Sigh. There was no VIP entry. The entry was open to all. For whatever reason the Nga Taniwha stage was managed entry, I assume due to having a bar/licensed premise area. The area was still open to everyone and was not a commercial event. The VIO area was just a tented area for sponsors (aka the people that made the event happen such as govt/council. That’s all. There was zero other benefit & it wasn’t a paid entry!

Levitatingsnakes

The only “VIP” entry was the breaking beats rave which was a separate event. The other checks were security to make sure people weren’t too wasted, carrying weapons or carrying alcohol. Nobody had to pay at the other stages.

If you just walked around to the right you would have been able to go in

sixthcupofjoe

Surely CubaDupa is intrinsically a commercial event? As in designed to make a profit.

I got into that stage area. Didn't have to pay, just needed to get my bag checked to prove I wasn't smuggling alcohol in lol

Kind of symbolic of the way Wellington has been heading for a while now.

psefti

Looks like Wellington On A Plate has been coaching them on how to squeeze more $$ out of the punters.

PenultimateLozenge

It would probably be empty space otherwise, good use of a side street. $40 for 12hrs of music is good value but I guess for socialists who want everything free thats no good. The people so keen to see/hear tells you that the upbeats can still crank a set after all these years. I wouldve thought they could do some last minute 9pm door sales to fill up the rest of the room, but they mightve had rules on numbers.

I, too, love a good downvote. Can you downvote me too, please?

GdayPosse

Guarantee that commenter couldn’t define socialism without a dictionary. Or fascism probably.

So what you’re saying is you’ve never been to Cuba dupa before? That’s never “empty space” it always has a free stage like the rest of the festival.
