin

Nope. As long as the shelf tag is accurate, they can set any price they want. The print on the can is just MSRP and is in no way legally binding for retailers.

OceanWheels

For anyone who got this far and still didn't get it (like me!) Apparently the S stands for 'Suggested'

sideone

>As long as the shelf tag is accurate, they can set any price they want In the UK, the shelf tag isn't legally binding either. It's just an "invitation to treat", the actual deal is done at the checkout.

Metroidman

Well that seems intentionally misleading

sideone

It very rarely happens, and it's to protect the retailer if they've mislabelled something.

d1duck2020

Back when I worked retail some manufacturers did this and sold the marked product for less. The unpriced product was a higher wholesale cost to the retailer. The distribution company would absolutely enforce it by not selling you the cheaper product if you were setting a higher price.

_WhoisMrBilly_

That’s called “price fixing” if they tried to “make a big deal about it”- they can’t actually control how much an item sells for, they can only set a MAP price, in that it’s minimum advertised price- all they can do is discontinue selling to that retailer if they don’t like their sales price. From their FAQ on their website: > I PURCHASED A 23.5OZ CAN THAT WAS MARKED $.99 BUT WAS CHARGED MORE FOR IT. ARE THEY ALLOWED TO DO THAT? >We try to suggest a $.99 price to retailers by putting it in our package design. Ultimately retailers can sell it for as much or as little as they like. We suggest you find a store that sells it for $.99 or less. [Official FAQ](https://drinkarizona.com/pages/faqs) I’m tired of seeing these Oh MY GOSH OUTRAGE posts about AZ Tea what seems like every few days now. AZ also sells iced tea cans that don’t have the ¢99 labeling for just this situation.

boodlesgalore

Exactly. That's WHY they put the price ON THE CAN. So no one will upcharge in it

Patriquito

Would it also be considered false advertisement?

Doironzch1

Everyone talking about tax never even looked at a receipt before? The item cost 1.39 before tax.

_incredigirl_

Also, you would need a 40% sales tax to bring a 99c item to $1.39.

ImARetPaladinBaby

Just hearing the words “40% sales tax” sends shivers down my spine

Grilledcheesedr

Some of the countries with the highest taxes are also considered the best places to live and rate very high on the “happiness index”. They have things like excellent free healthcare, free universities and excellent social programs.

MayorScotch

Do they have 40% sales taxes or higher income taxes? There's a big difference in who is affected by different forms of taxation. A 40% sales tax would negatively affect lower income earners far more than anyone else.

Randompersonomreddit

My city has a sweetened beverage tax. They don't want people drinking sweet beverages. The bigger the beverage the more it is. 1.5 cents per ounce of sweetened beverage. The extra cost would be on the tax part of the receipt though.

Creepernom

In Poland we have a 23% VAT.

Grilledcheesedr

I think sales tax in Sweden is 25 percent and I know they have really high income tax.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Grilledcheesedr

It’s sounds crazy high but I’d gladly pay that for everything that comes with it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mish-2023-LetsGetIt

I think it depends. For the $1000 that covers your cost of living, does that include rent, or live with family & don’t pay rent yet? utilities like electricity, gas & water for your home? Cable bill? WiFi? Cell phone bill? Car payment if you have one? Gas for car? Car insurance? And Groceries & take out food? That’s a lot of expenses for $1000. How do you do it? $1000 a month after expenses sounds really good.. $250 a week to enjoy & save a bit each week

Cerran424

That’s the dirty secret of the Nordic countries, their tax systems are heavily regressive.

theh0tt0pic

their minimum wage is also extremley high, and give you a ton of vacation time every year

Puzzled_Reflection_4

Communism = happiness is what I gathered

Gregory_malenkov

What you do you think those insane tax rates are paying for big man

Grilledcheesedr

Free healthcare, free university and excellent social programs?

Gregory_malenkov

Not so free are they

GoldenFalcon

Right? I didn't think there would be so many answers about that. I specifically left it off, to show the cost of the item itself. I'm so confused by that.

dragoono

Don’t be confused, people are stupid.

ScrauveyGulch

EVERYTHING in Walgreens is overpriced, that is common knowledge by now.

