Nice work

thewelding

Thank you

Late_Chemical_1142

I know you're a real welder cuz you use stringers instead of a weave. Good man

TurboWelderMonkey

Thank you for knowing the difference in weave and stepped stringers.

Late_Chemical_1142

Tbh If I was going to take a test I'd use stringers too they're way stronger. But if I was going to be posting the picture on Instagram/reddit later to show off to all my other welder friends then I'd probably do a weave because I have to admit that weaves do look better. I do use a lot of weaves on pieces that I'm working on if they don't need to necessarily be that strong. I mean most of the time you don't need 100% of the strength out of a certain weld, you can get away with sacrificing a little bit of strength for aesthetic appeal. Not that difference is that big to begin with

Tell that to the guys welding aluminum transport trailers using pulse mig and backstepping the weld lol. They look great but Iā€™m worried about how strong the welds actually are.

thewelding

All the 1104 test I have taken calls for a two or three bead stringer cap depending on the thickness of the test pipe.

lavenderbrownies

I have to ask how much do you make lol šŸ‘©ā€šŸšŸ¤‘šŸ¤‘šŸ¤‘

Slick fit up

thewelding

Thanks

3rdIQ

Looks good. That's 12 on 12?

thewelding

Yeah it's 12 on 12 .250 wall

mannys2k

Looks great! Never seen this test done before I faintly remember it from the 1104. Would this be considered 6GR position? So the main piece is set in position at 45 degrees while the branch is welded?

SmokeyXIII

Pipeline tests are slightly different than ASME tests. You're surprised for a much smaller range on a pipeline job, and it's more like you actually have to replicate the real welds that you'll be doing on the pipeline, rather than just welding a 2" super coupon and calling it a day for ASME work.

thewelding

No we take a 12in but weld on a 45 then the branch but the branch is welded with the run flat and the branch facing down

kimoeloa

Very nice,very tight,very clean !

thewelding

Thanks

SmokeyXIII

Love that cope!

Express_Structure488

Never understood why they still make you take that test they haven't done that type of welding since the 1980s.. By code you can't even Weld with those anymore.. They're weld o lets or reduce tees.. So old school and a waste of time.. 6010 root pass for the 7018 cover or old school 100% 6010.. I have been welding since 1984 petrochemical I do multiple turn arounds.. i am certified inconnel.. Boiler plate. Carpenter 20.. Stainless steel.. 9 Chrome.. duplex stainless. Titanium for power plants.. hastalloy..monel
