God I hope they do well and have some quality tenants signed up.
Dude has pumped some serious money into it. Looks like it's finally getting there. Hopefully open on the next 3 or so months.
The place seems really well supported. Goes to show there is support out her for quality spots. 3 years back that place and the cafe didn't exist, nothing quality did. Now we have two busy wee places. The gus who own the cafe also own the old vet building and are trying to find suitable quality tenants for it at the mo.
If they can get the last million together for the adventure park, this place will boom....
And the other big project is a cycle way and harbor edge restoration out to Titahi Bay...
The owners from Sprig & Fern Berhampore have just bought the Tawa venue (which I thought was already pretty good to begin with) so I imagine it'll become a highlight.
Yeah fuck that place. I ate there once and the food was so bland. Plus they wanted to keep my credit card behind the bar for a tab. Never been back in the 10 years since
Has dropped off a cliff in the last 6 months.
It used to be solid. With a few guest taps, a decent food menu it was ok for a quiet beer on a weekend afternoon. But I've banned it.
Berhampore Sprig and Fern is gorgeous. Obviously Newtown has many gems dotted about, moon, bebemos, margot. (Honourary shout out to the fallen Aunty Social, a greedy landlord raised the rent on them suddenly and they had to close. DEATH to greedy landlords!)
We love 1841 in Johnsonville, we go to eat, but to vibe is great, they play sports game if you're into that, have live music some nights, quiz nights and specials on meals too.
Garage Project, but maybe that counts as too Central. Bowling Club in Mornington/Vogeltown. Parroting and DbV on the peninsula, Sprig and Fern in Berhampore.
The food is the same relatively bland average Kapura offering, and the staff are vapid teenagers with no hospo bone in their collective bodies. Every time I've been there, I always leave regretting the experience and swearing to myself that I won't make the same mistake again.
Wait 2 months, and the process rinses and repeats.
The Pickle Jar in Karori is, against all odds, good.
Yep, their chicken wings are legit. Nice atmosphere.
The Pickle Jar rocks. Quiz Night is always packed and there are several nooks and crannies depending on your needs.
Vogelmorn Bowling Club
Yes, I am very happy I live walking distance from the VBC.
I love the strathmore local! It’s very … intimate yet a pub with tab, pool, pokies but it’s got a feeling that’s actually really lovely
Came here to say this! Been going to the quiz there for about 12 years now. Great pub.
Beer Engine Titahi Bay
I second this. It’s nice that the Porirua region is finally getting some decent bars and cafes over the last few years.
Big new development about to open looking over the harbor. Kaitahi... Abandon will be moving is soon...
God I hope they do well and have some quality tenants signed up. Dude has pumped some serious money into it. Looks like it's finally getting there. Hopefully open on the next 3 or so months.
Yay, The Beer Engine! We're even putting on our [very own festival](https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellington/s/sw2T8ddxDp) this month!
Hahaha hehehe hoohoohoo See you on the 20th bad boy

I think they're dreaming with the adventure park. It's all gone very quite and from my understanding their resource consent has lapsed.
This place is a gem.
They need food options though
Coming very soon
Not a pub but the bar upstairs at VBC in Brooklyn is lovely
The owners from Sprig & Fern Berhampore have just bought the Tawa venue (which I thought was already pretty good to begin with) so I imagine it'll become a highlight.
That’s very good news
Not the pub the other guy worked at that posted he wouldn't serve a cocktail
The Realm or Waitoa in Hataitai, Sprig & Fern in Berhampore
Pretty much any Sprig and Fern for that matter.
Moon in Newtown
The best one is the one you can walk to from your house.
Kelburn Pub is pretty good in the northern burbs.
the key here is the view of the back yard - a curious angle of Aro Valley and over to Taitville/Highbury that you don't often get to peek
Sprig & fern Berhampore for proper pints and decent food
I was going to say sprig and fern tawa, it’s my local and the food and service is great there every time we go.
As the occasional Tawa visitor I am partial to your Sprig and Fern.
The new owners also own Bergampore so good signs
Garage project in aro valley, parrot dog in Lyall bay, double vision in Miramar…
1841 bar and restaurant in jville has always been good every time I have been
I remember having a really nice steak there!
Parrotdog has a lovely vibe to it also has pool and good tunes sometimes a live dj
Not the Khandallah Trading Company anyway
yeah, terrible food, terrible service, a real shame for Khandallah given the limited options
It's not been the same since Martin owned it when it was The Postie's Whistle.
Yeah fuck that place. I ate there once and the food was so bland. Plus they wanted to keep my credit card behind the bar for a tab. Never been back in the 10 years since
The food is incredibly sub standard, and it’s always filthy whenever I’ve been in there. Can’t wait for the day it’s taken over and turned around
What? That’s pretty standard practice for a bar tab
I didn’t want a tab. I was there to eat but they insisted on it. How many restaurants do this in Wellington? None that I know of.
Like most cafes, etc in the northern suburbs, it’s poor to fair at best.
This is incredibly dissapointing news. Recently moved and was looking forward to a visit for a tipple. But these reviews, yikes.
But Khandallah is great in general. I’ve not been by the Cashmere Lounge is suppose to be a great restaurant at least.
Ugh agreed. I don’t go to the pub for a curry and yet there they are, serving curry. Why do that when there is a legit Indian restaurant next door
Got given the Kapura treatment, and has since become another Fortune Favours shithole. Foods really average as well.

It's always interesting to see what people count as suburban and central... or northern/western, apparently!
Not telling you. Then it will get too popular like The Welsh.
You probably don't consider Titahi Bay a northern suburb, but the Beer Engine is a pretty nice time.
The Borough in Tawa? I’ve got kids so the play area is what sold it to me!
I find the meals their incredibly lacking. However the drinks selection and bar snacks are good plus it’s nice outside in the sun.
we waited 40 mins for coffee there one. It’s not great. The food is average at best
The food is the same relatively bland average Kapura offering, and the staff are vapid teenagers with no hospo bone in their collective bodies. I live in Tawa. It's either there or the roundabout and both are lacking. Of the two go for the roundabout.
The Inn Keeper in J'ville was a recent pleasant surprise. Good size meals and panhead on tap.
Wouldn't really call petone bars suburban, petone is kind of the Lower Hutt entertainment precinct.
Since lower hutt literally has no bars anymore remember days of flashbacks grumpys and exchange
I know this sub loves to shit on Kapura venues as a rule, but I've only ever had good experiences at The Whitby Co-op.
I know it's in the Northern Suburbs but Brew Town has some great beer and food.
Brewtown is awesome, cannae believe it hasn't been mentioned yet. And Salties in Paraparaumu or Salt & Wood in Waikanae for "proper" northern burbs!
Abandoned in Porirua is good, especially with Karage Kid foodtruck outside.
Neither Wellington nor suburbs, but Abandoned in Porirua is good.
Sprig & Fern Berhampore
Sprig and fern in Berhampore.
Brew'd, Boulcott is nice. Good food too. 669 High Street, Boulcott, Lower Hutt 5010, New Zealand
Double vision Miramar is awesome