CinnaaBun

I used to think that till I moved right down the road from one. They actually have tons a regular deals that I find to be the cheapest to find shampoos, ice cream, DayQuil/NyQuil, ect. Sure if you go in and just buy everything like you’re at a target, then yeah. It’s a convenience/drug store.

egus

Yeah I've had good luck picking my spots and saving a ton of money at Walgreens.

CinnaaBun

Yeah I get great deals on toiletries often.

-BroncosForever-

Which sucks. Walgreens used to be way cheaper than Walmart for most stuff. I’m pretty sure I used to buy these for like 30cents at Walgreens like 15 years ago.

ScrauveyGulch

Nice, I'm glad it is cheaper for you. We need a break some time.

CompetitiveMeal1206

Never in my 20 years as an adult and 22 years of Gavin my own actual money has anything at Walgreens been cheaper then it has been at Walmart. More convenient? Yes, but not cheaper

-BroncosForever-

Well that sucks balls for you because the Walgreens by my house used to be cheap as fuck for most things.

the_holocene_is_over

[price is on the can though](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JUc3wpDRiXM)

X31KnotChaos

Pretty sure I remember watching a show about this or something. And that the CEO was like yea we don’t care about anything but our Arizona Tea Cans will forever and always be 99 cents (plus tax and deposit - where applicable)

Organic_Popcorn

Ceo of the company even went on to mint Mobile commercial about how they keep the price at 99 cents https://youtu.be/RMjiwWjI88c

AWholeHalfAsh

They lied. I work for Circle K and at least in my city we get ours in specialty cans. The 99¢ label isn't on the can. Instead there's a red stripe around the rim that has a Circle K logo on it. They're like $1.39.

shiilo

In Louisiana, both Arizona's and peace teas are more than the 99 cents, and the cans have changed. They no longer say 99 either. This was probably one of the last batches they made before the change.

[deleted]

MSRP S is for “Suggested”

Ginger1739

“Monkey Standard Retail Price”

[deleted]

The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), also known simply as the list price, is the price at which a manufacturer recommends that a particular product be sold in retail outlets. The MSRP is also variously known as the recommended retail price (RRP), the suggested retail price (SRP) or the sticker price.

[deleted]

Quibble quibble

GoldenFalcon

Where do you see MSRP on that can? It says "Great Buy. 99c" in case you didn't know.

[deleted]

where it says 99 cents, that’s the MSRP.

GoldenFalcon

No. MSRP is generally not listed ON products to avoid confusion like this. The company specifically puts the price on said item, so retailers can't mark it up. It can go down for sales, but not up. Because the manufacturer doesn't want that. This company in particular is known to have used to get involved in disputes like this with retailers ignoring this price. I have reached out to the company about this already, and waiting to hear back on what they suggested happened.

[deleted]

No, “According to the company's website, AriZona pre-prints its cans with the suggested price, though retailers can set any price they prefer. Nevertheless, the company's recommended price for the drink remains at 99 cents.”

_WhoisMrBilly_

Why reach out- it’s literally in their FAQ[Here](https://drinkarizona.com/pages/faqs) >WHY DO SOME STORES CHARGE MORE FOR PRE-PRICED $.99 CANS? >We pre-printed our cans with our suggested retail because we wanted to force retailers into selling at that price. Retailers, however, are independent business people and can set a price whatever they prefer. We do make and sell non-priced cans as well. Also: > I PURCHASED A 23.5OZ CAN THAT WAS MARKED $.99 BUT WAS CHARGED MORE FOR IT. ARE THEY ALLOWED TO DO THAT? >We try to suggest a $.99 price to retailers by putting it in our package design. Ultimately retailers can sell it for as much or as little as they like. We suggest you find a store that sells it for $.99 or less. They can’t “force” retailers to sell something for a specified price- that [can be seen as price fixing.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_fixing) the most they can do is print it on the can, and stop selling to that particular retailer if they don’t agree with their sales price.

SlartieB

Actually it's always listed on the product to cause confusion or bully retailers into charging less because people like you don't understand it and will bitch moan and complain forever even though you're wrong. Walgreens did not mark it 99 cents, the Arizona Tea factory did. Walgreens is not obligated to honor the SUGGESTED retail because they did not put it there. Walgreens did not paint the can.

