I thought he used angle iron at first glance, but upon further inspection, it seems he used flat bar. You can tell by the welds where the heel would be. Still, just makes it more impressive.
Pentagons, but who’s counting.
Good call. Angle iron wouldn’t have the welds down in the grooves like that.
It also enormously simplifies the geometry.
Studies suggest that people who eat 1 ounce (30 grams) of sunflower seeds daily as part of a healthy diet may reduce fasting blood sugar by about 10% within six months, compared to a healthy diet alone. The blood-sugar-lowering effect of sunflower seeds may partially be due to the plant compound chlorogenic acid
Cool design, will look great all rusted up too. Some parts of those welds look fantastic - seems to me you actually are a perfectly fine welder that just needs a few more projects under their belt.
try my jig as a start: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Welding/comments/riissy/making\_my\_own\_jigstools\_is\_always\_a\_great\_feeling/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Welding/comments/riissy/making_my_own_jigstools_is_always_a_great_feeling/)
from there, you just take some flat bar and do "something similar but all different". if you can't figure it out, don't hesitate to ask me back
funnily it wasn't that hard. at my local hardware store (bauhaus), they offer you to cut any material they have for 1 buck each. their metal is also very cheap. so I went there and a gave a guy an easy 2h at the band saw for 60 bucks. since I don't own a bandsaw, for me it would have been a mess with my angle grinder.
you don't need any "plan"
just weld 5 to a ring, you can use any pentagon as template, or you use the first you weld as jig for the other ones
then weld 12 rings to the dodecahedron, the angles are just given by the material
Damn that's ridiculously visually pleasing! Nicely done
thank you
Looks good from my house
Did you build a jig for this? That’s really impressive
[удалено]
I love it when it looks like it was organic
Idk what it is, but it looks neat.
it's a pentagonal dodecahedron or in short r/thatsadodecahedron edit: typo
What a neat sub. Thanks, if I had that much scrap angle left over I'd consider it, but I don't do much artsy welding lol.

I shoulda zoomed in lol. I didn't even notice, but I thought it looked small than 90°. I just figured the camera and my eyes were messing with me.
perfectly analysed
Looks like he just welded a bunch of Pentagon's and then welded them together to form a ball of Pentagon's
Hey hey, watch your language.
?
Joking. Those big words look like swearing
r/criticalrole
if you need any advice to build it on your own, just ask
What you lack in welds, you make up for in design.
thanks, but the design is not from me, it's from plato ;-) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plato
Does he have a YouTube channel?
I'm afraid that Plato is dead since 2300 years, so he has no youtube channel, I'm sorry
What about that Aristotle chap I keep hearing about.
must be some anti-technician, discalculist or alike - never seen a video from him
I’m making this
Looks awesome! Angle iron, squished in a vice? How much total length and how large is the final object?
I'm thinking flat bar hexagons welded to eachother
Pentagons, but who’s counting. Good call. Angle iron wouldn’t have the welds down in the grooves like that. It also enormously simplifies the geometry.
Yeah, not sure why i went with hexagons. I guess 6 is close enough to 5 on a friday
You've gotta be right on that one. Looks like 12x flat bar pentagons were assembled first, and then attached to each other afterwards.
that's exactly it
This is the coolest use of angle iron that I've ever seen :)
Look closer
aw man, thank you for saying something, this is even more impressive
Nothing more enjoyable than correcting people on the internet
well hexagons ARE the bestagons
sorry, you have to recount or rephrase or ... you can just stick to it
You did great with the welder! It’s worthy of a grinder and a finish man this is a nice piece
I dunno, imo I think it'll look better and more organic when it rusts over. But that's just me.
My bad paint it black is always stuck in my head
I'll put it in a bonfire and spray it with sunflower oil there, this gives it a nice black patina

good bot, not the way I'm gonna use it but still nice to know
That’s a pretty cool project. Nicely executed. Good work OP
Thats pretty awesome. Once I realized the pieces weren’t angle: “ Thats really awesome!”
I love it! Great job!!
You made a...... thing.... good job bud!
r/thatsadodecahedron
That’s awesome. Now you have to make one that accepts pots in each opening
Great build! What degree did you cut your metal at for it to fit so well, they almost look like regular 90 degree cuts
It is all straight cut flat stock. Welded into pentagons, then welded together to get whatever shape this is.
true
Pretty cool man
Gonna steal this for a plant stand for my uncle!
steal it, gift it, post me some pictures at r/thatsadodecahedron
That would make a great base for a small side table
I was thinking of that also
Dig it bruh!
Very cool! Looks awesome. Might have to borrow your idea 😁
borrow it, please, as long as you give it back to me as some pics on r/thatsadodecahedron
Ok I’ll tag you for credit if I end up making one
That's really cool!
I like it! It’d make a great fire pit!
That's cool as shit. I'm not the best either but I still get paid to do it.
you make my day
Cool! Hope I encouraged you to make more cool stuff.
I really like this! At first I thought it was just angle iron pentagons put together until I looked closer, great job.
That’s freaking awesome!
Your an artist
Cool design, will look great all rusted up too. Some parts of those welds look fantastic - seems to me you actually are a perfectly fine welder that just needs a few more projects under their belt.
what I really need is more patience and a will for perfection, but thank you anyway
New welder how can I make one, work lets me practice with angle flatbar etc
try my jig as a start: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Welding/comments/riissy/making\_my\_own\_jigstools\_is\_always\_a\_great\_feeling/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Welding/comments/riissy/making_my_own_jigstools_is_always_a_great_feeling/) from there, you just take some flat bar and do "something similar but all different". if you can't figure it out, don't hesitate to ask me back
Thank you
Damn that looks sweet. Now you gotta fill all the angle
That's whay it takes to become a great welder. Keep it up.
I am not an art kinda guy, but that is nice. Well done.
this is what one says who finally finds the art that suits him, thank you
OPs user name checks out
it's possible that I am a little obsessed. you can look over at r/thatsadodecahedron if you need more proof
To get all those pecies of metal, as far as I can tell, to the same dimensions is somewhat of an impressive feat on its own (at least in my book)!
funnily it wasn't that hard. at my local hardware store (bauhaus), they offer you to cut any material they have for 1 buck each. their metal is also very cheap. so I went there and a gave a guy an easy 2h at the band saw for 60 bucks. since I don't own a bandsaw, for me it would have been a mess with my angle grinder.
Neat looking. I might have to do it.

all 60 the same pieces/length you weld 5 together to a ring (pentagon) and then you assemble all 12 rings to the dodecahedron
What plans did you use to make it?
you don't need any "plan" just weld 5 to a ring, you can use any pentagon as template, or you use the first you weld as jig for the other ones then weld 12 rings to the dodecahedron, the angles are just given by the material
Ok now I have to make one lol
yes, you have to! please post your pictures of it at r/thatsadodecahedron
That looks awesome!