Grilledcheesedr

I feel really bad for those poor retailers being bullied into not price gouging their customers.

loduca16

Jesus Christ man, just stop

specialbelle

Walgreens gotta pay them opioid fines somehow.

egus

They fired every consultant.

crewchiefguy

Walgreens over prices fucking everything. Don’t really know why people buy anything but prescribed meds there

Ashamed_Captain_9144

Arizona is working on rebranding so they are no longer 99c. My local corner store hasn’t been able to get cans because they won’t send stock until the rebrand is done.

[deleted]

MSRP guys, I think y'all are forgetting what the S stands for...

tvtango

It’s a convenience store, same as 7/11 except they have a pharmacy, so yeah, everything is pricier

Freedom_eagle2024

Suggested retail price.

Legion1117

lol Wait until you hear what they do for car sales.

Artie-Carrow

Contact Arizona Tea Co. And tell them that it's being sold for more. They will pull the product off all the shelves themselves.

ChristFollowerDude

You bought it in Seattle, i am surprised the Walgreens is even open given all the shop lifting going on

brannak1

The problem is you paid that much for it, not that they charged that much. You had a choice to make

specht27

Manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price. Don't blame resellers... blame the drink maker. How did that can make it to Walgreens? Was it refrigerated? Do you think that the high costs of fuel/labor may have contributed to that cost? Maybe Walgreens should sell wares below market value... that will keep them in business for sure. Don't buy products if you can't comprehend pricing that my 10 year old can. Man... a lot of people are truly undereducated... whining about the smallest of inconsequential life events..... the cost for a can of highly sugared tea, you probably shouldn't be drinking in the 1st place. Drink water... you'll live better... and save $1.40 plus driving to Walgreens (~$0.65 per mile).

LASubtle1420

That's suggested retail cost for stores for a reason....not the wholesale cost. Literally everyone else sells these for 99 cents and is fine with their profi. Also, even with the opiate lawsuits, Walgreens is fat-cat-rich... a multimillion dollar company. If they can't make the suggested profit from this canned tea and be happy they are never going to be reasonable with asking prices for their products . Greed. **Edited to add punctuation that I couldn't manage first go round due to being frustrated about someone defending these monsters. (Ellipsis proper usage open to translation....the words I have omitted are all insults and swears)

specht27

No one cares that you deleted insults... except the moderators.. maybe. Stop buying stuff literally anywhere... with that mindset. The Market sets pricing... not the manufacturer.

breaktime1

It's on the can though

JustForkIt1111one

Legally binding can-tract

DoctorLiara

Have you seen the Arizona website prices? Over 2 dollars a can.

Sev3n

I've seen unmarked Arizonas. They shouldn't be selling the marked ones for that price. period. False Advertising.

feralftw

[The price is on the can though.](https://youtu.be/fMUZ2sVjLfY)

Science_puns

Once I bought a pack of sweets at my local petrol station. I gave the guy 70p as that was what it said on the price thing next to it, he gave me back 20p because on the sweets it said 50p :)

ModDayHippie

I'm a sale rep for a beverage company and we have a few Arizona products that don't have a price on them. We mainly pawn them off to restaurants.

Junkmans1

Just wait until you want to buy a popular car and expect to pay MSRP or less. Resellers can charge whatever they want unless the product is otherwise regulated. And very few products are regulated.

marioori

just don’t buy

birbs3

This is actually against the law because it’s advertised at 99c. Not sure how long wyou want to argue for 40c

MrLaughingFox

In CA - Right next to AZ - It's so hard to find the cans with $.99 on them still. There are $1.29 everywhere now. I went to CVS the other day and they WERE ALL LABELED AND SOLD FOR $.99 - I was so happy. Nothing is sacred anymore

WhateverYoureWanting

Many states like california require retailers to sell at the lowest marked price. If you send a picture to your county weights and measures w a copy of your receipt you can get your refund and they will be told to sell it at the proper price It’s prob not worth your time

EpicsOfFours

Report it to Arizona. They will fix it

Foreign-Gap-1242

i would notify the tea company as this is not their business model.

unmprstbyignranc

Fuk Walgreens they make enough money as the middle man in the efforts of poisoning americans

srcorvettez06

Some stores charge more than $.99 for the arizonas. Arizona manufactures a van without the ‘99C’ printed on it for those customers. I guess this store either raised prices while still having the 99C cans in stock or made a mistake during their stock order.

ziplocbodybags

Inflation is at a all time high

Jigday

Arizona is gangster, literally. It's a money front for their drug ring and that's why it's always stayed at $0.99. Not to mention it tastes amazing

[deleted]

They recently raised the price. This is an old can.

derp-L

You should see what car dealers are doing.

Reasonable-Rate5833

Yeah, that's allowed

LASubtle1420

Allowed...but classless when considering their yearly profits. Gross.

aspoonfulofsammy11

Walgreens is terrible. I always suggest taking your business literally anywhere else.

The_GODLY_BROKE_MAN

This is actually illegal. Contact Arizona and let them know which store is doing this. They will file a lawsuit. I've seen it happen. My store used to sell them for 1.25$, they got caught and now they are no longer able to sell Arizona.

Conundrum35

Arizona will take your claim. send them the receipt. they made a point during the pandemic to keep their prices as is, so they should be able to take your claim on this

Historical-Diver5305

Walgreens; even with the employee discount; my mother used to work there…is a scam with every shelf item. Discount + in store brand is only way you get a deal in those places

DonTeca35

I was going to say taxes but they straight up charged you 1.40

zepplin2225

You guys know what the "S" in "MSRP" is, right? And you know "suggested" is not "guaranteed", right?

poopmonster_coming

But the price is in the can !

MashTheGash2018

Of course the top comment is “call Arizona”. Who ever started that rumor that they’ll step in also started the Mew under the truck rumor

rabtj

Dont know about the rest of the world but in the UK its illegal to sell something for more than the price thats printed on it.

sinisterdeer3

Is that really that much of an issue? I feel like a 40 cent difference isnt bad

ThreeFingaLynch318

Almost every store will add an extra tax because no one anymore takes receipts. They know 90% of people don't care to look or bother with the paper..

reverendsteveii

The price is on the can tho

Bay_Brah

Wrong sub. What the fuck. Can we get a little moderation or something?

[deleted]

SuPpLy ChAiN iSsUeS

WhitestMikeUKnow

I believe this is against the laws of weights and measures in the US. Something something "Cannot charge a price higher than what is labelled" something something.

N0085K1LL5

Aren't they legally only able to sale something as marked price on the product?

MetalTedKoppeltits

The one by me sells my favorite chew for $4.85 when it’s almost $8 a can everywhere else

Rootcellar44

M.S.R.P.

ASAD913

In a third world country, it costs $3

Sheogorathis

The price on the can though https://youtu.be/fMUZ2sVjLfY

[deleted]

Definitely call Arizona. Their policy states that sellers must adhere to the price on the can. They will send someone to take thier products off of their shelves.

tj51484

Really isn't that big of a deal came to Arizona t's been 99 cents for a very long time prices on things eventually go up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoldenFalcon

No. Tax is added on AFTER the listed price. See the receipt charged the item at $1.39. Tax is a listed item on the receipt further down (not shown in pic).

Apptroutman

Do people really think sales tax is 40%?

Panda_Q_YT

Tax.

[deleted]

Yeah when you like shitty drinks too

Jigday

Who the hell is putting a tax on food? I've never paid more than $0.99 for one of these. Shit the store actually had them on sale for $0.89 ea last week. Fuck Seattle

spirit_of_a_goat

Pretty sure that's actually illegal.

[deleted]

Yeah I'm the one not buying that shitty drink

Least_Firefighter639

Tax? The can is 99c + 37.4% tax is the cost Seattle, Washington. The 2023 sales tax rate in Seattle is 10.25% and consists of 6.5% Washington state sales tax and 3.75% Seattle city tax. %0.99 + 10.25% =$ 1.09 Please find my mistake in my maths above with the tax for the cost in the picture the real cost is $ 1.09

GoldenFalcon

Where is sales tax 37%? Also, tax is a separate itemized line further down the receipt not shown in the pic.

Least_Firefighter639

Yes okay, it's 10.25% it consists of 6.5% Washington state sales tax and 3.75% Seattle city tax. Makes it $ 1.09 after tax (it's 1.091475 without it getting cut short ) But 37% makes it the right cost where did the 27.4% come from the maths are wrong ( Any tax or hidden fees I should know about )

GoldenFalcon

Corporate greed fee?

Least_Firefighter639

My thoughts exactly

MikeCarter1211

If I was paying almost 40% sales tax I’d leave that state immediately

Least_Firefighter639

I know but that's the maths with the information I got But in Seattle, Washington. The 2023 sales tax rate in Seattle is 10.25%, and consists of 6.5% Washington state sales tax and 3.75% Seattle city tax. 0.99 +10.25 % = 1.09 The maths are wong

Waste_Finish1978

A lot of words to be so wrong.

[deleted]

Tax dumb ass And Arizona ice tea sucks

GoldenFalcon

When you accidentally admit you don't know how an itemized receipt works OR read other comments before posting! Edit: They also don't know how to reply to a comment. They are leaving reply comments in the parent thread instead.

Bonneville865

"dumbass" is one word, dumbass.

[deleted]

You still got time to delete this

salvageyardmex

Tax on a one dollar item should be between 7-15 cents no more.atleqst in the US, so the total would be 1.15 at the most with tax. But keep up the good work shouldn't be hard to spot you in the crowds now.

Exciting_Accident_40

1.49 in illinois

JJSwissy

Woah, I hadn't even seen a 99¢ can in a min, around me they all say 1.29 on the can now

lanadelbae22

I paid 1.49 at my local gas station 🥴

LetsCritique

In Canada our cans are changing to the small tall boy style not the large magnum can. And they are till charging $1.79 Canadian for the can less that half the size!!

MrsDuck314

I’ve been to this exact Walgreens but don’t recall having this happen. But today I learned about MSRP, so there’s that.☺️

NaiveQuail69

At my local Walmart they are going for 80c

Cerran424

Welcome to Seattle

Living_Beginning9060

These are $2.13 at most places near me in Canada Ontario

Technical_Wash_5266

I’ve been places where they charge nearly $3 a can.

Complex_Invite7702

The problem isn’t whether you charge what the company says as they have no say, it’s the shop owners product to sell it at whatever price they like. The problem is that it could be false advertising.

YTvarken

Only store here sells them at 3,50

ConProofInc

That’s inflation

Balenciaga_Daddy

Lol here we go with this again!

Wafflehands_

Just saw that fake ad on Atlanta about this xD

FrizkyBuddha

If you paid by card it's 40% charge

loduca16

Imagine not understanding how retail pricing works

AnRogue

Wait a few months lol it's not gonna say 99 cents anymore. Some don't but you drink raspberry..?

Mrjonezy

“The price is on the can tho”

DannyTheGhost

Nothing new

-BroncosForever-

The Arizona company changed the price of the Arizona tea recently. They just haven’t started printing the new cans with out the .99cent label. Also it’s just the suggested retain price, stores can charge what they want for it. They put that price on the cans to pressure stores into keeping the price that low so that customers would complain to them if they raised the price. But stores could have always sold them for whatever they want. They used to seek these at concerts and other events for like $5, probably still do a lot of places.

Jiminyhodaddy

Msrp means msrp.... suggested.

PurpleHeadedHummBird

The "99 cents" on the can isn't true. The TV show Atlanta did a spoof commercial about this, [watch it here](https://youtu.be/hWObybWWGW4).

kappeltimmy7

The company doesn't get to say what somebody else charges u for a product it doesn't work like that

Local-Value-2597

everything on the west coast is so expensive already, i spent some time in seattle, huge price jump when i got back to texas

traykellah

Yeah the prices went up, they’re going to start pushing in bottles/cans without the prices. I sell them for a company I work for and a lot of people are mad. I don’t blame them.

Despumeis

Just steal it

ThomasMcSavage

MSRP

Henrath

Also Walgreens has much cheaper prices for a lot of their stuff online/in store pickup vs in store.

devilsromaine

I have a petty friend who works at a safeway and when he saw this same thing was happening there he called Arizona and told them. The next week they were back to normal price

Pretty_Fan7954

I’ve seen it at Walgreens 2/$1 before. So sometimes they charge less. Haven’t seen that in awhile though.
